Very long lines. 3 Promised responses never occurred. They handed me a bistro gift certificate with no documentation, I had An American Express bistro free use also. I asked If this was a duplicate they said no. I used It, they charged me and other Family room purchased $69. Would never let me talk with customer service mgr. they asked me if I took Names and if I had Proof, insinuating I made this. My daughter from adjacent room was called a liar. Geez! I finally got unsatisfactory answer last night of trip. No time to appeal and lines were 20 people deep. Previous agents didn’t reply correctly. Command of English poor. Customer service put bad taste for Norwegian I said, you gave me no choice but to remove gratitude. They said fine. Customer service didn’t care for norwegian employees who do a nice job Don’t expect solitude with open balconies, noisy music, pulsating base. All pool chairs taken, reserved early all day This was my 2nd cruise on Norwegian. 1st was good, so I booked 2nd. I’ve cruised at least 25 times. Customer service ruined it with wasted hours of lines etc Read Less

Geez where do I start. This was our 8th cruise on Disney. For Halloween, they only brought out 4 characters for 2 hours dressed in Halloween attire. The first day and rest of second we’re in traditional attire. The 4 characters were Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Goofy- no villains. Trick or treat was at 2p for 30 mins at 7 stations on Deck 3,4. Trick or treat bags were delivered to rooms but many did not not receive them. The cruise line seems like they are getting really cheap. We use to receive a welcome letter from Cast a way club when we arrived in our room Day 1- or any more. In the past we always sailed Concierge. We always felt the services were below par so this cruise we were in a 4a room which was so small with a tiny shower for a short person. On a past cruise we saw the Concierge attendant come down with a group of guest and let them off first for Walk off. They filed to tell us about this and we were knee deep in a crowd waiting to get off. Sadly, the same happened on this cruise to a concierge guest waiting disembark for walk off. At the same time I was telling her family what happened to us, the concierge attendant comes down with a group of guests and let’s them off while they were waiting in line. I also noticed none of the concierge guest had a lithograph. Disney has gotten so controlling and cheap. The first day there were only 2 characters in the lobby. We did not relieve tip sheet and comment card until 10p the night before we disembarked. The ship was still showing Golden Mickey (zzzzzz) and Frozen. No music acts. Time for a change. Read Less

We are NCL Platium members, having sailed on many NCL ships. We booked the Bliss as its a new ship. First 4500 passangers is too big especially for the ship's resources. The crew was unahppy and unfriendly and it showed it everywhere (there were 4 staff exceptions only - Cruise Director, Joseph in Smokehouse and 2 Cruisenext staff)). Managers were always frowning and disapproving. The restaurants were booked before the cruise and we had to wait to get in and then it was 5:15 or 8:15. I will commend the La Bistro and Teppenyacci as the quality I expect on an NCL ship. The rest was mediocre. The ship had 1 pool for 4500 guests. Smaller ships have 2 pools -downsized for a bigger ship - why? There other NCL ships and a pool side grill - this ship has taken that out and replaced with with Margarettaville for $ 14.95 for a burger that is free in the buffet Prohibition was a fun show. Jersey Boys which was closing after this cruise had medicore voices at best. Havana was as amateur as I have ever seen except 1 bearded dancer and the 2 female singer leaders who were really good. This ship was over crowded everywhere. The staff pushed the buffet for meals as the other restaurants were overwhelmed. Do yourself a favor and look for a smaller ship than this ship which was big enough to fail. Read Less

We are european cruiser. We love especially very long cruises (world cruises) 6 to 40 weeks. It was our first (and last) cruise by Princess Cruises. It was a 6-week combined cruise (3 single trips behind each other). The first 3 weeks was great. Than beginning the provocations (look down). Embarkation Vancouver very slowly (2 hrs.) and not professionel. Staff at guest relations counter incompetent. Cabin very nice, included services great, daily minibar refilled, daily fruits. Dining at the restaurants finest, restaurant staff great. Entertainment mediocre. Disembarkation well prepared and fast. Ship Star Princess and service staff very good and imposing. Security staff and officers incompetent and unkind. They still have to learn that the guest expects friendliness and courtesy. Service staff friendly and hardworking. All officers onboard Star Princess are lazy and ignorant. European guests are not welcome. An officer (from uk) attacked us physically and verbally insulted us WITHOUT ANY REASON. He touched me and he pushed me and he roars without reason. I ask him for his name and he roars again. Another (female) ships officer was a witness but later did not testify truthfully to the captain. Report to president jan swartz at the princess cruises headquarters in santa clarita. After the end of the trip, we demanded no financial compensation for the officer's attacks , but merely an apology. In order to avoid having to deal with the complaint, Princess Cruises' headquarters in Santa Clarita simply called my wife and me "attackers" and refused any further correspondence. The leaders of Princess Cruises in Santa Clarita have no conscience and no decency. And the British officer is too cowardly to apologize. Result: Paid $ 40,000 for a total of 6 weeks horror trip on MV Star Princess. NEVER AGAIN Princess Cruises! Aggressive, deranged officers and mendacious management at headquarter. Read Less

Wanted a quick, close getaway; so saw Princess Cruise to Cabo. After only cruising on Disney Cruise Lines, we had high expectations that deflated after check-in on Princess. The ship is decorated out of the 70's, complete with hair dryers that are still mounted to the wall over your desk and probably have a 300 Watt capacity, that's only after you wash your hair with again a mounted shampoo/conditioner combo in your shower that makes your hair feel like straw. Dining should be an experience, well anything in the dining room you could get/see at your local Denny's. One night I ordered pasta w/clams, oh my received a fruit bowl of pasta with two clams the size of dimes on top. Poolside was the only bright spot of our cruise. Complete with movies, sports or trivia on the big screen. Bar poolside, with only a pizza kiosk that served raw pizza dough or hamburger, hot dog kiosk that served my best meal on the trip. Staff, some are nice & helpful. The majority were rude, walk up to the pool bar instead of greeting and say we'll be right with you - they choose to ignore you. Entertainment was enjoyable, dancers, comedian, etc. Nice music in lounges to enjoy & relax. Cabo was a fiasco, you have to tender; which we have done many times. Only with Princess, it took over 2 hours to get into a tender - that blew the day! Waiting seems to be Princess's way, in dining to tendering. Very disappointing! We gave Princess a try, never again. I went with a large party of 30--lots of kids. The waiters and room service people were awesome. And we tipped them well. However, Carnival is cheap for many reasons. Super tacky decor. Always trying to make money off of you, whether it's interrupting you everywhere you go to take a photo, or shore excursions. Their best price guarantee is worthless, as you must have booked, found a cheaper excursion, and submitted the form 7 days prior to even getting on the boat. (There are definitely the same excursions for half the price!!!) Not only that, but they advertise this best price guarantee while you are on the ship, even though you can't possibly get any money back. I spoke to at least 10 different people about this refund and none of them told me it wasn't possible to get, as I booked our excursions on the cruise. They lied before I booked, as I booked, and after I booked. The first time they mentioned the "7 days prior" rule was three weeks after the cruise, after they directed me to four different emails. Either they are super unorganized or intentionally deceitful. Food was decent, and it's a fun, relatively cheap way to travel. However, because of their TERRIBLE customer service, I will never go with Carnival again. Read Less

We arrived 30 minutes earlier than our check in time but the let us board. After showing home printed boarding pass and passport, we boarded without any lines. We carried our own luggage and went straight to Lido deck to eat lunch where the had buffet as well as Guy's burger and mexican food. Guy's burger was delicious and we came back multiple times. Our stateroom steward was very friendly every time we saw him and did great job of cleaning our room as well as provide us a different towel animal each day. At Catalina Island, we decided to stay on board since we've been there multiple times and not much to do there. This worked out good so very little people/crowds on board and thus were able to explore the ship and do mini golf. We gambled black Jack and Cash crane game and lost money but not too much. Dinner at Carnivale dining room was great with many different selection of menu items. We were able to order multiple appetizers, main course, and dessert. The service from dining staff was fabulous which included the dancing entertainment. We enjoyed playing Carnival Tower with large Jenga pieces and large dice. The nightly entertainment was great. The main shows (Studio VIP, and other shows) at Paris Lounge was spectacular. The Punchliner Comedy club was good although we sometimes could not understand or hear John Caponera jokes because he talked a bit fast. Jamie Lissow was geat comedian. I waited in line to get sandwich at Carnival Deli just before closing at 11pm and without the deli cook saying anything, he closed up area and then left which was very rude. I should have complained to his manager. We paid Wifi Internet Online Value Plan and first 2 days was just ok but the 3rd and 4th day was horrible and useless. We complained at Guest service on last evening at Guest Services and they were nice enough to refund the $41 Wifi charge to my CC since it was pre-paid. We went to Art auction and won a raffle for a choice of 1 of 4 different pieces of art prints but had to pay $35 shipping which was ridiculously expensive. We then made the mistake of purchasing a Thomas Kinkade art print for $200 which was overpriced after returning home and researching it. We could not research Park West Gallery's negative review while on board because of the bad wifi. The day we debarked, I tried to call Park West customer service to cancel this order but gave up after waiting an hour on the phone. It's ridiculous to pay 15% cancellation fee. They better not charge 15% cancellation fee on $35 shipping charge. The next day, I called again and waited for almost an hour to talk to a customer service rep but she was unable to find my invoice # and stated to call back again a few days later but I was never able to speak to a customer service representative again because of the very long wait on the phone. I also emailed their customer service email but never received response. Only after posting negative Yelp review did I get a response to send email to a different Park West customer service email address to which they finally responded stating they will cancel my invoice and process refund through Carnival. But a few days later, I got email stating that my order is being processed. I will now dispute the original Carnival cruise charge on my credit card. My wife paid $33.50 for 2 yoga classes and 1 Pilate class. The Carnival Fun Times showed the Yoga classes but not show the Pilate thus she missed Pilate class. We tried to explain to the Spa manager that they need to include Pilate class on Carnival Fun Times like Yoga classes but she blamed Carnival management. My wife spoke to Carnival manager who then blamed Spa manager for not telling Carnival to include Pilate class. This was disappointing to see both parties blame each other at the expense of us paying for service we did not receive. We will never attend Carnival spa ever again. We should have asked for a refund. Read Less

I believe my experience on the 3 day Carnival Imagination (June 21-June 24 '18) was shaped by my previous experience on the 7 day Carnival Splendor (Feb 24- March 3 '18). My first experience set the bar because I honestly had an amazing time. Everything was great minus a couple things but not enough to change my view of the trip/experience. However, sailing on the Imagination was a nightmare and has led me to rethink any future trips with this cruise company. I will also express to my colleagues and friends my experience in hopes of saving them money and agony of a sub-par experience. The cruise line can truly benefit from having a strong level of consistency and continuity. I endured the following issues on my most recent cruise; as again this was a total opposite experience than my last sailing with carnival: 1. My stateroom was awful. Not cleaned properly and they put the third bed under a table you could not stretch your legs out underneath unless you were 50lbs. The bathroom was not properly cleaned. There were urine stains all over the toilet seat/toilet and shower had soap scum/dirt on the shower floor which can be removed if cleaned properly. ( I used personal gloves, bleach wipes and Clorox spray to clean it properly for my personal use) 2. The food selection at the buffet was very slim and was soggy and cold when being served during dining hours. Hours of the very few food places available where not long enough. 3. The staff aboard the ship was not pleasant nor eager to assist. They presented poor attitudes and an unwillingness to go the extra mile to ensure guest are happy. 4. They didn't allow realistic time frame for activities and games. Also, games were ran by staff who appear to not be engaged with a "I just want to get this over with attitude." They would rush through games and tell us that time is running out so either we can go faster or they would just have to stop the game when the 30 mins was up. (On the Splendor we did not have time restraints, everyone was able to enjoy the game and see it through. Staff was patient on the Splendor) 5. The barista at the coffee cart was very inflexible and unable to provide the customer service required to meet the needs of the patrons. When asked to make certain simple drinks that were being described, the barista responded with "This is not Starbucks". All the patron asked for was a mocha. That requires espresso (which they have), chocolate sauce (which they have), milk (which they have), and whipped cream (which they have). How hard is that. 6. My stateroom did not have a room service menu and after three calls it was not delivered and had not been delivered by the end of the trip. 7. The television in my stateroom did not receive channels that were clear and functioning. Also the remote did not work and after several attempts the staff was unable to sync a remote to the television for late night viewing. 8. The formal dining area lacked the attention and service, again that I received on the Splendor. They served food that was cold and after each course failed to completely clear the table. There were crumbs, sauces and things all over the table but they continued to drop plate after plate. When they delivered the dessert menu, no one came back to take my order but instead brought me whatever they felt they wanted to bring. 9. It was very hard to communicate with a lot of the staff as a lot of the staff was not fluent in English. Repeating words like Yes and No is not a form of communication that is effective nor efficient. 10. The sewer smell throughout this vessel was horrific. I found myself heaving every time I arrived on U deck and in some areas throughout the ship. 11. During sail away they did not have the Sail Away Party on the Lido deck. It was dry and boring. No entertainment coordinator or hype man to get the crowd going. I could go on but I am tired. Will try booking with Princess or Norwegian next. This cruise is like a yellow taxi ride.; overpriced with bad service. Read Less

I've cruised many times before, but it had been many years since the last one, so I figured this was an excellent one to try. I was a Carnival fan, it had a great price on this cruise out of a port I could drive to, and I love the Mexican Riviera. Oh, and it left on my birthday - match made in heaven. Embarkation went smooth. Parking was easy, although there were employees helping direct people to their cars while we were heading to get on, so I think some were confused and sent us the wrong direction once, thinking we were leaving the cruise.....but I ignored that and found out where to go on my own. Once in the main building though, it was a breeze, and fast too. I was traveling FTTF, so I got to sit in the rear section, right outside of the diamond guest lounge. Getting onboard was also easy, and we were on the ship in no time. Here's the big turning point. So with FTTF, you're supposed to have access to your room as soon as you board. Your room key/sign&sail card should be ready. Ours was not. Everyone around us had keys in their door....we did not. So, I decided to not let it bother me much because maybe they just didn't get to it yet but almost were. Went to have food. An hour and a half later, came back to check, and there is still no key. So there went perk #1 from FTTF. I had to go wait in the guest services line next, and that is never a pleasure on that first day. Oh, and no separate line for FTTF guests either (perk #2 gone), so I stood in line as like #13 or so. Well, I told them the room didn't have a key when I got on (they said it should have been....but saying that doesn't make it so it was, not sure why they told me that it was supposed to be since I kinda knew it was), then asked if we waited longer. I said I already waited an hour and a half, checked, and there was no key. So she said she would just print them there and ignore the keys that show up later because they are now inactive. Btw, those keys never actually showed up. So we get into the stateroom, 8308, balcony. So I had ordered two beach towels to be in there for us, and also my partner had ordered the birthday package (decorations, a cake, and a towel), and also another order had been made for me that I didn't know about, another cake. The only things in the room were the decorations and 1 towel, one of the ones I ordered. So missing were 2 towels (one from my order, one from the birthday package), and a cake (and actually 2 cakes, which I didn't find out until later). Oh, and the sink was broken, and the room was kinda/sorta dirty from old stains and even some warping/chipping on the ceiling and wall from water damage. I'll upload photos if there's an option for that. Anyways, had to go back to guest services and wait in an even longer line now. Told them I was missing a towel and a cake. They checked, and asked what was in the room. They told me, "Oh, you're actually missing 2 towels and 2 cakes." I had no idea where this second cake was from, but said ok, and they said they would have them in my stateroom very soon, sometime in the next couple hours. Cool. Later, both towels appeared finally, but only 1 cake. I found out later from a family member that my sister had ordered me a surprise cake for my stateroom, so that's where the second cake cake from. It didn't ever show up that night. So the next day, I had to go back in line again, and tell them that I was still missing a cake. This time, it showed up sometime later in the day. But that was a huge mess that took two days to fix, all for my birthday items, and the last thing anyone wants to do on vacation is wait in guest services lines for over an hour or two total during their first two vacation days. The staff for the most part looked kind of miserable. It's definitely not the friendliest crew, which really surprised me, because my last cruise back in 2011 was amazing with Carnival, and I remembered nothing but really nice, pleasant people. It's a big reason why I loved Carnival so much. But the poor coffee lady crew member looked like her life was hell everyday. She wasn't the only one though - and in interaction, the majority were polite, but we made the joke about how everyone was dead behind the eyes. I chose this ship too because of its decor. It's known to be tacky, but I like that sort of Vegas-y tackiness. But this was a bit more than I had anticipated. It didn't look very good, all mismatched together (the buffet light fixtures look like kids playroom lights to me), etc. It just didn't feel very extravagant or elegant, like all the other ships I had ever been on. It just felt sort of budget. Except the theater - the theater was beautiful, one of the best. Amenities around were fine, but the daybeds up on deck 10 could have used a better wash - it was weirdly sticky on many of them, with that sort of dark stain color on them that seems like old dirt that's just baked on now. The serenity chairs were great though. The ship was clean though, even though you could see damage made over time in things like the walls and even the ceiling (in the Gold Pearl, big black streaks here and there). But otherwise, it was clean. People left things in all sorts of terrible places, but it was never there for long. Entertainment was just....not for me. I felt like it either aimed too low or two high, but completely missed me (I'm 35). There were the shows, which were designed to at least appeal to individual age groups, but they just weren't very good. The music was fine....it was more the singers that did really poorly. Many times it was as if they gave a person a song that just didn't suit there voice, so they either sounded strained or they just didn't sound right. Some didn't even know the words to some songs, so they just mumbled that part to get through it. Really disappointing, because Carnival always had amazing shows in the past. =( Karaoke and the comedy club would have been great if I could always fit in there. Those venues do not provide enough space for what their used for. I absolutely love karaoke, but three separate times I couldn't fit in the room with every single chair being taken and people just standing around. It was already a small room, so it felt claustrophobic, and I just would opt to not go. Comedy club had the same issue - it was in a big lounge (the prettiest lounge too, El Mojito), but comedy was so popular that there would be only awkward standing room left there too, and so I'd opt to just not go when that was the case. And I wasn't late to these events - I'd be 15 early to comedy, or right on time for karaoke. Also, a big issue was that I felt like the teen center wasn't doing a good job. Not because I had a teen there or anything, but because none of the teens would be in it. They would be wandering everywhere in giant groups, screaming, running around, pulling out chairs into walkways, and just being disrespectful. But if they dislike the teen activities so much that they just don't go, that means they need to do something else to keep their attention....because when they have nothing better to do, they just go and bother others. The other activities, like trivia or learning to dance, etc., would also be taken over by kids. Early family karaoke would always drive people away because kids would start lining up to sing, so you basically had to politely clap for one kid singing taylor swift after the next. Then repeat. Then repeat. Then repeat. So just stopped going to those. I will say one great thing about entertainment though - our cruise director was JJ, it was her first cruise as a director. She was awesome. Which was great, because that's the voice you constantly hear. But she was fantastic, and when everything else was disappointing, she at least could get a smile from me, and every event she led was at least entertaining from her end. I'll talk about dining last because....that's the biggest gripe. =\ The ports were great - standard fare Mexican Riviera. =) Cabo isn't the prettiest and the port is a little confusing (do you take the water taxi or not?), but contained enough to not be too scary. Mazatlan has become beautiful - I loved it there. But you DO need to take a taxi from port to the Golden Zone OR old Mazatlan. Too far to walk. Ohm, and no one tells you that even though it's super fast getting off the ship there, you're forced to wait in a line right outside the ship to hop onto a trolley to take you to the port entrance. They won't allow you to walk there through the cargo, so it isn't quick at all, and a little confusing on where to line up for it. People will cut you off and write it off as "oops, we were confused", if they even acknowledge that they cut, that is. And Puerto Vallarta is always wonderful, but you also need to take a taxi into the best area, such as Zona Romantica, unless all you want is to go to Wal-Mart. You can walk there. Oh, and it was safe, but I was offered drugs in all three ports. =) Literally, all three. Maybe it was the tattoos or because I looked like I partied or something, but yeah....it's out there. So watch your teens, I wouldn't really let them wander just by themselves into town. Ok, food and service for....food. I'll start with the easiest - the buffet wasn't too good. But I don't really think buffet food anywhere is very good - I live in Vegas and I've had a million buffets, so that isn't Carnival's fault. But it is pretty limited - not many items to choose from that change daily. But then you can always just supplement with the BBQ place, Tandoor, the deli, etc. And while I read everywhere that the BBQ and Tandoor were super delicious, I really didn't find them all that great. =\ The pizza was horrible - like, beyond horrible. It took forever to make, then when you get it the middle would be chewy and doughy (super thin crust, so really awkward that part not being cooked), and the outside edges would be burnt. The toppings would also just slide off fast - they didn't want to be on that pizza either. It really, really bad. Carnival Liberty had excellent pizza, so I don't know what happened. ;_; Ok, I WOULD know what the steakhouse was like, but they screwed me over bigtime. I booked my reservation there back in February. On the day of my res, I happened to walk by and check out the menu. A lady approached me and asked if I had a reservation, I said yes, and she said let's just verify. She went ot verify, and told me I did not have a reservation. I said there's absolutely no way, because I have a printout stating I had it (it was in the room though, so couldn't show it yet). She then searched for my name and said yes, I had made a reservation, but my stateroom isn't right, but she said she called me and verified it on the phone with me and even told me how to dress, etc. I told her no one called me. So, she said she must have called my old stateroom and someone there who she thought was me verified. *So here's what happened. A day before the cruise, Carnival called me up and offered an upgrade to a balcony if I paid more. I agreed, and he said everything would just transfer over and it was all good. So now I started wondering if those people in my old room also received a bunch of towels and two cakes, and decided not to say anything. Well, they also seemed to have hijacked my reservation. Even though it was under my name. She said because they verified on the phone, she has to give them my reservation (which makes no sense, because when they come up but don't have my name, what then?). So she told me unfortunately she had nothing for me. I. was. pissed. Here I was, with proof I booked it, it was even still in my name, but because it had a different room number and she verified with....whoever in that room, they would get that reservation. So I was about to turn away, when she said it was ok, she can "accomodate me", but next time I need to tell her that I changed my room the first day because "no one talks to them about those things". First off, she just blamed ME for losing my reservation because I opted to pay more for a better room? And I was assured by the Carnival rep on the phone that everything would transfer. If someone had even told me to stop by the steakhouse to mention this, I would have. But now I'm supposed to magically know that they don't talk to them about that, and that they also don't honor reservations under peoples' names, but by their room numbers, and they also don't need to verify who is speaking to them on the phone. So I accepted her "accomodation" (with her chastise), then canceled it a couple hours later because I was so pissed about being treated that way. Which upset me more than anything, since I had been dreaming of the day I would get to eat there even before I booked the cruise (I've loved all the other steakhouses on other ships). And finally, the dining room. So unfortunately, I did not get a break here either. Our waiters were kind enough. But every meal took just about 2 hours to complete, and we were only at a table for 2, and the waiter only had 4 tables (two really big, two 2-tops). And we'd get there early every single day. The big tables mostly arrived really late (20-40 minutes late). They would rarely bring us a menu until at least one of the big tables arrived. If they did, they wouldn't even take our order until those big tables had their menus....even when they came late. They didn't even have water refills for us one night, and other nights it would take a good 30-40 minutes before more water came. Once we got a menu, it's be 20-30 minutes before they came back to take the order, then 20-03 minutes before we got the food, then 20-30 before they cleared those dishes, then 20-30 before we got entrees, then 20-30 before they took those dishes, then 20-30 before we got a dessert menu, etc. It was amazingly slow - like I get better service at a local IHOP. Honestly, it felt like we were discriminated against because we were a gay couple (and not a loud, brightly dressed, flamboyant couple either, we're pretty chill and polite). I was SUPER kind every single night, never complained, but we always got the worst service (with a smile though, which at that point felt condescending). They would ALWAYS bring out the meals for the big groups first, then we would be last. Even when we're the first to arrive in the section....we were always last to be served or helped. It wasn't cool at all to watch the groups next to us in the next waiter's section have such excellent service, and ours was miserable. They'd all be done eating their desserts before we got entrees usually. The food itself wasn't special at all either. Dry bread or overcooked chicken, muddy tasting meals (like the jambalaya) that all bled into the same one-note flavors. Although the escargot was a standout. That was pretty good. Dessert wasn't even good....plus they didn't even give me a dessert menu one night, and that night was one I specifically requested one so we could make it to karaoke earlier to get a seat. That night I got no dessert, and karaoke was packed by the time I was able to leave (waited long enough to give him a chance to bring it....nope, never) so I didn't get to do it that night. Oh, and service was better at breakfast and brunch in there, but marginally so. Those also didn't always clear plates super fast, and one time I had ordered a dessert and the server just...never returned after dropping off my entree. I sat there for 30 minutes with the empty plates in front of me and he just never came to clean it up or bring the dessert. It sounds like I was mean or something, but I was honest to god extremely nice and pleasant and smiley with every single employee on the ship. I used to serve and know how rough it can be, so I always go out of my way to be extremely nice, so in no way did I deserve the service I got. That's why I went this far out of my way to write this - it was so shockingly bad that I just can't keep my mouth shut about it. I'm sorry everyone, especially if you're a Carnival fan. I was. But I'm never going to electively cruise with them again. Not after this terrible experience. It was the crappiest cruise I've ever had, and it made my birthday just plain suck. Picked this cruise mainly for the itinerary going down the Mexican coast but unfortunately didn’t do the research I should have done on the splendor which was a big mistake.We are British and like Americans and get on with them really well but expected better standards concerning food and entertainment,the entertainment was pretty bad ,amateurish and cheap ,no proper star or professional entertainment,unless you like gambling and drinking theirs not a lot to do party games and quizzes wear thin after a while.As for food it was good to very good in the black and gold pearl ,buffets were of a low standard,Mongolian wok we saw cooked chicken on the same tray as raw chicken when I pointed this out to the chef that you could get severe food poisoning doing this he just waved his arms and made out he didn’t understand me,I passed on the Mongolian wok.We found we were in long lines to go into restaurants,guest services embarking and disembarking the ship,took form 10 am to 12,30 to get off by tenders and we were to sail again at 4,30 so only had a few hours so what was the point !!! We just wanted a quick get-away. We got a rude awakening literally. Between midnight and 2:00 am guests would walk down the hallway laughing, yelling, speaking extremely loud, and running. You would expect people to be more respectful of the other guests trying to sleep. When eating in the buffet, we had to look at a man who did not have a shirt on as well as his female friend who thought not to wear a cover-up as we had to look at her string bikini and her butt cheeks. They should have stayed at the pool to eat their meal. There was no officer to be seen who should have asked them to eat outdoors. Food onboard was average or below. They served lamb in the buffet that you needed a power saw to cut. Eating it was out of the question. Dinning room food was just ok as well. The oatmeal was actually pretty good. This ship being as old as it is (1996), should be retired. The ceilings are extremely low. Smoking is allowed in the casino. We walked through just once and were assaulted by the smoke. The ceiling being so low keeps all the smoke trapped. We would have enjoyed doing some gambling, but due to the smoke, would not return to the casino. In our cabin, our air conditioning control was mounted on the ceiling. We had to get on a chair to reach it, and turning it off was very difficult. We had to call our cabin steward and ask him to turn it off. We have never been on a ship where the control was mounted on the ceiling. Absolutely ridiculous. Also in our cabin, the only type of glasses to use were glass water goblets. This is really a very dangerous safety issue. If you dropped the glass it would shatter in the sink or floor. How easy would it be for Carnival to furnish plastic glasses for use in the bathroom? Our cabin steward did not have any, so we brought two plastic glasses from the buffet to use in the bathroom. Television in cabin only offered a few stations. There was not even a sports channel to watch. Plenty of advertising for Carnival was available to see. The entertainment was just ok. They had a Motown show one night and a Studio 54 the next night. The entertainers worked hard and did a nice job. Service throughout the ship was good. We took this cruise many years ago when Royal Caribbean offered it. I wish they still did it. We have been cruising since 1982 and have been pretty much around the world. This cruise and Carnival, we will NEVER do again. We have been on Princess, and Carnival owns them, so we most likely will not sail with them as well. I chose this cruise as this wasn't the first time taking this trip. I must say after completing this cruise, my sister & I were highly disappointed in the level of quality/service/food provided. Here is a quick breakdown of events in order: - Arrived on the boat with the "Faster to the fun option", which ensures our room is ready upon boarding the ship. The room was cleaned up, however the request was for the beds to be seperated and it was not. I approached the Steward and was advised that I can wait till the evening for the beds to be seperated. Now after a 5 hour drive to get to the ship, we really wanted to take a quick nap so that answer was not acceptable. I went over to guest services to voice my concern and about 15 minutes later the steward took care of the issue and for the rest of the cruise handled our room much better. -After resting, my sister and I decided to have some lunch on the Lido deck and that was a mistake. All the food was cold/dry and really inedible. Pizza was worse than frozen options at the grocery store. Sandwiches were burnt and poorly made and then the buffet items were cold/dry and poorly flavored(was no flavor). Needless to say, the lack of quality tasting/edible food continued throughout the entire trip. The only edible food was from Guy Fieri's Burger Station. Eating hamburgers wasn't expected but I mean people on the show "Survivor" were eating better than we were. - Signed up for the Soda package for unlimited drinks, which did save us money. The issue I have with the program is you can only go to the bar to get the drink, which is poorly located with the food stations. Plus, the cans are left out all day and the cups used are warm, so the ice melts quickly and you have to stop over by the normal beverage station for more ice. I'm not an ice tea drinker, the free beverage option wasn't good for me. My sister does drink Ice tea and declined the soda option at first, but after she started drinking the tea, she said the tea tasted really watered down and not good, so she ended up signing up for the soda package instead. - As far as activities go, the trivia was nice along with the bingo. Bingo is expensive based on the option selected, however the bingo host was funny and kept the game interactive. The final sea day was setup with large gaps in between activities, which really wasn't fun for us as the downtime options are either to go to the Casino and lose your money, drink alcohol to kill the time or sleep. I could keep going, but all in all after our family has done over 10 trips with Carnival, this will be our last one. I understand getting what you pay for, however the food should be edible, the service should be good throughout and when you pay extra to have your room ready upon arrival, the room should be ready. The bed sheets looked dirty and the mattress and pillows were too hard. They were using kid looking plastic drinking cups instead of real water glasses, and there were no water glasses or ice bucket in the room. The room was also very noisy, you could hear people waliking above in the upper decks, and there was a clanging sound coming from I believe outside the ship, we could hear it at night when we were trying to sleep. When we arrived back in Long Beach, the debarking process was terrible, my husband and I got up early to take our bags down, the paper in our room said to go to deck 8 and wait in the lounge, but there was no one there to tell you anything, so we went down to deck 7 and saw some people waiting there near the staircase so we waited with them, after a half in hour we found out we had to get a a line down a hallway, by then the line was all the way down to the end. The cabin was extremely cramped. The beds were maybe a foot or two wide with half of one of the beds being covered with a bunk bed. For the price this was expected. Our bathroom toilet stopped working in the room and upon complaining I was told I would have to wait my turn as over two floors did not have working restrooms. We had around 7 rooms between all of our family, all of which had issues. I guess I was the lucky one with a very intermittent toilet issue. Most of my family had a working toilet for only the first day and then had to use public restrooms for the rest of the time. Of course at night they basically shut down all of the public restrooms so a nightly pee break turned into a scavenger hunt. Also someone on the ship was extremely dedicated to urinating into as many restroom cup holders as possible which made for a pretty disgusting atmosphere. My grandma's room flooded due to water pouring from the ceiling. For the inconvenience they offered her a box of chocolates which they never ended up delivering. They awarded everyone $20 back due to not being charged port fees in maztalan. What they failed to mention was that if you had no fees on your room you didn't get the $20 back unless you specifically walked up and asked for it. This was only discovered after asking guest services about the refunds. And yes, you were charged for all of the port fees before the cruise was booked so they should have gave everyone back their money. The shore excursions were hit or miss. My off road mountain biking excurision took place solely on roads which I felt made it a misleading title. The options on the menus were extremely limited. We had a vegetarian in our group who was told she would always have two food options on every menu. The first day there were zero and upon retrying on the last day there was one. On the last day we sat at two tables. The waitress at the one table was top nothing and half our family enjoyed their meal. The waitress at my groups table was slow and kept missing orders. Even though we sat down at the same time, we finished an hour later than the other group. They will nickel and dime you on every last thing they can. A typical alcoholic beverage costs $14. This was expected since it is a cruise, I'm just bringing it up so you can price compare with other cruises and get an idea. Norwegian is significantly higher than other cruises in this regard. All in all we did have fun, even on an aging ship that's falling apart with failing facilities. For the most part they had very friendly staff and we only had issues with two wait staff out of the 20 or 30 webdealt with. Read Less

During our entire cruise the public toilets were clogged and overflowing. Raw sewage was 2 inches deep in the women's bathrooms. It's amazing no one got Norovirus! The staff didn't seem concerned when we repeatedly reported this problem. They simply put up an "out of order" sign. Our cruise itinerary changed. Our stops were reversed, which wasn't really a problem. But we were late in to port for 2 of our 3 stops. As late as 11am, which meant that passengers weren't off loaded until 2pm in Cabo because they use tender boats. This was the first time I had a drink package included. All your drinks are "free" but they have drastically cut their bar/waite staff so getting a drink was a challenge. Many times I had to go to the bar directly to get my "free" drink because there was no one to take my drink order. I have enjoyed 2 other NCL cruises but I would definitely not recommend Norwegian Star in particular. Read Less

Dinner the first night there was no vegetarian option for me, the staff offered a garden salad, then said he would have the manager speak with me. I sat through the appetizer watching everyone eat. She told me it was Easter dinner..this happened for other dinners as well.There was plumbing issues all cruise, the toilets would not flush and deck 5 flooded. We had to walk around a smelly carpet with fans in the hall. My 75 year old mother was in the closet cabin to the flood and they told her they would give her chocolates or a bottle of wine. She kept calling about the chocolates and they kept telling her it was already delivered, the last night they told her it was too late, I had to go to customer service and wait until they gave her what they promised. Another couple was there for the same thing and stated they had been on Norwegian 10 times and they would never sail with them again. The Ship was in poor condition, there are a lot of broken chairs in the theater. They said they were aware and the ship was going to dry dock and get repairs like they do every 5 years. (maybe they should fix things as they break?) There was a show Paradis that was disturbing and many people walked out. It did not say adult only but should have been, singing about threesomes was one thing but in the next dance they showed a guy slapping around a woman and trying to force himself on her. Our bills had a lot of charges that were not ours and were taken off when we brought it to their attention, customer service was the busiest place on the ship. Free activities were minimal, they counted listening to sales pitches as a fun free thing to do on a cruise. This was my first and last cruise on Norwegian. Never Norwegian! Read Less

We booked this at the last minute so we ended up in the Jade Suite. While we paid top dollar the service and experience was really bad. We did not get most of the room amenities until the last day after we had complained. Many of the hand cleaning stations around the ship were covered with black mold, indicating they hadn't been wiped down in ages. The mold wasn't addressed even though we notified housekeeping, officers, etc. The ships "feature" freestyle dining. What this means is that unlike some cruise lines where you have the same servers, here you can go to whatever restaurant you want and you will have different servers each time. The result is that the servers have no investment in making you happy. They all share the common tip pool, good and bad servers alike. Watched as our tray of breakfast sat for ten minutes while our server left the service floor to go who knows where. He came back and eventually served us the by then dried out cold food!!! The one bright spot was the Irish themed pub restaurant, I ended up eating most of my meals there since the food and service and in the restaurants, including the "specialty" restaurants, was so poor! We also had a concierge who was supposed to take care of our needs. Again, really poor service. Some of the crew we spoke to on this ship indicated they were transferring to a new and larger ship. I suspect that the Star is not the best ship in their fleet and that the guest experience might be better on one of the larger and newer ships. However, we had better experiences on Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival! It is likely this was our first and last trip on Norwegian!!! Read Less

Neice and nephew were worn out by Sunday, which is saying something because they have energy for DAYS! The cabin itself was nice, but the toilet smelled like a port-a-potty and was NOT good. The excursions were GREAT!, the staff was nice and polite, but this DOES NOT make up for the fiascos we encountered. The shows we went too (The Vegas Show, White Magic, and Deal or No Deal) were great! Dining was nice, I was fat an full the whole week I would NOT go again on the Star PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS SHIP! On the 5th day of the cruise Princess informed me that I owed an extra 600.00 dollars as I was now a "single." These clowns will do anything to make an extra buck. So for 600.00 they have lost two people who have cruised with Princess over 6 times. In addition the ship is very tired. The room was poorly and the balcony looked like it hadn't been painted in 5 years. The food was consistently cheap and often cold. It is sad as Princess was our choice for cruising. Sadly, although I had paid for a second room for friends to be able to go, they had the audacity to charge me extra for being a single. Last trip Princess. One night the menu had fresh cut roast turkey. Well it was fresh cut alright but it was rolled turkey like out of a delicatessen. Just gross. Nine day cruise and no lobster another disappointment. Like I say the people serving we’re just great but the food I would really scream about it. It was nice to have two days in Cabo. All the other stops were great as well. Getting on the ship was a real issue we were waylaid at the terminal for quite a few hours. We were with handicap person and getting off the ship was another issue. They put us in a room and finally we said we’re going to leave and they said somebody with us and when we got into the terminal terminal was empty we were the among the last people off the ship. We had to try make calls to arrange a shuttle to the airport. We had pre-arranged to be off by a pretty Turman time but we blew that out of the water and missed it. Read Less

This was my third cruise with NCL the first two out of Europe, no complaints. This cruise from Los Angeles bad from start to finish. I paid for ship transfer from Airport to ship thought this safer as traveling alone was advised representative would meet me, this did not happen several phone calls were made from a customer services desk to number given which was in Miami still no transport arrived.I was offered to bid for an upgrade which was accepted as traveling alone I had to pay for two upgrades I was then changed from deck eleven to four granted there was a porthole which you could not access as the bed was only a few inches either side of the walls. The in cabin TV did not work therefore you could not hear any of the ships announcements and as this was the the deck gangway was on it took forever to try to get on deck to know what was going on and at what time you could go ashore. The food left a lot to be desired the whole cruise seemed to be running on a shoe string. I will never travel with The Norwegian Cruise Line again or recommend it to family or friends. This was my sixteenth cruise and I have sice booked a further three cruises with other companies. Read Less

It was my 69 th birthday and I was looking for something that might be fun for 10 people. My sister is in a wheelchair as is one of my friends So we all booked it. Going by Cruise Critic guidelines for the review : Departure and Embarkation were fine. The ship was old and run down but the customer service and the staff were deplorable. Most of the food was in edible with the exception of Guys Burger joint. Burgers were good if the person serving them understood what you were ordering. Had limited hours. The Carnival web site boasts of Its steakhouse and other resturants avaliable for an up charge of $35. Guess what...no other resturants on the ship.So you are stuck in the so called dining room (NOT). Or the roomservice menu which is ridiculous. Unless you want to take a chance at one of the buffets where eveyone and their children are touching the food as were the flys and the smell of disinfectant permeated the room. They sell you the drink package and then you find out they have no Baileys, sometimes no fruit or garnish for your tropical drink. The juice is all powdered. If it is could outside you are linited to two bars. The one in the casino area is sooooo smoky you can not breath and the other was always full. My niece found an ampule of sodium nitrate left in the closet from the last guest, The TVs have a handfull of channels four of them that sell Carnival . Poor selections. Let's start from the top. Embarking: The crew outside the ship was a horrible experience. I had a crew member get very hostile with my Uber driver all because he missed a no parking sign that quite frankly I couldn't even see (still don't know if it existed). He was literally flailing his arms inside the drivers car. Next was our luggage that I honestly could have carried on myself but I was told I had to check it. So we did and the crew member asked me if I wanted to tip him prior to me even giving my bags to him. What?!? I said no. He told me his cart was full after I told him no. Food: The only good food was the sit down dinners at night. The buffets: not good. The breakfast buffet was the same every day and was very small with selection. It got old fast. One night we went to the featured buffet "seafood buffet" except they were all out of the seafood... I mean not even a crumb. Waitstaff: nice, friendly but there isn't many of them. If you want a cocktail there is nobody to be found on the pool deck or even if you want a cup of coffee at breakfast (which I had to use the server station myself just to get one) The bars are at least a 10-15 minute for a drink at everyone point in the day every day. Water: You literally cannot get water to save your life so if you plan on drinking don't plan on re-hydrating yourself. The shows: The times are kind of not convenient because they are right at dinner and if dinner runs too long you miss the show. This happened to us and so we went to the later show but there was no room to sit because they decided to hold it in one of the lounges and not the theater. So we missed it even though we waited 30 minutest to sit-down before the show. I will never go on this ship and I don't know if I will use princess again after this. It's hard to say. Read Less

We chose the Ruby Princess due to the date, sailing from LA, and going to Cabo. I also wanted to try a Princess Cruise as I had not previously sailed with them. We had a balcony room and the room itself was average, but with a slightly larger balcony. We would have enjoyed the balcony more had the weather cooperated, but I can't fault Mother Nature. The bed, on the other hand, was the worst bed I have ever slept in, and after the 3rd night of waking most of the night and arising with back pain, I spent the last two nights of the cruise sleeping on the floor. The rest of the cabin was fine with no issues or benefits to mention. The dining on board the Ruby was challenging, to say the least. The buffet (Horizon) served the most inedible food that was consistently at room temperature, with little variety in their options. Breakfasts in Horizon were so bad, I opted to have granola and yogurt after trying various other items. Eggs either runny or rubbery, ran out of bacon after 3rd day, hot food at lukewarm temperature. Lunch was no better at Horizon and I opted for pizza most days. Dinner in the dining room was average - service was fine and the food was good with nice options for each night. We went to the Horizon for dinner when they served Mexican food and this was the most atrocious food - the fajitas were absolute gristle, and I had to spit out the beef after chewing each piece for a few minutes, and the chicken enchiladas were topped with just tomato paste and cheese (no spices in the sauce - just tomato paste). We did an upcharge dining at the Salty Dog Gastropub and the food, drinks, and service were phenomenal. I would highly recommend the Gastropub if you are on the Princess ships. The coffee aboard is terrific wherever you get it - dining room, buffet, specialty coffee shop - always good coffee! We did an upcharge wine blending that was lovely. There were 8 in the group, so it was a personalized experience with the ability to chat, try new blends, and learn about wines. We also did an upcharge wine tasting that had good wines; however, it appeared Princess did this for the money as they filled about half the dining room and you couldn't hear what was said, they didn't pair the wines with the canapes, and the speakers seemed to just be trying to sell the wines rather than the experience. The entertainment was okay on the Ruby. The first show "Colors of the World" was well performed; however, I got lost when they started performing pop songs in between the music of the nations. The next show would have been lovely, but after the first number, they had technical difficulties and we had to wait 10 minutes before they restarted the show. The other performers - singers, comedians - were great and thoroughly enjoyed. The service - this was so hit and miss, that I could write the entire review about the service. Some service was great - our room steward, the upcharge venues, the tea, some bartenders. Some service was deplorable - room service and excursion. We purchased wine online prior to boarding and received a voucher in our room when we arrived. The voucher said to contact room service to bring the wine in exchange for our vouchers. Room service did not answer the phone at all on the first day. We called for 45 minutes, then went to muster drill. Then called for an hour, then went to dinner, where they directed us to go to customer desk. Customer service called room service for us, and said to sign our voucher and leave it on our desk. Then we went to the show. On return, we had no vouchers and no wine. We called room service for another hour, then called customer service, where a snarky person said we did it wrong. At this point, I'm sure I was unpleasant as well, and informed him I would stay awake and keep contacting them until they delivered something to our room. Our bottle of wine was finally delivered at 10:30 PM - 8 hours after we boarded. The excursion desk service was not quite as bad; however, we were informed three different things regarding our pre-booked excursion and methods for the tender, and the desk is open at limited hours. We finally gave up on trying to figure out all the differing information and had them re-sell our excursion. I cannot comment on the actually port or excursion as we just stayed on the ship and enjoyed having the hot tub and pool to ourselves. One other item of note is that there seemed to be a bit of disrepair to the ship as there were elevators out of service, two public restrooms only had one open stall with others closed for service, and there was leak somewhere as they had to cut a hole in the wall outside our room at 7:00 AM one morning and there was a fan blowing down the hall for the next two days. Overall - there were some lovely things about the cruise - the coffee, the wine blending, the Gastropub, the comedian, the larger balcony, and having the hot tub to ourselves. There were, however, so many overwhelmingly bad things about the cruise, that I will not be sailing Princess again - the bed, the service, the food, the service (yes, I did list that twice), the food (again), the communication, the upselling (I know all ships do this, but it seemed a bit overboard (excuse the pun)), and the food (again). Although my individual ratings were poor or average, (i.e.: based on the excellent service at the Gastropub averaged with the terrible service with room service) my overall rating is terrible for the cruise. I am forgiving of a few things going awry during a vacation, but this trip and ship had issues every day that the few wonderful things could not overcome. Read Less

Each year our group of up to 25 cabins do a group booking usually we cruise carnival and have been treated like royalty on carnival.. This year we opted for princess cruise lines on the ruby princess.. A few weeks prior to the cruise many of us received emails offering us a free cruise in oct or nov if we bail from our scheduled march booking.. We all agreed to keep our original march booking although the offer was very generous .. Huge mistake !!! Our group was rather excited to cruise on princess considering this was our first group booking away from carnival.. This entire trip started bad.. Rude group booking agent.. I actually asked our group to be reassigned to someone nice.. Upon arriving at the ship we of course waited in a huge long line to get a cocktail which is normal upon boarding.. This long wait was normal throughout the cruise.. We waited up to 30 min to get a beer.. The buffet food was mediocre at best .. Honestly it was disgusting.. One of my biggest issues was the lack of room service.. No joke a 45 min wait on hold to speak to anyone and up to 2 hours to get your order delivered to you room and it was never what you ordered.. we ported in cabo for "2 days" it was actually 23 hours... The tender into cabo was fast .. The tender back to the ship inexcusable.. Up to 2 hours or more.. There was a person walking around letting the cruise passengers know that princess refused to contract with the cabo tenders.. That is why the wait was so long.. It was cold after the sun set.. Families were left in a 2 hour wait with their children.. We saw many purchasing blankets for their children from the vendors.. Most of our group missed their dinner reservations.. The staff throughout the cruise were grouchy.. And down right rude.. And the lack of entertainment.. this cruise was an absolute disappointment.. i let our group sales agent know of our concerns.. We never had a follow up.. Did not figure we would.. But you are all now warned ... Dont do it and run if princess offers you an out .. There is a reason..
