I have just returned from a Christmas cruise on Voyager of the Seas to the South Pacific To say it was a disappointment is putting it mildly. The food in the main restaurant was of such poor standard that most people opted for the Windjammer buffet (half of the seating was closed off nearly every day) and was closed from 3pm to 6.30pm. The menu hardly changed for the whole cruise and there was no special menu for Christmas day at all. Breakfast was always the same. The temperature of the hot dishes was nearly cold most of the time. The queue for espresso coffee (to be paid for) meant a wait of over half an hour sometimes. There was no provision for specialty morning or afternoon tea. The lifeboat muster on the embarkation day was a laugh. The crew checked the cabin off but did not cross off the number of guests in each cabin. Hopefully in the event of a real disaster the system would have improved. This is my eleventh cruise and the first with Royal Caribbean and will be the last with them. Embarkation procedure worked efficiently probably because of the online checkin. Debarkation was efficient, probably because everyone was anxious to get off this ship. Read Less

Recently, my boyfriend and me took a Carnival cruise on the Paradise during December 22-27 , 2014 . I was thinking , it's would be a perfect little vacation getaway. Usually we book balcony cabin, but this time we had inside cabin( booked cabin 2 weeks prior cruising) . Instead my boyfriend got very sick ( we think , from poor air circulation and mold ). We complained for 3 days, that it's very hot in the cabin, only on day 3 did the technician finally unscrewed the air vent, witch was full of mold and solid black in color. In fact, most everyone staying on the empress deck was sick and coughing like my boyfriend. With regard to what is supposed to be the reason we all cruise (the superb food) Carnival Paradise's food was simply awful. Specifically the eggs were not real (seemed to be made from powder), the coffee and tea were not brewed. They both were made from syrup and water and tasted horrible. The juices were not made from juice. They use Vitality which is more like a juice drink full of added sugar. The ship was dirty and proper sanitation procedures were not used. Servers not wearing gloves and taking dirty plates away and serving food right after without cleaning hands or wearing gloves. Needless to say we would not recommend the Carnival brands and will never book with them again. They want to charge full price and provide 2nd class service. Read Less

MSC is new to the US market. The staff are rude and their systems and processes are dysfunctional. Ex: Key cards for the room stopped working 6 times for 1 person in our group and 4 times for another. Food: horrible quality. The waiters are very nice and attentive. We were treated like 2nd class people. At dinner our friends were told they were were sitting at the wrong table. 4 staff members came to the table and raised their voices that they were at the wrong table. This was their 5th night sitting at this table. The table number corresponded to the table number listed on their card. They showed them and told the staff that the conversation was over. We were in a SUITE. All this meant was we had a bigger room. No robes, slippers. Nothing extra. The hangers were from the dry cleaners - all metal (a few were wide plastic). We were given one bar of soap for the basin to wash hands and no soap dish - just sat on the counter. Had to ask for wash clothes and it was like pulling teeth to obtain them. Only 1 pool towel per person. Used for the whole cruise! Lose your towel - $25 charge. Here is the BEST! We wanted an all inclusive beverage package - $300 for the whole cruise for two people. So we signed up. Had to go the next morning to get our sticker put on our card that kept not working. Went to obtain sticker - told because we have 2 cabins we must all have the package. The others occupants were underage. We were not going to pay so we said cancel and we purchased their "coupon" program for $90 for 15 coupons. When we received our final bill - the all inclusive charge was on our statement, plus the coupon charge! Back to the reception desk. Spent more time at the reception desk then dancing in the club. ID cards kept not functioning as we left the ship to go to shore or get on the tender with 100's of people waiting behind us! AWFUL DON'T GO ON THIS CRUISE SHIP!!!!! Read Less

Living only an hour from the port, we look forward to our Christmas Carnival cruise, however this year's cruise may well be our last on the Elation. Since we are platinum cruisers, this was probably the smoothest embarkation and debArkation process of all our cruises. Unfortunately, there aren't many other compliments I can give about this cruise. Evidently, with the recent "upgrades" to the ship, cruisers have limited controls over cabin temperatures and no controls over airflow in the cabin. After contacting our cabin steward a second time, we were told the cabin temperatures are kept between 71 and 74*. Only once during the cruise did I notice anything more than minimal airflow through the ceiling vent. We decided to try "Your Time Dining" this cruise. Unless you arrive at the dining room near the beginning of end of the dining room opening, you will likely be given a pager to notify you when a table is available. Our wait was anywhere from :20-:40. Not a problem, just be aware and plan accordingly. Service in the dining room was definitely lacking on this cruise. Our first night, Randy was our server...he was terrific! Thereafter, service was slow, to the extent that food was cold and servers seemed to disappear. At brunch on our last full day, it took :30 for our server to bring bread to our table, the tomato soup was barely room temperature, and the pork chop was cold. For supper that night we requested Randy. In hindsight, we should have done that for the entire cruise. Our cabin was on the Empress deck below the galley. On the first and last night, we were awakened by crew in the galley at 3 a.m. It sounded like they were dropping plastic buckets on the floor. After being awakened the first night, I slept with ear plugs, however I couldn't do that on the last night because I needed to hear the alarm in the morning. This was our first time getting off the ship in Progresso. It was a short 2-3 minute walk to the bus stop and a :15-:20 bus ride into town. We decided to have lunch at a downtown restaurant. The food was pretty good and the prices were reasonable. With weather threatening, we decided to get back to the ship, so we didn't do much walking around. I don't think we missed much. Progresso seems to be a very poor town. Having been to Cozumel before, we decided to stay on the ship. We did enjoy the Christmas sing-a-longs in the atrium and Christmas trivia games near the Drama Bar. I don't remember these on previous cruises to the extent they occurred on this cruise. Unfortunately, unless things change, we won't be sailing with Carnival next year. It might be time to give Royal Carribbean a chance. Very sad. Read Less

We have cruised other cruise lines but heard that Celebrity was top notch. We booked Concierge Class on this ship and were assured a butler and preferential treatment.( It was our 20th anniversary). From the moment we boarded it went down hill. Our room was filthy. We had to request it be cleaned twice! No butler service or preferential seating promised. We could not get traditional dining as we were told it was full. However, each night over 100 seats were empty and available. Configuration of the cabin was such that the bed was in the middle and had to almost crawl over bed to get to the couch, balcony, make-up desk with mirror, The food was honestly so poor that two nights we went upstairs to the buffet and had pizza. One could not use the sauna or steam room without paying each time even when one took a class or used the gym. We could not even get a light fixed...and add insult to injury they painted our balcony the morning of our last day! We were never asked or told..we were just greeted with a sign "Wet Paint" . Due to this we had no use of our balcony our last day/evening. The shows were not very good. If you think I am a cranky complainer the others we met on the ship had worse experiences! Each encounter with other passengers were worse and worse. One person could not get seated for dinner new Years Eve and was told "there was no room. Sorry" Another couple told us their room had to be scrubbed for 1 hour due to the filthy condition. Another told us about their door coming off it's hinges on her! It just goes on and on. Sadly, any screw up was greeted by chocolate strawberries to the point I just left the 5th dish of them outside the door. There were certainly ways to make things better. After 1 day, the strawberry plate got old. The employees seem trained in "no" and "can't" on ANY issue even the smallest. The captain was busy being a comedian, playing volleyball and game show host. This detail may seem trivial but I would prefer my captain to head the ship and it was operating poorly. Constellation is an old ship. There were many things that could be done to improve the food and service. This is not going to happen. Please pick another cruise line or at least new ship! Read Less

We were so disappointed in our cruise with Thomson at Christmas 2014 around the Canary Islands. We have cruised many times with Thomsons, last Christmas was great on the Celebration, but this year was a shambles. We were on the Majesty a year last February when 5 crew members were killed, (so we know the ship) as you can imagine this was very upseting for us at the time. However I can only sing the praises of Thomson in dealing with us as passengers then. Our evacuation of the ship was done with military procedure, representatives from our home area were flown over to the ship to aid us to understand what was to happen. This was a very thoughtful endeavour to reassure the passengers. This is Thomsons at its best and the one we know and love. Unfortunately this year it felt as if someone had lifted the ship up, shook it, dropped it, and it all fell back wrong. There was so many things we were not happy with we do not know where to start. We will try to list what was not right about this cruise??? * our flight.. not that impressed with Thomson planes and the new way of having to print off our own boarding passes. This leads to having to pay for seat that suit us. * we landed in Gran Canaria at 5pm did not leave the airport until 7pm ( we had left home at 8am) when we got on board no one seemed to know where our 'boat drill' was to be held, we were sent every where only to be told not here. this was not good after a long delay at the airport of 2 hours waiting for our laggage to be recovered ( Thomson plane) * £15 per week for the safe, not good *then a bit of food on deck 10 not good, too tiered to complain. *the cabins were small and tired, the towels were old grey and threadbare * weather bad to start ( not Thomsons fault) got better latter in the week. * there were plenty of sunbeds available if you were prepared to help yourself and find a sunny spot on deck. usually the sunbeds are waiting for you but on the Majesty they are stacked high and not easy to get at, and we are 68 and 66 years old and arthritic. * there was no shuttle service available and for somewhere like Funchal its a long walk into the centre and we both suffer from arthritise. * because the facilitis are old, the cleanliness was hard to maintain There was a bout of Norovirus on board a lot went down with it. The public toilets were old with broken waste pipes. There was no sanitiser available either inside or outside the toilets different to other ships we have been on. * the food was poor not much choice and not hot, Christmas Gala Dinner was not much better did not feel special. *the cabins were small and tired. The towels were grey and grubby. and the room smelled odd. * the cruise was a total waste of money, and being Christmas it was not cheap. *the staff lacked interest, and on occasions, quite rude. We asked the head waiter, in one of the restraunts one night, if we could have a table for two, we thought he was quite rude telling us, why don't we sit with others and make friends. We have family and freinds a plenty at home, this particular night, we just wanted some peice and quiet with some quality time together. How dare he dictate to us what we should do and make us think we were being awkward. * there did not seem to be any organisation or management. One hand does not know what the other one is doing half the time. * we were in cabin 3045 and the cabin staff were very good concidering what they had to work with, our dog has better towels, but the staff kept changing them. * entertainment was average. However the MOULIN ROUGE was very good but the Beatles were terrible. The comedian was good but we are elderly not suitable for the younger passengers. * I could go on with this list, but the Majesty has had enough of my time. best thing to do with this ship is to scrap it. * we are suppose to go on a Thomson cruise again to the Caribbean in April 2015, and however we have only put a small deposit down so far, and before we part with more money, we require a satisfactory answer to this complaint. Checking in was a breeze. Luggage delivered pretty quick. Went to room, aft balcony and found the air not working, empty wrappers behind drapes, along with sticky straws next to safe. Spoke with our steward and was told he would put in a work order with his supervisor for air, We waited and waited and waiting. Finally hubby went down to front desk and was told they did not do much in the way of repairs when the ship would be leaving port. My husbands response was "then just tell me when it will be done, because if you cannot get this fixed, i may as well disembark (and he was serious). Food; we tried La cucina has spaghetti carbonara (more like alfredo & was supposed to have pancetta, not that i could see) Minestrone soup, no flavor. Hubby like the osso bucco. Cagney's steakhouse, was continually told the chef was finishing up our order, only to receive lukewarm steaks & congealed gratin potatos, It was not even crowded. Skyline I had ordered a sirloin steak that i could not even cut (seriously) Buffet was ok had choices, but pretty sad to travel all that way and live on pizza. I traveled with a party of 6, They all felt the same. John adams coffee bar was good, but sooooo slow. I normally love dessert, the only thing i liked was the crepe, which you had to wait forever for and the soft serve ice cream.. Service staff: beware near buffet they cross with carts like they are driving nascar, and would not dream of stopping to let a "guest" go first. Aft deck 11,12, 13 wakaiki bar smell like grease. The shows were great.. i am all for being able to hear what is said, but when it was a musical you would of thought they were playing 10,000 seat stadium. Very loud. Room: aft balcony deck 19. very small. one person at a time to get around bed to balcony. The showers are miniscule, hubby was trying to wash legs etc and realized his head was hitting the soap dispenser and was pumping out soap onto his head. NCL provides soap and shampoo that's it. No conditioner, no lotion. Poor quality, went and bought my own soap and thankfully packed some conditioner. Shore excursions: waterfall hike, beautiful, had a great tour guide TONY. A little tougher than i anticipated. Hubby had bruises on bottom of feet. Mine were mostly from the knees down. Very uneven walking. Whale watching. So excellent saw 4 whales and the catamarran was brand new. KOna coffee and choclate factory was interesting. Luau was done very well. Lastly if you are a smoker cigar or cigarettes, you can only smoke in wakakai bar aft deck 13. Has a canopy for shade, but can get real windy up there. also when it rains there is no protection from the rain which blows in sideways. Personnel is great there!!! Children: is it really that hard to teach kids 10-17 not to run in halls and about run you down and some manners would be nice. I say this only because at some time or another they are going to hurt someone! I was told because this is the only american based ship, that half the crew has to be american. I really do not think i will be experiencing ncl again. I had 5 others traveling with me, that feel the same.   Read Less

Silversea clearly cheated their naive customers, who paid for the 6-star cruise but received a 2-star experience at best. - The food was terrible, and they ran out of even of that in the end. There were hardly any fruit, stale nuts and terrible frozen fish. -The TV was not working properly. - The new in-residence entertainment team was inexperienced, vulgar with no singing talent. - No aerobic classes or instructor for the first half of the cruise - some passengers complained about dirty carpets and leaking windows Every single passenger complained about this and more. We have sailed with Celebrity Cruises 5 times now all on different ships. The first 4 were amazing but this most recent one was awful. We chose a Christmas Cruise as it was something we hadn't managed to do before however never again and never again on the Constellation. To start with it's an old ship with a recently refitted (aqua class). We always travel aqua class as we primarily enjoy dining in Blu. The Blu restaurant on the Constellation is an after thought and was therefore squashed in to a very small space on the ship, too small to accomadate all aqua class passengers. On several occasions we had to queue and wait for a table. The restaurant itself has it's tables so close together you may as well be dining on one long table and not individual tables. It was very claustrophobic, and we felt rushed. Especially on Christmas Eve when it was clear the staff wanted us all gone so they could enjoy their own party in that restaurant!! The atmosphere was dull and matter of fact, not a party hat or party popper in sight!! Guest relations on this cruise were abysmal. They were disinterested in helping and again we were felt to be an inconvenience to them. On Christmas Day, we purchased an internet package at a pricey cost of $81 for the sole purpose of either face timing or skypeing home, when we couldn't connect, my husband rang guest relations and they said it was working fine but a bit slow so 'be patient'!! When we still couldn't connect after 45 mins we went to the ilounge only to be informed that it had been disabled as the signal was poor. We had to fight very hard to get any form of refund, eventually we were refunded $40, a lot less than was was left unused. We also took advantage of booking celebrity transfers to MIA airport, on the information sheet we were informed that we needed bag tags 'green no 15', we were given different tags so rang guest relations, who promised to send the correct ones. When they didn't arrive (and we getting close to having to put our bags outside our door) we rang again twice - nothing happened, so went down and collected them ourselves. On return to our cabin at 10.55pm we were given 10 new tags!!! The food was OK, have had much better on other celebrity cruises. Cleanliness was lacking. Our cabin was beautifully cleaned, but the balcony didn't get a look in. We had to clean it ourselves. Overall we have had some truly beautiful celebrity cruises and have never ever felt the need to write a review. This time however it was a very different story. It was made quite clear that the passengers were actually an inconvinence and they just wanted us on and off again. Whether this was because it was only 5 nights we are not sure. Especially being Christmas, we were looking for a little extra happy atmosphere, but were left totally let down and now looking forward to trying a different cruise line Read Less

Having cruised with Thomson before on both Destiny and Celebration we were looking forward to a fantastic Christmas cruise on Thomson Majesty. This was the first time we had been away from home at Christmas and following our experience it will also be the last. We logged our complaints prior to disembarking on 26th December 2014, and followed this up with an email on our return. I am so glad I did, because what we complained about is repeated in many reviews I have since read. In fact when I read the reviews and showed my Mother with whom I traveled, you would have thought my complaints had been taken from the reviews. Just to confirm our complaints in brief, ship very tired and not very clean. On arrival in our cabin there was a very strong smell of sewage/dirty drains throughout the cabin which we reported. Food choice was very poor, never had a meal that was hot always only luke warm [food hygiene/safety issue]. Remember this was a Christmas cruise and at afternoon tea they were serving peanut butter sandwiches! biscuits that all looked different but all tasted the same. Christmas dinner in the restaurant was also very poor again only luke warm, service was very slow and didn't get out until 2245 so missed the 1st 15 mins of show in the theatre. There was an outbreak of what they said was Norovirus, but wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't due to the food! This outbreak caused absolute chaos, staff didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing and caused long delays in the buffet areas. There were always shortages of milk and cups at meal times. With the exception of the Entertainment staff who all worked very hard to put on excellent shows, most other staff were quite rude. We forgot to mention in our complaints about the towels, but agree with others that they were mostly threadbare and grey not white [our dog has better towels]! Jacuzzi had dirty brown coloured water in them, when empty it looked like rust in the bottom. We were asked to provide an email address so that Thomson could contact us a few days after our return to get our feedback, we are still waiting. The places we visited and the weather was good. The ship was a big let down and would advise anyone thinking of going on Thomson Majesty to think again! I could go on and on but would just be repeating what most others have already written. Surely we cant all be wrong? Read Less
