Cruise of Lies, Missed Ports, and Mishaps

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Norwegian Getaway

This was a nightmare cruise from start to finish. Long lines at embarkation and NCL eliminated priority for Gold Members...only platinum and platinum plus. We entered our cabin to find blood stains on our duvet and old, yellowed, pilled bedding. The bedding was changed after I complained, but it should not have been in service. On day 3 we both got severe food poisoning. Yes, it was definite ...

Recently my wife and I went on a transatlantic cruise on the "getaway" ... it was the cruise from hell (no need to take my word for it just read reviews of anyone who actually took this cruise ) ... we always book a "mini-suite" the (smaller than normal) suite on this ship is nothing more than a balcony room ... the balcony is barely large enough for 2 small chairs ... we were suppose to visit 6 ...

Relaxing and disappointing

We chose this cruise because of the ports of call. Unfortunately, due to weather and ship problems, we were not able to see the Azores or Belgium. VERY DISAPPOINTED. However, these things could not be controlled. Just part of cruising. We did make Brest, France and went on a NCL tour. I have to say that this was the MOST disorganized disembarkation I have ever been on (all cruise lines ...

It was a good trip and a fine experience with some hiccups...

You can read through the other transatlatic reviews for a detailed recap of what happened - the quick summary is that we missed 2 ports (one due to weather, one due to a mechanical problem), and had some issues with lines and customs clearances getting on and off the ship. Yes, it created some issues, and yes it called for revising itineraries and plans ashore, but that's just how it goes - ...

3rd and Last Transatlantic for me on NCL

I chose this cruise because my husband and I had a lovely experience with a Transatlantic crossing on the NCL Star in 2013. Bad choice! The ship's decor is lovely, not garish and over the top like some cruise lines. The downside is that on a cooler weather cruise, without outdoor activities, the public areas can't accommodate the amount of people onboard. There were almost always waits to ...

Getaway Transatlantic Crossing (and not much else)

My wife and I chose this cruise because of the transatlantic crossing and specifically the ports of Zeebrugee and Ponta Delgada. Unfortunately we missed Ponta Delgada due to high winds and sea but because of a technical issue slowing our speed, Zeebrugee was also canceled. We were also over 4 hours late getting into Southampton which when coupled with over 5 hours to get through UK ...

NCL Service Worst Ever

This cruise was HORRIBLE. NCL is focused only on profits and not customer experience. Once they have your money they ignore you. To summarize A: we were to stop at 5 European ports before our arrival in Copennhagen, we only made 1 of the 5. B: The leadership team repeatedly lied to customers and were arrogant. C: They have cut almost every amenity, and you now have to pay extra for ...

Freshly Refurbished Jade

We chose this cruise because we live just south of Tampa and had yet to use this port since moving down here five years ago. We love transatlantic cruises and this was our first time doing it eastbound. The bonus for us was that the Jade had just gone through a refurbishment, and we wanted to see what had been done. Pictures of the old ship were not promising, but we were happy to see that NCL ...

Somewhat Disappointing Cruise

This was our 9th cruise with Norwegian and our 1st time we have experienced any issues!  We were disappointed that we had to miss our first port, Ponta Delgada due to high seas but understood.  This however was only the beginning of disappointments we faced.  At next port, Brest France there were issues with the tides interrupting the disembarkation process as the steps had to be moved to a higher ...

Norwegian Getaway - Not a Getaway

This was our first TA cruise. 6 days at sea turned out to be 10. Porta Delgada was cancelled due to high winds, major disaster with disembarkation/embarkation in Brest (talk about walking the plank, that's what literally happened). Immigration problems in Southampton prevented passengers from disembarking until about 2.30 p.m. Captain received approval to stay until midnight but that proved ...
