Ocho Rios River Tubing Excursion Reviews

A mix of currents carry you downstream as you sit back and admire the natural surroundings of the river valley before feeling the rush of the splashing rapids. The course takes you over a variety of class 2 river rapids, each followed by a calm section to chill out and lounge in your tube.

Our first port was Ocho Rios. We booked with Courtney Taylor and got Courtney himself as our guide. What a great guide he was too. Our family of four were his only guests. We went to the Blue Hole having already been to Dunn’s Falls on a previous trip. We absolutely loved the Blue Hole and the kids had the best time diving into the pools. I have bad knees and it took everything I had to get up the falls, but our guide at Blue Hole was very patient with me and I gave him a nice tip afterwards for all the help he gave me. After Blue Hole, Courtney took us to the drop off point for our river tubing adventure. That was so relaxing and beautiful. There were some gentle currents with just enough agitation to make it exciting without being too scary. Finally, Courtney took us to a place to eat then back to the pier. Read Less

Two guides per group to help if you hit still water or get stuck on the side. We wore flip flops and were fine going down the river though they try and tell you that you need river shoes and they are for sale for just $14. Read Less

We participated in the River Tubing Adventure + VIP Beach Club. Only two true negatives here. One, the river tubing is 45 minutes away from the port, and after that you drive back to the port plus 10-15 more minutes to get to the beach club. Couldn't they have picked a river closer to their beach club, or vice versa? Two, after getting our river tubes/helmets/life jackets we walked 5-10 minutes through woods to the mouth of the river. During this time a large number of mosquitoes feasted on our blood, leaving us with itchy bites for the rest of our trip. It did not say anywhere in the excursion details that insect repellent might be useful. Otherwise the river tubing was enjoyable: a guide supervised our trip down the river and pushed us through some "rapids." At the end of the river we were gathered onto a bunch of rafts hitched onto a motorboat and pulled with the rest of our group over to a small beach where our van awaited to drive us back to the Beach Club. At the Beach Club our tubing group had its own little section of the beach where our leader waited on us, bringing us a selection of drink options and a meal, course by course. The meal was a set menu and it was brought out at regular intervals during our 2.5 hours on the beach, meaning whatever you were doing had to stop to go back and eat. The Beach Club did try to upsell massages and drinks in keepsake glasses, but mostly was quiet and peaceful. Read Less

Tubing down a fresh water river was fun, although I am a little short and the mandatory life vest kept poking me in the neck. I am a very good swimmer, so I just unzipped it. If you are not a good swimmer you would want to just take the poking as part of the fun was the rapids along the way that could cause you to take a spill. No one in our group turned over, but we heard other did. It was a little bit of a ride but the guide, Kimone, was great. She shared her love of her home, the educational system and history of Jamaica. At the beach, Kimone, made sure we were all fed and had fresh drinks. The food and drinks were part of the tour and were very good. Downside to port itself was when you left the ship, you could not take two steps without people trying to give you a ride, sell you some good or offering a "better" tour than the ship. I almost turned around and got back on the ship until it was time to leave for our tour as it was simply overwhelming. Thank goodness for my husband who just started blocking the people from coming up to me. Read Less

We were part of a group of about 16 people on the excursion. We started off with a bus ride to the supply area, where we were supplied with life vests and helmets, after which we went to the embarkation point. We had two guides, Dwight and Omar, who were awesome! They put each of us into a tube and gave us instructions. Once everybody was in their tubes and holding on to the guide rope, the guides got in their own tubes, told us to let go of the guide rope and gave us instructions about staying together and making sure we faced forward, especially going over the rapids. The river was mostly shaded and the water was nice and cool. We traveled about 3 miles down the river, with plenty of laughs and some splashing. We ended up at the supply area, which is also a restaurant/gift shop. The only disappointment was the terrible advice we got from the person at the shore excursions desk on the ship. He told us that there wasn't really anything to buy and not to take much money or a credit card, that he didn't think it would be secure. He was wrong. All the belongings were left on the bus, which was locked. You could order lunch (jerk chicken) before you left on the tubing trip and it would be ready when you came back. Also, all along the river were photographers taking pictures and you could purchase CDs of photos of your journey. We only took enough money to tip the driver and the guides and we had enough to buy some ice cream, but we wished we had brought more so we could have bought lunch and photos. Aside from that, it was great! We had a lot of fun and I would love to do it again! Read Less

Jamaica was my favorite stop, and the one we had the least amount of time in. Here we went River Tubing. Loads of fun, but if you are afraid of water I wouldn't suggest it. The last rapid there is a 50/50 chance you will end up in the water and it's scary if you do. I flipped my tube, went under, swallowed about half the river, but the guides were right there to pull me out. My little heart was going about 100 beats per second, but I would do it again, and I HATE having my head below water. However, there were at least two others in the party that went into hysterics, and a little boy that got scraped up and was crying hysterically. There was a group of 6 that were aged late 60's to 88, who were just fine, and were doing this tour for the umpteenth time. I would highly recommend it, but know you're and your group's limits if traveling with the very young, or those afraid of the water. Read Less

After docking we experienced the organized chaos of everyone trying to find their tour operators. Our driver found us and off we went on a 30 minute ride (with running commentary) up through the winding hills with jungleicious views. We stopped at the base to get our safety helmets before being driven to the entry point of the White River. We donned safety vests and were ushered into the river with a tube. It was refreshing and invigorating and our group consisted of all age groups (must be able to swim!) The guides were great and the flora was beautiful. I am not physically active and did not need to be. This was a relaxing journey with a few rapids but they were very manageable. At the end of our hour tube experience we ended back at base. The photos were pricey but worth it as they took the pics of our most fun moments. They had a small bar and gift shop. They also rent lockers which we used while we tubed. I highly recommend this excursion! Read Less
