It was a short 4-sea day transit from Hong Kong to Singapore rather than a proper cruise, a short segment of the World Cruise. It falls on the Easter long weekend, and several hundred people embark from Hong Kong for the short ride without a shore day. Cunard operates the most formal type of cruise, of all cruise lines. Every dinner is dressy, one night formal and three nights informal (jacket required) without a casual night. This appeals to some cruisers, as the experience is akin to Titanic days. Cunard aims to provide the old 'white star' service and on Cunard if this is not perfectly achieved it does convey the good old time atmosphere. This is the first time I cruised on Queen Elizabeth (having cruise twice and 33 days on QM2 the last two years) and I like the ship almost as much. It is a beautiful ship in Art Deco style. The simple Britannia cabin was not bad, having tea making facility not found on most ships. The dinner service is formal and the food is good for a big ship (though Cunard price is higher than other big ships). Restaurant service is professional. The buffet is very good and there was a great display of Easter eggs on the Sunday night. The buffet lasts until 2am. If not luxury (if not on Grill) it is premium. Activities include the acclaimed Queens Room high tea in the traditional manner, and its ballroom dances...all these you do not find in other ships. It is a very civilized ship that even has a book shop on it. It was a good short transit, and while I took only a small segment, it gives me the impression that if I were to take a full world cruise Cunard would be my choice. The ship somewhat achieve a combination of big ship facility with an air of intimacy. Staff courtesy was good except my chamber maid evicted me from my cabin at exactly 8:30, and I note that she evicted everyone in my row of cabins while not working on the rooms...the next embarkation is the next day. Another hiccup was that it took 2 hours to embark a mere few hundred from Hong Kong, probably due to the land agent. Overall I was happy on this shortest cruise I have ever taken. Read Less

Ads say best staff, best food, however, food was great, staff especially cabin stewards didnt clean well, didnt speak good english to answer questions, carpets filthy, used vacs cheap carried germs cabin to cabin from exhaust not filtered. Put clean towels on toilet seat, used same cloth every cabin clean sinks, put it in bucket with toilet brush. Cafe staff took plates held by sick passengers and then took your plate passing germs all over ship. Many passengers got sick first week, more later. Strong chemicals used linens affected many people maybe mixed bleach and ammonia products produced breathing issues & coughing many people. Reception young not helpful at all. ads abt quality of staff lies, carnival! even better and ships cleaner. Back to celebrity and holland america where cabins clean, and staff helpful and well trained, most riveria staff not trained, useless. Entertainment sparse and workshops small enrollment couldnt get in. Unfriendly crew and staff mostly. Seemed nobody cared about passengers. Full of themselves and didnt know their jobs very well especially reception staff. Cabin stewards very dirty way to clean and unhealthy for passengers. Dusty, pollen filled cabins seemed long time since good thorough cleaning. Public rooms much better. Poor Hygiene issues rampant in terrace cafe handling your plates and everyone elses after you got them from buffet, and cabin cleaning barely surface only and created unhealthy environment in cabins.untrained in good hygiene cleaning cabin to cabin. Made people sick. 2nd week very obvious how many now sick and coughing. Seems most focus public rooms. Which many couldnt enjoy due to cabin hygiene issues making sick. Too many staff in terrace cafe every 5 min. a Different person interrupting ask if wanted water etc. Should assign stations. Very intrusive. Food was good, no one serving smiled. Speciality restaurant staff good. Dining room too intrusive constantly. Ships crew seemed to not like their jobs. Not happy or smiling. Store staff rude and never smiled either. Felt whole trip no connection with any staff which usually have on other lines. String quartet great, was only good entertainment other than piano and production musical. Overall very disappointed. Wont go oceania again suggest instead os so many high cost brochures sent out use money get good cleaning materials, and for training and hiring better qualified crew and staff. .too many cruises with too many sick people for a reason. Hygiene problems huge. Read Less

The embarkation went wonderfully – well organized and knowledgeable staff. It was quite rainy and windy on the morning of our disembarkation and we would have appreciated support with umbrella coverage to get into the terminal. The service and the dining are both amazing. We had access to for specialty restaurants with no additional charges. The main dining room was beautiful as was the buffet. We especially appreciated that all food was served and that clients could not reach over food to help themselves. No matter the venue, we found the food to be of exceptional quality and presentation. The ship is not glitzy, but classy and clean. Entertainment was a blend of good to excellent. Our cabin was nicely decorated and comfortable. It had enough storage in the closet and drawers to hold all of our things. We had a standard cabin with a small veranda. The space was well-designed and larger than most standard cabins. We could move around without bumping into each other or furniture. The bed was tastefully appointed and comfortable. The bathroom had a full size tub as well as a standalone shower stall. It was beautifully tiled. We did not take advantage of the ships short excursions but were very pleased with the ports of call. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that we would have access to full-time Internet service without additional charges. We were also aloud to bring our own wine on board. The staff was knowledgeable, well trained and professional. Overall a wonderful experience and we hope to enjoy it again soon. Read Less

They could have been more creative in the activity schedule Many activities repeated themselves and there seemed to be days at sea where I just wandered. The crowd was on the elderly side and as a result Most were in bed by 10 pm. Not much more than 5% of the ship were up and out after 10pm People were very friendly and we made new friends which was the highlight of the cruise. I would recommend the Riviera but make sure it is offering the type of vacation you are looking for Read Less

We chose our cruise because of the itinerary (French Polynesia & Hawaii) and were a little apprehensive due to the smaller ship. We were very happy with both. Planning to go again real soon. The staff especially the team of Joseph & Gidek (sic) our room attendants worked above and beyond to insure everything was perfect. We’ve been on a few other cruise lines and found Oceania a cut above the others in accommodations, service level and, by a wide margin, food and wine. With a total of 20 sommeliers on our ship, an emphasis on upsell on wine sales were evident. Room service at no added cost is nice benefit. We tipped with each delivery. Easter brunch was popular, 850 passengers attended. The Hawaiian Buffet is not to be missed. Our 18 day cruise had half of them at sea. casino tournaments actually didn’t have enough players to be held - but the ship had plenty of activities. Karliss the culinary instructor was popular and cheerfully shared his expertise. Daniel’s movie star smile seemed to be at every meal and Red Gingers Sasha was always super friendly. If you’re having more than 4 drinks a day, consider the drink package. The rest of ship was spotless clean. We plan to take another Oceania cruise soon. Non Voyage! Read Less

We love Oceania for its amazing service and outstanding food quality and variety. We've been sailing on Oceania for the past 15 years and just got off the Marina yesterday. This was an unusual itinerary since it had so many sea days (which we both love). We boarded the ship in Papette, visited 4 ports in French Polynesia and then sailed to Hawaii and visited 4 island ports there. We sailed 5 days from Kawaii to Los Angeles where we disembarked. We really enjoyed the ship's excursions. We did an excursion in every port. We enjoy nature, birds and photographing beautiful landscapes - we were not disappointed. The Pacific Ocean was as calm as a lake (we were quite lucky). We had perfect weather on every port day and all but one sea day. Our butler proved outstanding service - including room service breakfast on disembarkation day. We have booked a 30 day voyage August, 2019 sailing from London to NYC - visiting Iceland, Greenland and some of Europe. That will complete 31 Oceania cruises for us. Read Less

Wonderful ship, crew and the food was outstanding! Really is best cuisine at sea. All four of their specialty restaurants treat you like you're their only patron. I wish more cruise ships would do as Oceania does and cut out the self-service at the buffet. I love that we are served and we all are not handling the servicing utensils. I know this helps with germ control. Wonderful Easter service on board officiated by one of their entertainment crew-will always remember it! The entertainment the first week on board was mainly magicians, comedians. The last week they had a wonderful trombonist, singers and their entertainment staff boarded the ship in Hawaii. The last half of the cruise the entertainment was outstanding. The only thing I can think that needs to be improved is the private area for the suites on the sun deck. There were always very nice deck chairs available but you could not find shade anywhere. They should put some kind of partial shading for those of us who do not need any more sun . Our 21 Day Cruise aboard HAL's Amsterdam from Singapore to Cape Town was our best cruise ever. We have cruised many times on multiple cruise lines and have Elite Status on multiple cruise lines - so this is a significant statement. We knew prior to the beginning of our cruise that the Amsterdam would be going into dry dock in May, 2018 so we were very afraid that the condition of the ship would be poor. To our great surprise, the Amsterdam was quite the opposite. The Hotel Director, Henk Mensink (Dutch) is the best Hotel Director I have ever seen and takes great pride in his efforts to have his Team keep the Amsterdam in pristine condition at all times - even just before going into dry dock. Most of the ships we have sailed on which were about to go into dry dock had declined in condition - with several ships having very horrible conditions such as sewer problems, flooding problems, ratty carpeting, etc. This is why we were so pleased with the great condition of the Amsterdam. We were also favorably impressed with the Captain: Jonathan Mercer (British). The food on this cruise was excellent every day - as was the service, especially in the Lido. The quality of the entrees and desserts was great. Many options were available and never long wait lines in the Lido. The ship décor is classic and quite impressive. We are looking at more cruising opportunities aboard the Amsterdam and highly recommend this ship. Read Less

Starting with arrival and checking was a great experience for anyone looking for a great time. The variety of the food and the picnic at half moon cay was amazing. We did not use the cruse excursions but others and they were very good. Everything, was quiet impressive but Arsana services and care was my highlight, The guys that took care of the cabin were amazing, I ask for ice for my back one day and for that point on Arsana had ice for me every day. Arsana and Konang were absolutely above and be on expectations taking care of us. Enrike in the dining room was exceptional as well, all service areas were impressive. The cruise was excellent, almost everything, I though that all entertainment was targeting one age group but other than everything else was amazing. Its the only way to see the Chilean coast inlets and scenery short of having your own boat. There are no roads or habitation in most of the areas we visited. Excursions by zodiac to see wildlife and glaciers were amazing. The ship was small by cruise ship standards but was therefore able to sail in confined fiords and through narrow passes. The food and service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The ships captain was informative and approachable. The company issued everyone with appropriate clothing which was just as well because that part of the world has heavy weather at most times of the year. If you needed items of clothing or spares for your photography the ships shop was well stocked. Improvements are possible in some detailed areas. The graphic display of the ships position was poor. The exterior of the window could have been cleaned. Read Less

Lima is the worst embarkation experience ever. Our transfer dropped us off a Oceania pickup point filled with hucksters trying to help us with our bags. We were lucky when we got on the Oceania coach to take us to the ship. There were only two of us. The competition with shipping trucks was chaos. The backup for the port security guard to check our passport and sift through disorganized paperwork to find our name took and inordinate amount of time. Imagine the later coaches FILLED with passenger. The back up was horrible. My wife has special dietary restrictions. It took a third of the cruise before the came close to meeting her needs. The ship is tired and outdated. We went on the Basic City Tour Excursion in Iquique in the Atacama Desert. Oceania put 25 elderly passengers coming from winter in North America on an UNAIRCONDITIONED bus with temps in the high 80 in the . By the time we got to town, I was soaked with sweat. I told the tour guide he needed to get the bus fixed. We did a walk around and a tour of a museum and palace. When we met up with the bus, it was not fixed. I bailed on the excursion and walked back to take the shuttle back to the ship. I complained at the excursion desk. After a non-committal initial response, Oceania sent a second written reply giving us a 25% refund. HOW GENEROUS, he said facetiously. There was so much right and wrong about the cruise. When you can't use the toilet in your cabin and they can't get your wife's food correct, it spoils the whole cruise experience. Our previous experience on the Oceania Marina was entirely different. My final word for Oceania is this. Viking Ocean cruises is coming for you with a fleet a brand new ships and a base cabin that is better than this ship's veranda cabin. The days with you can compete with an outdated ship and an inferior cabin (bathroom) design ARE NUMBERED. The word is going to get out. A 'luxury cruiseline'. Not on this ship. Read Less

Absolute thrill to spend 3 days on-bard the Queen Elizabeth from Sydney - Brisbane. Fabulous food, beautiful state-room. Stunning, commisioned works of art. Incredible/wonderful décor and design. Loved the Art deco style evidenced throughout the ship. A truly unforgettable experience. I walked the passageways for the three days transfixed by the surroundings. Every turn produced something extraordinary. A wonderful painting or sculpture, a beautiful dining experience, incredible inlaid timber, beautiful furnishing/furniture/etched glass alcoves. The ship was remarkably stable. Leaving Sydney Harbour on the night of our departure was unforgettable. With A Caribbean-style band playing and the Bridge and Opera House as a backdrop the experience was excitement plus. The only gripe I have is the waiting time to book for future cruises. We were on board for just three days and would have loved to have had the time to sit and plan another cruise before we dis-embarked. The Cruise section was open for a limited time each day with lengthy delays and long queues of passengers enquiring about further cruises. I had three visits before I was able to speak to a Booking agent. She gave us a fabulous deal on a 2019 cruise but the route/ports of call didn’t suit us. The Cruise Office on board the Q.E. had two only Reps. and with a short duration cruise we didn't have the chance to sit thoroughly explore further options. The Dining experience was outstanding. The stewards in both the Lido Buffet Restaurant and the Brittania restaurants were exceptional. The choice of food/quality/the diversity of meals/the freshness and range were superb. We chose the cruise because of the itinerary. Unfortunately, a number of people became ill early on and we were on red alert for 9 days! Not the fault of the cruise line, who handled the problem extremely well, but it didn't help with the overall enjoyment of the cruise. The staff were super and friendly. The food in Red ginger was super flavourful and our favourite. However, twice I was sick after the dinner, most probably due to contamination from gluten (I am celiac) although the staff tried very hard, there is definitely an undetected ingredient. But the food in the main dining room was very spotty! Generally the appetizers were outstanding, the soups completely uninspiring, the salads ok, the vegetables boring (steamed broccoli and cauliflower! ) and the meat usually overcooked or undercooked! People we met after it was over said this was their 5th Oceania cruise and definitely the lowest quality of food preparation of them all. Read Less

We have sailed with several companies and overall decided as we were going to be on board for 52 nights on P&O because it is less formal than some, although the food choice is more limited than others. We had a fabulous time and generally everyone on board was extremely helpful and polite. The entertainment was excellent with very interesting lectures and port reviews. We found that the excursions offered something for everyone. Just a few words of warning! If you are embarking in Brisbane, be warned that their are 2 ports and if you get it wrong, it will cost you over £100 in taxi fares! No one seems to know this and several of the P&O staff told us that everybody goes to the wrong port!!!! Well, having paid £100 to get to the right port, we did not see the funny side. Having got over this, the staff were so helpful and friendly, but our rating will be low. Our cabin balcony, D117, left a lot to be desired. Not only was it not clean on our arrival and nor did it get cleaned for our trip, but on several days, it smelt so badly that we could not open the door. We complained several times but were given different stories, such as, it depended which way the wind was blowing/the life boats smelt etc. Finally, we investigated ourselves, found a vent on Deck 3 from an 'engine' room, asked a passing engineer and found that this was the problem. We then reported this back and were given £100 off our bill! We do not get the feeling that this will be investigated anytime soon. And finally and this actually upset us the most! Having had a fabulous relationship with our cabin steward, on the last night of our trip, he took it upon himself to remove our remaining personal items from the cupboards so he could clean the cabin for the next passengers who would be joining the following day. Now on several levels this cannot be right. 1. We paid for that night. 2. That doesn't seem very hygienic as we are still using the cabin and 3. We do not appreciate our toiletries etc. being placed in our bags. We have complained, twice about this, but have heard nothing back, hence our comments here. Not good enough. P&O, we can forgive certain things and we do think you are brilliant overall, but PLEASE LISTEN when we report a problem. Sometimes, it's not what goes wrong that causes anxiety, it's the way it's dealt with. Hence rating underneath. Read Less

Trip to Tjong A Fie Mansion was disastrous as I got separated from the main group and nobody knew where our bus was. We also left San Francisco 2/5/18 for Sydney on Q2. The Itinerary was great, the Ship clean, and the crew professional. However, with a number of 4-5 day stretches at sea, one would expect some professional entertainment and varied daytime activities. During the day your choice was basically the library, a very small pool, or boring lectures. At night, the entertainment was dull and amateurish. To make matters worse, the food rarely varied, and was of poor quality-- both at the buffet and formal dining room. (e.g. how hard is it to make a decent cup of coffee and a good omelet?) You could hammer nails with the round pieces of hardened dough they were passing off as bagels. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and NCL are far superior on all counts. To make matters worse, by the time we reached Sydney most of the passengers were infected with the "Cunard Cough", as named by the physician we saw in Sydney who had his hands full telling passengers that codeine might suppress the cough, but the viral illness would persist for up to six weeks. (His prognosis was right on target). Finally, while the crew was very polite, many of the Brit passengers onboard were not. Many were particularly rude to Yanks, and thought nothing of lecturing all of us on the evils of America. A few were even disrespectful at the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. Read Less

We chose it for the Maldives and Kerala, India on the itinerary. We didn’t see enough of the Maldives and we were dropped off at an island with lots of plastic and trash after having the permission for another island revoked. We understand those things can happen but a good option would be nice for plan B. We were frequently late to destinations and rushed around to get back and sail to the next place. Many passengers felt like a three hour boat tour on the canals was too long with a long drive each way to get there. The general consensus was that lunch at the Gallery Cafe in Cochin was pretty bad. One of the islands took a 55 minute zodiac ride each way and the water was murky so not great for snorkeling. There wasn’t hardly any free time to wander so people felt way too restricted and regimented. There could have been some interesting talks on the history of Kerala and Galle considering there were two historians on board. The expedition Crew seem to be very knowledgable but didn’t have as many opportunities to speak when there was plenty of time at sea. The spa services were very good! The crew on board was excellent and did a fantastic job. Dinner was very good, lunch could be better. We wanted to see the Maldives and Indian Ocean islands, thought we would snorkel every day in beautiful water. ( Water was beautiful) However this did not happen, excursions were not planned well, so we spent most of our days on an old ship with little amenities! we got to snorkel 2 times, for 45 minutes. Nothing for the other 9 days. Food and service was good. We had OBC to spend, but there was nothing in gift shop to buy ! The fitness center is a cubicle, they offered massages in an empty guest room, only 5 people could use pool at any one time, only 10 lounges for 90 plus guests. Total experience was very poor when supposed to be 5 Star Luxury cruise and we were charged a 5 Star price. Even though we bought our air and transfers from Silver Sea, they did not make arrangements for us to be picked up from the hotel to get to the ship. We (and 12 other couples ) had to transport our own luggage in the pouring rain onto and off the public pier and public ferry to get to where the ship was picking us up. Never have we been treated like this. There was no apology or reason given for our poor service, our tour leader just said, "he was having a bad day!" Read Less

These suites were created when the ship was refurbished in October. 14 days before we were due to step on board our agent was told by Crystal that due to electrical problems the Sea Breeze suites required repairs and we had been upgraded to a Penthouse Suite on Deck 10 under the pool deck. Our agent knew that after 25 years of regular cruising there are locations of a ship that we would not accept even if free. Under the pool deck is one area. Upgrade rubbish - suite size the same, fare the same and services to the suite the same. We asked if we cancelled would there be a penalty. Yes there would be no refund and read the small print we,Crystal, have the right to change the suites. We had also taken a 3 day pre cruise hotel package in Mauritius. Two days before flying out to Mauritius we checked the weather to discover the island was about to be hit with a category 3 (severe) cyclone and all air travel was cancelled to and from the island. We telephoned Crystal in Sydney and identified ourselves with the booking number etc. The voice at Crystal told us that they had no official notice of any Cyclone and they would only talk to our travel agent. Hello a cruise ship capable of holding 848 passengers heading into a cyclone forecast area and they did not know that fact. Does anyone in Crystal tell the truth? The coach from the hotel to the ship was a shambles. We arrived after 1.30 pm so lunch was not available - part of the service was suppose to be a champers lunch, which no one knew about. When we arrived on board we were told that deck 9 was closed due to flooding. Hello the ship must have great scuppers (drains) if only deck 9 was effected. When we told the Concierge that our concern with the Penthouse Suite was noise from the pool deck we were told they had never had a complaint about noise. Hello again. The now have one. For the next 14 days we had foot steps over our heads from around 7 am to 10 pm or later. Furniture was dragged across the deck. From time to time heavy trolleys trundled across the deck. At 5 pm the staff rearranged the sun lounges by moving them into position and dropping them. We complained to the Concierge and the time moved to 9 pm. When the deck was hosed down in the early hours of the morning we had the benefit of an early wake up call. On the second day we became aware that there were only 380 passengers on board, so that really explains why deck 9 was closed. The climax of the treatment we received came on day 5 when we discovered that the on board of US$1200 was not on our account. You had to spend that on board. Yes, we do read the fine print. After a meeting with the Chief Accountant it took another 2 days before the credit was put onto our account. Although the web site sets out the service to the suite we had to ask for such service each time. We only have a butler because we select the better accommodation and the butler comes with such accommodation. On the ship the Butler did not offer any service. On day one there were no canapes. Afternoon tea was never suggested etc. Service in the dining areas was initially very good but fell away in the last 7 days to poor. Read Less
