Wow. Horrible. Bad food, bad service as a simple summary. Lots of whales sighted though (both at sea and at the buffet). Comically bad waiters sticking our menus into our food. Several meals in the dining room were not really edible so had to chase that meal with a visit to the buffet in the hopes of something better than “hot dog pineapple salad”. (No, I didn’t make that up). The on-board naturalist also stated (amongst many other oddities) that Canada doesn’t have any glaciers. That was said while we were actually looking at a glacier in Canada. The beds were very saggy due to the many “girthy” guests that preceded us. The mini putt and kids’ centres were closed each of the 5+ times we tried to go into them. The list goes on but I’m out of room. Scenery was great but with 5 cruise ships in port simultaneously the small towns were overrun and it was horrible on shore. Won’t be back. Read Less

I got off the Norwegian Sun today after a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas with my mom. Are you ready for this tale? After boarding on the first day, nothing was open and the rooms weren't ready. When we went to the room, we were given a single bed even though we booked a double beds. We feared my mother's luggage was lost, since it was several hours without it at the room. I spoke with another guest who said that his luggage was put on the wrong ship. We tried to call our room attendant "Brianna", but the number was a busy signal. We called Guest Services, but the number was also busy. The luggage finally arrived around 9 PM while we were eating what tasted like frozen food or bad airplane food in the main dining hall. We then met our real room attendant who explained that the number didn't work because "she went home today on vacation." Not sure why they couldn't replace the card with the correct attendant's name and number? Shortly after eating/drinking on the ship, we would get horrible cramps. We did not know the cause until after looking up the symptoms on the internet today (the cruise charged $35 per device each day for WiFi) that we had contracted THE NOROVIRUS! Why did we contract the Norovirus? "Washy Washy" was not everywhere on the ship and we watched the workers clean the tables without gloves and without disinfectant. The ship was dirty and we saw crumbs on the floor and on the tables everywhere. The tables were cleaned with wet rags and food everywhere was not bussed. So much so, that seagulls would have feasts on the deck outside on the questionable food no one seemed to enjoy. Comfortable sleep did not happen because we didn't have working AC the entire trip. We called maintenance the first night to fix the AC, but there still was no cold air circulating in our room. We would feel cold air while passing other guests' rooms and in other parts of the ship. The repair man explained that the coldest our room was allowed to get is 73 degrees and the ship utilizes "chilled recycled ocean water." However, 73 degrees would have been tolerable unlike the 80 degree room that we had. We were sweating laying on top of the covers every night tossing and turning. Everytime we reached out to Guest Services, a person who could not understand English very well would get confused and tell us everything was fine. To make matters worse, our toliet would not flush and the sink constantly made a loud gurgling sound. The toliet was fixed a total of 4 times and the AC was "fixed" about the same amount if not more. The bathroom smelled of rank sewage, so we had to constantly spray hair spray in there to not gag every time we had to enter. The shower was also repaired twice, since only scalding hot water came out. We spoke with 4 other guests that claimed their room FLOODED! The toliet and shower eventually worked on the last day of the trip, but the AC never worked. We are leaving the trip completely exausted (and sick). The entertainment on the ship was beyond cheesy and usually involved the ship begging for more money. The ship's shops were desperate money grabs, much like the $5.50 bottle of Aquafina placed in our room to "tempt" us. The food was subpar and every meal oredered was taking a chance. During one dinner, I ordered French Onion soup because I thought how can you mess that up? Much to my suprise, that was bad too. The soup tasted like only beef stock and had no flavors of onion, salt, or bouillon. The ship also kept trying to pass off certain foods as gourmet. For example, one appetizer on the menu was "cream cheese and crab stuffed wonton with a sweet chilli sauce". Isn't that called, "crab rangoon"? We noticed a lot of interesting menu items that we believed to be recycled leftovers from other meals like adding bacon to sauerkraut. We picked snorkeling/beach day for our excursion in Freeport, Bahamas which came be to around $150. When we arrived to get on the bus for the excursion, we were informed that the snorkeling was canceled due to weather. The ship did not inform us earlier of this and instead loaded up a tour bus full of guests whom we suspect were charged the full amount for a 15 minute shuttle to the beach. Instead, we went back to the ship and asked for a refund. We then caught a taxi which only came to $14 for both of us. The White Party/Glow Party was held from 10:30 PM-12:00 AM the night before a port of call was 7 AM. The party took place by the pool deck and it was raining. The workers were squeegeeing the deck and the DJ was trying to get the crowd to come out from hiding from the rain. After the rain stopped, the crowd came out to dance and consisted mainly of small children. The DJ played EDM music for a bit, then switched to explicit rap much to the horror of the parents in attendance. They had a twerk contest on the stage and parents were taking their children to leave. A woman with a see through dress and a thong on got in the splits and began dancing like a stripper on the stage for everyone to see, kids and adults alike. There were other people on stage dancing that kept it clean, but she had to be pulled off stage because she was showing her buttcrack/vagina. There looked to be children watching as young as 5-12 years old. The DJ was blasting Cardi B songs and asked the crowd of kids to sing along to the explicitly laced lyrics. I left after that, since I had no interest in twerking around little kids. Small things such as crew members not knowing guests' names, no towel animals, and no drinks being served by the beach chairs were also a disappointment. We cruised with NCL in 2015 and had a fantastic time, so we suspect there must have been a restructuring within management. The cruise reaked of budget cuts and corporate greed. We suspect that the workers were paid very little and we were told that they rarely get to go home to their families in their home countries. Sorry if this was too much to read, but I did not want to spare any of the details. I posted this on NCL's Facebook page, but it was taken down by the moderators (suprise). Read Less

We have been on many many cruises, several cruise lines. This has been far and away the worst cruise ship and cruise we have every taken. VERY SMALL ship little to nothing to do. very ROUGH unsteady ride. Has not been redone. Exterior is rusty and pitted. Balcony is slimy, rusty and unusable. Windows are filthy. Covered in a rusty slimy thick film. Hair, body, cloths stuck to everything out there. The smell of facies and methane gas permeates through stained cabin toilets into the cabins and through the halls. Food in main dining room is terrible portions are small child sized which really doesn’t matter cause you don’t want to eat it anyway. You have to be up on deck by 6:15 AM if you want a deck chair. Ports of call are still devastated. Sad to see - nothing to do -very very sad. The only thing worth doing is the Chef’s Table which was lovely. On last day we were awakened by crew banging on door screaming to get up time to get off the ship. Paperwork said we could stay in room until 8:30 but staff wanted us out at 6:45am. Thank god we were already up and dressed couldn’t wait to get out of the hell hole. Disembarkment complete chaos. Unorganized. Takes quadruple the amount of time as any other ship we have ever been on. Simply put don’t ever go on this ship disgusting! Read Less

The service at dinner was great. And the visit to Magen’s bay was fantastic. Other than that, the weather was quite unpredictable, coco cay was not perfect, all excursions cancelled because of stormy weather, we were able to enjoy part of the day. Be warned that you cannot do lap swim on the ship, the pool is very small, crowded and dirty. Jacuzzi was good. They put the smoking section near the swimming pool. You will smell quite a bit of ship exhaust in the sports area and the aqua theater. The surf rider if you don’t know what you are doing don’t ride the surf, you can get seriously injured. The food was okay, most of it was salty. The breakfast and lunch have little variety, if you have a balcony get it at mid or front section to avoid the exhaust. We did not do the tour on st marten , the beach there are many scammers trying to get you pay fit chair and umbrella. It is not a bad cruise, we had plenty of bad luck, it is definitely one of the worst I had gone, the cabin lock did not work at first Read Less

Our extended family cruises together every other year. This was the first time cruising NCL (we previously did Carnival and RC). We booked travel and transport thru NCL. My aunt is disabled and we also registered her with the Access Desk at NCL. Upon arriving for our transport to the port (at the Miami airport) we were informed that they did not have handicapped transport for my aunt. We called the Access Desk (they were closed on Sunday). The NCL workers at the airport informed us that they did have access equipped vans. They had us carry my 80 year old aunt up the narrow stairs of the regular bus. Upon arriving at the terminal we were told that we had to carry her from the bus location to the terminal-it was a bit of a walk. We refused and thankfully had an understanding onsite manager who made an exception and brought a wheelchair from the terminal to the bus. We did not bring my aunt's chair since it does not comply with NCL guidelines (which is normal-we have rented scooters on some of our other cruises). However, the rental chair that we received did not work-and we had to argue with guest services that it didn't (was actually asked if we knew how to use the chair) They finally sent a tech, who discovered/agreed that it didn't work. He found a replacement-but it wasn't the type we had paid for. The ship is nicely appointed and the family room I was in was the most spacious that I have been in. I especially loved the larger bathroom (a must for young children). In general, the dining is the best of any cruiseline. Lots of options and the staff is generally thoughtful. BOOK OCEAN BLUE. If you go, book this restaurant as soon as you are able-the slots went first. It was amazing-went with my husband and our baby (DD was is kids club). Staff here was the BEST of the ship. We booked Cagneys for our group of 12. Food was good-staff was overwhelmed. Had to request multiple times for water and they forgot appetizers for some of our party. We also booked Teppanyaki-if you have children this is a must. Most entertaining staff and food was good. We visited every included restaurant-food was really good. Make sure to do one night at the Manhattan-they include a show and it was amazing. My 8 year loves the apple pie at OSheehans as well. And the staff at SAVOR adored my 1 year old. Entertainment was okay-but not as good as RCL. Activities were okay-best one was the escape room (sign up early). My daughter said the kids club was the best one of any cruiseline. Our room porter (Ariel) was the best. Lost and found was easy to navigate. Gym was much smaller than we have experienced on other lines. The ropes course and zipline were fun-my 8 year old adored it. My 1 year could not get in the pool (even with a cover or swim diaper). For a ship of its size, the lack of pools is shocking. Both times that we tried to do the water slide-it was closed (but it looked fun). Ports-Honduras did an encounter at the monkey sanctuary and beach. Fun. The beach was clean and kid friendly. Animals (monkeys and sloths) were a welcome surprise of fun. Belize-its a private beach which is fun. Lighthouse was closed when we came-bummer since that is what my daughter most wanted to see. Ferry to the mainland is $25 roundtrip. Costa Maya we booked the Mayan Ruins. It was a lot of fun and both of my kids enjoyed it (bring something to entertain them for the 45 min bus trip each way). In Cozumel we booked a horse buggy tour off ship ($60) which was fun. Please note: NCL does not have a separate disembarkation line for access needed guests. Lastly, the day before we departed I went to Guest Services to make sure my aunt's departure would be seamless. Most of our travel group was flying out of Fort Lauderdale while my aunt and cousin were flying out of Miami. We were also leaving earlier than they were. I wanted to ensure that the issues that plagued our arrival would not happen for disembarkation (especially since the bulk of us wouldn't be there to help carry her). The staff verified for 30 minutes and assured us that everything would be okay. On our disembarkation day-while waiting at the airport-we got a frantic call from my aunt that the same issues were plaguing her. She had to complain and get management involved. I would only go on this cruiseline again if it was my family only. If you have an access needed traveling companion please look elsewhere. Read Less

Great destinations and most staff. However the ship is a disaster. They spent millions extending the ship when really they should have towed it to the middle of the Atlantic and used it as target practice.... The stairs and lifts are not logical. Some go all the way some stop a floor before you want and others stop before one before you want to get to.all If you have a window or an inside cabin don’t bother trying to sleep before well after midnight because the noise from discos and bars will definitely keep you awake. Even with the best possible earplugs I can STILL SING ALONG WITH THE MUSIC!! Guest relations offered me €100! So kind.... If I could get a flight home I would. If you have booked change it. If you are thinking about it DONT!! Go on something, anything else. I have done 17 cruises and this is the absolute WORST!! The entertainment crew were certainly enthusiastic. If a little loud, and mostly in Italian..... Dining is fine. Service in the MDR was excellent. The food was ok, portion size was small. One carrot does about three tables, the Buffet was a nightmare!! Pushing, shoving and loud. Forget if you want a table. The coffee was awful too. Thankfully the destinations was fantastic. Mykonos was lovely, Santorini was a bunfight. But the highlight was Corfu town. Lovely and lovely people. A couple of places were tender. A queue was ages but they dealt with it ok and they did use larger tender ships to get us off. A good idea that other cruise companies should adopt. All in all great destinations but a old tug and appalling ship and terrible terrible customer service. My view is the same AVOID even if it was free!! Read Less

The boat was overcrowded and not enough staff to attend to everyone. Since gratuities were suppose to be paid all upfront they did not have to work hard to get people there food or drinks, I waited 20-30 min for drinks and at dinner took 2hrs. at least. But then once you are on the boat they hit you with a 15$per person per day charge for someone to make up your room. If you want decent food you have to go to the specialty restaurant and pay for it. The adult pool was so small and way overcrowded. They had another adult pool but it had limited spots and fee was 210 per person for the week. The Spa was a nice facility. So one would think that after you pay for an overpriced massage you can use the rest of the amenities there but No that's an extra fee too. So be wary when you think you have an all inclusive they are so many hidden fees. Also the shows sucked, Royal Caribbean is such a better cruise line. Read Less

2nd rate cruise line! Beyond terrible customer service (sent 4 emails with no response and several calls with no answer including a 54 minute call which I have a screenshot of); stained sheets on the cruise (I have a pic); 2 of our 3 excursions were horrible; hard beds; teenagers allowed in the adult only pool area but not kids; kids pool hours limited; 90% of the food on the windjammer deck was the same day in and day out; lack of smiles; little direction causing mass confusion when disembarking. Despite several attempts to be nice and work things out with RC, they would rather have a upset customer rather than attempt to repair the damage and win back their customer. Best way I can say it is once they have your money, good luck. A once in a lifetime trip to Greece was ruined by the inability of the staff and the company to be able to empathize and properly take care of their guests! Because they do not even want to attempt to win me back as a customer, I will never recommend them! Read Less

We chose this cruise as a family cruise with my brother's family and my Father so there was 11 of us on the cruise. We have never Cruised the British Isles and thought this would be a great experience for the family. We have cruised with Carnival, Princess and Royal Caribbean in the past multiple times. This was our First Norwegian Cruise and will be our last. We have never been on a cruise where the family didn't want to go the dinning room. We ate in the Window's dinning room and the food and service were not up to standards. Many times we had to ask for water glasses to be filled and then when they went around and the pitcher got empty the never came back to fill the rest of the glasses until we asked them again. This happened multiple nights. The food wasn't up to the standards of the other cruises and half of the family most nights ended up not finding anything they liked on the menu and when up to the buffet or the Blue lagoon to eat. The Entertainment of ship was ok. The singers and dancers were excellent, but the Magician was better suited for small children. My 11 year old was not impressed and all of his tricks were just hidden box tricks. And unfortunately since the Magician is so intricate to the elements show it was as my kids say "cringey". The cruise staff was ok but the cruise director was not very engaging on all the other ships usually the cruise director comes out after the shows and explains what is happening the next day and is very outgoing, this cruise director was not. The Tender process was horrible and unorganized good thing they only tender twice, but one of the Tender's we are only in port for 4 hours and by the time they were done with excursions tendering off the boat people only had 2 hrs in port. When you get off the boat many of the Docks you dock at are working docks so transportation is required to get off the Dock. Usually they have 2 types of buses one that you pay to get to "city Center" which is usually 10-15 dollars or one that is free that just takes you through the dock. The free ones would work if they actually would take you out of the port. The one in Dublin doesn't even get you out of port or to a decent drop of place. Once they drop you off it is about a mile to 2 miles to get to the bus or Tram area. Overall the was a major disappointment for the family and we will not be going on a Norwegian again. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of my quite good experience with the Norwegian cruise line and because of iternerary (20th of July-3rd of August, Great Britain and Ireland). What was good? I give a high mark for the food and cabin service. What was really bad? 1. Safety drill was provide at the deck where the passengers could not hear or see anything. It was just a formally done, but it would cost lives in a case of a disaster. It was especially important for this very old ship. 2. No supervision from the top crew members. That is why the deck service, sanitary service (toilets, spraying sanitizer at the entrance to the dinning facilities, etc.), were disgusting. 90 % of stuff members (deck workers, waiters, bartenders, etc) spent their time speaking to each other or being busy with their cell phones. They did not pay attention to the passengers' needs. They looked at us with clear expression: "How did you dare to ask for this?", or "What else? We are busy!". They allowed to speak rude with passengers or neglect them. They were always looked sleepy and lazy. The public toilets and sauna were really filthy almost all the time. There were exceptions, of course (about 10 % of waiters, deck workers, etc did their work very good). The top managers and officers did not supervise and did not care of all that was going on. To get back our passports we had to wait in lane 40 minutes! We did not even know who was our cruise director, because almost no intertainment was there. Disastrous cruise in spite of very interesting ports we could visit. Read Less

The food was bad, the waiter was good but there seemed to be no excitement from the staff. The freestyle meals are cold and not friendly. The smoke on the ship from the casino was horrible. You could smell it 2 floors down in the dining area. The staff on the ship were not educated on events and where to go many times we asked. We have cruises many times and this was probably the most disappointing cruise we have ever been on. Our cabin was nice and we enjoyed having a balcony but when we tried to sit out there the people in cabin 8051 were smoking. We were not told this ship allowed smoking or we would not have scheduled a cruise in this ship. The staff when we got off the ship in customs were very rude to everyone getting off of the ship. No one told me it would be impossible to change large Euro notes. Guest services warns against taking large notes on tour excursions yet refused to change my 200 Euro note so I could have smaller notes. The person at guest services went to plead my case to the purser. The purser opened the door, looked at me from the doorway, then went back in and the guest services person returned to say the purser had refused my request. I saw they had plenty of change, so this was unreasonable. They did say I could buy Eu200 on my credit card for 3% commission. The next concern I had was with the service charge which now appears daily on our account. No one told me it would cost US14.50 per day, per person. I have always left what I thought was a generous tip to those that gave me exceptional service but have never been forced to tip. For a family of 4, this means you need to budget US580 for tips. This has resulted in the crew not needing to try so hard with their service. For example, I drink tea instead of coffee. Every other cruise, staff have recognised me and automatically remembered this, but not on this cruise. In fact they even tried to keep topping me up with coffee. We tried to book The Dining room several times and the only time available was 5.45pm. Much too early. We tried to walk up and were told nothing was available. On our second last day another passenger said that if we walked up and said we were willing to share a table, they would give us a pager and we could wait in a bar. This should have been communicated to us on at least one of the occasions we tried to book. But when they are assured of a ‘tip’ their service standard drops. Also we did not make use of all of the facilities, so why should our service charge go to those areas when we wouldn’t normally tip them. And why do they put an additional 15% service charge on drinks and coffee? We also had a problem with IT where it could not properly print one of our stateroom cards. This was going to prevent us leaving the boat as the name would not print on the card due to its length. Three times we had to go to customer service and explain our situation all over again, despite them saying they would bring a new card to our room. They kept forgetting about us. The poor customer service really impacted on my holiday. Also I travelled with my sister and they gave us a double bed when we had asked for a twin. I asked for bottles of water on arrival and had to wait until the following day for it to arrive. Then we had a $37.50 beverage charge appear on our account by mistake. This was removed. We took a four meal dining package and the steaks in Pinnacle were nice but not as tender as the wagyu in Chops on the Ovation, but we would have had to pay a surcharge for that. Also included in the meal package was sushi but it didn’t compare to the 5 star sushi on the Ovation, where the soft shell sushi was amazing. The one on the Koningsdam was mostly rice and no shell that I could see. I was told they brought the crab in from another restaurant so it was not cooked by the sushi chef. The barramundi in red curry sauce that I ate in Tamarind was delicious. We returned to Tamarind on the last night to have rijstafel which cost US$30. I saw the menu which had about ten dishes on it and looked very traditional. After soup and salad starter, the other eight dishes were served together on one plate. Not very traditional and not the ‘rijstafel experience’ we expected. To top it off after this meal, I needed the toilet. The cleaner followed soon after and wouldn’t leave until she had serviced my toilet. She banged on the door three times in two minutes, despite me acknowledging her. The Planet earth show with an orchestra playing background music was excellent but too short (40mins). The rest of the entertainment was average. The free movies available in our cabin were recent and plentiful. The food in the complimentary areas was excellent although the msg used in the Asian Fusion area disturbed my sleep. We loved The Grand Dutch Cafe and returned several times for their coffee and croquettes. The shore tours are expensive but very good. We had a nice holiday but it will have to be a very good sale price to get us to try Holland America again. Read Less

We went with our daughter and her family on this Alaska cruise. Alaska was wonderful, Royal Caribbean was terrible. We have traveled on many cruises, but this was our first Royal Caribbean cruise (and Last). Royal Caribbean does their remodeling during their active cruise trips. Shocking! The carpet in our hall was torn out and replaced with new carpet. The carpet and the glue smell was so toxic our family got very sick. I had a head ache, sore throat and my eyes were burning, for the last two days of our trip. Our daughter was on this trip, in a separate room, she is a type 1 diabetic. Her immune system is already challenged, adding the toxic chemicals made her very sick. She couldn't even get out of bed. Our little grand daughter ended up in the emergency room after we got off the boat. The staff were non attentive. After the trip, numerous calls to Royal Caribbean were not answered. Put on hold and then disconnected after 30 minutes holding, this happened 3 times. I finally got thru, and was supposed to get a call back, big surprise, no call back. We were in a suite and the attention was terrible. No bottled drinking water was available even at our $1,000 per night price. I am surprised this cruise gets any positive feedback, I'm assuming the people that received free trips are the ones reviewing. Save your money and go on a different cruise line. The dining room was ok, food was edible. Not much to do as far as activities. We had 2 days at sea and would have enjoyed something to do with our grandchildren. I heard the entertainment and thought is was karaoke, but it was main singer. Shore excursions were expensive. I tried to purchase online, but Royal Caribbean site showed excursions sold out. I had to call Royal Caribbean site to book shore excursions and paid 30% high to get the same excursion. I have never submitted a negative review. This cruise line was so bad others need to be warned. I wish we had known before we spent so much hard earned money on this disaster cruise. Read Less

The chicken was so dry the server was so slow and no one would help her table. Watching people order after us and food before ours. The bed was a twin push together and slept terribly. We were told by guests service that it would be taken care of. All they did was add another comforter to the bed which made it hot to sleep. The only thing that was positive about this was the room attendants were trying there best to accommodate us. There were a couple of attendants that stood out our server tried her best her name was Puii and our room attendants was I Ketut he was OUTSTANDING. Read Less

A travel agent suggested this cruise because it met our date and destination needs. We had issues with everything from the WIFI to the key/charge cards constantly. We stayed short periods at the best destinations and long periods at the bad ones. The butler service was terrible compared to what we’ve experienced on other cruises. The fitness and spa facilities were sub-par. The best food was in the included common areas. Fine dining options were not fine. At one point a tour guide abandoned the tour! The pool was often closed without explanation during sail times. Thankfully we had a nice suite to hide in and the countries we visited were amazing. We finally figured out to start doing our own thing at each port. The entire staff seemed bored and overworked. Also communication with NCL was very difficult prior to departure. Very long hold times and they never answer the phone. Read Less

My wife and I decided to take our three kids on a cruise. This was my first cruise and my wife had been on a couple many years ago. Our kids are 7, 10, and 11. I'll work from cruise start to finish so I don't miss anything. We loaded into the ship at NYC port. The load in wasn't bad at all until we reached the buffet on the Lido deck. That is when we realized that we weren't alone on this cruise LOL. There were people everywhere!!! The buffet line was LONG and once you got some food, there were absolutely no seats available unless you stood by a table waiting for a family to get up. Once we finally found a seat after walking around for 5 minutes with 3 young boys, we started to eat and lets just say the food was less than desirable. Thursday night was our first night and I think we made the most of a disgustingly overcrowded ship. Friday morning rolls around and we are greeted with some annoying voice over the PA system waking us up with things to do. Once we we got out of our room, we went to the Lido deck for some lounge and pool action... Sadly, there were absolutely no lounge chairs for us to sit. The boys ran to the teeny, tiny disgusting pool and my wife and I stood around in disbelieve. There are too many people on this cruise ship. When walked to the pool in the rear of the boat, we found that the layout of the pool caused massive bottlenecks. Shirtless people with tons of lotion bumping into me because there is little room to move from the front to back of boat on the Lido deck is not what I envisioned when booking this cruise. When I went to speak with customer care desk, I waited in yet another line only to hear that maybe cruises aren't right for me ..... lol... The woman actually said that its possible that the cruise ship is great and I am just not the "cruise type" LMAO. Saturday was nice in Bermuda. My family and I had a nice day snorkeling and hanging on beach. When we got back on the boat we decided to go to the ropes course and play some basketball with the boys. Sadly, the basketball court was packed with 20 people. The ropes course was great for the kids but the two staff were terrible. The man was talking with some guy right next to my 7 year old son while he waited in line to get a harness. The woman behind was talking to another participant. I told my son to start getting his harness on since nobody was there to help at which time the woman started yelling at my son and I. Do your job and you wouldn't have this issue. When my son was done, he cam down the stairs with 7-8 other people and they got yelled at for coming down the "wrong stairs". She said she had instructed everyone prior to the ropes course and my son didn't listen. Well, seems like everyone didn't listen or you didn't explain properly. Sunday was filled with more of the same nonsense. Lines, bottlenecks, and swimming pools that saw more people than water. The pools were absolutely disgusting. If your kid can't swim, rather than stick them in the pool with a massive life jacket, keep him out of the pool. Must have been 30 kids with giant yellow vests on. lol Monday was a day for exiting the cruise. The buffet was opened and then closed and the dining room closed early as well. We sat with our bags in a shuttered bar on the 5th floor and waited about 2 hours to leave the ship. I could be wrong but it seems like they could have made our last couple hours on the cruise a bit more enjoyable. I am sorry to say but this cruise was not good. Not sure we will ever try another cruise again. Read Less

We chose this cruise for itinerary, and that it was a new ship, and the price is quite low - but it was awful. Overall, I have to say that it take finesse to manage these big ships in a way that make the passengers think they're having a good time through the day and night, even though they are occasionally waiting in lines etc. The big American lines manage these things well as a rule, but MSC was a total mess. No queue systems, so there was a big crowd shoving forward at any opportunity. I'm honestly amazed people weren't physically trampled at times. Everything was a total mess, nothing was explained, and half the staff would look at you like you were an idiot for not knowing how things work on their ships. I've been on 4 other cruises and this was all different, but they assume that the passengers know the way it is, and are really rude if you don't. Part of the yacht club perks is the ability to queue jump, but in practice this doesn't work. If you can walk past a distressed family with screaming children and crying mothers (overheated and left standing in 40 degree heat with no help, shade, or anyone who gives a damn), just because you paid a bit more for your cabin, you have a stronger stomach than me. I couldn't do it, even when it did work, it was just too awful to do. Food was average, and this was in the best part of the ship, so I imagine it was pretty bad in the normal restaurants and buffets. The pools were really crowded and grubby by the end of the day. Everything is charged as an extra - which gets really old even things like in room movies, and given the lack of decent or varied entertainment on board, providing movies should be the LEAST they can do. They even charge to use the gym, which is so dumb. And the excursions were AWFUL! A giant mess or disorganisation and wasted time. Luckily we'd been to many ports before so did our own thing. But the two excursions we did had so much standing around and wasted time. The staff were great in the yacht club, and awful everywhere else. The reviews were awful and spot on - but sadly we were already committed. Back to Princess for us, and fingers crossed this hasn't put us off cruising for life! NEVER AGAIN! Read Less

There were nine of us including four adults and five children. We chose this cruise primarily for the enjoyment of the youngsters. We visited ports in the Western Caribbean. My wife and I are very experienced, having been on about 125 cruises, each, over the years. I mention this so that a reader will understand that we have a firm foundation upon which to rate the quality of the Breakaway. Both my wife and I rate the Breakaway as possibly the worst experience that we have had in decades of travel. I could go on and on with negative comments but I'd probably run out of space. Here's a few examples. While the crew was pleasant, it was clear they were not trained well and supervision was lacking. We ate in three or four different restaurants and, without exception, service was slow, very slow. We rate the food as "average", at best. For example, at breakfast, there were no blueberries or strawberries unless you asked. If available, there was about a 15 minute wait for them to appear. Every other ship we have been on had a "lobster night". Not so with a Breakaway. My wife and I enjoy salmon fillet as part of our dinner and with the exception of two evenings, it did not appear on the menu. Perhaps the most irritating thing was the overpowering feeling of being "nickeled and dimed" to death. The most disturbing example was when we visited the "private island" . Other cruise lines universally include basic beverages and lunch. Not so with the breakaway. There was a charge for any food, and water was not available, unless it was purchase. (A large bottle of water cost four dollars on the ship but was seven dollars on land). One of the tram drivers told us that the NCL used to supply water but their policy changed a year or so ago. The ship was extremely overcrowded and sitting anywhere near the main pool area resulted in being constantly subjected to music that was louder than the roar of a rocket beginning it's mission to space. There were usually long, long, lines waiting to get on the ship or off the ship. That was bad enough but people constantly cut into the front of the line without being stopped. Mini-golf ran out of clubs and balls. One night, my grandkids were told to leave the court because it was time for the crew to play basketball. Long lines for the waterslides. Leaving the ship was it a "nightmare from hell" with little or no supervision or direction. While the initial cost of this cruise was lower than competitors, the Breakaway makes it up in their over the top "nickel & dime" policy. I strongly recommend paying a little more, going with another line and getting a lot more for your total investment. Read Less

I chose this cruise line because I desired to take my family to Alaska. The embarkation and disembarkation were the smoothest and most professional parts of the cruise. The cruise catered to a specific demographic and offered very little for others. It was not child/teenage friendly and provided limited services for them. Most of the staff was not friendly or professional and were simply there to do a job. They were not there to provide a memorable experience. The photographers did not take good quality photos which gave a limited selection to choose from. We desired to buy more photos but could not. The food selection and quality did not meet the standard of other cruise lines. Some of the cabins were nicely sized but had very small showers. Each Port of Call was very nice, had great scenery and offered less expensive excursions on shore. All of the excursions (purchased all after arriving at port) were nice except the last (Victoria), which provided almost no excursion opportunities because we arrived at 7:00 p.m.. This cruise line provided a very poor cruise experience and simply fed and transported us from one location to another. Read Less

Sailed the Norwegian breakaway a week ago out of Miami and visited Roatan, harvest cay, Costa maya and Cozumel and was very disappointed with the ship and cruise line. We traveled on the celebrity equinox last summer and had a great time, delicious food , great entertainment and great service. At the start of the cruise before boarding there was almost a stampede by a mismanaged and unorganized boarding process, thankfully no one was hurt. The initial buffet on our day of boarding was the usual overcrowded hungry bunch of people hitting the buffet and was expectantly chaotic. During the course of the week we only at at the complimentary restaurants and food venues, which were all horrible, redundant and had very poor service. The menus were basically all the same for all the complimentary restaurants, food was poor quality and the service was horrible. The buffet which we normally enjoy for breakfast and lunch was like being stuck on a floating Golden Corral for a week, inclusive of hamburgers and hotdogs. I visited the specialty restaurants and they appeared better and smelled delicious but was not in a family of fives budget, they were all expensive and unaffordable. While I had paid extra for the premium beverage package, it did not include bottled water and you were not allowed to bring any bottled water onboard. If you take daily meds your choice is disgusting tap water or expensive bottled water. The good points were an amazing “ROCK OF AGES” show and one day for lunch was me sneaking away and getting an amazing cheeseburger in paradise at the Jimmy Buffett’s Margarittaville in which I had to pay extra for. Minor complaints were none of the bars made a good pina colada, bars were overwhelmed, lime, toothpicks, hair and plastic cups in the main pool. Fight at the pool between two drunk females, bikini top lost and both escorted away by ship security. After leaving I was charged approximately $22.00 from one stateroom and $35.00 from our second stateroom for minibar purchases which we did not make, if I had not called and asked for a total I would not have picked up this charge and it would have got lost in the other charges that we incurred during the week. Shore excursions were around a hundred dollars on average per person, no way affordable for a family of five with 4 ports to stop in. Made our own way for a fraction of the cost. The ports: (1) Roatan was our favorite, a round trip cab for $50.00 to paradise beach and hotels, $20.00 each for admission to one of the nicest beaches I was ever on, turquoise water and super fine sand, no eats but plenty of buckets of local beer that were very enjoyable. (2) harvest cay, Belize, NCL’s private island, most of the attractions, such as the zip line and high ropes tour closed due to high winds as were beach umbrellas. Nothing was included like RC does on their private ports, drink package of food. This was another NCL money grab in my opinion. (3) costa maya, our second time there, just stayed in the port shopping area, shopped and a few beers in the complimentary pool. Stayed away from seaweed beaches this time. (4) Cozumel-$40 round trip cab to Mr. Sancho’s resort, paid an all inclusive rate per person, all you can eat drink, beach, chairs, umbrellas, pools were included. The were not stingy on the food or drink, very attentive to your beach needs, I would highly recommend. Returned to Miami very disappointed a swore I would never sail Norwegian Cruise Line ever again, going home to celebrity but would like to try Royal Caribbean. Worst vacation/cruise ever!!! Read Less

This was the only cruise that fit schedules for everyone in our family. We also thought maybe we should try new cruiseline after 5 cruises with the same company. Big mistake. The ship itself looks beautiful. Embarkation was fine. Excursions were fine. Cabin was fine except that some guests decided to smoke in their cabins so our cabin smelled smoky too. My cabin has “no smoking” sign inside not sure about others. Complained twice, nothing was done. The housekeeper even said he did not want to anger other guests. Bad smell aside, it’s for the ship safety. guess safety does not matter. Food was bad. Buffet breakfast was cold or overheated (rubbery) scramble eggs. Yogurt was in a big open bowl so gross that someone could easily spit on it. Buffet lunch or dinner was a collection of pasta and pizza, a little grilled chicken, grilled fish, nothing spectacular. Dinning room only went twice. Dining room did not serve any drink, not even regular tap water. You are forced to buy bottled water or wine. Definitely no coffee or tea after the meal. Meal was way below any cruise line standard. I could possibly do better at home in terms of taste and presentation! This cruise was 95% Italian focus. Shows were mostly in Italian and there was 1 in French. For my family, pure english speaking, no entertainment for the entire cruise. To be honest, the singing was ok, dance, acrobatics were below other cruise lines standard. Disembarkation was a disaster. 3 hours delay due to some event happening at Venice. We were expected to believe that this event was new and they knew nothing about it and did not think it would affect disembarkation. Really? According to our “daily program”, we should be out of the ship by 9:30 then changed to 10:30. We did not get off until 11:45. We missed our flight or many guests missed the flights or we had to scramble to look for alternatives paying extra. All we heard from the customer service, which probably more appropriate to call them customer no service, was that it was not their fault, there was nothing they could do. YES, you could do something and that was simply providing accurate information from the beginning! Being pure English speaking Asian from the North America, definitely minority in this trip, my family did not feel welcomed at all. No crew ever said a hello to us even if we walked right into each other. There was this lead Spanish officer, she was so cheerful and bubbly speaking in her language with her people but when she saw me, she took away the smile and simply looked and walked away. The worst I have ever been treated in my cruise experiences. MSC clearly is not ready to handle international guests in Europe, at least with this cruise and this crew. The whole cruise is tailored for Italian, Spanish or simply white. Going forward we will stick with more reputable cruise line, get our money worth. Read Less

1. Room 8040 was terrible we keep hearing super loud thumping sounds from somewhere, my four year old who always sleeps like a baby woke up so many times and said it’s just too noisy 2. Food service was terrible, they ask you how you want the meat cooked but it’s never cooked to our preference and most things are cold when they reach us. We weren’t very happy that there were many times when we were hungry but there wasn’t any food available to us other than soggy fries and pizza that tasted like plastic. The dining rotations were so bad by day 3 we wanted to skip it and just go to the buffet but only to realize there is no dinner buffet! Desserts were unbearable! Breakfast buffet was so 1980’s. No gluten free options and it’s just a bunch of flour and sugary foods but are not even considered real food. We could choose either cheap waffle pancake or donut, with lots of sugary dressings, or we go for boxed cereal that aren’t even real food but synthesized. The butter wasn't even real butter it was margarine! People who care about their bodies and health and watch what they eat don’t eat these packaged processed foods. My daughters are gluten/corn/soy sensitive, they ended up having no appetite for breakfast. I am not sure about you but from where I live everyone is aware that eating like that causes obesity and diabetes. But I don’t mind eating that stuff if it’s good but it wasn’t even good! 3. Most of us were so seasick we couldn’t really enjoy it, and I have never been seasick at all on any cruise ship, not to mention one time I was on a cruise when I was in between first and second trimester. But this time I felt so sick I was lying down one time for 36 hours straight and one of the kids threw up right in the middle of the show that’s how bad the ship was moving and swaying. 4. The Club House was terrible, they just hand my 4&6 year olds iPads! For the money we pay we would think the people there would have been giving them some more interesting things to do but our kids come back and say they are bored because they just get an iPad which my 4 year old never got any instruction and isn’t even fluent in English, so she had no idea what she was doing and was utterly bored! 5. The UK customs clearance was unbelievable, we were in line for almost two hours only to have to give up because we didn’t want to miss the Lion King premier and then had to go back in the line again after the movie! That’s just really poor coordination, we wasted so much time and it’s quite obvious that people were pissed too. They even asked us if we had any intentions to work in the UK! As if anyone would pay 17000 USD just to sneak in and find illegal work? 6. Laundry was so frustrating when half of the machines would always be broken at any time! So the functional machines were scarce and people ended up having to bite or fight each other to use them. It just reminded me of my college dorms! And people were taking my stuff out of dryer even before I got the message from Disney Cruise app! I had semi dry clothing lying all over when I got there a few minutes before my dryer time is up! 7. When we got to Dover, the shuttle bus to Dover train station actually cost 10 USD per person including our small children, that’s 40 USD in total while local taxi which we ended up taking only costs 10 pounds! 8. For all the coffee at our dining rotations, it actually costs money! For a coffee to go with the dessert after our meal, it costs 2-3 dollars I think that’s just too obvious Disney is trying to charge for whatever they could. We paid 17000 USD for 7 days and we couldn’t get a coffee to go with our dessert? 9. The Disney Cruise wasn’t even very Disney, I thought it would give us the feeling when we walk into Disney Orlando but it was nowhere near. Other than the shows and occasional characters posing for photographs (which again costs money), nothing was Disney! No Disney Music, no Disney decor, no Disney colors, not even the famous Disney parade....which we actually had even at non Disney Cruise Ship one time, the Oasis. For 17000 USD I think we definitely have many other options. Read Less

Food is quite bad quality. Shore excursions are over priced, with mediocre guides with thick accents you cannot understand. Premium drinks are low quality (particularly wine). Kids programs are super boring - this is the first time my kids refused to go to the kids center and kept repeating how boring everything is. There are only 2 pools on the main deck!! - one indoor and one outdoor, and both are tiny so they are incredibly crowded at all times. Service across the ship is below mediocre.
