We booked a ship shore excursion to Mt Wellington and the Botanic gardens. We had to clear customs here which held the tours up by a small amount of time. Excellent two hour round trip to top of Mt Wellington enjoying stunning, picturesque photo stops along the way, sampling fresh mountain water from a small waterfall, with fifteen minutes allocated at the very top where there are open air and indoor viewing platforms. Brace for the cold wind chill however! You could also take more time to enjoy a walking trail or simply observe the scenery and then catch the next bus. Great commentary from bus driver, who also offered to take pictures for everyone against the scenic background. Read Less
