Falmouth City Tour Excursion Reviews

Quaint Falmouth was an economic powerhouse and center for dramatic social change during the English Colonial Period. In today's Falmouth, visitors still enjoy 19th-century Georgian architecture as well as arts and crafts shopping, flavorful local fare and horse-and-buggy rides. Falmouth is the gateway to the best Jamaica has to offer.
Loved the shopping.

It was a 50 minute bus ride where we got to see the city and the 3 levels of living. It was than with a stop near Margaritaville ( not worth it and overpriced) we than hit pier 1 and had coffee and banana bread before a a bus ride back. Our guide was amazing and she shared a lot about living in Jamaica and the realities. She was open to answering all the questions. I would recommend this tour if you just want to get off the ship and drive around the city but not if you want a more in depth tour. Read Less

This was disappointing.

This was disappointing. We thought we would be seeing interesting sightseeing things about the area but were dropped off for two hours near some shops where there was nothing to see or do.

Falmouth: we again skipped the Disney options and booked with Falmouth Heritage Walking Tours. This one had food stops as well. It was definitely a less zippy pace than the Cozumel tour, but our guide Sanya was totally awesome. When a policeman on a scooter zipped through the middle of our walking group, she ran him down and gave him a talking to. I would not want to get a talking-to from Sanya. I also wouldn't have wanted to exit the port without a guide who knew where she was going. Falmouth was a sketchy, run-down, historic swap meet full of very nice people who are also extremely poor and would very much like to sell you bracelets or braid your hair. It was definitely an experience, but if you're not up for this sort of experience, there is conveniently a Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville at the port. Read Less

Originally we thought we'd just stay at the pool at the Margaritaville, but it looked so small that we decided to see if we could catch a ship excursion. We made it to where the excursions were leaving from and were able to sign up for the city and Greenwood Great House tour. Then they took us to a bus that was over filled. Apparently there was a 2nd bus that had just left and had empty seats, so we sat in jump seats until we caught up with the other bus. Made for a little awkwardness, but ended up being fine. Our "city" tour was basically just stopping at a church, then driving out of town as fast as they could. Couldn't really blame them, the town was very impoverished. Read Less

In Jamaica we chose the City Walking Tour. The staff was fantastic and the tour was wonderful and insightful with information about the local culture and buildings. At $25 per person it’s a great inexpensive tour to see the local town. The port is clean and well kept within the gates, the city however is very different. Within the port you can find some local vendors however items seem to be the same from shop to shop. Some would haggle, others would not. Highly recommend walking to the market just outside the fence to support locals where you will find cheaper prices and more ‘realistic’ Jamaica items. Felt secure for the most part with law enforcement and tourism police present though it can be a little intimidating in some areas. Read Less

A Heartbeat of Jamaica-Discover Falmouth FYA7Interesting local tour of Falmouth that included a historic sugar plantation site (with fruit, jerk meat and rum tasting), an old church and a daycare/preschool. School was out for the holidays but some of the teachers and their kids were there. Falmouth has a long way to go to be ready for tourists, most of the town is very sad and run down. Tour guide did a good job of showing us around. Rained for five days prior to our arrival so many of the places were muddy. Probably would be a different Jamaican experience if we had gone to Montego Bay or Ocho Rios. Read Less

We booked the Heartbeat of Jamaica tour looking for something a bit more educational this time around. We did enjoy touring some of the local churches and the guides were very knowledgeable on local history. The tour also stopped at a local school. The children were great and could not get over my daughter's blond hair. She's 5 and found a friend to play with in the short time we were there. My only reservation was that I did feel like the children were being exploited a bit. I hope the money allotted for our visit there really helps those kids. The second part of the tour was at an old sugar cane plantation. I got the feeling that this is still a work in progress. They may something in a few years. Right now there wasn't much to see. They gave us a taste of local jerk chicken, several local fruits, and of course a shot of rum. I did walk away feeling that the locals are very proud of their heritage. We were looking for a laid back experience and some exposure to the local situation for our children. I think this tour did that for us nicely. Read Less

We only booked this excursion after we landed in Falmouth. It is easy to do as everything is very organised in this port. We took a 3 hour easy tour that stopped only in 2 places - an old church where there are a few vendors out front so you can buy souvenirs, - and a little bar where they give you complimentary banana bread and coffee. (you can order other things from the menu and red stripe beer, but this tiny spot was very crowded - and we couldn't get a place to sit) Our tour guide on this little bus was great - very informative and engaging. The bar destination was a bit disappointing but that wasn't the reason for the tour so it worked out fine. We had lots of time to shop around the port when we got back. Also used the free internet/computers upstairs in the diamond store. Read Less
