Popular Things to Do in Pinhao
Don't Miss in Pinhao
Pinhao Railway Station: The town's railway station is considered one of the most beautiful in Portugal and is Pinhao's main attraction. The lobby is decorated with traditional glazed blue and white azulejo tiles that date back to the 1930s and depict scenes relating to port production. There is also a small museum and wine shop.
Favaios: This small town is home to one of the last traditional bakeries in the Douro Valley along with a bread and wine museum that tells the history of the distinctive four-cornered bread and local port wine. The bread is traditionally cooked in an oven heated with wood mixed with old grape vines.
Wine: Large producers in the area include Sandeman, and river cruise lines run excursions to the Quinta do Seixo Wine Centre located high on a hillside above the river. A guide wearing the company's trademark black cape and wide-brimmed Spanish hat leads visitors and afterward there is a tasting and the opportunity to admire panoramic views over the Douro Valley.
