Droolworthy white-sand beaches circle the perimeter of the island and tempt daytrippers with the promise of snorkeling, swimming, paddleboarding or simply the opportunity to chill out in a waterfront cafe. Hop in a cab to the Senggigi strip of beaches as a good starting point. (Make sure you have local currency.)
In town, local markets stock a wide range of artwork, carvings and handmade cloth from traditional craft villages dotted around the island. If you have the time and interest, take a tour of the Sukarara Weaving Village to see artisans at work. Cooking classes, temple tours and pampering sessions at affordable day spas are also popular ways to while away a day.
