Whitsundays (Airlie Beach, Hamilton Island) Great Barrier Reef Tour Excursion Reviews

With 74 islands and the Great Barrier Reef on its doorstep, natural attractions are very much the star of Whitsundays' show, and no trip is complete without a day exploring the waters. This was an excellent excursion. A 150+ person catamaran took us out about 40 miles to a pontoon platform. The platform was in the middle of nowhere and quite and experience. The dive & snorkel area was well marked. We paid extra for a "guided" tour. The guide was excellent pointing out fish and plants, the coral and all the beauty of the reef. It was well worth the extra money especially if you have a beginner or novice snorkeler. The walk around glass bottom of the pontoon was great viewing and the submarine boat was good viewing. An excellent excursion. Read Less

We did the Great Barrier Reef shore tour here. It is very expensive, but we felt it was worth it to snorkel on the reef (something on our must-do list) and we really didn't want to organise this ourselves. It was excellent. There was a glass-bottom boat available as well and a buffet lunch. The only drawback was the 2 hour catamaran ride out to the pontoon. It was fairly rough and our youngest son was sick a couple of times, however the staff on the tour were very supportive. Read Less
