We booked the Avalon By Land & Sea package: included the semi-sub boat ride, mini golf in Avalon, and a land tour all for one price. -The boat was awesome! (See pictures in cruise review) It's just a short trip from the green pier to Lover's Cove where they feed the fish pellets, and there are millions of fish everywhere. Each person gets their own padded stool/chair and huge window on the submarine. You'll see sea grass mostly -- no coral like in the Caribbean, so it's a different experience. Very cool. - Mini golf was a blast! It's an 18-hole course (very challenging) with lots of beautiful foliage around. - Land tour was nice and informative. Good views from up above Lover's Cove area looking back at ship and Avalon port area. ** Nice people. I would highly recommend this tour package. ** Read Less

It was fun.
Sail Date: December 2017
It was fun. Go early when there are less people on the small boat. Lots and lots of fish to see. The captain offers some history during the topside trip back to shore.

I wish it was shorter and less expensive.
Sail Date: November 2017
I wish it was shorter and less expensive. The excursion seems ideal for the 2-8 age range but I was a bit bored after the first 15-20 minutes.

It was easy to get to town on the large boats that Carnival hired to get people ashore. I looked at the Carnival tour options and having been to Catalina many times before I chose to book my own tour. On the green pier you can book the submarine tour at a better price than what they charged on the ship. All of the tour prices that I saw were overpriced and you could do the same thing on your own and save $. There are many shops and restaurants in town right after you get off the ship. Some people rented a golf cart and toured around the island. We were looking for tee-shirts and found a good shop along the road the takes you to the loading dock. It was the first shop and tee-shirts were 3 for $20. Read Less
