It was very nice but the description did not tell us much.
Sail Date: December 2018
It was very nice but the description did not tell us much. I assumed we'd be going to a sanctuary but after a 90 minute bus ride we ended us at a like where we took a boat to see 3 types of moneys in nature. It was nice.

Although the bus-ride to the start seemed interminable, once in the boat this was really good. We cruised the main Canal channel, then went into the mangroves & saw 3 species of monkey, crocodiles, lizards, a sloth & a number of bird species. BEWARE! ALL Panama excursions can get you to Colon some time before the ship. (We were lucky - ours didn't). Colon is a s**thole, so research the mall & perhaps head for the Renaissance Hotel - about 500 yards to the right (if you're looking out across the water) of where the ship moors. Read Less

My family and I were so glad that we decided to take the Panama Canal excursion. If we hadn’t, we wouldn’t have been allowed off the boat until we reached Colon, which is a pretty sketchy, uninteresting port that has little to offer in itself. Our tour began with a 90-minute trip in a comfortable, air-conditioned motorcoach to the boat launch for the jungle cruise. During the ride the guides crammed us, perhaps too much, with information about the Panama Canal. When we arrived at the launch, we separated into smaller boats, each with its own guide. The tour was fun. We got to see the Pacific side of the canal and to travel from island to island to look for wildlife. We were wildly successful! We saw white-faced capuchin monkeys, Titi monkeys, and Howler monkeys. In addition, we saw a sloth and a huge iguana along with many species of birds. The monkeys were surprisingly social. Some even jumped on our boat or walked down the sides searching for an easy meal. We had ample opportunities to photograph the monkeys. After the monkey tour, we boarded the bus again and were taken to the Colon terminal to meet our ship. Trust me, this excursion was much more exciting than a visit to sketchy Colon. Read Less

The Tour was actually "speed boat on the canal and Monkey eco-tour". First part was terrible. 2.5 hours bus drive, because they actually have you stop for 1 hour on a highway rest area. I suppose they need money for their investment in "clean toilets" (advertised on the highway !!). Not enough seats in the boat, my husband had to seat separately from us and we ended up being 5 in our row (4 life jackets - only 4 seats), where I sat with the tow kids and two other persons. They handed us horrible, nasty, super moldy life jackets. Thankfully the tour was actually nice and we ended up seeing monkeys who came to eat nuts from the kids hands. That was priceless. Return trip was only 1 hour (of course that's all that was needed without the rest area stop). Read Less

The monkey watch was fun, we saw many monkeys, and the guides were great. When we got back to the boat not much to do in a bad part of town, we told do not go in the city, too dangerous, and no shopping at all

An excellent experience for $99. A snack lunch was provided during the 1 1/2 hour drive to the boat dock. We were boarded 20 to a boat and set out at high speed for "Monkey Island." Saw many animals including crocodiles, toucans and, of course, monkeys. The Capuchins literally jumped into the boat for food that the guide had brought along. We were warned to let them take the food from our hands but not to try to touch them--they can be aggressive. Read Less

We were excited to take the Monkey Watch excursion and it didn't disappoint! After the bus ride, we got on to a small boat at Gamboa and went out into Gatun Lake and saw many of the ships that went into the locks before and after us (the was about half way across the country). Then the fun started as we turned down small streams and tributaries - first families of howler monkeys, and several capuchin monkeys - two even came onto our boat! We also saw several Snail Kites (large hawk sized birds) - very interesting to watch them, a crocodile, lots of other birds and butterflies. A very relaxing and interesting trip. The only suggestion would be it should be advertised as a 1 hour bus ride in each direction - at first, we thought we might have gotten on the wrong bus, but all's well that ended well.
