Very Different Silverseas Experience

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Silver Explorer

Where to begin...We have gone on 10 Cruises with Silverseas and have always been satisfied..but this was totally different. If you are not the explorer / outdoors type of person then maybe you should not do this cruise. Here is my blow-by-blow account: The charter from Buenos Aires was a ridiculous ordeal. So we are on a high-end cruise and they have all passengers on a required charter that ...

The last few holidays, we have traveled Cunard and loved it. Wanting to embark from the U.S., we decided to give Silversea a try. The marketing suggested upscale and the price certainly reflected upscale. From the outside things looked pretty great. Once we stepped into the cabin, we got a surprise. Start with stains on the floor, drapes, and outer bed blanket. Friends offered to cut the frazzles ...

GREAT ITINERARY

Review for a South America Cruise on Zaandam

Old and tired ship.Had problems with air/heating, cold and hot water and a "flooded" cabin. These were truly inconveniences as it was an incredible journey around South America to Antarctica! Food was at best, mediocre in selection and consistently served cold or lukewarm. Christmas goose entree was served cold and so tough it had to be sent back. The wine steward was rude and loud. In ...

Mostly Good; Some Annoying Points

Review for a South America Cruise on Norwegian Sun

Embarkation wasn't the quickest, but OK. Cabin was very clean and had plenty of storage, didn't like the shower curtain it had a habit of sticking to you. Had a balcony cabin and the chairs were not comfortable to sit for any length of time. Air con in the cabin was weak to say the least. Entertainment was good, never got a minute to ourselves there was always something to do and the ...

Not What They Used To Be

Review for a Trans-Ocean Cruise on Seven Seas Mariner

We did our very first cruise on Regent when it was known as Radisson. We did about 7 cruises with them and loved every minute of every cruise. It has been 5 years since we have sailed on the Mariner, and unfortunately, we have to say it just wasn't the same. The cabin was beautiful and the ship and most of the staff great. However, it was sort of obvious that they are cutting some ...

Panama Canal and South America cruise

Review for a South America Cruise on Celebrity Infinity

We are a fan of Celebrity Cruises and we were looking forward to our Panama canal to Valparaiso, Chile. 15 day cruise. Honestly we were very dissppointed, this cruise on our estimate was nothing like our previous cruises on Celebrity. We had been on the Millenium a few years ago and really enjoyed it, but the Infinity even it had gone through a refurbishment was not up to par, on some ...

Food was great with tons of variety. We got tired of going to the 'trough' after a few days so went to the two different sit down complimentary restaurants so that provided a much needed break. Never had any issues with the quality and variety of food. Staff everywhere except the front desk were incredibly nice and helpful. Always smiling and eager to help. Only negative experience with any ...

We departed from San Diego and hit two Mexican ports, Guatemala and Costa Rica before reaching Peru. It was Early November, hot and humid but since we are avid birdwatchers we managed to pull in a few lifebirds (birds we had never seen before). Just be prepared for the heat. Peru was very interesting from a cultural and historical standpoint. The ports are industrial working ports and not user ...

Disappointing

Review for a South America Cruise on Norwegian Sun

Embarkation was an absolute FIASCO! People were directed into the wrong lines to pay a fee for entry into Argentina. We were not told in advance that there would be a fee of $160/person on top of the fares and fees we had already paid! Hundreds of passengers (mostly seniors) lined up for hours to use 2 computers to register and pay the fee. No water, no seating. Computer forms were in ...

We took a re-positioning cruise from San Diego CA to Santiago (Valparaiso) Chili. We purchased a good deal for a balcony room. We visited ports in Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Peru and Chili. This was our first cruise (over 20) where it was virtually impossible to take public transportation or low cost group travel to any meaningful tourist sites. Really difficult if not impossible to set ...
