Exceptional fourteen Day European River Cruise on Viking Ve & Gefjon ( Amsterdam to Budapest). The entire experience from arrival in Amsterdam until our return flight home Exceeded our expectations. It was without question the Best vacation my wife and I have ever taken! The captain, crew and hotel staff were very professional and outstanding representatives for Viking Cruises. The ports and the daily included tours were exceptional. The dining experience was the best we have experienced in our six previous cruises on Royal Caribbean, NCL, Celebrity and Holland America ships. The stateroom was very comfortable with great space to store luggage. Stateroom staff were outstanding. Finally the daily activities, lectures, nightly entertainment, and the castle tour on the Rhine were so much fun. We were so happy and impressed with our time on the Viking Ve and Viking Gefjon that we booked a follow on Viking Ocean cruise departing Stockholm on June 26th, 2021. Read Less

Traveled with my mom. This was on her bucket list. When i found it on a travel site i've used before for a decent price, I called to alert her. She jumped at the chance to go. FLIGHT: We flew from NYC to Budapest, to get 2 days of Budapest in before the cruise. We made the HUGE mistake of flying Alitalia "Magnifica" Business Class. Alitalia -- never again. The flight attendants in business didn't smile once. They acted like they absolutely HATED their jobs. Food was not good. Service was absent. Slept well in the Magnifica seat/bed though. Arrived in Rome late and missed the ONLY connecting flight a day to Budapest on alitalia. We arrived at 9:00 am and our flight to Budapest was on the other side of the airport and with customs we couldn't make it there by 9:15 am, when boarding ended. They rebooked us on the flight the next day....so we spent an entire day in an airport Hilton Garden Inn and only got ONE day in Budapest. Sucks because Budapest was amazing. Alitalia took almost 3 hours to reissue our ticket as we sat at the FCO airport completely jetlagged. They treated us like it was our fault that we missed the flight. Everyone acted like helping us was a huge inconvenience (I wonder how they treat their economoy class customers if this was our experience) and again everyone seemed to hate their job. A huge difference from the corporate culture at Delta. Thank GOD we had booked Delta on the way home, Budapest Hotel: Stayed at the Marriott on the Danube. AMAZING view from executive lounge veranda. Awesome hotel and even better executive lounge -- with views that were just breathtaking. Will stay there again. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the executive floor to get that dusk view. You'll never forget it. I've been to Europe over 30 times and never had the view at dusk that i had from that veranda. Wow. Boarding: We got back to FCO via Alitalia after just one memorable night in Budapest (need to go back soon). No issues on this flight but employees were just as droll. We flew Economy on the flight back to FCO and although seat width was fine, only 29" of legroom. EEK! Arrived at port around noon and surprisingly there was really no line for boarding. I think a lot of people were still arriving from the airport and we had gotten in the night before and stayed at a local hotel in Civitavecchia. We were onboard within 10 minutes of queuing. Wow. The Ship: OK, yeah, it's old and needs to be refurbished. But...it was clean throughout. The bars were dark and had that 90's cruise ship vibe. Some previous reviewers mentioned smelling septic sometimes during the cruise. We did too. Most notable was in late afternoon in the Rendezvous bar. Pools were nice. We really liked the salt water pool! Like the Celebrity Summit, they do a lot of games and Zumba and stuff during the days. It was a lot of fun and we danced a lot. Bars are limited on the Millennium class ships. We're so tired of the Martini bar. We really missed not having a bar by Guest Relations, like on Solstice class. We loved going there in the early afternoon! Also love the World Class Bar on the Solstice class ships. Loved it even more when it was the Molecular Bar. The location made for a nice place to meet up before a show for a drink. Missed it on the Infinity The Martini bar was always full of drunkards who were loud and obnoxious. Not our style. We were excited about the Outdoor Movie thingy. We had done this on the Star Princess and just loved it! But this area was WAY FAR from any bar to get a drink! And no servers there coming around. BOO!!! On Princess it's in the middle of the deck and near an outdoor bar. Here it was pushed into a corner where no one ever went to. You really had to work to find the area. As a result few people watched the movies. Not well laid out. Cabin: We really liked the feel of this cabin. It just felt cozy -- like Jeannie's bottle! The sofa felt like a sofa -- unlike those plastic blocks they call sofas on the Solstice class ships. The make up table was very wide and well lit. The chair to the make up table was missing a roller, but the attendant had engineering fix it by the next day. We didn't like the bathroom though. It was like bright white and clinical, like a hospital bathroom. It was also really really small. Smallest of any Aqua Class cabin bathroom. But we had only done AC on Solstice class prior to this trip. We found storage space to be plentiful. Food: We made it to breakfast only once. We were in Aqua Class, so we went to Blu. Breakfast was very good. My smoothie was excellent there. Eggs benedict always good in Blu. No different on this ship. Service also good. We did lunch either at the salad bar (light salad) or the Aqua Spa cafe. We like light lunches. The buffet had a good lunch (as buffets go.) The Indian food at the buffet was quite good! The Aqua Spa cafe was terrific! The light chicken salad blew my world apart. I NEED that recipe! The fruit plate and noodles awesome too there. We met a nice couple from Dublin, California there! We usually get burgers a lot at the grill on Celebrity cruises, but we didn't like the taste of the burgers on this cruise. They weren't horrible but just didn't taste like the normal Celebrity burgers. We only did the grill once on our 12 night cruise, as a result. Too bad. We thought the food in Infinity's Blu restaurant was the best Blu food we've had in all our Aqua Class cruises. We've done Reflection twice in AquaClass, Equinox 3 times, and Infinity once. We'd give Reflection 4 out of 5 stars. Equinox 3.5 out of 5 stars. Infinity 4.5 out of 5 stars. The only weak points were: the tomato based soups used tomato puree that was abominable and then the desserts. Surely the chef didn't taste this soup before serving. It was absolutely dreadful. Soups without the tomato base were great. The desserts on Celebrity are always just "meh". Doesn't matter where you order, other than Murano. We had wonderful servers in Blu. Our waiter was from a suburb of Mumbai that was only 4 miles from the hotel i always stay at there! We talked about favorite restaurants in the area and shopping in Hiranandani Gardens. We gave him a great post-cruise review. All the servers and back servers we had in Blu were excellent. Ivory, the hostess from the Philippines was a hoot! Ask her how she got her name! lol She worked very hard and knew everyone by name by the 2nd night -- amazing. Alex, the dining room manager was young but very efficient. We met many nearby dining couples each night who were really quite lovely. We always meet the best people in Blu! The wine steward was also a hoot! He was everywhere!! Never have i seen a sommelier as active as him. He knows like 5 different languages too! He was so funny. Everyone loved him. The red meat on this cruise, in Blu, was just exceptional. Everything was so tender and delicious. The filet mignon with celery root puree just melted in your mouth. The ribeye with black truffle vinaigrette was just explosive. My new favorite is the lobster ravioli. I had never had it! It was amazing! The food was so good we never dined in a specialty restaurant. Normally we'll do a night in Murano (no Murano on this ship) and somewhere else on a long cruise; the hologram dinner at Quisine looked good. We just didn't wanna miss the next dinner at Blu! ENTERTAINMENT: Very good! Surprisingly good. I think Celebrity is weakest in entertainment. Their performers are normally just not very good. We were surprised to see that the singers could both sing AND dance! And the singers were mostly pretty good on this cruise! The lead male was excellent He acted very cocky but i guess he deserves to be. He could easily work on Broadway. Very talented. The Broadway review they did was fantastic! My mom said it was the best she's ever heard on a cruise ship and she's a music major. I thought it was as good as the Celebrity Constellation's entertainment team. We thought that group was easily Celebrity's best, before this cruise. Why does Celebrity put its BEST singers/dancers on the worst cruise ships in its fleet?! I guess it's to try and even out the experience. The Barricade Boys (a group of West End (London's Broadway) actors were fantastic. Their harmonies were spot on and they were ultra professional. This was the strongest outside act we saw the entire cruise. The comedian on the first night (UK guy) was the best comedian of the cruise, hands down. He was really funny. . The magician was pretty amazing too, with some card trick's that i'd never seen before. OK, saving my last bit for complaints. We got internet included in our perks. BIG mistake. I was hoping to do some work while on the cruise. In order to get off 2 weeks straight, i had promised i would get ship internet to return emails, do conference calls, etc. Well....forget that. Speed was between 1 and 2.5 MBPs -- the ENTIRE cruise. I complained about 8 times to the guy who runs the computer lounge. He did NOTHING to assist. I complained over 5 days. He finally came to my room and said the room was in a bad place in the ship and the old metal doors smothered my connectivity. He gave me another room to use for 3 hours during our last day at sea but the internet was equally as bad there. I couldn't do much in terms of emails and conference calls were impossible. He promised $112 of onboard credit since we couldn't use the internet and he never gave it. I had to call him from his bedroom at 12:00 midnight the last night, as the front desk said he never put it in, despite me asking 4 times if he was gonna do it. When he came down he said he couldn't do it, but with no further explanation. I was LIVID. I talked for over an hour with a manager, and they finally agreed to a $100 off future cruise certificate for me and my mom. Not what we were promised but i guess better than nothing. My experience with their computer lounge guy was HORRIFIC. M Our room steward (don't remember his name, which is weird cuz i called his phone about twice a day due to poor service) was one of the worst we'ver ever had. I had to retroactively call him to do things that normally a steward does on his own. Like our luggage. We were completely unpacked and he never put away the suitcases! By 9:00 pm that first night they still weren't put away. I finally called him and asked him to put them away while we went out for drinks Never has that happened before. He also never filled conditioner in the shower. I called him about it on Day 3 and then had to do the same on Day 5, Day 7, etc.... I told him we liked a lil bucket of ice every evening, but seems i had to ask him daily for it if i truly was gonna get any ice. He also accidentally threw away my hair wax and said he didn't. I searched the room top to bottom and so did he. No hair wax. Was there before i left for lunch and gone when i came back from lunch, when the room was cleaned. Weird. I understand stuff like this happens but i had no other back up, so the last 4 days of the cruise my hair looked like death. The wax was stored above the garbage bin. I'm thinking it got knocked off during cleaning and fell into the can and he just took out the trash, with the wax in it. Just my guess. But overall, we enjoyed our cruise. The staff -- aside from the guy in the computer lounge-- was fantastic. Everyone was so nice and cheery during our first day and i really noticed that. They were upbeat so we became upbeat! That was really nice. Even the bartenders on this ship were friendly (Celebrity bartenders, particularly out by the pool, are typically these Jamaican guys who are known for being quite surly). The staff on this ship was about 80% Filipino, and maybe that was why they were friendlier....haha. I got to illustrate my only 2 phrases i know in tagalog, which made the bartenders laugh. Gringo so stoopid. haha Return flight: We flew RyanAir (only direct flight available in the morning from Athens to Budapest). I had flown them before, around 2005 and was NOT impressed. We paid extra for the bulklhead seats for more legroom. The seats though were very narrow and uncomfortable. Thankfully just a 1h 45 min flight. We stayed at an airport hotel in Budapest that night and flew home in the morning. The hotel was fine and the price was good. i needed the day to catch up on work email, so no use in taking a taxi ride into and out of the city when we weren't gonna get to experience any of it. We had lunch at a local McDonald's (that and Burger King was all that was around) where i got a "Maestro Goosey Gustav" sandwich. That's a bun, caramelized onions, mayo, watercress, and grilled goose livers! Hey, when in Rome! It was pretty darned good -- if you like goose livers! We walked to a local mega-store and loaded up on local beers, chips, mixed nuts, cheese, and some wine. We snacked on all this and finally went to bed. The next morning we took Czech Airlines (first time!) from BUD to Prague. Alitalia, when rebooking our Budapest flight on the way from JFK (due to late flight arrival) messed with our return ticket. They somehow kicked us out of our business class seats on Czech Airlines (thanks again, Alitalia...sigh) and when i asked for them to put us back they said they couldn't. They said: "oh well, sorry about that, but it's now showing full," with no partial refund or anything. That airline is just so beyond.... But the kind lady at the Czech Airlines desk figured out the Alitalia booking error and got us back into our seats the morning of departure. They really weren't totally full in biz class after all. The Czech Airline flight attendants were really quite sweet. Their service was fantastic on such a short flight. They reminded me of the great KLM flight attendants i had on a CDG to AMS flight the month prior. They taught my mom a lil secret to combat in-flight cramps (club soda! who knew?!). A complete 180 degree difference from our biz class flight attendants from JFK to Rome on Alitalia. At Prague, we found the skyteam lounge and had a Czech beer. I love czech beer. We only had 20 minutes to spend in the lounge before the flight boarded. We had Delta equipment on our return to JFK. I was so ready for competent service and good food. Delta delivered!! Some of the best food i've had on a Delta ONE (that's what Delta calls their international biz class) flight in several years. And the flight attendants were just heavenly -- funny, sweet, and uber friendly. We told them about our Alitalia flight out and they were like, "Relax, sugar. You're with Delta now. You're in good hands." And they were SO right!! Excellent flight attendants and terrific service. Alitalia needs to look into what Delta does, because their biz model now SUCKS. Arrived in JFK to an absolutely packed JFK lounge. I had never seen it this packed. A big lounge but they're upgrading part of it, so they've temporarily lost some square footage. It took us nearly 5 minutes to find 2 seats together. Wow. Every time we go in there, we always seem to see someone famous. We sat beside Michael J Fox and his wife the year before, as we were heading out to Barcelona. They were heading to Vegas. He was having a really bad day with his Parkinsons and it was evident he was in a lot of pain by the constant grimaceo n his face. His wife was a real champ, tending to his needs and really supporting him. He married a good one there. Time before that i saw Oliver Platt who was just livid over his canceled Delta flight. He had heavily dated one of my former roommies in Atlanta, so i wanted to let him know who i was. But he was in such a bad mood, i just stood clear. haha On this night we sat about 3 tables away from Billy Joel and some lady. I stopped and said "hello" and we chatted for like 30 seconds about ...well...how absolutely full this lounge was! He was blown away too! We flew another Delta flight from JFK to Charlotte. Again -- terrific service from Delta. We were exhausted and let the flight attendants know when they came around to provide pre-departure beverages. But they were super nice and offered us extra pillows, in case we just wanted to sleep. We arrived to Charlotte around 11:00 pm. My stepdad picked us up, we stopped off at a QT for a hot dog and a beer and we got home around 12:15 a.m. Mischief managed. :-P Read Less

We were offered this cruise at a great price we like the P & O dining arrangements and love the entertainment. The prices of duty free also equaled the best at port which was a real bonus, that left more time for leisure when in port. The service in the dining rooms was excellent as was our room service. The Pacific Explorer has a bowling green on deck 11 and we had a great time there with fellow passengers and the host was great. the tendering arrangements were much better than we have experienced before with more tenders operating which made it so much quicker. We didn’t need to get tickets as it was so efficient. The balcony cabin was the standard Princess balcony as the ship was the Dawn Princess previously. We found it nice and clean and the stewards kept it tidy for us. Service at the bars was good but we noticed that they didn’t remember our drinks next day as they did on the Pacific Eden which is a smaller ship. Read Less

My wife and I manage a non profit. We have only taken 3 vacations in 20 years. So choosing the right one was important to us. Money isn't something in the non profit realm that is plentiful. We saved for this trip for a couple years. We chose the 15 day grand European because we don't know when we can do this again. I live in Kentucky so we traveled from here and we met my sister and her spouse where they left from philly and we met in Germany flying into Amsterdam together. We had adjoining veranda with balcony rooms. This trip was amazing. From the rooms, the ship, the tours, the food, atmosphere, david and the rest of the staff were truly wonderful to make this a once in a lifetime experience that makes us want to come back. We had low water going onto the Danube and had a small 3 hour transfer but it was done seamlessly and with great care for us all. The sites were stunning. Sitting on the aquavit terrace or on the top deck or on our balcony was always breathtaking. My wife is 49 and my sister is 71. Im 58 and my sisters spouse is 61. And we all enjoyed every minute of our journey/adventure. You had something for everyone. I cant say enough about how we enjoyed this trip and I would encourage anyone to do it. Even if you think it might not be affordable its worth saving for and making it happen to treat your spouse and self. Read Less

But unfortunately this one no.Inside cabin very small, buffet always same food. The only positive place was the Lighthouse Restaurant staff very nice especially our Waiter Antonio and his wife Sandy.Food was very good and health there. Its the only place we looked forward . Every day at 5 pm huge noise of a drill every single day.So never a siesta. I think Msc are building too many ships in short time ,and things are not being done in good details.Changing of ceiling screen is nice but not everything. We look for nice details,Doors from were you can go to see the sea on most floors. Italian shows used to be better,Cirque de soleil was very nice ,but cancelled once so many missed it . Read Less

My second cruise on the Coral, this time in a balcony A610. A great location with covered balcony allowing us to step out even in the rain and not get our feet wet! This cabin was on the port side, a fantastic location to view the glaciers. Embankment was smooth and efficient. Sailaway was under sunny skies for a 7 day Alaska cruise-last of the season. We had the beverage package, gratuity and OBC as perks for this sailing. Very convenient for all drinks including specialty coffees and bottled water. Was very wet and stormy in Juneau, Skagway was phenomenal as was Glacier Bay. We were unable to dock in Ketchikan which was very disappointing. Activities on board were great but many overlapping so had to choose. Could have had more variety in entertainment comedian twice ventriloquist twice and on show was the Piano bar Don Juan show. Great show. Read Less

Be prepared to cough up a lot of extra money! Everything’s got an extra price on it. Photos are an unbelievable price! Average $20-30 each printed picture of about 5x7 or 8x10. And there are ALOT of pictures being taken- photographers are everywhere trying to pump this money making machine... whilst also talking you that you can’t take photos with your own phone of your family/child with the characters/port set up. Dr seuss breakfast- extra cost PLUS find yourself again paying $20 each picture taken with different characters. Food is ok in the dinning room, but you will find generally below average and luke warm in most places. Bingo- $35 for 5 games! Port stops in the Great Barrier Reef are very poor and EXTREMELY rushed. Expect to get about one hour to snorkel on most shore tours due to the very limited time spent at the ports of Airlie beach, Yorkeys Knob and port Douglas (meanwhile again coughing up on average $200+ pp for a snorkel tour of the reef) Oh and be aware your account will be held for all purchases while your sailing and will not be released when you get back BUT carnival will charge you the entire amount on top. Essentially double dipping into you account until the “holds” of amounts are released which they attempt to put back on to you own bank being the problem not them. I have sailed in the past and enjoyed but this time I will not come back the this company. Read Less

Boarding the Norwegian Sky felt like I was visiting a prison. Everyone was very serious and not friendly. It took away the excitement you feel when going on vacation. Hospitality and customer service is what vacation hosting is all about. Norwegian fell very flat in this arena. The food could not be worse. This was my first Norwegian cruise and I will sail Carnival any day over going back to Norwegian. The food seemed old and reheated. Very poor quality. Specialty dining was over priced and terrible at Cagney's. Le Bistro was the only exception. The food was EXCELLENT and the staff was beyond AMAZING. Although the Norwegian Sky is extremely old and dated, the ship was fairly clean, which is important to us. However, the cabin was so small. Our toilet overflowed and wet our carpet. Our room steward got us a carpet blower and cleaned it all up. But we felt someone could have come and apologized about the whole ordeal and perhaps offered to move us to another room, as the smell was terrible for our last night. I do not recommend this cruise line or this ship. Happy cruising to all on another cruise line!! Read Less

We chose this cruise and cruise line based on many great reviews that we read. We wanted something short as this was my first cruise and also we were wanting to bring our 18 month old. We were so excited to see they offered child care for children and the rooms were very nice with a lot of toddler activities or so it seemed. We were extremely disappointed. They advertise child care but don’t advertise their hours. We called NUMEROUS times to get details on the day care and never really got a straight forward answer. SO, here is the TRUTH! They offer child care from 8-10 am. And 10pm-1am. Which are both extremely unreasonable. Our son is asleep before 10, and we wanted to spend time with him in the mornings before people got too crazy later in the day. So the childcare was not beneficial to us in the least bit. The drink package is nice but what they don’t tell you is once you reach your 15 drinks you aren’t even allowed to purchase anything additional. For most people this wouldn’t be an issue. For anyone who might exceed that, here was your warning, lol. Also, you might as well just find a place to sit for the day and make sure it’s near a bar. You have to wait 5 minutes between each drink with the drink package but it takes about 20-25 minutes to get a drink. The cruise director “No-no” is awesome and made every activity so much fun! Even to watch since we didn’t participate in any activities due to no daycare like they advertise. It would have been nice to be able to go to shows and drop the baby off for those times but that wasn’t the case. Every staff member we encountered was extremely enjoyable and you could tell they loved their job. The only exception to that is the bartender in the sky box. I didn’t catch his name but each time we went in there he was extremely rude and obviously overwhelmed. Read Less

We chose RC after taking a Carnval and Disney cruise in the past. Me and my 2 kids (15,5) traveled to Galveston from KC to board the ship and were pleasantly suprised by how quickly we boarded (reason #1 for 2 stars). The other great experience was the dining experience. Our waiters and food were top notch! Other than that, nothing was very positive. Our stateroom was dated and creaked all night long. Balcony was dirty and slick with hair all over the floor. I wanted to buy a beverage package and was sent to 3 different lines where all service members helped the people ordering alcohol before me and my kids. Even though we arrived first. This was likely as th 18% grat was guaranteed. $10 tip for the WORST service. And guess what? Still no beverage.... This was only the beginning of the disappointment... Jump zone was closed due to wind for entire voyage. Rock wall opened 2 times in 5 days. The shows were all geared towards folks over 60 yrs and every single drink was over $16 with tip. EVERYTHING was an UPCHARGE, ice cream, fancy bar cocktails, EVERYTHING. They even charge $25 a towel if not returned back to pool officers. Our first port, Costa Maya was changed to Yucatan (where nothing was offerred). We had dolphins scheduled there and were told we could do dolphins elsewhere for EVEN MORE MONEY!!! Leaving us with NOTHING to do on the first island. Costa Maya was the reason we booked this cruise. I cannot stress enough how the disappointments kept coming and coming. Needless to say, Cozumel was gorgeous but we could have flown there for one day for half the cost and done more. This ship is old, rusty and has NOTHING but drinking and gambling to offer. Read Less

This was our first cruise in Europe as we are from Australia. The organisation getting on the ship at Rome was very well organised and very quick compared to other cruises we have been on. The rooms were very nice, well fitted and clean, also among the best we have experienced. We did not like the dining experience on deck twelve as it was like pigs feeding at the trough. Other restaurants were very nicely laid out and for the most part the service was quite good. We had the alcohol package which we found to be quite good value as compared with other cruises we have taken, but were annoyed that with the package we still had to pay for coffee other than the vile stuff that was served with meals. And also had to pay for bottled water. I am a person who likes to take a sauna on a cruise so imagine my surprise when told that I could BUY a sauna package for $260 US to have a sauna. (NOT GOOD). The entertainment was well below par, for the most point I think it was carried out by the ships crew and some very mediocre performers, so if your think you will have a huge range of entertainment think again. The ports of call were quite interesting and if you want to organise your own tours I would recommend it rather than pay the extortionist prices charged by the cruise line. The fee to travel to Rome Airport you should also try to organise yourself as the ship line first charged us 80 Euro each, then later in the cruise put out a SPECIAL of $60 US. The same trip can be got for about $35- $40 per head (More Gouging). Yes overall we had a good time but this was mainly from meeting nice people and having a good time with little help from the cruise ship. Would I go again, I would say probably not. Read Less

I have been on 5 cruises previously with 4 different cruiselines (including Disney, Princess, and Royal Carribean). My experience on Norwegian Gem was by far the worst. 1. The stateroom is poorly designed, with no outlets near the head of the bed. Family members with CPAP machines had to run extension cords across the entire room to be able to use their medical device. 2. Stateroom did not seem fully stocked. I found out halfway through the cruise that hand/body lotion is readily available but was never stocked in my room for no clear reason. 3. The food was one of the biggest disappointments. Many dishes came out cold, and the portions for the appetizers are laughable. The food taste was mediocre at best. In particular, the quality of the food at Orchid Garden is not tasty at all. The buffet has poor variety. Despite having a large space, each food station is duplicated, so there is really only half the selection. And attempts at cost-saving were obvious... other cruises have smoked salmon, and this cruise had salmon spread. The tikka masala was always some vegetable rather than chicken. Just a few examples. 4. Having to tender to ports is terrible, and I left with the sense that my cruise experience was diminished due to cost-saving decisions by the cruiseline. 2 ports were cancelled due to weather preventing safe use of tender boats, but other cruise boats were able to dock at those ports on the same day as their cruiselines booked the pier rather than resorting to using tender boats. At one of the ports we actually made it to, delays in the tendering process led to our group having to wait 3.5 hours after our arrival time to actually make it onto a tender boat, so the time available to actually enjoy the port was lessened. 5. When ports were canceled due to weather, the cruise staff revised the activity options. But all I could see were more sales and charged activities (wine/whisky tastings). It's bad enough to miss out on a port, but then to have the cruiseline only open up activities that you have to pay more for is ridiculous. 6. My cruise benefit was to save $50 per port on shore excursions, and I was unable to use that benefit as half the ports were canceled. I had unused "non-refundable" credit that I asked be applied to the service charge since I was unable to use it on a shore excursion, and I was told that wasn't allowed. If a port is canceled, I would hope the cruiseline would go out of their way to try and improve the experience rather than make it more frustrating. 7. The cruise staff was overall friendly but one staff member (female cruise staff member from USA) was rude. She was managing elevator use while it was restricted for 4 hours due to tender boats. 8. The layout of the boat is poorly planned. With disabled members in our party, it was frustrating to have to take elevators up to a certain floor to walk across the boat and then take another elevator down to get to the main dining hall (which is a location we needed to get to 1-2x every day). We took this cruise following my daughter’s wedding in Positano. We were a group of 10, and thought the ports of call looked interesting—and many were. My husband and I love to cruise, and are pretty faithful to Celebrity, so I can’t help but compare this NCL experience to those of our Celebrity cruises to Europe. The ship itself is in pretty good shape—clean and well-maintained. The interesting thing about it is that, although there are fewer passengers aboard the Pearl than there are on celebrity’s millennium-class ships, it felt so very crowded! The pool deck and the bar area on deck 13 were continuously packed, with people searching for seats (and ashtrays, in the smoking area). The cabin was small, but functional. Our dining experiences aboard the Pearl were generally poor. Even in the steakhouse, the chefs seemed unable to cook a steak to-order. We also had a dinner in la Cucina. It was less than memorable. The food was edible, though not terribly tasty. We had breakfast in the cafe most days. It was routine (i.e. the same thing every day). I think the specialty restaurant reservation system needs a total overhaul: We had made a reservation for 4 at the steakhouse, and tried to change to 5 prior to our seating. We were told by the staff that, if we wanted to make that change, we would have to change our reservation from 7:00 to 10:00. When we did sit down for dinner (after abandoning the idea of adding another person), they seated the four of us at a table for six!! Needless to say, we were not at all happy about that. We tried to get reservations at the teppanyaki restaurant for days, but the staff was unable to accommodate us. We didn’t see any shows, so I can’t comment on the quality of them. We did enjoy Dave, the piano player, and the string quartet. Service overall was not great. Grumpy bartenders (especially at the bar on 13) and the restaurants seem to be short-staffed. We frequently waited for quite a long time to order, and at one meal, we ordered desserts that never came. If you need help with the WiFi package, be aware that their IT guy only works with passengers three hours a day. Some of the ports were absolutely stunning: Dubrovnik is a favorite of ours, and it is as beautiful as ever. We hadn’t been to Montenegro before, but we will surely make it a point to return. (We wouldn’t, however, take NCL’s catamaran cruise again. $189 for a three hour, one-way cruise to a bar?? No thanks.) All things considered, I’ll stick with Celebrity. Read Less

We went in to this cruise expecting to be impressed. Everyone I know who has been on a cruise has loved it, raved about it, told me "you'll LOVE it - once you cruise you never go back!" And many people are repeat cruisers, so I was expecting it to be pretty enjoyable. Well....it was OK. I mean, it was better than being at work. However it was pretty massively disappointing as well. The ship itself was pretty dated. Our cabin (4007) wasn't awful, it was spacious enough, but the bathtub was grotty and full of mold, the fixtures all seemed a bit cheap and like they had lived a hard life. The bed was reasonably comfortable. The food was a massive disappointment. The Pantry was just gross - the food was cold and inedible 90% for the time, and it was like feeding time at the zoo - just a herd of bodies trying to ram as much food in to themselves as possible. We preferred the Waterfront, which had table service and was a generally nicer atmosphere, but the food here was extremely disappointing as well, generally tasteless and often cold, with very few options. My kids hated the children's choices as well, with the gruel-like "kid's favourite soup" and other strange choices. Kids like chicken nuggets and chips, standard sandwiches, pizza....these shoudl be standard, consistent options. We tried Angelo's one night and were hugely disappointed here as well. The chef seems to think Heinz tomato sauce is a pasta sauce, as it seemed to feature heavily in the pasta bolognese and lasagna. We cancelled our second booking. We tried Dragon Lady once. The grilled trout available one night was amazing. Everything else was again, cold, weird and barely edible. It was like they were trying too hard to make the meals interesting and exotic, but they missed the mark wildly, and we would have been far happier with standard Asian fare actually done well. Service was OK in all restaurants. Not great. Not terrible. A bit slow, but not like we had anywhere to go. The best food we had were the pizza's at The Grill that had to be purchased. They were pretty cheap, but felt like a bit of a rip off given it was meant to be all inclusive. The ports were were interesting, although we were MASSIVELY disappointed that the volcano tour in Rabaul didn't actually go up (or anywhere near) the volcano. We stayed on shore as long as possible at each port to feel like we were actually traveling. The evening entertainment, bars etc weren't bad, but got old quickly. As my husband said "it's like being on a floating Wests club". The pool was pretty tiny, but ok. The Dolphin statues seemed like a pointless decoration given they were draped in signs saying "Do not enter this area". The cocktails were pretty tasty by and large. My kids loved the kids club, and here I would give them 5 stars - the kid's staff were amazing, and they had a ball making new friends and going to all the kids' events. All in all - pretty sure we aren't "cruise" people after this, and I tend to think that the people who are (if this was all standard) have very low expectations. Read Less

We’ve done many transatlantic and transpacific cruises, most of which offered many activities and good entertainment for the many sea days. Unfortunately, this 18-day transpacific cruise was sorely lacking in both entertainment and enrichments opportunities, and was a boring experience overall. This was made all the worse by inclement weather that forced us to spend a lot of time indoors. And the few entertainment events that were offered almost always conflicted with dining times. As for the ship itself, Radiance of the Seas is an older ship in great need of some basic refurbishment. The lounge chairs and theatre seating are badly worn (some with tears) and very uncomfortable. The deck floor of our balcony was all rust, and the balcony chairs extremely uncomfortable because of worn seat cushions. The ship’s cruise director was a complete amateur, curt and unfunny. He took great delight in telling us he was leaving on vacation after this cruise, and we were sorry he didn’t leave sooner. The two so-called “enrichment” speakers were equally amateurish and, no doubt, came at little cost to the cruise line. The good news: service overall and in all venues was excellent, and both the service and food in the MDR was very good. Unfortunately, the breakfast and lunch buffet were limited and mediocre at best, with many repeat offerings. Lastly, we were very disappointed at how slovenly many of the passengers were, and that the ship’s staff did not enforce their own dress codes. Men wore shorts and cutoff t-shirts at dinner in the main dining room even on evenings when “casual chic” was requested. When we complained, we were told that people interpret “casual” differently. We’ve had good experience with RCCL in general, but this sailing reflected a definite cut-back in overall quality and care. This sailing was not inexpensive, but definitely over-priced for what was provided and from a comfort standpoint, and will cause us to think twice about RCCL in the future. Read Less

Been wanting to visit Hawaii for a long time. Cruising the islands was the best choice. We were able to secure a suite for the trip and it was fantastic. Room was spacious for the 3 of us and the service was outstanding. We dined in the specialty dinning restaurants mostly because of prepackage we bought, well worth it. The food on the buffet was mediocre. The excursions were rather expensive so we rented a car to explore the islands. It was easy to get around and very economical for our group of 5. If you like a thrilling ride and snorkeling I recommend doing the Captain Zodiac rafting ride in Kona. Fun and the scenery is exquisite and snorkeling is easy even for the novice. Entertainment on board was excellent with a variety of comedy , musical , and magic. One of the most enjoyable cruises that I have been on. I would do it again without hesitation. Read Less

My family and I just returned from the 5 day Exotic Eastern Caribbean on the the Carnival Elation. Let me 1st start off by we never made it to any of our designated ports. My family and I have cruised a lot over the years and this by far was the worst cruise we have ever been on. This ship is older even after been refurbished in 2018. There is not a lot of activities on board, the staff is very unfriendly especially at the bars and Pixels. The pool is very small and the serenity deck has no pools only 2 hot tubs that the water was always freezing. We stayed on Deck 14 and the entire time we were on the ship there was only 1 working elevator on the ship that went to Deck 14. And half the time you had couldn't get on the elevator because there was a group of teenagers who were constantly joy riding on the elevator. The food on Lido was not great, and every time we ate at the dining room we were rushed by the staff. And if you purchase the alcohol package the drinks are very watered down. From the time the ship departed on Sat the entire ship was rocking. So badly that passengers were experiencing motion sickness. We departed on Sat 9/21 and was informed on Sunday that due to the ship experiencing mechanical problems we will not be docking at any of the designated ports. We were re routed to Nassau on Monday to see if the ship could be repaired, and left on Tuesday morning with the ship still not being able to be repaired.. There were no excursions offered by Carnival in Nassau because of the previous hurricane in the Bahamas. We were informed that we will be compensated with $100 on board credit per person and 50% off a future sailing. On board credit which you had to use on there ship, so in reality we got no compensation. I fully understand that sometimes issues comes up beyond our control, but I also believe in being treated fairly. The compensation we received for this cruise was terrible considering the hassle we went through. At no point and time was it any of the guest fault that the ship had mechanical issues. Carnival needs to step up and give all there guests that was on this sailing all a better compensation. My family and I probably would not consider Carnival for our next cruise unless we get some other form of compensation for this sailing. This ship needs to be retired it's old and outdated with just too many issues! Read Less

What a complete joke of a cruise. The ship is completely outdated, the food is subpar and not being able to actually go to your destination makes it a very frustrating experience. There was a billow of black smoke pouring out of one side of the stacks as we were about to depart. I knew something was wrong right away. Then the proceeded to take us into 10-15ft swell while telling us that we're not going to make our destinations due to engine problems. Incremental weather I understand but engine problems? I'd that's the case refund us instead of offering some measly ship credit. They should have decommissioned this ship because everything about is old. The pool holds 50 people max with a 2000+ people on board. The 3 jacuzzis are smaller than my bath tub at home and the decor is something out of an 80's movie. Somehow the stars on Cruise Critic show 4 but you can see its actually less than 3.5 stars..... Read Less

20 cruises over 25 years and it certainly isn’t getting better. Every other activity on the daily schedule was either pay for it or they’re trying to sell something. Food quality is way down activities are almost nil unless you pay for them. Norwegian joy to Alaska is booked as a one day at sea when it was actually three days. So much for truth in advertising. One stop in Victoria BC is from 8 PM to 12 midnight that’s one of the days at sea in my opinion. I would suggest buying the dining package because the food on deck is fair at best. No more 24 hour pizza at one end and burgers at the other no more midnight chocolate buffets. The ship was built in 2017 and was quite elegant but lacked in any sports activities. Race track for kids and adults but quite expensive huge arcade also very expensive. Service overall was very good especially in the dining room and cabin. Shore excursions when booked through the cruise line are outrageously priced although Alaska tends to be more expensive. Read Less

Alaska was a bucket list trip for my mother and father. Unfortunately, my mother passed away and my father is starting to lose mobility. So, this was a very important trip for my sister and I to take with my father, and Alaska did not disappoint. The embarkation went smoothly, we were on the ship by 11:30 am which is a very impressive turnaround time. The ship is amazing as always. NCL ships tend to have a very similar layout, so I already knew my way around the 19 deck (20 if you include laser tag) floating luxury hotel. On the Joy they also have Galaxy Pavilion which is a virtual reality arcade. I walked around it with my sister and it seemed really interesting and an unique idea for a cruise ship. Spice H20 has a huge hot top much bigger than their other ships. Of course, I was most impressed by being able to sit in a hot top while staring at glaciers. The dinning I have mixed views on: Buffet: Convenient, easy to grab something quick, great for an easy breakfast, the omelette station is good for getting fresh eggs, but the food did not really stand out. Observation Lounge: Great place for getting a snack! The first day I had a spinach focaccia bread that was delicious, I kept going back hoping they would have more, but it was only there the first day. Surprisingly, the deserts they had there were different than the ones at the buffet and better! If you like carrot cake look for it at the observation lounge! Local: Their appetizers are great; they have a Greek watermelon feta salad that's good. Their burgers are burgers and a bit over-cooked to my taste (I was surprised that they did not ask me how I wanted it) Taste/Savor/Manhattan Room: Their main dinning is good. Their steak/beef menu options are nothing to write home about. (Granted I have to take into account that I may have been a bit spoiled by my first two nights at specialty restaurants) I was however impressed by their appetizers in fact one night I order 3 apps instead of getting an entree. Their deserts were fabulous! NCL knows how to do desserts across every restaurant that they have on board. Temppanyaki: Was spectacular! The show was good, the fried rice and vegetables were good, but most importantly the filet mignon melted in your mouth. This restaurant is a must! I love hibachi and NCL out does most if not all of the hibachi places I have been to. Cagney's: The service here was beyond compare. You can tell NCL takes pride in this restaurant! The steak was great and do not even get me started on how amazing the truffle mash potatoes were. La Cucina: This was my least favorite out of the specialty restaurants. It was good and better than main dinning (though the service was not anything special, and I had some great waiter in the main dining rooms that were more attentive) The burrata was my favorite part and the pesto gnocchi was also very good. Entertainment was pretty good. I really enjoyed elements it was different, engaging, and had amazing special effects, it is a must see! The performers were also friendly and fun! The game shows were always nice to stop and watch in the atrium, I love the shows that include guests, they are always funny, and a good time. There were some days that not much in the itinerary seemed interesting, but I grabbed some friends I met on board and started a game of cards in the observation lounge which was just as fun. Dan Dan the cruise director was great, and I really enjoyed him in late night entertainment. If you like dancing the social is the place to go however, I do have some mixed feelings there. For the most part the service was spectacular. However, I did have an unfortunate incident (which happened to be on my birthday) where a crew member yelled at me, then my sister and it caused my sister to get upset because she is shy and quiet. (Which made me more upset) The next day my sister ran the cruise critic and I met the officers. Martin Ivanov the general manager said to come with him to with any concerns, and without much detail I told him it was my Birthday and this crew member was a jerk and provided him with a picture of the crew members badge. I have to say both him and Ana Maria Malata really took care of me and helped make my birthday special, I was blown away. My cabin Steward was amazing I some how do not have a picture of his badge but I his name was Joevi (I probably misspelled that) He decorated my cabin and hand wrote a birthday card for me. I felt bad about making a compliant and was so impressed by the crew that I thought “whatever everyone has bad days.” Unfortunately, the second to last night at the 80’s party in the social. The crew member that I said was a “jerk” confronted me saying that I got him in trouble. (I am not using his name because I really do not want anyone to be in trouble) He might have meant well, but he was in no way apologizing and, even kind of threatened me, so awkward. I work in corporate management and it made me cringe to think of employee confronting a complaint/ threatening a client. It is a bit sad that I had to avoid a crew member on the ship, but at that point the cruise was almost over and I really did not want to be involved, I just wanted to enjoy my vacation. The rest of the crew was amazing, and I really hope if I go on another NCL cruise that I will not have to deal with an angry crew member, and that no other future passenger does either. Excursions: Juno: Canoeing/Glaciers Fun but there was no wildlife, they did provide rain gear which was a bonus Skagway: Kayaking Cold, but beautiful. I saw bald eagles, a bear, and tons of salmon! Ketchikan: Lumberjack Show/ Totem Park Lumberjack show was a bit cheesy but fun and learning the history of clans in Alaska through Totem stories was a cool experience. Glacier Bay: Not an excursion but still an amazing day on the boat. NCL opened the bow of the boat for close viewing, provided blankets, and even had an expert on board to talk about the glaciers. Disembarkation was well organized even though there was a line/wait to get off the ship. Read Less

First time cruising with Norwegian.. I would go again but I would not let them book my flights again. Getting off the airplane and to the ship was no problem for us. For our connecting flight in Atlanta we had to run so we wouldn’t miss our flight we literally got on board and they shut the door. My dad’s experience was not so great at 79 years old everyone at the airport for Norwegian was gone so he had to lug his own suitcase to the bus pick up area. He almost didn’t make it to the ship. He was so stressed. Going home our flights weren’t any better we had to sit in the airport for over 12 hours and having to stay awake for more than 24 hours not the best way to end the vacation. Onto food.. The buffet was good but in my opinion they could have switched up the food better and had more options. When we did get food from there it was cold. The free fancy restaurants were amazing and the food was great. While I liked the “freestyle” dining I did miss seeing everyone dressed up. They need better photographers on board most of our pictures were not taken well. While on board my card was de-activated this was due to the girl at the check in counter using my pass port to identify me which has my maiden name. This threw off all my information I had entered months ago when I booked the cruise. Then I had to prove who I was. The guest services lines were very long. My dad who is a smoker only had one place to go smoke all the way in the back of the ship on the 17th floor. Long walk for all the elderly smokers on board. Getting off the ship at each port was a breeze and each port was amazing… Our excursions was amazing as well. Getting off the ship was a nightmare a lot of mad people being told different things as to which line to be in. Read Less

This was our first cruise and I think we picked the perfect cruise! Being able to be at port daily made it very appealing! Visiting all of the Hawaiian islands in one trip was amazing! The views were breathtaking at every stop (and from our balcony especially during the trip around the Na Pali Coast)! The ship was clean and the staff was great! Everyone was very personable and polite and always had a great big Aloha to greet you! Our room attendant was great and made sure to keep everything well stocked and clean. There were plenty of food options even for the pickiest of eaters. And we had our favorite server that we ate breakfast with every morning after we found her which was nice! The spa was great however the only suggestion would be to have the thermal chairs near windows so you could relax while enjoying the views :) The nightly entertainment was always on point! Jami the cruise director was phenomenal and we saw her daily which was awesome! She even got in the pool and played water volleyball with the rest of the staff! The onboarding activities including making leis were fun and educational. The Hawaiian ambassador was full of knowledge! We did the helicopter tour in Hilo which was unlike any other experience I've ever had! Flying over an active volcano was a thrill for sure and worth every penny! Karaoke was super fun! There was already plenty to do at each port! If like to know if there are any particular theme nights before we said so that i can come prepared to fully participate (i.e 70's and 80's nights and the all white party). If you are looking for good food, this is not the ship for you! The general staff were very good with the exception of the front desk personnel. If you have an issue, be prepared if you speak English they may not understand you. For the price of the cruise, the trip was great. There were plenty of chairs available on the deck for sun lounging. Entertainment was good and had a nice verity of shows. The Gastropub was excellent, don't waste your money on Share by Chris Stone, selection not very good. As a premium class guest with Princess, embarkation and disembarkation was great with little or no time spent on the process. Some of the ports (Malta) the ship could have spent more time at rather than the Greek ports. Read Less

This was technically a 22 day cruise, but we only did the 11 day portion of Barcelona to Rome. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary plus the price and the perks were good. There were 7 of us and overall, it was a great experience. The staff was excellent and the passengers were very friendly. We all made new friends. It is a beautiful ship. The piazza midship is stunning. We all agreed the cabins could do with a freshening up in decor; it was a little bit dated. However, the rooms were spotless. The mini-suites are large and roomy with a full size bathroom and lots of storage. My parents and sister had electrical and plumbing problems with their room, but Dennis, their steward, handled the situations promptly and efficiently. The food experience onboard got mixed reviews amongst our group. My parents and sister did not enjoy their main dining dinner experience the first night onboard and never went back. The group went to Steamers one night and those that had the mussels enjoyed the experience, but those that had the fried platter were disappointed. We all enjoyed: Share, Crown Grill, World Market Buffet, The Salty Dog Grill on the lido deck, Slices, The International Cafe, Room Service & Coffees and Cones. We only saw a couple of the shows in the Princess Theatre and they were fun. Karaoke in Club Fusion was good. The Maitre D wine tasting experience was excellent as was the Love Boat disco party. Embarkation was poorly done, but disembarkation was a breeze. For our group, the shore excursions booked through the cruise ship were the biggest disappointment, specifically those that took ship tours to Marseilles, Florence and Capri. It's a lot of money to put out and not have a wonderful time. All in all it was a great time and we would definitely consider another Princess cruise in the future. Read Less
