Progreso Uxmal Excursion Reviews

Discover the breathtaking Mayan city of Uxmal, largely considered one of the most beautiful cities in the Mayan world.

Book with the cruise line. It is just as cheap and they did a great job. The Uxmal only version gives you more time at the ruins. There is a decent restaurant actually in the visitor's center. Don't bother with Coole Chepa Che at the resort. Guides were outstanding. Fully air-conditioned and comfortable bus. World Class site. Skip Progresso and go to a cenote or one of the ruins. Uxmal is one of the largest and the only one you can climb. (Not that I did) You will have a great time. I usually book independently, but not here. There is 4 mile pier to deal with. It is just much easier to book with Carnival and really no more expensive. Read Less

Good guide. Knowledgeable. Tight bus ride. (I think Mayans are small stature, and bus was designed for Mayans with had little leg room!) Ruins were nice. Weather was fine. Drive through port Progresso and Yucatan State capital of Merida was very depressing - LOTS and LOTS of plastic trash bags all along the whole (1-3/4 hour drive each way) roadway....same in cities in front of most buildings andhouses. LOTS of trash and debris! Showed Mexico - well, Yucatan State - as a poor 3rd world country, not a resort destination! Pitiful! Read Less

Uxmal is amazing! Do not miss it! We pretty much had the place to ourselves and I captured some great memories via camera! We stopped at a local hacienda for lunch and then went swimming in the royal blue waters of a cenote. Superb tour!

In Progreso, we had booked an excursion to the Uxmal Ruins. This excursion was an entire day activity and the description stated that a snack would be provided for the trip back to the ship. When we board the bus the morning, we were handed a brown paper bag and a hot bottle of water. The room temperature bottle of water didn't bother me. However, on the trip to the ruins our tour guide told us there was a ham and cheese sandwich and banana in the bag for us. Since we had just gotten off the ship and had breakfast, I was not hungry. By the time we got back to the bus heading to the ship, it had been on a hot bus for multiple hours and was no longer safe to eat. The lack of food, plus the poor execution of the buffet on the ship made for quite a few unhappy guests when we got back. The tour itself was good and I really enjoyed our tour guide at the ruins. We booked with the cruise line because of the distance from the port. I am very glad we did because it took a full two hours to get back. We arrived back at the port at 4:15. The visit to Uxmal was worth every penny. The ruins were fantastic and fascinating. Even my teenage who didn't want to be there ended up loving it and having a great time. We followed up exploring the ruins with a little shopping and lunch at the restaurant on site. It was delicious and our bill came up to $60 with a tip. We shared two entrees and had a couple rounds of drinks. (Coke, Fresca, and Modelo for the adults) Read Less

We took the advise of others and broke off from our tour guide at the beginning of the tour. We were able to see the entire grounds and go at our own pace. I think we enjoyed it more then others. The bus ride was a little long so take something to read or do. Our bus needed new suspension. At the end of the tour our guide made sure to let us know that they get very little of the money we paid for the tour and they work primarily on tips. He also seemed to be selling us stuff the whole way there. The little stores there are pretty neat but very little english was spoken. I am not sorry we went on this excursions but with as many people they have going on these one would think a better bus would be provided and they wouldn't be asking for tips. Read Less
