Booked this cruise to celebrate our retirement. Norwegian prior kept giving us different information, talked us into a balcony which was dirty, had a dead bird on it for days. Atrium was overcrowded and folding chairs were placed to accommodate the crowds but were kicked and pushed as people traveled through. All the shows and select dining booked before the cruise began.if you wanted a chair anywhere on the ship you better be getting it before daybreak. The crew seemed tired and only went an extra step for tips! The food was horrid... buffet was worse than your best cafeteria meal. Ship looked beautiful on the outside but very calstophobic on the inside. Ship catered to “Haven” guests. Elevators.... forget it you better just take the stairs. I had recently had a hip replacement and asked for a handicap room and was told it would be more money and we bumped into other cruisers at dinner that said they were upgraded to a handicap room at the last moment for no extra charge.... what’s with that? Our 3rd cruise... will never cruise Norwegian again! Celebrity and Royal Caribbean are the BEST! Read Less

Selected this cruise because I live less than 2 hours from Norfolk port. But it was not a good boarding experience. It rained, people got wet, parking situation awful!! Later found out that luggage handlers were on strike so not enough staff to get people through boarding process in timely manner. People stood in line, in rain for hours!! Not enough service staff on Lido Deck. In all my days I have never had to stand in line 30-60 minutes for a hamburger or hotdogs!! Only place that was timely was Pizza line. Buffet line wait time was ridiculous and the buffet food was AWFUL!! Hotdogs and Hamburgers were always on the fast food deck line together in the past, now hotdogs with Deli, causing hour wait for a HOTDOG!! All event rooms were too small for audience size, had to stand up for comedy show, Bingo, Disco, Karaoke. Should have had more duplication of shows to spread audiences out more. All shows were overcrowded!! And shows weren't that Good. No good deck music during day when lying out. Long wait time for servers to bring drinks. Not much to do during day. Dining room food was delivered extremely SLOW!! Could tell waiters were over worked and overwhelmed with people. Just not enough staff on this ship. I think the 'few staffers' tried hard, but it was no way they could do valuable service to the large # of clients on board. We would order in the dining room and wait 30 minutes for 1st course to be served. Tables on Lido were always cluttered with dirty dishes, not enough staff to clean up, so clients were constantly looking for clean tables. First time cruisers may have thought this was an ok cruise because they had nothing to compare to. As a frequent cruiser, over the past 20+ years, my rating would be VERY POOR!! The ONLY plus for me was the personal driving distance to port, wjich was less than 2 hours. Parking situation was awful though!! Read Less

First the positives: excellent entertainment- if you can get a seat to participate Great staterooms Our room steward Narendra was fabulous Cirque Dreams and Steam was amazing Burn the floor dancers show was fabulous The rope course was great and so were the attendants The water slides were fun The grilled shrimp in the garden cafe was excellent consistently Ports of Rotterdam, Southampton, LeHavre, Portland, Cobh and Bermuda were great. The drawbacks: -Too small Cabin deck - one person would have to get up to allow the other to get into the second chair. A book and one glass could fit on the outside table. -TERRIBLE dining service. Even Cagney’s their very expensive steak house the steaks were inconsistent and the side dish came long after your steak and the wine delivered twice was wrong. Mostly the dining staff were disinterested, the meal timing was bad and more then not there were long waits between courses. -The brand new rock and roll venue Syd Norman’s was probably the most popular and grossly undersized for the interest. This bar very small and was full more then 1-2 hr before the band went on stage holding 1/5 of the persons who attempted to attend. -Popular events were held in the atrium instead of the theater. This area also was very small holding a very limited number of people. -Very disappointing not to be able to dock in Azores but this was a weather issue. -What was inexcusably the worst planned shore event was Great Stirrup Cay - if you didn’t pay for a shore excursion you had to sign up for a tender after those with an excursion we’re given priority. The ships staff appeared to make no attempt to monitor who signed up for which tender. Our tender number 10 left almost two hours late - at almost 2 pm getting us to the island when all the food venues closed at 2 pm. First excuse was “it took a long to get people on and off tenders” the second excuse was “the swells were slowing down the tenders” and the third and finally more honest was “we are sharing the 3 tenders with another ship”. This was exceptionally poorly done and what could have been a 4 hr day on the island was reduced to 2 hungry hours and 1 hour if that in line to get back in a tender. The island does not have the capacity for 2 large ships as we experienced. -excuses aplenty on this ship and they kept morphing. -Miami our first domestic port- everyone had to go thru customs. We disembarked to end our cruise here. We received a typed letter from NCL to congregate in an area at 7-7:15 am to depart FIRST as a group. The night before customer service indicated this would be at 7:30 am and we made travel arrangements accordingly. After what looked to be about 300-500 passengers and their luggage arrived we were told we would be LAST to depart! This was via elevators- for staff - some not working into the port where we stood for an hour in line on a hot stuffy gangway. We finally got to the curb at 10 am long after travel planned. This was our 4th Atlantic crossing. Weather is an expected issue. NCL’s inability to handle a crowd of 3600+ passengers was not expected. Yes this ship can sleep that many but it cannot seat in entertainment venues, feed or disembark in a timely manner this many. Every member of our party contracted a respiratory illness at one time or another and hacking coughing and I’ll appearing persons could be seen and heard throughout the ship. I will not travel a Norwegian ship again. No matter how nice and talented the ships captain is. I recommend Celebrity or Holland or Disney for Atlantic crossings. All were smaller ships with consistently fine service. Read Less

We usually cruise Carnival and thought we would give Norwegian a try. Never again! Just a few things that made a huge difference: Staff not nearly as friendly, no soft serve ice cream machine, no free 24 hour pizza, no indoor shuffle board or bags, food not nearly as good, and entertainment not as good. We will stick with Carnival! Our cabin was nice, but the kids room and arcade was at the end of the hall so it was always noisy. Bartenders did not know how to make drinks. The mojito bar is a joke! All the mojitos are premade and taste horrible! The only decent thing was the wings in the sports bar on deck 12. If you are on this ship and order breakfast go be delivered to your room anticipate them being late and order early delivery. Customer service is lacking on this ship. Very sad. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we like the itinerary, the dates were perfect and the price was good. In the past we have cruised with P&O, Cunard, Royal Caribbean & Princess and have always had a good experience -They all seem to offer something different and we are looking for an enjoyable holiday and good value for money. The ship is well maintained and very clean, the public areas are well designed and the decor is lovely, with lots of indoor and outdoor sitting areas. We had an outside cabin and it was clean fairly spacious and pleasant, Bathroom was basic but more than adequate. It would be hard to criticize the ship if it had no passengers or crew onboard !! Perhaps you are wondering why my score is so low? Before we went onboard I read some reviews saying how ignorant so of the passengers were, how they didn't know how to queue and would actually push you whilst in the self service Buffet. So we thought we were prepared.. WE WERE NOT!! I have 2 dogs with more manners... I think the large quantity of rude, brusque, miserable looking guests has had a huge impact on the majority of staff who rarely make eye contact and really seem almost frightened of the guests. We witnessed a couple of temper tantrums and some shouting all in the buffet area ...but the main problem during breakfast especially is you can easily be knocked off your feet by these rude people, they seem to come at you and push there way through, women and men alike... We were a group of 2 families ( 4 adults, 2 teens and 1 child) I made a huge effort to smile and make eye contact with the staff and they would do a double take you could see they were so used to being treated like a servant by the guests. The menu choice in the black crab was fairly limited , the quality of food and amounts weren't great. (I must say we did have 2 lovely waiters Jacksy and Prubu from Indonesia ) We had 3 nice meals out of 5... the other 2 nights the choices were not to our taste so we chose to eat in the Buffet which was much calmer in the evening. I also chatted to a waitress called Tasha from Grenada, she was so lovely and really helpful. We went to the entertainment 3 nights and only the one show was really worth watching the other 2 we were just wishing it would end so we could escape. The staff on top deck that served ice cream seemed to be the most grumpy- especially the shorter man who seemed to do his best to ignore us when we were waiting and was very abrupt when he served us. The children didn't want to swim in the outdoor pools because they were too cold and the indoor pool was too cold in the morning and when it warmed up in the afternoon it was too full to swim in.As with the jacuzzi's they were constantly full and you had to queue for a place - to squeeze in with 10 or 12 others. If the pools had been warmer I am sure there would have been less people in the jacuzzi's. The water chute was empty most of the time as it was too cold to use. Pre-cruise both my husband and I we had e-mails to say that based on all the other cruises we had done with other cruise lines we had been upgraded from a welcome member to Gold Member and they look forward to rewarding us with our privileges.. ( we got quite excited and looked up on line what we would be getting - We were led to believe we would be getting a welcome cocktail with the captain, a basket of fruit in our room and 50 euros each onboard spend.) We arrived to a small dish of fruit - a letter to the welcome party and had a glass of sour prosecco or super sweet mixed fruit juice- but the final straw was when I popped to reception to ask about our onboard spend I was told that was only on Voyages Selection departures and this cruise wasn't one of them .... Well please Captain Veniero don't sent us emails telling us we are very special gold members and suggesting we are going to get something that we aren't going to get!!) We were lucky that the weather was sunny and warm it did mean we could sit up on top deck and sunbathe when we returned to the ship in the afternoon. Ports of call were lovely - shuttle buses were a total rip off! Charging for a shuttle bus when just 400 yards away there is a a free shuttle into the city centre in Marseille isn't quite how you would expect to be treated when you've been welcomed into the MSC Family! The cruise might have been reasonably priced to start with but they pile the charges on to the extra's at every opportunity. In the email the captain talks welcoming you to the MSC family , well I have unsubscribed and want a divorce please... Even in the lifts and public areas , hardly anyone smiled or tried to speak. Most other ships we have been on people chat in the lift and talk about their day or at least acknowledge each other with a nod or try and hold the lift for you to get on - but no there was a lot of tight lipped poker faces. For the first time ever we have come home feeling almost pleased that our holiday is over. We are looking forward to a short break on the Cunard Queen Victoria in January at least we know it will be a friendly and civilised experience with laughter, good food and pleasant company. The ship is a wonderful modern ship with fantastic features, but the staff let it down with their priorities being maintaining the areas where they work forgetting the customers. The food quality is not what I expect from a ship of this size and quality/cost of cruise. The speciality restaurants are extremely expensive. We have been cruising for over 16 years with various cruise lines (some budget ones) and this was the worst we have experienced. The ship is extremely noisy everywhere in the entertainment bars and on deck during the day. If you have an issue and go to Guest Services your concerns will not be addressed or an apology give, or it was not in my or my sons cases. The shows on an evening lasts only 35 minutes and no drinks are served. Beware of the compulsory tips! they are extortionate! but you can ask for them not to be added, I think that because the tips are added the staff don’t really care if they give good service, sorry MSC but we will not be cruising with MSC again. Many bad experiences on this cruise. Absolutely do not book a room over the theater. Loud banging noise until 11pm. The service was horrible- I had to get my own everything..... too much bad to write about. The food was really bad for the most part. Unhealthy and tasteless OR way too salty. Steward was no where to be found. Room service didn’t answer once. Front desk was rude several times during the week. Shops were very pushy to buy, as was the art auction. Super loud party constantly on deck. Fitness center track is built right over the smoking area (yuck) Bartenders were always grumpy. Adult pool was way too hot. Excursions were canceled (two ports!) the elevators were impossible to get on, Ina regular basis The good: the nightly shows and the cruise director’s personality. The sushi. There are many cruise lines out there. Might want to shop around. I have this cruise line booked for May and will Probably cancel it was so bad Read Less

Give Ventura another try as this was only cruise from Southampton for Oct school holidays. This time not impressed with Ventura. Check in was quite slow Once on board we went to buffet, very poor selection available. Went to cabin which appeared to be ok visited buffet a few times, first occasion there was no cutlery available, once i can let go, twice and someone needs to say something, but this happened either no cutlery or no plates or no cups for tea and coffee 10 times which is inexcusable and shows standards are slipping. The Buffet itself is very poor, very little choice, poor layout, people going through exits and going wrong way causing problems. no-one to police this when entering buffet, first items you come across are the rolls and butter cut up into little blocks - put these little blocks onto your plate and in 30 seconds you have a big pool of melted butter on you plate. (will not put butter on tray as it could be dirty) Entertainment quite poor- we had 2 comedians. One was called Tucker, who came on with a song then spent the next 10 minutes talking to the late arrivals (in a 45 minute shoe this is not good) the second was Jack Ryan telling old jokes and basically dying on his feet. The Flyrights and Serious sounds were brilliant. Thank god for the Theatre showing some films. Quite a few quizzes and the Bingo - The Bingo is a major rip off, very high ticket prices £15 for a 6 strip book of 5 games £12 for a 3 strip book of 5 games Many people were paying the 6 strip approx 60-70 but the prizes only totalled £250 for all games (serious profit taking) Hardly saw anyone in the shops. On this cruise we has a man overboard and a few hours later we has to return to port for a medical evacuation. We missed a port of call to Cherborg due to high winds instead staying in the sea near devon seriously swaying all over the place for about 15 hours. Disembarking was a joke but not a bad a trying to get out of CPS car park (took over an hour) Clearly staff numbers have been cut which caused some of the problems will not be going on Ventura Again as not a lot to do. We regularly travel for work between Melbourne and Adelaide, and decided to take a Cruise for a change rather than driving. Chance to see Port Lincoln and Kangaroo Island as well which would be a new experience. Splashed out on Cabin S507 - Suite for around $7K + for the two of us for 5 nights. Overall a big disappointment from the outset with the variosu Suite offerings only being made available to us 2-3 days into a 5 night cruise. The state of the Suite (brown water running out of the taps, Deck furniture in a bad state of repair, rust staining everywhere on verandah, unclean verandah until the 2nd night, light fitting hanging out of ceiling, ceiling panels dislodged, excessive vibration when rear thruster used - enough to shake glasses off tables, door seals around the sliding door ineffective) Overall not good. Food quality was also disappointing overall - Sabatinis is very ordinary, Main dining is just OK. Other Cruise Lines leave this ship in the shade with regards to dining experiences. The ship was very crowded being at full capacity. A trip to the Buffet anywhere near meal times saw you sitting outside in the cold such was the way the other travelers were sitting and reserving tables and lingering about. Only good dining experience was Crown Grill but cost us an extra $70 as a cover charge. Spa visit was very ordinary and over priced for what you get. Entertainment was average to say the least. Cruise staff were good and cheery and tried very hard. The only positives out of the cruise were the Embarkation and Disembarkation experience which was efficient, but then again we were actually looking forward to getting off the ship. Never going on Princess again if this is their standard offering for a cruise line. Been on a dozen or more cruises over the past 6-7 years with NCL, Carnival, Cunard, and they are a far better experience - yes even Carnival was knocked off the bottom spot with this ship, and that really took some beating. The staff assisting with luggage getting on the ship was rude. No one really seemed to know which bus was going to the right ship. The main pool was very small and always too packed to enjoy the area. It was almost impossible to get a drink and the bar tenders were not friendly. The food was nothing to write home about. The dining options were plentiful, but the quality of food was average with the exception of a few places. Our kids were bored as there wasn't much for them to do. Two of the water slides didn't work the entire time we were on the cruise. Three of the four stops were actually very good and we enjoyed them. Roatan was the worst. It was a dump and not a very appealing place at all. I would encourage NCL to drop that from their list of places to stop. Belize and the two stops in Mexico were very nice and we enjoyed them. The other highlights were the two shows we attended. Burn the Floor and Rock of Ages were both very good and we enjoyed them. Overall, it was not something we will likely do again. We would rather find a resort or do a European trip rather than sit on a ship for multiple days. If you are traveling with kids, I wouldn't recommend this at all. Read Less

We noticed a difference in Service just since our last Norwegian Baltic Cruise in 2017. At first, it was subtle differences like short staff in the dining rooms, failure of wait staff to enter orders to the kitchen and also no towel art. Towel art is insignificant but just a sign of not going beyond expectation to make passengers feel special. The perceived amenities like special dining package, free Wi-Fi and unlimited drinks are nothing but a marketing tool to get bookings and of no or very little value. The specialty dining package had a service fee of $15 per person per meal. That is not FREE. We did not use it. False advertising. The Wi-Fi package was free but only 250 minutes. We bought a full Wi-Fi service package on board for $89 but the majority of the time, it was too slow or unavailable… Turned out to just be a frustration. The free adult beverage package that we got had service fees as well. Actually wasn’t free. The final assault was the last port of Dubrovnik (which is the high light port) was by passed due to technical or mechanical issues or something. It was never explained except to advise us we would be sailing straight back to Venice for two days at sea. We were informed that each passenger would receive a $100 credit on their account which we assumed would be credited to our credit card. We found out later that the credit was just spendable credit at the ship stores which were then closed. That is disgraceful. The trip had 5 ports of call. It canceled one which was not the passengers fault. If they wanted to show appreciation to their valued customers, the offer should be a 20% refund b/c twenty percent of the ports were missed. To offer $100 per person was cheap. They didn’t even have port of call charges in Dubrovnik because they didn’t even dock there. Furthermore, the $100 credit had strings attached which resulted in us not even getting a fair shake on that. We felt we were nickeled and dimed the entire trip and every chance to screw us was well noticed by our two cabin travelers. Damn near a SHAKE DOWN! Bottom line, we are looking at another trip in the spring in Europe but will never use Norwegian again.. We have made 6 or 7 NCL cruises before. This being said, there were good times and good ports and good excursions but I booked the excursions privately, not Norwegian although because private is cheaper and not on big buses. Read Less

We were able to get on the ship in literally less than 10 minutes. The ship was pretty clean, but there was trash and empty glasses that were left out on regular occasions. O’sheehans staff was rude and on two different dining occasions we had to find a manager to get drink refills. The specialty restaurants were ok, but La Cucina was horrible on this cruise. The dining was as usual average and you had to beg for tea refills, and then wait 30 minutes for the refill" We skipped the shows because they did not appeal to us. The Asian band was super loud and sounded horrible singing Elvis. The streaming internet was horrible and would not stream. The ship caught fire towards the end of the cruise, where over the pa around midnight someone yelled, “BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO” twice within 20 minutes. We then had to skip Dubrovnik and return to Venice, This would have been a good cruise if the ship would not have caught fire and broke down. Read Less

The Good: Dinners were great, shows were outstanding, the Aquaduck slide was fun, Pirate party with fireworks was awesome, Halloween party was super fun, opportunities to see the Mickey and friends characters, Castaway Cay was by far the highlight! The Bad: Cruise was expensive to begin with and they continue to charge you for SO much extra when you're there! (popcorn and pop outside the theater you would think is free - nope $7.50 or $18 for a container + they add gratuity onto everything, photos they take $21 each, beer outrageous, mandatory gratuity at the end for stateroom host, restaurant servers, host at restaurant), can only get free drinks on the 11th deck which is inconvenient, lunch food was meh, stateroom bathrooms were tiny, accommodations seemed dated - especially for the $ you're paying - we usually stay at 5 star all inclusive resorts for way less money during peak season for 7 nights - this cruise was really 3.5 days and we spent $5K for a family of 5 in the off season during October, it was super crowded, lots of lines and waiting, the pools were a joke super tiny for the thousands of people on board, and the worst part was the evacuation drill at the beginning we stood in the blazing sun and heat with our screaming 2 year old for 45 minutes and never understood why- we couldn't even hear what they were saying for evacuation procedures, 2 year old couldn't go in the pools with a swim diaper understandable for sanitary reasons but was inconvenient when our other 2 were swimming, 2 year old also couldn't go in kids club also inconvenient when our other 2 were in there, long waits for the elevators, we were also stuck in the late dining group for 8:15 dinners each night and our youngest could not handle it, she cried through dinner or fell asleep on our laps which made it difficult to eat, Bahamas port was disappointing, and first night on ship was extremely rocky even though seas were fairly calm because we were going so fast, I was very seasick even with 2 patches behind my ears and many other people we met said the same. One night a kid puked all over in line for dinner and I couldn't get beyond the fact that those germs were circulating the ship, I couldn't wait to get off of it. The kids had a blast and ultimately that's why we chose this cruise. Yes we are glad we did it, but won't be doing it again, especially for the price. Read Less

We chose this cruise as we have cruised over 15 times with Carnival in the past and had never experienced their larger mega ship class. The negatives first: the layout of the ship in regards to pools, restaurants, casino, and especially bathroom placement was ridiculous and incredibly inefficient. There are no hot tubs at the main midship pool, and then there is no pool on the serenity deck which is on the 15th deck at the very front of the ship. Elevators were impossible to catch leaving us to walk the stairs often. The Casino was cramped, hot, and extra smoky. Seemingly air purifiers and AC we're broke or not used. Truly the worst casino layout/experience of any ship we've ever been on. The most odd thing was having to walk to a different floor or different section of the ship for a restroom in regards to the dining room and Casino. Positives: food in the dining room for dinner and brunch was excellent. Most staff throughout the ship was pleasant and very courteous. The rear 10th deck pool had two hottubs and was the best layout, but you missed out on the main activities and games and big screen/movies which were only done at the main mid-ship pool. Bar staff at rear pool and Casino were excellent! Overall, will never go on this ship again. We will stick to the older ships in the future. Read Less

First, let me give praise where it is due. Our wait staff in the My Time Dining room were pleasant, kind, dedicated, hard-working, and determined to provide us with the kind of care that Royal Caribbean is famous for. Our room steward also did an excellent job. Many kudos and sincerest thanks to them. A 5 star rating is not good enough for the service they provided. Sadly, the rest of the cruise only occasionally rose to mediocrity and often sunk to the pits of frustration and humiliation. The failure of the cruise to reach anything close to expectations lies firmly on uncaring upper level corporate incompetence and mis-management decisions. So what went wrong? Last year we took the Transatlantic re-positioning of Symphony from Europe to Ft Lauderdale. It was a lovely trip. When asking about Future Cruises, we were told that we should look at the The President’s Birthday cruise on Symphony. “It’s going to be a major party!” Lots of big name performers! We aren’t allowed to say who yet, but trust us, you are going to be shocked at the lineup! (Wink, Wink, Nod, Nod.) Giveaways! Activities! Hey, it’s the 50th Birthday, Royal Caribbean is going to pull out all the stops! 50th Birthday only comes once! Etc, etc. etc. So we booked. Our problems began a few days before the Birthday cruise was to board. We got a call from Royal, saying our reservations for 2 nights dinner at Solarium Bistro had been cancelled. “Why?” we asked. “A Private Function is now scheduled in that venue.” They answered. “But we were really looking forward to those reservations. We don’t want to give them up.” “Sorry.” “What else can you offer us? Can you discount one of the other extra cost dining venues?” “There are no plans to offer discounts due to reservation cancellations.” “So what else can you recommend?” “You could try the Windjammer Buffet.” The Private Function turned out to be closing the Solarium to anyone except Pinnacle members. Ok, so we’ve still got theater shows and those “secret” premier performers, Performers is plural. We thought there would be one each evening. Nope, wrong to think that. One band scheduled for two performances in the Cruise Compass and the marketing package we received. Then the two performances became only one show. And then magically that show transformed into another of the dreaded “Private Function” for Diamond Plus and Pinnacle members.” So what do you get if you are not Diamond Plus or Pinnacle? “You got a cover band three nights ago. What else do you expect? Have you considered the Windjammer?” And who were the premier performers? Hall and Oates. You may remember them slightly. No hits since 1984, over 35 years ago. Maybe you liked them way back when. But give me a break. They are not cutting edge, first-tier performers, at least in the 21st century. And was this the last problem with the cruise? No. You don’t want to read a novel here so I will recap a few issues. There were more. Security officers nearly non-existent. This means no crowd control. Is the Neon Night line turning into a stampede? It’s every man for himself. You can be run down by electric adult handicap scooters and Visa cardholders desperate to get a fifty-cent flashing necklace. This is true even if you just turned the wrong corner and are not trying to go to the event. Need a waiter for coffee in the morning or a drink by the pool? Forget it. My guess is crew staffing has been cut to the bone and then cut again for budget reasons. Electric adult scooters. They clog the halls and elevators, They will crash into you if you don’t jump out of the way. They pose a risk to other guests. Anyone can bring one. A genuine handicapped designation should be required to get one of these things on board. Children with no parents or no visible supervision. Your evening will not be enhanced by a five year old trying to strum the solo performer’s guitar while she is playing. This actually happened. Where is security? See previous comment. Speaking of children, why are they allowed in bars and dance venues after 9 pm? This is not Romper Room or a teen video game parlor. Nothing destroys the enchantment of an evening like being tripped by a band of marauding kids darting in and out of the dance floor. Are the Cruise and Entertainment Directors real or only holograms? You might see them projected on a stage but you won’t see them any other time. Presidents Cruise Prizes? Much ado about nothing. Four cruises of which two were in the lower level of Royal Caribbean ships. One was a two night inaugural cruise on the Odyssey and the Grand Prize was a 7 day Caribbean cruise. A few American Airlines fare vouchers which cannot be used on discounted flights making them virtually worthless. A handful of $50 on board credit vouchers. For a ship with over 5000 passengers this was paltry. Was this “The Biggest Boldest Birthday Party and Presidents Cruise Ever!” to borrow from Royal’s marketing blurb? After three back to back sea days with no activities different from any other cruise, cancelled reservations, and performances, I don’t think any passenger would agree. It was more Boredom than Bold. So, that’s my review of Royal’s 50 Years of Being Bold Cruise. It was a budget cruise at a premium price. I honestly believe the way this cruise was merchandised was a scam. I have been Loyal to Royal for a long time. I only wish Royal shared the same loyalty to its passengers. Shame on Royal. Read Less

The ship is beautiful but foods, both in restaurant and buffet, are terrible. Food in restaurant is far from enough and I had to eat again in buffet. Food quality, both in restaurant and buffet are far from tasty. We were originally arranged sitting in Silver Dolphin restaurant same table with strangers while many tables are still not occupied. Excursions are professional organized. We were charged twice for a shore excursion and had to deal with the excursion staff in last minute before disembarkation. One of itinerary destinations cancelled due to poor weather but we didn't get any compensation. All passengers attended the shore excursion in Florence got badly wet due to pouring rain and I got cold second day. Cabin service is bad. Bed sheets and towels in our cabin never got changed for 7 nights. We couldn't have a good sleep for all nights because vibrating from beds and noise from balcony door. Read Less

My friends were going on this cruise and had been on Norwegian before, my family and I had not. This ship had the worst service in history, my family and I were SHOCKED. We bought the ultimate drink package and thought we'd get a chance to use it but that was just a dream, unfortunately. The bars were completely understaffed. We had to wait 30 minutes each time we wanted a drink from the bar (really the only place you can get drinks on the ship unless you want juice). We even waited 30 minutes even if we only wanted a pepsi or diet pepsi. We asked a server to get us drinks or a pepsi and were given dirty looks as if we'd committed some kind of crime. None of the staff or bartenders even understand the drink package or ultimate drink package. My friend had to print out the info on the drink package to show those in charge that san pelligrino water was actually included in the package (otherwise they were charging us for the bottles). For days I tried to get diet soda cans in our room but I was repeatedly told this was not possible, the ship didn't have diet soda. WHAT? And certainly didn't have any cans of diet soda... On the 4th day, my friend met with the Food & Beverage General Manager who advised that yes there was cans of diet soda and the GM sent 6-7 to the room (this was greatly appreciated). But why did it take 4 days, repeated interactions with staff, guest services, housekeeping, room service etc.? If you have a problem in your room, don't bother calling anyone, they never answer the phone anyway. The sun and pool deck were terribly over crowded - the lounge chairs had no space between them and people were practically on top of each other. In many cases, people were reserving lounge chairs from 6 or 7 am. There were open lounges at the top sun deck but it was so windy up there, it was uncomfortable. The pool easily had several hundred people in it, so if you didn't get it in early and stay in it, you couldn't get in it at all in the afternoon. The ropes course and slides were nice but since it was always terribly windy these were typically closed. (If you have been on Royal Carribean's Anthem of the Seas or Harmony of the Seas and loved it, you'll be bored out of your mind on this ship. There isn't enough for the 13 year olds to do especially with the wind problem. The main/regular dining options have horrible food and even worse service. Our server never even got us drinks and dinner took 2 hours. No one on this ship knows anything. We would go to guest services for information, they would send us elsewhere. We'd go to the X place as directed by guest services, and X place had no idea and would send us back to guest services. Guest services would send us back or to somewhere new. To say that the staff and servers are uninformed and don't care is an understatement and they certainly show it. The exception being the specialty dining. The service in the specialty dining - particularly Ocean Blue and Cagney's was great and the food was even better. We ate here several times (we wouldn't dare go to the Manhattan dining room or any other regular/main dining room). Also, don't bother with O'Sheehan - this dining experience also took several hours and the server was clearly overworked and unable to manage the guest load. Most of the food here wasn't great but the wings were pretty good. We also ate in the Italian restaurant - good food and decent service. Our kids (6 of them) ate in the hibachi restaurant and enjoyed that as well. The entertainment - music and comedians were great. Very enjoyable. Booking an excursion was challenging and we were told that the excursion we wanted was filled. So we went to Virgin Gorda on our own (saving hundreds) and it was beautiful. Definitely worth the trip. We were scratching our heads because we only saw 5 people from the cruise at Virgin Gorda Baths all day and the excursion certainly wasn't completely booked as we were told. The spa was nice but the staff didn't appear to be knowledgeable and are always pushing products even after I said "I don't want to buy anything" they still kept coming, pushing stuff. It made it a very uncomfortable experience. The thermal spa was also nice but it was difficult to get a chair and the floor was slippery, I wiped out and hurt my arm and knee. I made an appointment in the spa for a mother-daughter massage which was re-scheduled 3x because our reservation kept going "missing" - finally on our last day when it was there, we got our massage. During the massage, my daughter's massage therapist left the room for 10 minutes. I asked my therapist if she was okay and was coming back. My massage therapist said yes she left because of the weather. My daughter's massage therapist finally came back and resumed her massage. A few minutes later, she left again and I realized the vomiting noises I heard (and was hearing again), was my daughter's massage therapist. I couldn't believe it!! How could she be vomiting and then resume my daughter's massage as if everything was just fine?? Once I realized what was happening, of course, I became very green around the gills but I immediately stopped the massage. With the norovirus being commonplace among cruise ships, I would expect if someone was feeling ill or vomiting, he/she would not work on or with the guests. In this case, I think the massage therapist was sea sick but I can't be sure. I am so grossed out and horrified. Just as bad, I paid for this debacle and am worried sick about what my daughter was exposed to. On the last full day, there was a storm in the afternoon. The staff was slow to realize the impact of the storm and tie down lounge chairs to prevent them from being blown all around (into people etc). Do yourself a favor - go on any other cruise line. We have cruised with many different cruise lines in the past but NCL has been our go to cruise line for several years and we have had wonderful trips until recently. we did a caribbean cruise the end of September on the Breakaway, which included 4 ports. we arrived at the first port at 4 pm and most everything was closed. the next day we woke up to find that we had not moved on to our second port and were going to bypass it. we hit our third port as planned but the next day found we were heading back toward our first port ,(but not stopping there), instead of going to our 4th port. all and all, we ended up stopping at 2 out of 4 ports and cruising the sea until it was time to return to Miami. NO COMPENSATION. I was livid. we had another cruise booked the end of October and it was too late to cancel. we were leaving from Venice on the Star and had a huge amount of money invested in this trip. we spent a couple of days in Venice and the night before our cruise boarded we received an email with an itinerary change. 3 of the 6 ports had been eliminated and were replaced by 2 others which were unfamiliar to us. The order of the itinerary had also changed. A few days into the cruise they also cancelled one of the ports they had added. our original itinerary was Kotor(eliminated), Corfu, Santorini(eliminated), Mykonos(eliminated), Kefolonia, and Croatia. An extra city in Croatia was added. For this inconvenience we were compensated with $200 per cabin. Unfortunately for us and many others, we booked this cruise for the itinerary especially Santorini and Mykonos and had done a huge amount of research in order to be familiar with all ports. The excuse we were given on this cruise was mechanical problems, Most guests were outraged and Customer service was indifferent to the complaints. I cant help but wonder if this is NCL's new pattern. I am setting up a group cruise in March and though I have Platinum status with NCL, I will transfer it to another cruise line and book with them. I am so disappointed in NCL as I have recommended it to many others over the years. NCL....you need to take care of your people. The ship itself was nice, our cabin was nice, though we missed the little things like ice in our ice bucket, towels folded into animals..small stuff, but special touches. food was good, love Le Bistro, entertainment was non existent for the most part. Games were boring and poorly attended, the shows that actually happened were good, some were cancelled and others repeated, WIFI was a joke most of the time. Service for the most part was good. I use a wheelchair for mobility as needed and found it was difficult especially in the garden cafe. In the past staff has offered to assist me but I had to fend for myself on this ship. Normally when we disembark and return, there is someone to assist with the wheelchair but we either had to ask for help or fold it up and walk it on our own We traveled with 3 others and enjoyed our time together. We always enjoy cruising and this was no exception. These last 2 cruises were however a great disappointment . Unfortunately we are done with NCL for now and grateful to be able to transfer our status to another cruise line Read Less

I chose to cruise with the Pearl instead of the Sky because I had never been on the Pearl and thought it would be nice to experience a new NCL ship, what a mistake, this ship has the worst customer service, I have taken 21 NLC cruises and had NEVER had this experience, they where not perfect but little issues we have encountered on other ships were well handled by staff and officers. This was my nightmare cruise, The check in was not well organized, when we finally made it onboard, we went to the Garden Cafe, food was ok, but even though it was only 1pm, they already had run out of pork shops and we had to wait for hamburgers to be cooked, that night during the welcome aboard party I was surprise to not see the officers parade but thought they would do on last day, nope, I was wrong, they never did it, mind you I was staying on a VIP room and did not see or meet my sturdiest till Sunday afternoon after I complaint that I had asked the day before for coffee packets and never got, on Saturday we had dinner at Summer Palace, very beautiful, however, after 2 hours of waiting on our meal, it was cold, 4 of us did not get what we ordered and 1 did not get part of her meal at all, I wrote a complaint to the General Hotel Manger and he never acknowledged my complaint, that has NEVER happen in other ships, cruise director was only seen the first day and the last night, never saw or heard from him in between, even when they changed course and cancelled/changed a port, we did not find out till late at night that saw a note in our room, but an announcement was never done by captain nor cruise director, my bathroom sink was clogged and noone ever came to fix, and when we would go to bars, the bars also had no snacks the way other ships do, understanding that they where busy but they would not even acknowledge they saw you and will be right with you, the specialty coffee is together with the atrium bar so it took forever to get coffee since they would attend people ordering drinks before coffee, that was awful, I had to call and request towels because whom ever cleaned the room, took my towels but did not leave any clean ones, this is the first time I experience this type of treatment in any NCL Ships, we always have the best time ever and this is why we ALWAYS sail NCL because we have experience this treatment from Carnival but never from NCL, so I do not recommend NCL Pearl, I do highly recommend JADE, SUN, EPIC, Breakaway, Getaway, Escape, Sky and the Bliss and I am shocked of the experience.
