Camden Harbor Park & Amphitheater: Designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted on former shipyard land, it's a short walk from the harbor and offers wonderful views of the waterfront. (55 Main Street; open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

Mount Battie and Camden Hills State Park: If you're energetic, you can make the one- to two-hour trek up the mountain. Or take a cab to the picnic area. A variety of hiking trails allow you to leisurely explore the terrain. Or climb to the top of the stone observation tower. Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, a Camden resident from 1903 to 1913, was so moved by this view, it inspired her poem Renascence. (280 Belfast Road; open year-round from 9 a.m. to sunset)
