This was my favorite port, but least favorite tour. We did not like the snorkeling area as it was a roped off location near the beach and not in the open ocean.

The crew on the boat was great fun but I was really disappointed as we sailed for about 2 1/2 hours to get there and back and only had 40 minutes of mediocre snorkeling. If you want to do snorkeling this is not the trip for you.

Spencer Ambrose took very good care of us. We had a speed boat ride to a beach and snorkeling area. Spent several hours there and was given a great lunch and drinks. On the way back we stopped at several interesting spots for a narration by Chi Chi, our great tour guide. Bought some bananas from a local with a kayak full of local fruit to sell. Fresh and sweet. Wow - what a fantastic island and excursion! We started our day at the botanical gardens with the diamond waterfall, amazing foliage and the "fountain of youth". Really beautiful and well kept! The natural hot springs and historic baths were facinating. We then went to a former plantation for an incredible lunch (pictures of Prince Charles eating at this same restaurant were everywhere). Really good and filling meal. Next stop was the mud baths or volcano (we chose volcano). No running lava here - just a very smelly (sulphur) spot with active bubbling water and lots of calcium deposits. Tour guide was very organized, and knowledgable. From here we went to the catamaran for a lively (lots of rum and Pinot Beer) trip to a beach and snorkel. Not great snorkeling, and a bit busy, but it was nice to get wet. Last stop was back to the boat. Our favorite island! Read Less

We did the Snorkel under The Pitons Catamaran Sail. The Pitons are incredibly gorgeous and being able to snorkel in such a beautiful place was really nice. The water is very clear, allowing for a great view, there's just not that much to see. There is some coral and a few colorful fish. That was fine, we got out and just enjoyed the beauty around us. Recommend water shoes for this excursion as the beach at the water's edge has a lot of small rocks. Read Less

Pitons Cruise & Beach... Water was clean & clear, the cove was protected so the water was calm. Beach was lovely! the Pitons peaks are gorgeous and we snorkeled right under them. We were able to snorkel for over an hour! Loved riding up on the top deck of the boat. Nice that we got to motor into Marigot Bay and take a quick peek. Returned to the ship as the sun was setting. Only downside was that the excursion boat's motor quit as soon as we left the harbor, and it took about 20-25 minutes to get it restarted. No explanation given. Otherwise this was a great excursion!!! Read Less

Thanks cruise critic members for recommending Cosol Tours. Wonderful! All day tour, great driver, city tour with history, banana plantation with samples, brunch of local foods, rum punch, beer, soft drinks. On to the volcano and the mudbath, which was so fun, and then to the waterfall to wash off! Lots of water pressure from the waterfall. We also took a small speed boat to the beautiful Pitons and had a pleasent hour at the beach with optional snorkeling. On the way back fresh, warm home made bread with local cheese . Yum! Beverages traveled with us. So well worth it and only $75.00 per person. Highly recommend Read Less

After a ride to a secluded bay, I was offered a tow to the reef. A young man with a kayak towed me slowly along the reef, giving me time to take pictures. Since I was on my own to snorkel, having someone tow me made it a great experience. I didn't have to worry about ending up on the rocks, tiring out, getting a cramp or having to deal with problems on my own. Having said that, the entire event was problem free! Read Less

Powerboats to Anse Chastenet (next to the Pitons) for snorkeling for a few hours. OK snorkeling if you have never been to St. John. Black sand beaches with lunch available for purchase ($15, we did not buy, but others really liked it) Resort has a restaurant and bar but we also did not use. There was some shade on the side of the beach, but not allowed to use chairs or palapas. Cruised back up the coast with a stop at Marigot Bay which was on my list of things to see. Very nice, but do not see how it is "one of the prettiest bays in the world". Enjoyed the visit and had killer drinks at the little bar with the tripadviser sign (sorry do not remember the name). Just returned from our West Indies sail on the Viking Oceans "Star" and second time in St. Lucia with Spencer Ambrose. This time we did the Beach Break - took his speed boat directly to Sugar/Jalousie Beach and spent the entire time snorkeling under the Pitons. The best snorkeling of our cruise! The squid were still there - and beautiful as ever! Maybe even a few more? Just a few small rocks so glad to have our water shoes. Thought we might need to rent snorkel gear but they did have enough for everyone. I particularly like that we could walk in from the beach rather than jumping off a boat into waves. We were among the first to arrive and easily found four good chairs together under the shady trees. No need at all to rent lounges from the resort. Plenty of long chaises in good condition. Buffet Creole lunch was delicious. I also really enjoyed the fresh fruit smoothies from the "Banana Boat" vendor on the beach. Spencer met us at the pier, but wasn't able to join us that day. Instead, his daughter and crew took really good care of us. Wonderful day! Read Less
