When ashore in Honiara, it's best to take a tour because wandering around downtown loses its appeal pretty quickly.
The places to see generally relate to the abundant World War II history and for military buffs there is oodles to see. If you've seen the fabulous HBO mini-series "The Pacific", you'll know some of the key locations, such as the Battle of Alligator Creek, which took place right near the airport, or the Battle of Bloody Ridge. A poignant, well-kept memorial is located there with great views over the township.
