Belize City River Kayaking Excursion Reviews

From the cruise port in Belize City, consider a guided river kayaking excursion that will take you along the Belize River and into the rainforest where you'll see some truly incredible native plants and beautiful wildlife including birds, iguanas and maybe even monkeys.

Firstly, Belize is a hassle because you have to take a tender to/from the ship, however, once we got through that, we met our guide, Abner, who was amazing. The drive to the river/cave was about an hour and a quarter during which Abner provided us with details of the rich history. Once we got to the location, we hiked through the rain forest for about 30 minutes, again during which Abner pointed out numerous things of interest and then got to our Kayaks. We first kayaked through the caves during which we saw the people who had booked cave tubing. We definitely picked the better option! We had time to swim in the caves and then kayak down the river after which Abner drove us back to the port, this time taking a different route which allowed us to see more of Belize. I highly highly recommend this tour! Read Less

This was the highlight of the trip. VIV Tours did an amazing job. From the moment they meet us at the pier to the time we had to say goodbye, I felt safe and taken care of. The ride to the caves was a fascinating hour tour of Belize with explanations of every aspect of the country. The walk to the kayaks was beautiful, amazing, and so educational. I even ate a termite. You don't have to but I am so glad I did. The caves were indescribable. It was fun and exciting but also peaceful and beautiful. It rained a little at the end that made the day complete. We finished the day with some of the best food I had all week. We had chicken with beans and rice cooked in coconut milk and fried plantains. The guides got us back to the port in plenty of time to make it back to the ship. We had an amazing and unforgettable day. Read Less

At Belize, we booked a kayak excursion through caves with ShoreExcursioneer. It was about an hour bus ride to the river site, but our driver, Cardinal, made it very enjoyable with a non-stop monologue about the country-side, the history of his people and nation, and various anecdotes and tidbits of trivia. My husband and I were the only people on this tour (everyone else seemed to have booked the tubing tour), so we had our guide, Nelson, all to ourselves. We had to walk 30 minutes through the rain forest to get to our starting point. Nelson was very knowledgeable about all of the local flora and fauna which made our trek very enjoyable. Once we got in the kayaks, we spent about an hour on the river, going through five different caves and through open areas with small rapids. The water was cool and clear and the day was sunny. We couldn't have asked for more. After we got back to the staging site, we were served a lunch of black beans and rice and a small piece of chicken, both of which were very tasty. We then got back in the van for the hour ride back to the pier. All in all, a wonderful trip that only cost $110 for two people. Read Less
