On our visit to St Lucia, we took part in a whale and dolphin watch carried out by Captain Mike's. We arrived at the little boat, it WAS a little boat - when compared with the P&O Britannia. There were approximately 20 passengers on board with three 4 crew members.
The boat started and we introduced ourselves to each other, the crew supplied drinks to the passengers - WATER, SPRITE, COCA-COLA and RUM PUNCH. Drinks flowed easily, especially the Rum Punch.
The captain advised that they would try and see sperm whales and dolphins, but it was possible that we would not see any - as they were in nature, and decided what they wanted to do themselves.
We travelled for one hour before we saw out first sperm whale, the captain stopped the boat and advised where to look - WOW!!!!! We saw this magnificent beast and saw it dive down. When the sperm whale was safely away the captain started again.
More drinks followed. The crew member talked with us, supplied even more drinks. Music started to by played, and on the lower deck I could see some passengers singing and dancing.
30 minutes later we came across a pod of dolphins, a family group of over ten individuals. They swam next to the boat, and two jumped out and splashed back into the water.
On the trip back to the harbour the crew told us about two of the wrecks which surround the island, the on-shore locations and a little about themselves.
More Rum Punch followed.
We had a fantastic time on this tour, the crew were fantastic, the entertainment onboard was amazing. Witnessing the sperm whales and dolphins was awe-inspiring.
