A real surprise. While there is little to see and do in Gythion, the shore excursion was a wonderful day out. The underground cave tour by boat was stunning, and even the drive there offered some lovely views and Helen's lively and brilliant commentary.

Wow! This was the excursion I was most looking forward to on our cruise, and it did not disappoint. The passage through the cavern is largely silent (unless you have chatty boat mates). Some of the formations look like they inspired Dr. Seuss. If you have mobility issues though, this is not a tour to take as there are numerous steps and about a half mile walk out through the dry portion of the cavern (alternately you can take the boat back to the starting point and just navigate the stairs).

Not enough English speakers so we went on the French coach. Did not understand the commentary on the coach. Best cave system we have ever visited. Around 1500 meters by boat. Watch your head! Not suitable if you are unable to bend double while sitting in the boat as the stalactites come very low. Seriously.

Tour of the Diros caves in boats is reminiscent of "Phantom of the Opera" or "Pirates of the Caribbean". Dramatic stalactites, the caves go on and on! Mind boggling, eerie but beautiful. Also had a tour of a small Greek town with a very pretty stone church. Bus trip to the caves is about 45 minutes but guide was very informative.
