Of all the ports Grand Cayman was my favorite. I love the blue water and the friendliness of the locals. I booked an excursion through Moby Dick, I think there were 15 people on that tour, very personalized. Left the port area and took a bus to the marina. The crew was fantastic!! Must have been about a twenty minute ride to the area where we would be snorkeling. The underwater sights were neat, saw some really pretty fish. After 45 minutes we headed to the sand bar to see the sting rays. The guides got into the water with us and helped us learn how to interact with the rays. By the end of the swim even my 10 year old was begging to hold them just one more time! Read Less

This was the WORST with the tour company but still fun. We get into our group the excursion is to be at 1 we stand waiting for our bus in the hot sun for about 30 mins. No explaination on why we are waiting so long we could have jumped across the street to Margaritaville for a drink! We head to Hell which we are given 10 mins at. I didn't get pictures I had enough time to jump in one shop buy a postcard to mail home, get passport stamped and use the bathroom! Go to the Rum Factory and have another 10 mins, not worth the stop it is a liquor store for run and a small gift shop you don't learn anything or see any 'distilling'. Off to the Turtles- Fabulous creatures- here we have 30 mins get to see big breeder turtles and hold dinner plate size turtles and board the bus again there was several places we did not get to go see as there was no time. Next off to the stingrays. We board a ship and wait 10 mins for the other bus to fill the boat no worries we still have time....We pull out and head to the bar it took 30 mins to get out there against the wind again no worries we should have an hour or so in the water....NOPE we get about 30 mins long enough for everyone to get pictures taken kissing and holding the rays and back on the boat. It took us an hour to get back to land with the wind pushing us because the captain of the ship slowed the boat so he could fish on the way back (he didn't even catch anything). Get into our buses and SPEED back to the boat weaving in and out traffic taking back road that scare me and arrive back at the port with 10 min to the 'last tender' to the ship! We didn't get to go shopping around missed getting the free charms etc! This one I complained to the desk about and was given a 25% discount on the excursion and was apologized to profusely! Word to the wise if you see these types of things take pictures! He asked if I had any photos of the captain fishing I didn't even think of it at the time. Read Less

Capt Marvins have been running the Sting Ray tour a long time. We booked last minute directly with them. Sent my husband with three of the kids since we had already done it before. Two got seasick on the boat after swallowing sea water , thankfully they had done the sting rays first. They had a good time though. I've been to Cayman three times before so the town is meh. I took a ride to the beach with some of our relatives and we just hung out there for the day. Would have enjoyed it more had there been less people at the beach. And even handled a situation very well when two boats docked on either side of use put us in danger as their people were jumping off the top decks into 3/4 foot water!!!! duh....The stingrays looked like they were super used to people and I don't believe they actually had stingers anymore I think they were cut..which is fine with me....we also wen't snorkeling on the trip..I have never ever gone. When I was uncomfortable the kid gave me a life preserver and told me that I would get the hang of using the snorkel and I did...they most importantly made sure we didn't kill the coral by touching it and they were masterful in handeling the stingray...they knew what they were doing ....and protected the careless people from getting hurt... We only booked one excursion - we did it on board - for some inexplicable reason, it was cancelled - we had a hard time tendering in at Grand Cayman due to the port authority's whims and maybe that's why - we did not know of the cancellation until we got off. Then we booked basically the same thing for a lot less. (Stingray & snorkel - US$40 as soon as you walk off, which was almost the same thing we wanted to pay $115 for... which is why we almost never book excursions from the boat.) Verdict for stingrays: Do It Yourself when you get off. Swimming with the stingrays was special - definitely a thing to do here. The snorkeling was also very good (right near the rays). Warning: Cayman generally is expensive: we had a light lunch near the tender port (not inside the arrivals holing pen area) - 5 alcobevs, 4 kids drinks, 5 starters = US$190 - ouch! Read Less

Grand Cayman we tendered to shore. I will address the tendering process later with embarkation disembarkation. The tour that I took was Natural Trail and Sting Ray City. It was a zoo at the dock, according to the guide, Carnival was supposed to come in earlier and they were late which caused the tours to deal with people from the Magic (Carnival largest ship class), HAL, Epic and another ship at the same time. The Carnival people would have been gone by the time we arrived. We arrived at the center and were told to join a group of people in front of us walking around looking at exotic birds. We then went to a building and were directed to a boat to transport to the sand area of Sting Ray City. The boats were bouncing around, way too many people in addition to boats. We got in some rough waves pushing you around but it was interesting to experience the rays. Honestly, I’m glad that this was my second experience with rays, my first was in Cozumel where you are in smaller groups and snorkel with the rays afterwards. I would not have learned much in this rough environment. Read Less

Last Day was at Grand Cayman and we went out on a Catamaran Sail to Sting Ray City. The tour was "Stingray Sailing Tours". Chip and his dad were gracious hosts. I had been here 20 years ago and there were only 2 boats out there. Now there were dozens so I thought it would be awful as my husband and kids had never seen this before. Chip got out there later than the other boats so as we pulled up many of them were leaving. He was so passionate about these marine animals that you wanted to help preserve them. He taught us how to feed them and even hold them ever so gently in the water. I have never laughed so hard for so long as there were stingrays everywhere. My 15 year old was scared of them until just before we had to get back on to the boat. Read Less

Our Stingray City excursion wasn't supposed to meet at the pier until 2:30pm in Cayman, so we jumped on the 1st tender & had plenty of time to shop in Georgetown & have some drinks at a couple of the bars. Once we all gathered at the pier, we were put onto a couple of buses and taken to the marina. Our boat was beautiful. It was a dinner cruise style boat, with curved windows covering our dining tables where we sat for the 20 minute ride to stingray city sandbar. We chose this excursion, because the boat had stairs that drop down into the water, making it easy to get on and off the boat as much as you want. We were provided snorkel gear, and our guides helped everyone touch, kiss, catch and feed the adorable stingrays. It was incredible. This was my 3rd time to Stingray City sandbar & this was the best tour we've been on so far. We've had a great time with Moby Dick & Captain Marvin, so I would highly suggest them as well, especially if you want to do more actual snorkeling at the reef and/or coral gardens. This excursion was for the sandbar only. It was great to know the ship would not leave without us if we were late, because our buses did actually arrive at the pier late, but there was a tender waiting for us and no risk of being left behind, since we were on a ship excursion. The tenders are a pain, but they are well organized and run non-stop. If you've booked an excursion through the ship, you show your ticket and walk directly to deck 1 to get on the 1st tender. You don't have to mess with meeting points like the tender tickets do. Read Less

We took an excursion to Stingray City followed by some snorkeling. I absolutely loved the natural sand bar where Stingray City is and I would have been more than happy to stay there the whole day. Finally, we got to see crystal clear, blue caribbean water which we hadn't seen at any of the other 3 islands. Interacting with the wild but docile stingrays was amazing and most memorable but I immensely enjoyed just swimming in the water. Totally loved it! We then got back on the boat and were taken to another place for snorkeling where the water was less clear and much more rough. We saw hundreds of fish and while that was nice, I really wish we could have just stayed at Stingray City. If you go to Grand Cayman, you must go to Stingray City. Read Less

It is a gross disgusting filthy turtle poo swimming pool. I felt so disgusted after I went in and came out. Instead have a bite to eat at the restaurant there. They have good food. I would not come back here.I felt bad for the turtles clamoring over each other just to get one pellet of turtle food.
