This was a fun excursion. We have visited the mud volcano in Columbia and while this was a very different experience it was, nonetheless, enjoyable. We were greeted with music and singing followed by a Kava ceremony and then were broken into small groups of 10 where we went with a guide to our mud pot and covered ourselves with mud which then dried in the sun. While the mud was drying we walked over to see the source pool (discovered by American soldiers in WWII) and then into the mud pool to rinse off. Once we were (mostly) clean it was into the thermal pool which was very nice. Following that we were treated to fruit and water while waiting for a 10-15 minute coconut oil massage (which was very nice). Then back to the hut for more entertainment. Overall a very good experience. Read Less

Arrived at the Natural Thermal Mud Pool after a 40(ish) minute bus ride. There was a welcome and Kava ceremony, which was interesting, before we moved with our group (after instruction of how we were to proceed) to the 'mudding' area. After allowing ourselves to dry, we progressed to a pool to wash the majority of the mud from ourselves, before then heading into a large thermal water pool for a 'final rinse' and a relax. After leaving the pool, and drying off, you could choose to have a massage on a floor mat in the main welcome, open air hut, where a number of the local ladies waited to give you a massage, which lasted around 10 or perhaps 15 minutes. 'My' lady, Emily, was a gorgeous personality, and if I could have put her in my handbag and taken her with me, I would have ;) . After the massage, there was fruit and water waiting for us, before the farewell with singing from the locals, and finally making our way back to the bus for our trip back to the port and the ship.
