Yangon (Rangoon) Shwedagon Pagoda Excursion Reviews

Shwedagon Pagoda is, without a doubt, Yangon's main attraction for tourists and locals alike. The 2,500-year-old shrine is the most sacred Buddhist site in Myanmar. Shwe means "gold" in Burmese, and the 361-foot stupa is covered with 11 tons of it, while the top is encrusted with 4,531 diamonds. The entire complex contains hundreds of temples, statues and smaller stupas, with untold numbers of Buddhas, large and small.

Did the night tour to Shwedagon and even though it was 2 hours each way on the bus it was worth the effort. The next day we did a full day tour with Htay of Tours by locals which was very interesting and great value. Make sure you have morning tea at the Strand Hotel. It is a must see and very reasonably priced. Read Less

We did two excursions in Yangon. One was an evening tour highlighting the Shwedagon Pagoda. The second (daytime) tour turned out to be the same tour but done in daylight, although the written description would have you believe otherwise . It was supposed to provide refreshment on the Royal Barge but, in fact, did not take us even near the Royal Barge. Total waste of time and money. Just about everyone who went on this excursion felt the same way and, like us, complained to Guest Services. Eventually, we received a refund of about 15% of the excursion cost. Considering the time wasted on this useless excursion this amounts to little more than an insult!IN GENERAL, MOST OF THE EXCURSIONS ON THIS CRUISE WERE OVERPRICED AND AND WERE OF POOR QUALITY.
