Bora Bora Snorkeling Excursion Reviews

Some of the most amazing scenery lies beneath the surface of Bora Bora lagoon waiting to be discovered. It is home to hundreds of dazzling tropical fish species.
Simon provided an excellent tour.
Sail Date: May 2019
Simon provided an excellent tour. We were the only snorkelers in a cove that he likes to visit. Great coral and fish. We also took his boat around the lagoon and saw all of Bora Bora.

Marona was a great guide who serenaded guests accompanying himself on the ukulele and took us to his private island home for refreshments on the half day tour on an outrigger boat. We booked in advance with an independent operator online and paid double the price charged on the day. Snorkeling with sting rays and reef sharks was good but a little scary when they swam underneath you. The coral is not very colourful as the reef has degraded but there are some lovely fish. Small motor boat took us to 3 Snorkeling spots. Loved the tour guide. A native of the island, he dove down to look for fish and point things out. We say many wonderful fish. The only drawback was the exit out of and entry onto the boat: for seniors it was a challenge. Next time I'd check out the type of boat before booking. Read Less

WOW!! Does not even begin to describe this outing. Price was $205pp for 7 of us to have a full day private tour in a nicely equipped speed boat (minimized transit times). David, our guide, started off by asking us "What we wanted to see." We snorkeled at 6 different locations inside and outside the lagoon. We went to one site for fishes (including barracuda and eels), one for Manta Rays, one outside the reef for coral and sharks, one for spotted Eagle Rays, and two for coral formations. One called "The Wreck" had the best coral formation I've seen. Our lunch included wine and beer and soda served on tables in knee deep water. Wow, what a day. Read Less

Do get up early to watch sail in; this is an extremely beautiful island. We tendered here, and that was a mess. We had been told tender tickets would be available at “x” time, so that’s when we went, only to learn people had lined up almost an hour earlier (lesson noted for the next day!!). So we ended up waiting an hour for a tender. We had pre-booked Reef Discovery Pure Snorkeling (gear and water/soda/fruit drinks provided), and they waited the extra 20 minutes for us (obviously, they know cruise ship and tender procedures). The boat held 8 of us + two guides who were professional, helpful, and fun. We were gone four hours and had four snorkel stops: manta rays, The Aquarium where we were given bread to attract the fish (and a reef shark and an unwelcomed barracuda), eagle rays (true to their name, they looked like they were flying), and the Coral Gardens. Guillaume was adept at finding eels and coaxing them out. Fabien showed us a seahorse, although it wasn’t anything like what we’re used to seeing. At each stop, fish were abundant, the gorgeously multi-hued water was warm, and boating past the resorts with the over-the-water bungalows was amazing. This was a spectacular excursion. Online, I had requested and was granted a drop-off at Matira Beach, but the guides must not have gotten the message, and we decided to get some lunch on the ship anyway. I wish we had insisted on the drop-off, for once we ate and took the tender back to the island, it was too unbearably hot and humid to even think about walking a beach, no matter that it was supposed to be amazingly beautiful. We found a restaurant a short walk from the pier that offered wifi with a meal purchase, but it was full with a wait list, so we returned to the ship. If you’re looking for wifi here, this restaurant is in a small strip of shops across from the church. Or you can take a taxi to Bloody Mary’s, but I imagine you’ll have to purchase something there as well. Read Less

This was by far the best snorkeling we experienced! Ben, our boat captain and guide, was friendly and knowledgeable. We stopped at 4 different sites and saw manta rays, eagle rays, beautiful coral and fish. Ben also pointed out a lot of the hotels/resorts around and other points of interest. He was happy to take pictures whenever you needed. The equipment was all top notch and Ben made sure to de-fog our masks every time before we went in the water. Snorkel and Stingray Excursion We took the morning excursion with Moana Adventures. The catamaran is large with bench seats facing forward. There were large stairs to get in and out of the water. What a special place. It really isn’t a snorkel at the stingray location. YOU STAND up in 2 to 4 feet of water just wearing your reefwalkers/sandals in a sandy reef about 30 minutes from shore. A couple boats were already there feeding the rays and sharks. It was a fairly windy day so the waves would hit you if you weren’t watching. But it is such a unique experience to be able to touch the stingrays and view a shark within a few feet from where you stand. The barbs have been removed from the rays. The stingrays arrive immediately and stuck around the entire hour we were there. You could touch, kiss, swim with, take pictures with and pictures of the sea life as close as you wanted to get. At one point I counted 10 rays in one spot. It was amazing! The second snorkel stop was called Coral Garden. We were about a quarter mile from the fringing reef with huge waves constantly crashing over. The current was strong and seas choppy so I declined going in, but people said it was beautiful. On board the Captain served delicious local juices. (Later on Moorea we will visit the plantation where it is processed) A must see adventure!! Read Less
