Belize City Rainforest Tour Excursion Reviews

More than half of the country consists of subtropical jungle or rainforest and is home to an incredible variety of wildlife.

She had a reaction to DEET in the mosquito spray and the bugs attacked her relentlessly. 30 mins in the pool and a Belizian Lunch later she forgot all about it. We'll go again but skip the jungle and stick to the pool and lunch. The pool appears to be like an acre large and was very nice. Read Less

Hiked up a ½ mile carrying our tubes. Jumped into the cold spring water and they navigated us in small groups through the caves. Afterwards we were served a BBQ lunch before heading back to the port. Although the jeeps could have been in better condition this excursion was FANTASTIC. We drove the jeep in the rain forest and got to walk through a cave. After the tour, we were led back to what was the owners home on a farm where we were provided w/a nice lunch. The 2 guides were GREAT and fun. This was the ONLY excursion that we were on where the vendors did not HOUND you for tips. Even the tender boat operator begged for tips and brought it up several times about how tips are appreciated. On the Jeep Adventure, the tipping was NEVER brought up at all. All the more reason that I gave them a tip. Read Less

We were paid for a driving tour of the City & Country then a walking tour of the Rain Forrest and Baboon Sanctuary. This tour was a complete SCAM! The driver stopped for gas then stopped again to get himself a gatorade. As he was driving to the "rainforrest" he pointed out some schools and banks. After driving for 45minutes we ended up in what looked like someones backyard. REALLY! There was a little hut with some very old pictures there and a gift shop with a soda machine. That is it. Another guide Russell came and walked us down the road to some woods that was the "rainforrest" He pointed out a few plants and told some stories. While we were walking he made some noises to call the Baboons. We stopped for a few minutes at which time Fire ants crawled on myself and a little girl! NOT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE AT ALL! Russell encouraged us to keep moving as he helped to swat the ants off my legs. The little girls mother took her back to the hut. She was to afraid to continue. Finally Russell our trusted guide got us in the middle of the "rainforrest" couldn't find the Baboons and said "wait here, I'll be back in 5 or 10 minutes." Well that was it for me. He walked off before anyone could say anything but I yelled out this is crazy and We are going back Russell. On our way out, he met us and had some Baboons which everyone agreed to check out quickly. We fed the 3 of them mangos, got some pictures and got the hell out of there! Terrible experience and I will put it on every site possible because that Company is a disgrace! Belize In the Sun is the name of the company! Rip Off!!!! Read Less

This was our first time in Belize. I can understand why its not a huge tourist destination... the city is still growing and starting to accommodate travelers. The water is rocky and filled with coral reef. The water isn't bright and colorful like nearby Mexico....but the people are great. Belize is a mix of so many different races and cultures its basically a melting pot. When I think of Belize I think "green, lush & rainforests". We did the Aerial Trek zip line and it was the best one we have ever done. I highly suggest. The rainforest is exactly what they describe, it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The ride was 45 miles, but we got to see so much of the country on the ride. There is not much to do in town so I suggest making Belize the port where you do an all day excursion of some kind. Belize City is a tender port. We secured our lines right on time at 7am and first tender was at that time. It was heavily raining in Belize, but we were prepared. We had a Princess tour booked for The Zoo, Howler Monkeys, & lunch. We met at 8am in The Explorer's Lounge. We got on the tender at 8:30am and to the dock at 8:50am. Not sure how they saw the dock as it was not too visible with the weather. Did not use the ship's tender boats, used a local company that guy said dock was about 5 miles from ship. The life jackets said SW Tours on them. 4 ships were in the harbor today. You tender to an area called Fort Street Tourism Village. We docked at terminal 1 for Princess. We had time to use the restroom and then got on bus at 9:25am. Bus did have a restroom and A/C. Our first stop was the Community Baboon Sanctuary we arrived at 10:35am and left at noon.(this was in the country) There was a demo about the plant used for a broom/mosquito swatter which was very interesting. We went on a muddy walk through the area of the local plants and vegetation and saw and heard the howler monkeys. We arrived at the Olde River Tavern-an outside venue but covered by tents and 1 building right on the Belize river. The rain had made the river rise quite a bit. We enjoyed our local Belizean lunch of rice & beans, chicken cooked in coconut milk, and a salad. Belize coca cola was included. Belikin beer was offered for $3.00 USD which I tried and my husband had the coke. Next we were off to The Zoo at 1pm and arrived at 1:35pm. We stayed until 3:10pm at the zoo and arrived back to the tender pier just before 4pm. Last tender was scheduled to leave at 4:15pm. This was an all day tour, but I managed to run fast to the MOHO chocolate shop on the pier and grab a few chocolate bars. The tour company was called Chukka . We loved the zoo, but felt a little hurried. It was a full day with great guides and bus driver. We saw so much of the countryside and our guides told us so much about their country and way of life, can't really get that feeling by staying in Belize City. Read Less
