I went on this cruise with my boyfriend and his family. Staff were great, and overall very attentive. The food was generally not good. The best food was at the buffet. While staff at the restaurants were very accommodating, the food did not live up to our expectations for being on a "luxury" cruise. Service at the restaurants that required an upcharge was mediocre at best. Staterooms were modern and very clean. The shows that we went to see (Six and Jersey Boys) were both excellent. The observation lounge and promenade were great places. The shore excursions were well-organized and a lot of fun, although our last excursion to Cabo was time limited because it was turning into an "at sea" day. I would definitely do an NCL cruise again, but with more realistic expectations. Not sure if it was really worth the money that I paid. Overall, it was definitely a positive experience. Read Less

We embarked on a week long cruise with NCL on the beautiful Breakaway last month. Positives The ship was beautiful, clean, well appointed and all the public areas were well laid out with adequate seating The food in the garden cafe (buffet) was lovely. Constantly refreshed and made fresh each time, we never had any problems with this food at all. The drinks package (as part of free at sea) was really worth it and we very much enjoyed the cocktails on offer, as well as the selection available from margharitaville. The bar tenders were generous with pours and would make drinks not on the official menu if asked The itinerary was great and we thoroughly enjoyed all the stops The shows were very good, rock of ages was fun and the dance show impressive The activities such as ropes course, climbing wall and basketball court and mini golf were great. Our inside cabin was well kept and spacious. Good storage spaces available. 2 members of recreational staff (Wham and Neal) were excellent (the only 2 we came across) Kids club (though our child didn’t go much) seemed to go down well when she did attend - though being closed for 4 hours a day wasn’t helpful. Negatives STAFF - never have I come across such a group of miserable, unhelpful to the point of resenting serving you, staff. Rarely was a smile to be spotted amongst them and they were on occasion downright rude Communication - one of our prebooked shows was moved from one day to the next - the only reason we knew this was because another family told us, and they only knew because they had tried to double check the time it started with the box office. The daily schedule was often wrong, directing people to the wrong part of the ship for events (the last night party for example) and the aforementioned miserable staff were clearly annoyed at having to redirect people (rudely...) to the right part of the ship. The shows, whilst good, were all adult themed. There was little if any in the way of family appropriate entertainment. The main restaurants were extremely slow to serve, to the point where the food was always lukewarm by the time it finally made it to your table. The overall feel of the ship was that it was aimed for 18-30’s crowd. The biggest main pool in the middle of the top deck was adults only, with a stage hosting such family friendly events as mr sexy legs and miss Norwegian....the entertainment in this area lacked and despite it being directly next to the small children’s swimming area (the only one on the ship) there were often songs sung or played with curse words. We experienced a significant technical delay on boarding and were stuck in the terminal building with no access to food (though drinks were provided) for 3 hours, not boarding till 2:30. The muster was also awful, being 45 minutes long and being constantly told to “ssshh” by the person in charge. All this before we had eaten or drunk anything. Goodness knows how people with diabetes etc managed. I don’t regret doing this cruise, and don’t doubt young childless couples would perhaps have loved it more, but I was looking for a more family friendly cruise which this just wasn’t. Read Less

We sailed NCL once before and loved the itinerary. We like the itinerary scheduled for this cruise but found it disappointing on several stops. 1st, the stop to Kotor was canceled but the excuse given was that the departure from Venice was delayed 2hrs. I take issue with the cancelation since we made a two hour stop at a port just beyond Kotor and arrived there about 6 hours before we were expected to arrive in Kotor. Clearly, NCL avoided the port fees in Kotor but made no effort to mitigate the loss to the passengers. 2nd, the stop in Santorini was a bust. We arrived along with 5 other cruise ships and it took hours to get to the cable car. We and several dozen other passengers punted and went back to the ship to the bar. 3rd, the stops in Corfu and Mikonos barely gave you enough time to grab a meal and head back to the ship. We knew this before hand and chose not to take an excursion because of the rush. The Norwegian Star was clean and well maintained. We loved our room, the service, and the amenities. The food was good, best in the upcharge restaurants but neither warrant further mention. We were very pleased with the cruise director and his staff but.....there was really very little to do on board. We would cruise again with NCL but only if the itinerary were very special. Read Less

Went on the Armonia Oct 21st! Have been on 15 cruises, first MSC. Upon reading the reviews, I was not expecting much as this is an older more basic ship. Here is my review. The ship itself was VERY CLEAN. No issues there, it does need an update but I think it is going into dry dock soon. We had an Oceanview room on the 9th floor which was fine. Our room steward was excellent and although we didn't see him much, our room was always cleaned twice a day. To all those who have been talking about the tiny shower, it is small but doable. This is the first time I didn't bring my own blow dryer and that was a mistake. The blowdryer is very weak so if you have longer hair bring yours!! The waitstaff we had was the best we have had. They made our dinners wonderful. Unfortunately I cannot say much good about the food. I know this is subjective, but we also talked to others and the food was very bland. The buffet was almost terrible. The same things every day pretty much. Breakfast was fine and dinner in the main dining room was just ok. The prime rib was excellent and the filet on formal night also good. Everything else was just bland unfortunately. I felt like they were trying to use up food by the 3rd night. The pizza was excellent and Franceso was whipping up pizzas non stop. There is a free gelato bar and that was fantastic!! Went to a few shows and also just not good. If you didn't get there at least 30 minutes prior there were no seats available. The last thing.. about 1/2 of the lounges reception area and sports bar the air conditioner was not working and it was so so so hot. Very uncomfortable and they did not fix this the entire cruise. All in all the cruise was fun and definitely what you make it!! But, I would probably not said on this particular ship again!! Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the itinerary. My party originally booked on Royal Caribbean, but we wanted to go to Keywest so we changed to the Norwegian Sun. Norwegian was also offering some nice incentives, the reasonably priced beverage package. Norwegian does some things really well. The beverage package was the best of any of the lines I have been on. The bar service was great, fast, friendly, and the drinks were good. The entertainment at sea was fun, with the entertainment staff doing a good job of keeping us smiling. The music was really good, upbeat. The live bands were great. The biggest complaint that I have about Norwegian is their food. The food in the main dining rooms was not good, it was not hot, and it appeared they were using the same base for every cream soup, the same beef for every beef dish. Although the servers were nice, they were really slow at serving us. If it wasn't for the food, Norwegian would probably rise to the top in my book. To date I have cruised on: Royal Caribbean, Princess, Carnival, and now Norwegian. Read Less

1. Nickel And Dimed: I felt like everything was extra money after I paid for my cruise. - The app to message people around the ship was $10. - Most of the restaurants you had to pay for ($40-$50/person) - The best entertainment you had to pay for. - All drinks except water you had to pay for. (other ships I have sailed with let you get a soda or lemonade or something similar with your dinner.) 2. Daily Disembarking - it was difficult to know what time we could begin disembarking each day. We knew when we arrived at the port, but not when we could disembark. And each day it was in a different location on the ship. It would have been helpful to have listed that on the daily newsletter, in the app, and with signs throughout the ship. 3. Laundry - I really wish they had washing machines we could use on the ship! That is a big deal for me when I choose who to sail with. I did find out that we could do a bulk laundry service near the end of our time on board (which I was NOT able to learn through ANY of the NCL information, I learned about it through Cruise Critic). I did use the service while sailing, and it was a good service. We sailed Wednesday to Wednesday. We had to put the laundry out by Friday morning and it was returned Sunday/Monday (2 of our cabins received it Monday, 3 of our cabins received it on Monday.) The bulk service is a discount from their high prices - everything you can fit in the bag for $20. The bag is just smaller than a regular pillowcase, but it is a flat paper bag. I used a suggestion I found on Cruise critic, where I brought with me a large garbage sack, put all of my clothes in it and then slid the plastic bag into the paper bag. It helped because I was able to close the garbage sack with the draw string and then I didn't have to close the paper bag. It was slick! The laundry came back folded in a small basket waiting for us in our room. 4. The App was NOT worth the $10! All it did was allow us to text one another. They didn't use it to push information to us! This app could have let us know about disembarking times and locations, when we need to be back on the ship, it could have showed me my excursion details and my dinner reservation locations and times. But it didn't. It wasn't interactive at all. If you have a large group and need to communicate, then I guess it's worth paying for, but other than letting you text, there is a static map of the ship and that's about it. 5. Dining - MAKE RESERVATIONS EVEN FOR THE MAIN DINING ROOMS! The main dining rooms get really busy, so if you want to eat at a certain time, make sure you make reservations for your party well in advance, otherwise you will wait in a huge line for a table to open up! I really didn't like the "Free Style" dining. On other cruises with set dining times, the waiters got to know our table, our habits, our drinks, our favorite appetizers, etc.. and had things ready and waiting when we arrived. With Free Style cruising, each dining experience had different waiters, so we didn't get the personal attention I've received on ALL of my other cruises! Additionally, since we were a party of 9, had I not known that I needed reservations, dinner would have been a nightmare! 6. Stateroom Layouts. I stayed in 8149. We were lucky we had odd numbered state rooms because that side of the ship was able to view most of the port coast lines! My party stayed in cabins 8149, 8155, 8157, 8159, 8161. The layouts for 8149, 8157, and 8161 were all the same. The toilets were next to the bed and the couch was on the far side of the room next to the balcony. The walkway was so tight that two people couldn't pass the bed without one of them either getting onto the bed or walking to the other end of the room. The layouts for 8155 and 8159 had the bed at the far end of the room and the wider space to move up front in front of the couch and by the bathrooms. It's a MUCH better layout!! The bathrooms don't have a door. The toilet and shower area are frost covered glass enclosed on either side of the door into the cabin. So if someone knocks on the door and you answer it while someone is using the toilet or showering, then there isn't much privacy. This area is separated from the main living area by a curtain. The sink was in front of my bed, so when I used the facilities during the night, it woke up others sleeping in the room. I've stayed in interior cabins before with more room! This "suite" was smaller than other rooms I've stayed in! (minus the balcony of course.) 7. Embarkation and Disembarkation were SUPER smooth. It was one of the easiest I've done (I've sailed 7 times.) Overall the ship was nice, the staff was wonderful, and the food was terrific. But I think I'd rather not sail with NCL again. If I did, the price would have to be a steal to get me to go through the headaches again. Read Less

My wife and i sailed on the anthem for the second time on a cruise to new england and canada. We were both disappointed this time with most everything on the ship especially the food. The food quality in both the specialty restaurants and the dining room were less than average. We ate in chops 3 times and once in jamies and were for the most part disappointed. We had a balcony room in what i thought should have been a very quiet location room 10572, slightly forward of mid ships, however it was quite noisy, possibly just noisy neighbors but quite annoying. I must comment on embarkation and disembarkation which was outstanding, and parking right next to the pier was also a pleasure. Overall will not be sailing on the anthem anytime soon. As for the excursions we did kennebunkport and scenic cruise in a rainstorm, the scenic cruise was cancelled and we were refunded that portion of the excursion, however we were left in town for approximately 2+ hours and not allowed back on the bus which proved to be a mess with the heavy rain. The other excursions acadia national park, st andrews by the sea and peggy's cove were all good, our tour guide for st andrews lynn adams was hysterical, very entertaining. Read Less

Food was the same menu as the previous 5-6 yrs. they sorely need a change! Crew was very nice as always. Amenities are average at best. Loved Bermuda, needed to have more time there on second day. On our way back from Bermuda, we were 5 hrs out of port headed back to Charleston, the ship started to list to the port side. They got it corrected then it listed really badly again, we were in the dining room and had to catch the dishes as they slid off the table. A few minutes later they announced we had a medical emergency and had to return to Bermuda. We were supposed to return to Charleston at 7am Saturday. We got back at 4pm. The Debarkation process was a cluster at best. And there was never any mention on the ship of it listing. Some of the guests thought we had turned abruptly and that is what had happened. Lol do they really think a 103,000 ton ship can turn that quickly. I would still like them to admit we had a mechanical issue and address it properly. We have sailed on the Sunshine 5-6 times and this was the first issue we have had. Read Less

Food was awesome. Shows were good but only 5 and one was a sorta redo with same comedians different material. They did two “Taks” to replace shows. Although the talks were interesting they should have had them for the afternoon of Sea days , where there was only two things to do . Either sit by the pool or a gamble. Very few trivia contests. No scavenger hunt, no Newlywed game. They did have two great pianists but you couldn’t get a seat unless you arrived a half hour before showtime. The same was true of the Soul Music show and the Violinists. Never enough seating. If ships are going to accommodate thousands of guests they need thousands of seats. Casino small but non smoking. On the first evening we heard a sound like a barking dog. We called the front desk and they sent someone up to the hallway to check. They called me and they said there is no barking dog and I told them that it sounded like a barking dog , that I doubt it it was actually a dog on the ship. The following day I called again and reported the same issue. This time they actually sent someone up to my state room and I took them out to the deck so that they could hear the barking dog sound loud and clear . It turned out to be the door between the balconies was vibrating and sounded like a barking dog. They repaired it and we slept in quiet the following evenings. I wish they had believed me the first evening it would’ve been Nice to get a good night of rest on the first evening of the cruise. On the next to The last day of the cruise everyone had to go down to Deck three and present their passport at different times. Our groups time was 830. We normally went to breakfast in the dining room at 8:30 so we thought it would be good to go after the passport presentation. We went and found the dining room was closed. We were told the only breakfast available was at the buffet. Apparently thousands of other passengers were told the same. We walked around the buffet for 20 minutes before finding a table. The table was on a level with a step. Thanks to that step my sister-in-law fell and broke her shoulder bone. There should not be steps on a ship that caters to the elderly, they should be ramps. After the accident , my wife and her sister spent six hours in the hospital. The reason the time was so lengthy is because the x-rays they took on the ship were faulty. That was due to the fact that the doctor gave them the wrong x-rays with the wrong person‘s name on the x-rays. So the hospital had to take new x-rays to confirm that my sister-in-law in fact did have a broken shoulder. Thank the Lord, this all happened early in the day , due to the fact the ship was departing the Port at 4:30 and my wife and both her sisters did not return to the ship until 330. Bring your own soda . I called to order two diet cokes and they advised they would deliver Wednesday. Disembarked Saturday still no Diet Coke in stateroom. Needless to say, I will never take another Holland America cruise. Read Less

As many other reviews state...”a easier way to visit multiple Hawaiian islands” was the draw for this cruise. Having cruised with multiple lines & reading various reviews about Pride of America we knew not to expect perfection. We Added the 3 day hotel/land excursions to our trip prior to boarding the ship. It help us adjust with our jet lag. Our balcony cabin (8134) was dated/average & room for 2. (Our female steward was the best we have ever experienced in our years of cruising). The buffet dining was adequate & the up-charged restaurants were a disappointment ( we tried 3 different ones) due to poor servers. One night we watched our food delivered to the servers wait station while our server & 3 others stood together laughing/talking/. After 10 minutes I walked up to the group & pointed out our food & that our request for additional drink orders had still not been filled 25 minutes later. There was no apology just a cool attitude from our server from then forward. There was a sad agreement, among our group, about the work ethic we observed of the American staff...at times we were embarrassed as the numerous foreign passengers we talked with commented on it. Shore excursions make for long days & were adequate. Our group wished we could have had one sea day to allow us to recharge our energy levels. Enjoy your trip, know there will be some disappointments with on board expectations not met...prepare yourself for the up’s and down’s while enjoying new environment beauty. Read Less

We chose this cruise primarily for the convenience of the location which required a short plane ride. The Royal Princess was a very nice ship. The Cruise Director was great, and the room steward was outstanding. The beds were one of the best ever! The issues we had that took away from the trip we had looked forward to include a room that was as far from the elevator as possible - we were both medically handicapped and this caused us major issues in the distance required from the elevator to the room. We had many conversations with Princess about our conditions in hopes of a room that would be more accessible. Once they had our money, the could not have cared less about the "guaranteed room" status or allowed us to change our choice to being able to pick our room. Additionally, the A/C was not working in our room and there were seven nights of waking up soaked in sweat! Miserable times. The dining room was o.k. except the service was so slow between courses. The beverage choices were extremely limited if you didn't have the beverage package. Our choice was water, coffee or tea. No lemonade unless you were eating at the buffet. The food did not meet our expectations in comparison to Royal Caribbean's dining room choices. (not even close!). The elevators were on their own programming and it wasn't unusual to wait 5 or 10 minutes for it to stop on your floor. Also very disappointing was the lack of evening shows. Very little was published about what was going on in the showroom. Overall, it was o.k. but definitely not to the standards we had become used to on our other cruises with Royal Caribbean. Particularly since the prices were not any less. Read Less

We are mid-cruise on this near brand-new ship. I hope someone from Princess is reading this. This is the Sky Princess' second sailing, I believe. In many ways it is brilliant, and, in others, it is hugely frustrating and a let down. Let's start with the positives. The staff are brilliant without exception. The state rooms are calming and elegantly decorated in contemporary style. The public areas spacious, comfortable and beautifully designed. The entertainment in the theatre the best we have ever experienced on any cruise anywhere. So what's the problem? Largely three fold. Firstly, the lifts are awful. Everyone is moaning about them. Permanent, interminable waiting time whenever you try and call one. Simply put there are not enough lifts to cope with the passenger load. Especially with one out of service from embarkation. Second, the service in the restaurants is very, very slow. Unacceptably slow. We kind of understood this in a speciality restaurant on night 1, but in the main restaurant?? Unusual. Finally, a linked point, service is generally a bit slow, even in moments when it doesn't seem that busy. It is hard to understand why. On a final note, the medallion system, which whilst superb in many ways, is not flawless. I can see some cruise passengers feeling more at home with standard key cards. One of the downsides is you don't see what you've been billed (ie at the bar) until you've checked it on the app. Not for everyone, I think. Overall - has great potential, and would be 5* for us if these issues highlighted above were eradicated. One has to hope that these are the teething problems, of a new crew, on a brand new ship. Our sense is they are. Time will tell. Read Less

We were on the NCL Epic which sailed out of Barcelona, Spain on October 27, 2019. The ports were Rome, Naples, Florence & Pisa, Cannes, France and Palma De Mallorca, Spain. The itinerary was great. We only booked 1 excursion with the ship in Cannes, France and the rest we booked private tours which were less expensive and amazing. We were a party of 4 adults (2 couples) and we all felt the same with the cruise. Our first impression was that the employees were not happy and it reflected in the service we received. For example, we had an issue with an onboard credit and the person at the guest service desk, simply said that I have to take it up with my travel agent as she did not see anything in their system about a credit. She was just plain rude and did not offer to speak with a manager or anyone above her. It was more like that's it, move out the way, next guest. I felt like they did not want to try and resolve the issue like on the many other cruises we have been on with Royal Caribbean and Carnival. Those cruiselines definetely know how to treat guests and all guests are treated equally whether you are a VIP guest or a regular guest - everyone is treated equally. on NCL if you are a Haven Guest, you get the royal treatment and if you are not, then you are treated like a 3rd class passenger on the titatic. This was our 3rd cruise with NCL and we decided that we will not do NCL anymore. It's just to many little things that add up. Another thing that they did was that on the last night of the cruise, they locked the mini bar and at 10:30 at night, we did not have access to our water bottle which we had already paid for and was in the refrigerator. I called our cabin stewart and he did not answer, therefore, I had to call the operator 2 times so that they can send someone to open it. That made us feel like if they did not trust the guests as maybe they thought that we were going to empty out the mini bar into our luggage and not pay for it - Well, that makes no sense because they had our credit card on file. That was a "stupid" move on their part and alot of people on board were not happy with that "concept" they are doing now of locking the mini bar on the last night. The lines of people complaining on this particular voyage was huge and they all had the same complaints. We spoke with other guests who were not happy either with the treatment they were receiving. We all felt like a number on the last couple of nights - it felt like they just wanted to get rid of all the guests quickly to get the new guests on board. I regret having left the gratuities pre-paid, it was $210.00 down the drain as none of them deserved a tip. We went to different dining rooms and the treatment was the same, all rude and in a hurry. NCL should really do something about this, as we the guests pay a good penny for our vacations and deserved to be treated nicely. Read Less

What I like. First, the rope course was fun, rock of ages was a very good musical show that I watched twice, noodle bar, the quiet area at the waterfront, especially for the Shakers bar, the bar on deck 17 was also my go to spot due to lack of people, garden cafe is decent, le cucina menu was a bit confusing but good, teppanyaki was great but it takes a time. Osheehans was great too; they have good wings. What I dislike. The overall ship feels very tight and narrow. Not a very easy ship to navigate at some area. Cabin feels narrow and low ceiling, too. The cruise director was by far the most boring I have ever encountered. Same drink was made differently at every bar/lounge I visited. Lack the consistency is a bit annoying. Again, the same kind of drink ($13) but once got turned down because I was told that it wasn’t included in my drink package while other bars just made for me. The whole trip I didn’t order more than $13 drink but I have these random charges from all the bar on my account from 30-50 cents each and I had a drink package. One last thing that push me over the edge was they charged $104 my credit card but didn’t deduct from $100 onboard credit as I was advised. We were on the NCL Epic leaving from Barcelona I was in a group of 20 and we all felt the ship was lackluster. This was my first time on sailing with NCL and I will be sticking to my preferred cruise line in the future. Out of all the workers I encountered only 2 seemed to be happy to be working on the ship. All the other workers were miserable, the seated dining service was horrible on one occasion our server brought out the wrong dish to my boyfriend so she took away the wrong order and NEVER brought him what he asked for; thankfully the buffet was delicious because after that experience we didn't go back to the dining rooms. I'm glad that the ships were in port for long periods of time because they didn't have to many activities on ship I usually spend most of my time playing the games/trivia but those were few and far between. We also encountered an issue with our excursion to Florence of the hop on hop off bus tour, our guide warned us it was "end of season" for them so transportation and traffic were going to be bad yet they had no problem charging us as if it was still season they provided us the transportation to Florence and then highly recommended that we didn't use the hop on buses because we'd lose a lot of time waiting for the buses or sitting in traffic. My sister booked a different excursion in Florence and they also had issues with transportation and they recommended to her to take a taxi back our she'd miss the ship. When we got back on the ship they only offered us a 20% refund and didn't seem apologetic or that they even cared. I'm confident that everyone on board my ship was disappointed as well, at all times of the day there was a long line of people at the customer service desk complaining about something. We booked a balcony room 13265 for four and it fit us all well but the layout was very odd we didn't like the open concept bathroom the sliding glass door is just a light frosting so you can see a clear silhouette of whom ever is in there and no one felt comfortable using the restroom peeing alone was amplified to the room because of those stupid glass doors. And I highly ADVISE for everyone to continuously check your bill on the tv they charged me a $30 bar tab that I never made they had to go back into the paper receipts to check for the wrongfully made charge it took a day for them to confirm the accident and remove it from my account. I learned on the first day that i wasn't going to be purchasing on the ship due to the high gratuities and port charge I bought a beer that was menu priced $7 and ended up getting charged $10.50 with all their fees. Poor service and high prices just solidified to stick with the cruise line I know and trust. Read Less

I booked this cruise because it was a convenient port I could drive to. Our cruise was set for boarding at 8am on Saturday nov 2. We got an email the night before stating that it would be pushed back to 7pm. So we end up losing a whole day on ship. We stayed at a specific hotel due to being able to leave our cars there and they provided a shuttle. Our shuttle took us down to port at 3pm with all of our luggage under the impression we would have somewhere to put it. Once we arrived shortly after 3 we were told there was nowhere to put our luggage so I return we sat outside of the gate with all of our luggage since we have 6 people in our party until we were allowed in at 7pm. Our safety drill did not take place until 11:15 pm. That was fun after sitting on a sidewalk for 4 hours. We were told there was a medical emergency that deflated Them and a family got left in Bermuda and they had to turn around to go get them when they were already 100 miles away. I do wish the injured person well and hope they recover but needless to say it wasn’t a great start to the trip. I recently did an Alaskan cruise on Royal Caribbean oasis of the sea. That ship was beautiful and very clean. Hard to compare to the old Sunshine boat. The boat def shows it’s age. It does not feel clean. The first night I had dirty pillow cases in my bed. Called room service to replace them And they never showed up. We also tried ordering room service on multiple occasions and waited on the phone over an hour and finally gave up. We ended up going to get pizza from the 24 hour pizza joint which taste like cardboard but nothing else was open. Internet on this cruise is very spotty and the hub app for chat goes in and out all the time as well. I do enjoy gambling and playing roulette but they only have 2 tables and the casino is VERY smokey! Another issue we had was when we went to the private island. We took an earlier boat over at 9:30 am with hopes of going snorkeling. The hut who rents us told them they were all sold out for the day. We then tried to buy a set at the market on the island only to find out they were sold out as well. So needless to say they weren’t prepared for the amount of people coming and it was disappointing. About the only thing we got from missing a day on the cruise was a refund for a days worth of internet and drink package if you purchased one. Other than that we just missed a day on ship with no other compensation. The food in the main dining room is average. Overall the trip was enjoyable but it had a chaotic start which put a bad taste in my mouth. The ship did not feel clean to me but maybe it was the age of the ship. Overall I would do it again and hope for more organization. We enjoyed the late night comedy shows. We did get to swim with dolphins at the Atlantis and I highly recommend that! Read Less

We're Elite on Celebrity, but were a little disenchanted on this last cruise. I would say embarcation with the express pass was great, disembarcation easy also. We always carry our stuff off, and although directions were not consistent that morning, it was pretty easy. We sprung for Aqua class and totally enjoyed eating in Blu. Excellent staff, excellent food. So why are we disenchanted? So many small things that add up. The only 2 places to get a decent cocktail were the Rendezvous Lounge and the martini bar., We had the premium bev. package, not much by-the-glass selection. Had to go to Guest Services to have it corrected on our cards which read classic pkg. Had to go to guest services to get credit for 4 dinners at Quisine which was closed for the first 4 nights. We had booked prior with the discount. Got a call before we left that Quisine would be closed to install LPC software. The return of the OBC should have been automatic. Then we got a call that it would be open the last 2 nights, so did get to enjoy it one last time. New color palette was very pretty, stateroom looked quite refreshed. We thought we'd miss the cocktail table, but really didn't, although we did not order from room service. Our stateroom, 9101, was very convenient, but you DO get quite a bit of noise from the pool deck, One thing I did miss that I don't think anyone commented on, the sheer curtain is gone. Also from one side of the bed you must get out to turn the light next to the bed off. The nightstands are not "nailed" in and easily moved. When packing to go home, if I hadn't looked behind it I would have forgotten some items that had fallen thru the open shelves. Very pleased with the amount of storage. Another annoyance was the round shower head that either pushed the water toward the wall or the glass door, couldn't make the water flow downward. Did not have any trouble with the safe, it opened fine. Some have commented they had to pry the door open. Shows were as expected, nothing really stands out.. Read Less

How do I start with this the first Royal Caribbean’s Cruise we have been on since a great trip from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale in the Fall of 2007? Fluctuating? Annoying? Pleasant Service? Discount airline-style “nickel dime-ing” one to death? Great Cabin? Decent food? Rude dinning room managers? All of the above. We decided to take this cruise out of Galveston on a whim. Needing to be in Austin on the 10th for a meeting, the schedule was perfect. Having settle on Holland America and Princess Cruise Lines as our go to ships, we were nervous. But, off we went anyway. 1. Boarding: After so many years in the business, one would expect RCL to know how to handle a crowd. They don’t! The processing, carding and boarding was laborious, time wasting and down right irritating. 2. Cabin: Finding our Cabin, 6376, Starboard-side toward the stern, was relatively easy. We were pleasantly surprised by its layout, spaciousness, and balcony. A little threadbare, it no the less was good. Ample storage, drawers and closet. 3. Casino: We went to the Casino on the first night, a major attraction for my Wife. We discovered shortly after arriving at the Cashier Window that RCL and their casino operator had tacked on a 5% add on fee if you utilized your Cruise Card attached to your Credit Card for payment. So, a $100.00 start up limit was actually $95.00 after the operator and RCL took their 5%. Ridiculous. 4. Crowding: Half of the Windjammer Buffet was closed down at night to facilitate a Specialty Restaurant. Really? 5. Atmosphere: Every thing on this Cruise appeared the normal Cruise-related orientation until you reviewed the stupid little things they do. The air conditioning is poorly managed and the thermostat in the Cabin is unresponsive. You take a comforter out from under the bed for additional warmth and the room steward gets upset because “it is for the use of future cruisers.” Again, Really? 6. Service: In the Windjammer Buffet, the busboys are removing yourself dishes and silverware before you have even finished eating. Crazy! 7. Spa: Want to use the Thermal Pools in the Spa. Nope. Don’t have one. All in all, we enjoyed being back at sea. We enjoyed the decent food. And we enjoyed the everyday folks who looked after us. But man, Royal Caribbean, you need to get your customer service act together. And soon. Norwegian, Holland America, Princess and Cunard are leaving you in their dust in the customer service area and one day loyalty to a brand will be important again. Just ask General Electric and General Motors. Read Less

we chose this cruise because of the duration/ports/and the fact it went under a refurbishment. So here is my two cents---I'm a pretty easy going passenger and pretty much goes with the flow...so upon reading all the low reviews about this ship I came aboard with no high expectations. Pros: *My kids (both 4 and 5) enjoyed the water slides/splash park * On the first day of the cruises I had a pretty good judgement of majority of the passengers (first timers; young adults; fair amount families with young children)--because of this I knew most of theses people were not going to get up early to eat breakfast/go to the pool to snag chairs. So wait times for the buffet for breakfast went pretty fast and we had no problems getting a chair at the pool. *Embarkation and disembarkation went smooth for us * blue java coffee is worth the money if you appreciate good coffee/tea * The sushi and Alchemy bar were my favorites * "Cheers" program is WORTH THE MONEY---buy it!!!! * Our room steward Sai was very sweet * Our kids love the camp ocean as well as the activities for them * Never had any problems with the Staff * Decent breakfast at the Main dining room Cons: * Dinner at the main dining room--------not too good * The layout of the ship is pretty annoying (having to cut through a smoke filled casino or walk one flight up or down to get to your destination) * The seafood shack is NOT WORTH the money--having to wait 45mins for bland fried seafood was not the business * Yes areas of the ship did produce odors of old cigarettes and sewage. * Buffet food--------------------its buffet food, soooooooooo * The noodle bowl was good but too salty for my taste * After having to wait 45mins at the seafood shack and seeing the same amount of ppl waiting at the deli I decided not to try it. * We were on the Spa level--the floor was quiet but our stateroom (1115) was facing the stairs so we occasionally we heard ppl talking loudly or running up and down the stairs. * we were on a balcony level and the balcony was soooooo narrow and i felt like the room was very small for 4 people. So overall the cruise was okay. I believe those who are new to the cruising world would think the ship was great, I saw a lot of people who just wanted to have a good time and enjoy themselves, so I wasn't annoyed by the "urban demographic" (as some of these reviewers referred them to---by the way me and my family are apart of the "urban demographic). But because I consider myself a seasoned cruiser and had a pretty good idea where/what majority of the people were doing we didn't get the feeling that the ship was so crowded. Coffee shop...went there early, sushi--nobody wanted to pay extra for it so we basically had the whole area to ourselves, breakfast--went to the main dining area early and was seated immediately by the time we left there was a long line, hit the waterslides/pool/got chairs early before everyone else (remember we ate breakfast early, kids were dressed and ready for the pool--so by the time most woke up/ate breakfast we already had 2 lounge chairs--and this was by 10am) Honestly I doubt I would cruise Sunrise again only because the layout of the ship was so annoying to me and the food wasn't that great.
