Who would have ever thought that climbing into a volcano filled with mud would be relaxing? Well, it is! In addition to your plunge into this marvelous mire, you will enjoy scenic views as you embark on your trek to this small but memorable volcano in Cartagena. Long taxi ride to the mud volcano with just my husband, driver and tour guide. Mud bath was an experience that should be experienced by everyone.

The mud field is a small area in an extremely poor village.Ther are loads of small children eager to guide you along the path. they call all the ladies beautiful and are of course looking for a dollar tip

A very unique experience--totally out of my comfort zone--but highly recommended just for the experience. You climb about 50 stairs to the top of the volcano and then descend by ladder into the mud. Go early so you have the volcano to yourself--at busy times they put 40 people in the mud at the same time. After about 30 minutes and massages by locals you climb the ladder out (which is very slippery) and then you are taken to the lagoon where local ladies wash off the mud. Generally this involves them taking off the suit--so be prepared and don't go with friends who you don't want to be naked in front of. Suggest going with a tour guide--because he advises you on who to tip and how much. The reason we booked independantly was because our cruise pulled the tour due to lack of interest.

The mud volcano was a very fun excursion. The cruise line did not offer it for our trip so we had to book it separately. We got great information about the city on the way out of town and got to see the countryside later in the drive. The mud was such a unique feeling and cool experience. It was relaxing and we could have stayed in there all day. We did stay in the small village at the volcano after we cleaned up to have a very authentic Colombian meal. The guide was also very flexible in allowing us to extend the time of the tour to include a tour of the Old City, and he was full of good recommendations for dinner and drinks later on since we had a late all-aboard.
