Havana Viñales Valley Excursion Reviews

From the cruise port in Havana, you can travel just a few hours to Vinales Valley to enjoy the Cuban countryside and the unique landscape created by the island's karst rock formations and the vast tobacco plantations.

Lester was an amazing guide, The drivers from Havana to Vinales (where we met Lester) did not speak much English, but were very nice, wear capris or long pants since the classic cars have vinyl seats and in the cuban heat you will stick to them. I suggest bug spray while in Vinales, there are lots of biting flies on the farm. The farm was an amazing experience, as was learning about the tobacco selection process from field to cigar. The finer made us amazing cocktails, and after we went on a cave tour. All in all it was an amazing day. Read Less

Not enough time in the valley, too much time on the bus. We actually lost our group on the farm and the bus driver moved the bus, so for 10 or 15 min we actually though they had left without us, but we found the bus, then realized everyone else had gone into the barn for the tabacco demonstration, needless to say we missed that. After booking the tour, Oceania released something saying that sailing the underground river that was advertised was no longer on the tour. Of course we didn't read it until we got back to the room after our second excursion of the day. We also booked the Tropicana show which (according to the Oceania info) was a 3 hour tour to start at 8:00. After we boarded the bus for the show, the driver told us that it was a 20 to 30 minute ride to the show and it started at 10:00 and was almost a 2 hour show. We did not get back to our room until almost 1:00 AM. On the second day in Havana we booked a excursion through a local company, rode in a classic American car, did a walking tour, had lunch at a local place. It was great. Read Less

This tour is worth every penny!
Sail Date: June 2017
This tour is worth every penny! There were so many stops and we learned so much from our guide. He encouraged us to talk to the local people at every stop and if our Spanish was bad or non-existent (guilty) he would interpret!

Day 1: We did an 11hr bus tour to Vinales Valley about 2 hrs outside of Havanna.  Visited a rum factory and a cigar farm where the farm manager looked like a character out of Crocodile Dundee but even neater.  He wore these leather -like clothes which were all dirty and kinda greasy.   He explained their farm business (Govt gets 90% and they get to sell 10% on their own); but it is more like 90/20% as they have figured out a way to shield an extra 10% from the Govt's eyes. He had a huge knife in his back pocket, pulled that out and rolled a cigar for us.  He gave it to the sole cigar smoker in our group. Then we went to a scenic overlook with a salsa band and dancers and had lunch at a farm to table paradore/restaurant.  Even though a 2 hr drive to get there it was not riding along in silence as our articlulate, highly educated guide briefed us on Cuba's 4 revolutions, their economy, the benefits they receive from the Govt and their way of life. On way back drove by Havanna Univ; Revolution Square and other historical places. A most wonderful excursion if you don't mind the 2 hr bus ride to and from. Read Less
