Stockholm Vasa Museum Excursion Reviews

Located on the island of Djurgarden, the museum displays the only intact 17th century ship in the world, the 69 meter (226 feet) long warship Vasa that sank in 1628 on her maiden voyage in Stockholm.
While impressive, would have preferred more time in Old Town.

Our Princess tour was a disaster from the start due to an unorganized and poor guide. Vasa Ship is highlight of tour, so massive. We were not given enough time here and got in late due to guide's incompetence. Huge crowds.

It's not just a ship! There's a lot of great information about what life was like during the time the ship was being built.

Our shortest stop because one has to cruise through the archipelago in daylight, which was growing shorter this time of year (one disadvantage to the later cruise). We only had time to do a ship excursion that drove us through the old part of town and then visited the Vasa ship of 1628 and the museum, an amazing exhibit literally built around the ship that was raised and preserved. We were planning on doing this on our own, but there was a bike race in town which might have limited access, since the time in port was short. This tour included the Stockholm City Hall which is amazing and the Vasa museum which is interesting to many people because of the raising of an intact 16th century ship. Our tour guide was really annoying in that she never kept track of anyone and it was a huge group. We could not hear most of what she said so that when she just wandered off, it was by luck we kept up with her. However, at least we got to see something which didn't look like it was going to happen other than the tour. Read Less

Vasa museum is a must. Amazing. Rest of the tour was driving around the city, no stops, no walking time. Go for Vasa, the rest is wasted time.

I got talked into taking the Vasa Museum tour with the ship rather than just getting the HOHO boat like I wanted. I am very happy that I went to the Vasa Museum- there's a lot more there than just a salvaged ship. And our guide gave us an interesting perspective on Sweden, since she was from Spain, but otherwise, the bus trip was not memorable. We had to talk her into letting us off at the old town- they would normally have just returned us to the ship. The town center is very charming- lots of shops and restaurants. We had trouble finding a place that served Swedish food, though- there were burgers and pizza everywhere! But everyone loved Stockholm- it's a little more compact and manageable than Copenhagen, with all the charm and comfort you expect in European cities. Read Less

A short bus trip around the city with a photo opportunity stop overlooking the harbour. The highlight was a visit to the VASA museum to view the 17th Century warship which sank in 300 feet of water after only 28mins of its maiden voyage. The ship was discovered and raised in 1961, then restored to a remarkable condition today. We have about 1hour 20 minutes to browse around the ship and and all its ancillary exhibits. I was completely in awe at the recovery state of the ship. Read Less
