The only good thing on the ship was our cabin steward. Most bartenders were horrible and we couldn’t make it to our last stop, clearly not Norwegian’s fault but they should’ve done something to compensate us because it wasn’t our fault either.. This was my first time on Norwegian and I was really hoping for a different experience, I’m not saying I won’t go on another cruise but definitely not the breakaway.. I didn’t get sick but we were a group of 11 and almost everyone else got sick to their stomachs.. They said they would credit us for service charges, no one credited me back.. Overall I spent a lot of time in my room watching tv because I didn’t have to deal with rude service people, again not all were rude but there were a lot, especially bartenders.. Not a very good experience for a first time.. Read Less

My sister and her husband chose this cruise and we joined her on it. There was a major delay on embarkation due to Hurricane Dorian. Some people received numerous notifications from NCL and a lot of others were like us with no notification. I will not forget pulling up to the pier and not seeing a ship docked. We were able to drop off the suitcases but were giving conflicting information on when to return. We narrowed it down to the ship was going to leave at 8pm or 10 pm. To fill in the hours we decided to get tickets to a Broadway show. The upside was we enjoyed the show and it filled in the time the downside was spending $500 before we even got on the ship. We arrived back at the pier at 5:30 where people were being directed to go to another terminal because it was over crowded. I am platinum on NCL so we were able to go in and get on that line which saved some time. They started checking my line in at a little after 6 and it moved pretty quickly. We went straight to Osheehans got a table and thankfully we had a wonderful server. I think her name was Jamika from Grenada. She really helped diffuse my anger. I will say the first day of the cruise was ruined. I didn’t get my luggage till after 11 pm instead of being at a show we were doing a muster drill. I felt bad for my sister and brother in law paying $15 dollars for each glass of wine in NYC when they should have been using their beverage package. If just one of us in our group of 5 had received a notification of the delay we would not have been in the city so early. It was irritating to hear some people started getting text messages, and robo calls 2 days before the cruise and our group got nothing. Moving on, the Escape is big and there is only a set of elevators in the front and a set in the rear which means a lot of walking to mid ship and back. Our room was right by the elevator on deck 11 forward. Perfect location for us. I had my 10,000 steps by 2pm everyday. The food in MDR was very good. We had great service from Jaha and his sister Sarah. We enjoyed OSheenans for breakfast and had 2 dinners there also. The comedians on the ship were really entertaining and super friendly when you ran into them on the ship or in the ports. Choir of men and Midnight were very good and when you could get a seat Howl at the Moon was good.I enjoyed our cruise but comparing this ship to the Anthem of the Seas that we did in July I liked RCI better. I felt there was more to do on Anthem. The other major problem on Escape is the smoke in the casino. They have to come up with a better ventilation system. I came home with acute sinusitis. Read Less

The people working on the ship are amazing! They made our trip extraordinary and special. I find that the services provides from embarkation are way above our expectations. I like that all the staff were smiling and greeted us all the time. The food was delicious and we had so many choices. We are able to customise our dining experience by having the main course at one place and dessert at another. Thanks to Debbie and all the food staff for all your hardwork. I can only imagine how hard it is to feed an entire ship. The shore excursions are great and we find best value for money. Thanks to Gemma for helping us out which ones to go to. The public areas of the ships are clean and that is where we stayed most of the time. Our cabin was spotless all the time! Thanks to Marck for cleaning our cabin all the time. We had a lovely time and we are looking forward to cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line again! Read Less

I have been planning and reviewing this cruise for a year! I have read so many reviews and now that I have been on the ship I have to say that whomever doesnt enjoy themselves on a trip like this will never be happy !!!! We had the best time ever. The crew and service were AMAZING. The ship was AMAZING. The excursions were AMAZING. The ship was perfect to see Alaska. We just couldnt have had a better time. We have sailed NCL many times and we splurged and booked the HAVEN because it was my 50th birthday, all I can say is wow, double wow, wow wow...... It will hard to ever go back to "regular rooms" again. Our personal staff were remarkable. We didnt want for a single thing on this ship. We felt like royalty. Worth every penny!!! I did notice that there were a few minutes of traffic jams at the elevators right after the shows were over but that is to be expected. It is just like when going to a concert or sporting event. When you leave you have to be patient to get out of the parking lot.....I really didnt notice anyone having a real problem with it. As I said prior, it would be really hard to get upset about much when you are on a ship like this. The ship itself was beautiful. We saw both our private observation deck and the one for the rest of the ship and they were both aimed to please!!! And did!! Entertainment was very good. We only saw female entertainers other than the comedian which is a first on any ship we have been on. We just saw Jersey Boys at the Theatre in town so we did not see it on the ship. We saw SIX, and Prohibition, which was definitely worth the upcharge. LIke I said the comedian was top notch. We played the games, and really kept busy. We did not try the lazer tag or the go carts, mainly because it was just cold and there were a few "rocky" moments with the waters and my mom didnt want to be outside. Again, the staff were just the icing on the cake and we couldnt be happier. Read Less

We got a deal on the inside cabin and decided to try inside for the first time. Embarkation was good. Since the previous week’s cruise was cancelled, we were able to get into our stateroom right away. We were pleasantly surprised by the inside cabin. Enough room, but the shelves in the closet were a little narrow. Lots of hangers . We ended up rearranging things so we could use the shelf above the hangers for clothes. A/C worked great. Our one bottle of wine was taken away from us. We weren’t even given the option of paying corkage. Menu in the dining room was good. Lots of variety. Since my daughter has food allergies, we were given the next night’s menu and pre ordered her meal. We did see someone with wine that they don’t sell on board in the dining room and wondered how they got it on board. Food was sometimes served cool. My daughter’s soup was cool enough that the cheese didn’t melt. My steak was well done instead of med well. I had to go to the casino bar for drinks and was back with drinks before anyone showed up to see if we wanted drinks Three shows that we seen in the theatre was good. There was a lot of entertainment at the atrium. From movies to trivia to lectures. Drink service in the casino was lacking. We waited over an hour for someone to come around. We had to ask the slot attendant twice to see if they could find a server for us. One time I was served vodka, Club soda and cranberry juice instead of just soda and cranberry. Good thing I’m not an alcoholic or can’t drink alcohol because I was so thirsty and had a big gulp of it. One time my daughter went to a bar for a drink and was waiting when a bunch of “pretty girls” came along and the bartender served them first. We did not do any shore excursions offered through NCL. Overall, it was an ok cruise but not the best that I’ve been on. Read Less

Having cruised Celebrity from Southampton for the last 5 years, we chose the September cruise to the Med because of its itinerary, we normally go earlier in the summer. The ship continues to look better than others newly refurbed although she is due hers early next year. Food was awesome and we struggled to choose most nights in the MDR. The crew were fantastic! Only gripes I would have was that our 15 yr old son was the only teenager on this cruise so struggled to keep himself entertained as most of the teen activities were cancelled, but he still had a great time. The lawn Grill food was excellent along with the service but left us a tad cold regarding the cost and that the menu didn't have chips to go with a wonderful steak, so ordered a baked potato, only to find that I could have ordered them anyway, why not state this on the menu? Please Celebrity lets stop the Café Bacho becoming a library on sea days!? If folks aren't taking a coffee/tea etc they should be moved on, not be allowed to sit for hours just reading a book! As I say these are gripes, again we had a fantastic cruise, and booked on board for next year on the re-imagined Silhouette 274 days and counting!!! Read Less

We were on the September 8th to the 15th cruise out of New York. Because of hurricane Dorian the Escape was delayed coming back. Celebrity's ship left Bermuda with them and had no problems getting back so I don't know why the Escape was so delayed. We were notified about the delay and were told to arrive after 4 pm. So many people we met were not notified about the delay. Embarkation was a nightmare where we waited on line for hours. We later learned some people received tickets for water and chips but we never did and neither did the people in line with us. I was more disappointed that NCL did not try to compensate us for the half day we lost enjoying the ship and the one meal we lost. Our lost was the delayed ships gain since those passengers got to eat our lunch and did not get off the ship to late afternoon. An OBC of $25 per cabin would have been a nice gesture on NCL's behalf. The Escape is a very large ship and we did plenty of walking. The crew is amazing and service was great. The ship was very clean and you always saw crew cleaning. We have sailed NCL many times and this was the first time we were not impressed with the food on the ship. This also was the first time we were booked in an inside cabin since we booked three weeks before. Cabin was doable with plenty of storage but I missed the day light. Our cabin was on the 9th deck forward and we were able to hear the music or movies playing in the theater at night. The noise did not bother us but it might bother others if they go to bed before midnight. My son had a solo cabin and he said it was great. There was actually plenty of room and storage in it. He liked it better than the inside cabin. The Escape does a fabulous job for the CC Meet & Greet. It was held at the District Brewery and the officers actually mingle with you. Our roll call was invited back for a special gathering where again the officers mingled with us, beer tasting and hors d'oeuvres were served. The Escape knows how to appreciate the cruise critic members. We had a slot pull which was lots of fun. Thanks to those who arranged our M&G and slot pull. I thought the night time shows were okay, nothing special but that is just my opinion. We had beautiful weather on our cruise and the seas were very calm that you didn't even know you were moving. We loved Bar Harbor and Saint John. We did walk off disembarkation and it was the fastest we have ever gotten off the ship and through customs. All in all we had a great cruise. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we love cruising. We find this way of travelling very relaxing and at the same time interesting. You can visit many cities and have a general idea of all the places the ship stop. The ship has all you need to have a fantastic vacation time. We never have to wait for a table to eat. The restaurants, all of them are amazing. The chef Ivan, from Chile took really good care of us. He showed as the kitchen and we were surprised how everything was being prepare for each meal in all of the restaurants. The cabin was very comfortable, as well as the bed and pillows, but the best part in the cabin was the bathroom. Really big for a ship bath with warm floor. They have service twice a day to keep the cabin always tidy and clean. We love the entertainment, the 4 young vocalists were exceptional, same as the pianists and the 2 girls who played stringed instruments. We only were sad because the ship couldn't stop in Poland port due to weather conditions. The excursions were very interesting same as the guides, specially Helen in Saint Petersburg. We did some included excursions and some prepaid ones. We already booked a future trip to Egypt in a Viking river for 2021. We recommend the pre and post cruise extensions, both great options, we enjoyed them a lot. We value very much; the quality of service Viking has. Although we did many other cruises with other companies, this last one was overall the best ever. Thanks Viking crew and everyone on the ship for a great experience and a phenomenal vacation. To the Cruise Reviewers…Here’s a Breaking News story….The American Steamboat Company’s American Queen is NOT A CARIBBEAN CRUISE FUN SHIP…..That’s the rewarding thing about this wonderful Steamboat…..So don’t disparage this ‘Gem of the Mississippi ‘where you can slow down and take a leisurely cruise on America’s Premiere and Historical River. My wife and I booked the American Queen Steamboat cruise up the Mississippi for the first full week of September 2019 sailing from New Orleans up to Memphis. We’ve been fortunate to have cruised on ships of many sizes and many locations and have even cruised down the Danube River several years earlier but this time we were seeking a trip back through time and history on an authentic Steamboat that still travels the waters of the Mississippi here in the United States. The American Queen is a ship that fits the profile of a slower paced travel and the Mississippi presents a good travelogue of stories about ‘The Old Man River” and adventures in the deep south of the United States. This is not a trip for families with children but a trip for adults of many ages. Ship Features Built in 1995, The American Queen is the largest Steamboat ever constructed at 418 feet long and 89 feet wide with a draft of approximately 8 feet. She’s a true stern-wheeler with and array of modern improvements for navigation on the Mississippi. The beauty of steamboat travel is the slower pace of cruising on a river and how the passengers arrive at the towns on the cruise’s itinerary on the gangways stowed at the front of the steamboat. There’s a wonder steam calliope at the Top Deck River Grill & Bar played by the ship’s Master Pianist and Calliopist Phil Westbrook who hold court nightly at the Main Deck lounge with music and stories to entertain all. There’s a small pool on the top Sun Deck where travelers can also access the small Fitness Center. For late night, guest’s can be entertained at the Engine Room Bar with lively music and dancing, if one desires , lead by two of the ship’s versatile entertainment staff, Norman Bergen and Jim Schweikert. The main guest entertainment is held at the Grand Saloon Theater space, complete with balcony box seats and vaudeville styled main stage. There is also a smaller movie style theater on the Deck 3 – Texas Deck. With that said the ships company of performers and musicians all well versed in their art and provided great entertainment nightly. The Cruise Director, Ryan Faino and his Assistant Cruise Director, Ashley Edwards along with fellow performers Michaelyn Oby and Glenn Springs made evening entertainment a real pleasure for such a small troupe of performers and their equally talented band know as the Steamboat Syncopators. The J. M. White Dining area is a wonderful old world steamboat styled double story dining venue. There is one drawback experience in the dining room which is the ventilation noise that emanates from below deck and at window level due to the ship’s ventilation system on the port side forward of the dining, room. Our dining seating was on the opposite side of the dining room so our dining experience was not impacted by that noticeable mechanical noise. The Buffet dining area known as the Front Porch Café, is located on Deck 3 forward – Texas Deck with dining for guests inside and in a wrap around deck outside this eatery The real masterpieces of the Queen can be found on Deck 2 – Cabin Deck where guests find the Mark Twain Gallery & Lounge along with Men’s and Ladies Parlor Rooms. These spaces or well decorated with period pieces, artwork, photographs, river and steamboat artifact, charts and models an internet café area and a specialty coffee machine with a well stock fresh cookie cabinet. A more unique space in the ship is the areas above the Front Porch Café in a space know as The Chart Room, where Riverlorian, Jerry Hay, weaves the tales of the river and its historic ebb and flow that are an integral part of the heartland of America. Lastly, take some time to walk around all the decks of the ship to a catch a bit of the flavor of what river travel life might have been on some grand stern-wheeler of the 19th Century, like the American Queen, on the muddy water of the Mississippi. Food and Excursions Our food & dining experience on board the American Queen was wonderful. High tech has made its way into dining service in the J. M. White Dining Room with wait staff texting orders to the kitchen for prompt preparation and delivery to the dining guests. The food quality was very good, but don’t hesitate to bring to the attention of the dining room staff anything that is not up to what you, as the diner, might consider substandard. Service was tops and food was well prepared. Food up at the Front Porch Café buffet was also of the same quality and caliber except here’s where self serve ice cream could be found along with a full service bar and guest beverages area. Although the lower Mississippi river does not possess the charm of the enchanting river towns of the European river waterways, you will find the Antebellum South and Historic river towns of Natchez and Vicksburg on this cruise. Vicksburg battlefield is a must trek. The Steamboat Company provides well apportioned coaches that run like clockwork for travel around each the river towns where the ship stops. With regards to the other river town stops on this cruise (St. Francisville and Greenville) they are a look into typical river town life that that have survived the trials and tribulations of the Mighty Mississippi River. Conclusion The American Queen Steamboat cruise may not be a cruise for every traveler but this great ship and cruise does give its guests plenty of river time to slow down and unwind on this Great American River treasure or to pick up the pace to explore the finer elements of Southern Living. We have planned this cruise for some time and picked this itinerary long ago. The ship was adequate, the service good and the staff was friendly. We had the most concerns regarding the food. As it turned out we did frequent the buffet several times and the food there was average at best. We did try a few of the specialty restaurants and they did not live up to expectations. In fact I experienced food poisoning after dining at one of them and it kept me up most of the night. Fortunately I was the only one in our party that got sick and it did not ruin our enjoyment of the next port. We will likely choose another cruise line the next time, willing to pay a little more for a better experience. We did pay more for a mini-suite but not sure if it was worth it. Liked the balcony but I was expecting a little bigger room for the cost. I thought it was more crowded than I expected especially after we learned that the ship was not even at capacity. Overall I rated it average with most of my concerns involving the sub-par dining experience. Read Less

I choose this cruise based on some prior reviews. I had sailed carnival previously and had a great time before, but I was very disappointed on this cruise. The worst part was my balcony cabin, and the food choices. The entertainment was also pretty bad, especially when you have a Motown review that features no black people. Found this to be very strange and in poor taste. The cast performing appeared to be very new at performing, and the show was not very good. The ship did not offer the usual karaoke, but instead had a lip sync battle using the passengers entire cruise to rehearse and entertain the passengers. The ships decor was hideous, and it appeared to be inspired by someone on drugs. Grapevines lined the ceilings, and artwork that look like it should be in a horror movie. My balcony was full of dirt, and rust, and the chairs were spattered with paint. The entire experience wasn't the worse, but it left much room for improvement. The Frankstein disco has a split level, and I just wasn't feeling the music or atmosphere. The crew seemed to be in training, and spent most of their time socializing with each other rather that seeing to the customers. My room steward got upset because we want fresh towels and the cabin made which should have been automatic. All in all, I probably would not recommend this ship. I am hoping this was an isolated situation and not the new norm for carnival. Read Less

I've been on the Carnival Magic three times since Nov 2018 and have enjoyed each sailing. There are several main reasons, first being the staff is so friendly. Especially my bar service who help me drink my losses away in the casino - Kat and . Also, ask for I Kadek or Joseph in the main dining room for open-seating, they will take good care of you. Can't forget about Lito our room steward who made the towel animal zoo you see in the pic. Secondly, the common areas are massive so you are never overcrowded, including the comedy lounge, which is usually not the case on most ships. The food has always been top-level, and I enjoy food options on deck 5 away from the lido marketplace. Nice call on whomever made that decision. Third, no children allowed in the spa - yeah! Good call but I booked spa cabin 2 of 3 sailings, but 3rd cruise upgraded to suite since three of us were sharing a cabin. Suites should be allowed access, or at minimum a discounted rate. The only complaint I have is the casino has only given me one good payout and so I'm way in the deficit....ALOT (I'll own that - lol). Read Less

We had a great time on our trip, our restaurant was Marco Polo and the service is excellent, our waiter was Armawan I Gede Agus (with 10 in service) from Indonesia. In Costa Maya we went on an excursion to the Bacalar lagoon and it was fantastic, I recommend this excursion to everyone. The cruise crew is excellent and we loved that this cruise line is quite long in all the ports where it stops and so it gives us the possibility to know and enjoy each city we go to enough. We really liked the shows that we were given on the cruise every night, they have an excellent group of artists and we loved the night where they presented us with several staff members with different talents that have nothing to do with their usual tasks on the cruise, that it's excellent. Over 20 cruises with Carnival. Each one an experience. Although this ship is a little old now,she is still a fun ship. Great staff on this ship makes the voyage lots f of fun and entertaining. Cam,the cruise director is definitely one of the best. He really puts his all into everything he does. One of if not the best singing/dance teams we have seen. Ardestra Gardens in Nassau was beautiful. Small garden with marching flamingos! About $18 for ticket and a $20 taxi ride there. Definitely worth a visit, highly recommend. Half moon cay was beautiful as usual, watch out for jellyfish! Otherwise beautiful sandy beach with lots of room for fun and relaxation. Looking for jewelry? Check out Effy on ship, Marianne or Alexandra are 2 ladies who know their stuff. They also give away lots of cool stuff. Guys burgers are always a hit, and they have improved their desserts in the lido restaurant. Had ocean view room, which was comfortable and plenty of storage space for 2. There was worn spot in shower floor which was repainted during cruise while we were out and about. I also recommend that when looking at reviews to take more notice of this who have done more than one review. These folks have cruised often and know what to expect. Just saying! Read Less

I chose the cruise because of the itinerary, which was very good. The food was horrible. I mean, the specialty restaurants were good, but you should not have to pay more to get a decent meal. In O'Sheenans, they can't make a good hot dog, a hot dog, not joking. The bar staff was good, Emerson and Danno espeically, Also, KK was very nice. The ship was okay, simlar to others. I thought the sailing crew did a good job and the maintenance on the boat was definitly up to snuff. It was clean and they were always painting something. Other than the food, the reservations people are just incompetent. Sorry, no other way to say it. They got our reservations wrong so many times I lost count. And yes, after weeks of problems a supervisor did try to make it up to us by giving us a ship credit, which was appreciated, but the problems continued. Also, it took 60 or so phone calls, inumerable emails and a dozen hours of my time to get it fixed....so, what they gave me was appreciagted, but it was not a fair exchange for what they put me through. The bottom line is the Norewegian staff doesn't know their own rules and if you rely on what they say, you will be punishied. I know I was and in the end, they admitted they were wrong but just couldn't do anything more to help. They seemed frustrated by their own incompetence and just could not wait for my trip to be over. Food and customer service (reservations staff primarily) was very bad, but other than that I guess it was an average cruise performance. I spent a lot of money for a lot of frustration; won't do it again, not on the Pearl and likley not ever with Norwegian again. Read Less

With the help of a travel agent we discovered the Princess British isles cruise for Sept,2019 on the Pacific Princess. The 650 guest ship was perfect. Big enough to offer great resources, small enough to be easily accessible. We were fortunate to have terrific weather and smooth seas even over the Orkneys atop Scotland Princess gave a reasonable a la Carte rate, even tho there were continual extra costs. Many such as over priced tours, drinks on board and internet to name three were avoidable. The staff were terrific exhibiting a sincere and customer focused attitude. The entertainment was way above what we expected from other reviews. We ( and other reviewers ) can often be critical, so this is a true compliment. Irish and scotch shows were great. Nick Page of London’s Le Mis fame was an incredible final show. The ship band and dancers were also terrific as was the comedian, magician and other solo artists. We had 13 stops in 15 days all of which were negotiated by a safety conscious crew. One downside was occasional inconvenient access to city centers for those not on a Princess tours especially Edinburg. However there were easily accessible local tours, hop on off busses,(Dublin) local trains (Holyhead) and interesting walks (Edinburg) among others. We took three Princess tours to Lands end in Cornwall, to the standing stones in the Orkney’s and the bus thru London which were well guided tho overpriced. Food was plentiful, well prepared and efficiently and sweetly served in the buffet and regular dining room. We tried one dinner in one of the two special cover charged Dining rooms which while ok was not worth the extra cost. The exercise room was comparable to a Planet fitness gym. We avoided the costly spa and other similar services My T-Mobile phone gave me free and good internet access near and ashore vs the costly Princess plans. We ignored the small casino, and jewelry store as did most it seemed. we travelled with our adult son and spouse which was fun. A sept cruise avoided lots of annoying kids! In summary it was a terrific first cruise, great itinerary, super staff and smartly negotiated by us to be reasonably priced. The great weather made it a total success We chose a lower level cabin which was comfortable, nicely furnished and very stable. I’d do that again vs the overpriced higher levels. We used it largely to sleep in the very comfortable bed and consume some liquors purchased in cities. We purchased our own air travel at a discount and avoided the over priced Princess pre tour hotels. Read Less

You would think that a ship updated solely for the Japan market would do Japanese-related things (restaurants, food and menu, ports of call) well. No such luck. Everything was poorly done - even the extra charge sushi restaurant was artificial. Very disappointing. Also, we were shocked to see that there were very long lines to get into the buffet (Horizon Court). The pool side grill didn’t have or serve hot dogs or “pies” (the UK snack). The cruise itinerary was changed because of a typhoon - we skipped Ishinomaki. The stop in Busan, South Korea was not necessary. An extra day in Kyoto would have been nice - there was so much to do and see. Finally, the pre-cruise hotel in Tokyo, although a lovely hotel, was in the middle of nowhere. The Princess rep was useless and even the hotel Concierge could not suggest any sightseeing tours that we could take for a day. The key word is disappointing. All of that said, our on-board experience was fine. There were any number of onboard activities, and the port lecturer did a great job of preparing us for the different ports of call. The themed Japanese baths were a great addition, and were integrated into the rear deck pool, sauna and sun deck. The three dining rooms we visited have been updated; the furniture is modern and comfortable. We remain impressed with the level of customer service on-board. The Carnival acquisition has not been good for Princess passengers, but this critical aspect remains outstanding. Read Less

The ship is nice and new. I do like the new ship design but I do not think that it is worth the extra dollars to take the Edge. The staff is nice. Our ports were rerouted due to weather. The rerouting of the ports caused chaos for the shore excursions staff. We had 3 Discovery Collection/Exclusive shore excursions, but were only able to take the one in Athens (which was very nice). The others were cancelled due to port rerrouting. For us the excursions are the highlight of the cruise. This is our 10th cruise overall and our 4th on Celebrity. The Santorini excursions were a hot chocolate mess in a flaming dumpster. Due to us being one of the last cruise ships in port many excursions were cancelled and others were very very negative experiences. I recommended the firing of our tour guide and the bus driver. Celebrity tried to make it up to us so I give them 2 stars instead of one. Celebrity also tried to save the excursions for its suite guests in Santorini. In Santorini shore excursions issued free cable car tickets to the many people who had their excursions cancelled. As a result the cable car lines were two hours long and as a result people were walking through the donkey poop. The shows were average in talent level and content, although the layout of the theater was better than the other Celebrity ships. We spent several hours on the magic carpet for a glass of wine. It is very windy out there while the ship is moving. It is convenient for tenders. The Fine Cut and Eden restaurants were very good. The Fine Cut restaurant was difficult to book on sea days. Eden had a menu that was good for our unique dietary requirements. La Petit had a nice projection show, but I preferred the menu choices of previous ships of steak or lobster. The menu choices in La Petit were not as good. The spa was also very nice but crowded on sea days. The embarkation process is very smooth. In fact embark/debark were the smoothest that I have seen to date. The silent disco was very good. I wish that the other cruise lines would adopt the concept. The photographers were very average. On some other lines the photographers take longer to get the perfect picture. Celebrity cruises used to be my favorite line, however the shore excursion debacle on this cruise has knocked their ratings down a notch or two in my eyes. Read Less

I want to start this out by saying the ship is gorgeous and the staff is incredible. I appreciate everything Celebrity tried to do with this ship. To me, the ship lost some of it's charm though. The reason my wife and I chose this cruise was partly due to it's itinerary, but mostly because we were on the Celebrity Soltice and were smitten hearing about this new amazing ship. The solstice, although an older ship, had some features that we really liked. We had access to the front and back of the ship for better views, everything was accessible, and the balcony outside the room was nice. The "infinite veranda" was kind of weird on the Edge, the window that goes up and down makes and awful screeching sound, and we didn't really use it. Also, everything was spread out on the Edge, and only the very exclusive top-end customers got access to the front of the ship. Also, everything that wasn't included (The spa, spin classes, drinks above the classic drink package) were almost double the price of the Solstice ship. The reason I gave it 4 stars was due to the incredible staff and the fact we were sailing around Europe. The intinerary was awesome, and the captain did a great job due to having to cancel 2 ports (bad weather) and finding us 2 different ports so we didn't have to just spend it out at sea. Read Less

I liked the itinerary of this cruise and it did prove to be wonderful. However, our experience on board was less then stellar! Service was downright bad! Everyone already has their tips so why bother giving us a great experience. Nobody on this ship is putting in any effort. Restaurants in particular had horrible food and horrible service! I did not have a hot meal in 11 days. It came to the point it was not worth going to dinning room and waiting for the inferior service and food. When a buffet is better then your dinning room.... you have a problem! Want room service? Sure.... pay for it! You want to go to specialty restaurants? Sure, going to cost you prices on the menu or a 40.00 up charge ( these restaurants were not much better and service was terrible! We did not even get luggage tags in cabin... had to go get them. The tours are like hurdling cattle. And some where nothing but a bus ride at 100 a person. Just a bad cruise experience. I have been a latitudes member for years but will never travel NCL again. We have sailed with Celebrity on numerous occasions over all classes of ships and wished to try The Edge. We are in our late 50s/60s and we were joined by my husband’s daughter and her husband in their 40s. Embarking the ship at Civitavecchia was very easy. Bags in, up the escalators, through security and staff with iPads to check you in standing in the main hall. Our daughter was able to change her credit card at the desk and we were off. As for the cabin, we were not in all honesty sure we were going to like the IV arrangement. We like a balcony. However, on this cruise, we loved it! We had extra space in the room, the privacy was good with no chance of faces around the screen. We slept with the blind part way down and with the bed near the balcony woke to lovely views. We could bring down the window as much as required to have fresh air and sun on our bed if facing the right way. Our stateroom attendant Joanna was excellent and very friendly. Dining. We loved the different restaurants on select dining. We booked them in advance and had no wait whatsoever. If we wanted to cancel, we did this on the App which we had pre loaded. The food and service was superb. Oceanview. Absolutely lovely. The food excellent and friendly staff. Martini bar. The staff great, especially Jonis. We are however lovers of the old set up with the ice bar. It was difficult to get a seat - anywhere. It was really the Passport bar, martini bar and crush in one. It is dramatic and the setting lovely, but our preference is the Solstice class. The pool was fabulous and very spacious. There is not much shade for those who want it however. The cabanas did not appeal to us at all. The carpet was lovely as tender aid, but I could not see the point of it as it was cold when at sea. Aesthetically it looked unpleasing! Subjective however. The cruise and ports were fabulous. Bad weather tested the Captain and her staff. They went above and beyond to deliver the cruise and the ports. Very well done - you all did great! Eden is a lovely space for a pre dinner drink. We did not eat there however. We did watch the show one night - it is ‘different’! We found this cruise to have a great many younger passengers. As a family everything worked well for us on our chosen entertainment. We do like a bit of a party scene and this is all worked well. We would happily return for another cruise. Read Less

With a Typhoon to deal with which made the transfer to the ship difficult, a missed first port due to logistical issues we still will say that this cruise became one of the best we have ever experienced! The captain and the crew pulled out all stops to make it so. Their friendly visibility, extra cocktail party put on by the captain went a long way to creating an enjoyable atmosphere, thank you Captain Arma. Our dining experience was perfect and we dined at sabatini and the Japanese restaurant and both were very impressive in service and quality of food almost to a level of very fine dining category, the cocktail party was fun and very enjoyable we have been to many of these parties but this one was special and the captain and his executive officers made the difference Chris and Trent were very friendly and courteous, thanks for your wonderful company. Very nice ship. Service and food at restaurants below average. Full wine list was not available from day one. Ripped-off having to pay 18% service fee on all drinks etc. Cost of shuttle bus expensive. A number of crew members trying to gouge money by inviting to attend paid activities etc. Due to the late arrival of the ship there was total chaos and incompetency by staff at embarkation. Very little or no information as to why it was taking so long to embark while passengers were sweating under 35 degree temperatures in the waiting lounge without air-conditioning. Although it was no fault of the staff for the late arrival, staff were absolutely hopeless in organisation embarkation. Only received notification of the late arrival of the ship 2 hours before we were due to embarkation. Many passengers were complaining about the poor quality of food in restaurants and the 18% service fee. Read Less
