I went on this ship as it was the only thing available at the last minute when trying to find a cruise to take my 30y.o. sister on who has never cruised before. I had done this itinerary twice before (Ensenada twice and Catalina Island once) and I had done this ship before in 2015 being in a wedding as my friend was married on it. The ship looks old, worn, and dirty. We saw crew members dusting the walls in the morning but important things like cleaning our oceanview window so we could have a clear view outside and pickup up trash in the public bathrooms were missed. The handwashing machine near Blue Iguana didn't work properly most of the time, just flashing a red light and and hand sanitizer near there was never filled. The bathroom nearest the buffet on port side, the air dreyer never worked and there were no paper towels available. Within 20min of boarding the ship we sat down in the buffet to eat lunch and the wooden bench part of the seat in one of the booths completely fell off the bench making my sister almost fall. Two crewmembers walked by, saw it was broken, and did nothing. Certain coffee makers and other drink dispensers didn't work the entire cruise. Our sheets had holes and there was only one outlet in the whole room. The food in the dining room was more miss than hit and no one encouraged hand washing like they do on NCL. I rarely touched the ladles and spoons to serve myself, using a blue cloth napkin instead, yet I'm still sick the day after the cruise. The casino house edge on roulette is insane with Carnival adding a B (bonus) green space to the the standard 0/00. The lady running the trivia was unfamiliar with the subject matter of some of the trivia games and while generally having people from all over the world work on the ship is an amazing display of diversity, in this case it made trivias less fun when you can't understand the host. Not only when running the Harry Potter trivia was she unaware of simple things like Ron's last name being pronounced Weasley and not Wesley but the second question asked was WRONG! "Of the three main characters, who is the oldest?" The correct answer is Hermione, yet on her sheet (and clearly because she's not versed on the subject matter to know otherwise) the answer says Ron, which is incorrect and leaves a damper on the experience itself when those running a trivia don't know the correct answers. German C, the DJ on board always looked like he hated being there. Nightclub hits was supposed to start at 11:30 in the dance club but normally he didn't stop playing oldschool or 90's hits until 12:15am or later making the fun of dancing to current music only last about 45min or so. Also, our server on the third night in Mardi Gras was not very kind nor patient. And the person staffing the pizza area in the back of the buffet always had an attitude as if you were bothering him. The Cruise Director Ryan Rose was great and so was his right hand man 'Fernando(?)'. They were the positives of the cruise. The two shows in the theaters while short and had basic choreography and wasn't anything new or exciting, was still entertaining and the male lead singer/dancer was very good. My sister enjoyed the nightclub but wished they played current hits starting earlier in the night since it ended early. Too many times she tried to eat a caesar salad but it either had too much or too little dressing no matter how she specified it. Overall she enjoyed herself so in my opinion if you haven't been on many cruises, or haven't been on new and large ships or haven't stayed in a balcony cabin before and don't have much to compare it too you may enjoy this cruise for a quick getaway if you are local to the area. Wanted to cruise the Mexican Riviera with our best friends. Thought Princess was supposed to be a good line. Nothing special about it. The food was not very good , even the food in the pay extra restaurants. The room was very small and lacked any color or attractivenes and it was classified as a Deluxe Balcony Stateroom. We wont be sailing with Princess again. There are too many better choices... Royal Caribbian, NCL, Disney, Oceana, Holland America. The best thing about this cruise was how great our room steward was. As far as the itinerary, Puerto Vallarta was the best, lots to see and do. Though Cabo is a nice place to spend a few days (have done that in the past) I dont think it was worth the hastle of going ashore. The other thing that was a surprise is that the "Stuff" they served as ice cream was NOT... it was watery and tasteless. And lastly, finding seating at the buffets was always a challenge. Needlless to say we have no plans to sail with Princess again. Read Less

Let me start off by saying I work with the public on a daily basis. I WAS happy to see the wash stations at the buffet entrances. With that said, my mom and I both got terrible colds about the third day into our what was suppose to be a wonderful mother daughter trip. I haven't been sick in four years, terrible coincidents, possibly. OR..maybe there were too many germ breeding children. Had we have known that it was California's spring break we would have picked a different week. I got so sick I was very close to calling the doctor on the ship. I had to cancel my massage the last day because I was coughing so hard there was no way I could've laid flat on my back. Beyond being sick, there was absolutely no reprimand by your staff what so ever. Kids running into people because of lack of supervision. Screaming and belching in the buffet dining hall. Incessantly running up and down the hallways of the rooms the ENTIRE week. There was a complete lack of respect for the people that paid a lot of money that wanted a relaxing cruise. It was the farthest thing from relaxing. I've been on both Royal Caribbean and Carnival and I've never experienced THAT many kids. They were being so abnoxious at one point I was looking forward to getting home. I shouldn't be thinking that on a wonderful mother/daughter trip, right? Everytime we'd find a nice cozy spot to curl up with our books on the observation deck there would be a group of kids, with absolutely NO adults, come sit near us being loud, making a scene, totally distracting, and VERY disrespectful. That seemed to being a common denominator throughout the whole week. Kids being very disrespectful with no parental supervision. I think this will be my first and last Norwegian cruise unfortunately. Way too many kids! Read Less

First things first getting on the boat felt eternal. And our walker-talkies were taken from us. No where did it say we were not able to take them aboard. Once on the boat the balcony room storage was way less then on carnivals. Having to hustle from line to line just to book shows dinning and laser tags/go karting was a pain. The days and times that would work for us and the size family of 5 was almost impossible to coordinate. Free styling is not freeing at all. Wait times to have dinner was eternal. My boys did not in any why like the hr and a half long service. The whole cruise was a constant wait game. There were so many floors of rooms and not enough social areas to socialize. The observatory was the only place and many people made it clear children were not wanted around. If I can’t drop them off at the club and the only place open is the pool which was a see of people with no open area available. Were else am I to have family time with my family. The atrium was super small and everyone fighting for seating. That place was out of the question. The elevators where never empty 3 had to pass by before there was even enough room to get on one. And going down or up 10 or so floors with children was not in any way doable. Many of the staff were in a constant rush and had little pacientes if you didn’t understand the way they ran things you were quickly pushed aside and having to help you was a strain on them. Food was very bland and nothing called our attention, even the deserts were flavorless. The kids club was alway at capacity and there were times my boys were not accepted in. If they were accepted having to wait 30 min to drop off or even pick up was a given. Shows were not that interesting and we were only accommodated the late times and our kids were grouchy with tired ness by then. If we had any hope of seeing an earlier time we had to wait in the stand by line to see if we were allowed space in. Once again waiting in lines. The buffet was a war zone of people fighting for seating and yet again waiting in long lines for food. With children we tend to not get off on the ports me and my husband have traveled to these ports in the past and knew what to expect. We however did get off on Puerto Vallarta the one excursion we did do we do not recommend. Do not do Puerto Vallarta city sites. The guide lost 12 people in the group and we were afraid to relax thinking he was going to take off to the next stop with out us. We had to keep a constant eye on him to not be left behind. Room service is not free $7 charge and they always always made a mistake and were very rude on the phone. Not a relaxing vacation what so ever. I will never recommend this company nor will we be returning customers. Read Less

I used to love Norwegian. The Epic was my first cruise and I went on several after that before trying Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. One thing I always loved about Norwegian was the value. That has all changed. Now everything costs more. Margaritaville has a hamburger I like. When I was on the Breakaway a few years ago I went to Margaritaville every day for lunch. It was like $12 per person. Kind of high but reasonable. Now it’s $15 with a 20% gratuity so that is $18. That hamburger is not an $18 hamburger and lunch for 2 people is not worth $36 and that does not include drinks! All of the specialty dining is more expensive and a la carte. Dinner at La Cucina used to be $14.95 on the Getaway. Now if you get a 4 course meal you are talking $30 to $40. Olive Garden is 10x better than La Cucina and I can get dinner for 2 people for less than $40. NCL wants me to spend nearly $80 for 2 people? They are out of their mind! And one night we got the prosciutto pizza to share. It was a cheese pizza with 5 small pieces of prosciutto. It was not an $18 pizza. I get pizza every Friday from Papa Johns or Donatos and I pay less and get more. Cagney’s used to be a special night; a great filet with delicious sides. This cruise I got an 8 oz filet and it was cooked perfectly but had zero flavor. The chef didn’t even put salt and pepper on it. Luckily I used one of my dining plan vouchers otherwise that steak was $30+. I can get a beautiful filet for $22 locally, put a delicious rub on it, and after 2 hours in my sous vide I have a steak Norwegian would be begging me for. The only positive thing I can say is that I ate in Taste for lunch and dinner because I was tired of paying for food and the food was just as good as the specialty restaurants and the service was 10x better. The servers were very quick and attentive whereas we waited 5 to 15 minutes for the servers in the specialty restaurants to bring us anything. Deck 17 is an epic failure! The doors are not automatic. In order to open the sliding doors, you have to physically touch a sensor. I have limited mobility and I have very limited reach. I could not physically touch the sensor. I tried to use a short dressing stick that I carry to press elevator buttons but the sensors were capacitive so the only way to activate the sensor and open the door was to use an actual human touch. Touch sensors are absolutely and ridiculously stupid! To make matters worse the button is not always in the center of the door. Sometimes it’s on the wall. Has NCL ever met a handicap person with mobility issues? I don’t think they have. We don’t all have full use of our arms. Note: Celebrity ships have similar buttons you have to touch to open doors but their buttons work with my dressing stick. Smart! But wait, there’s more. Have you ever tried to maneuver a 3 wheeled scooter down the length of the ship with beach chairs on either side? If you haven’t let me tell you it’s not an easy thing to do. Now add some wind breakers in the middle and you have a near impossible situation. Now one must try to maneuver around beach chairs and a divider. I have no idea why these wind breakers were installed in the first place. The best part about sitting on the top deck is the ability to stare out at the ocean and have the wind cool you off from the hot sun. If someone doesn’t want wind they can go to deck 16 or the Spice H2O deck. Wind breakers are absolutely and ridiculously stupid! Note: On Celebrity ships there is a walkway at least 10 feet wide all the way down the ship. That means if someone is standing I can go around them. There is also enough room for 2 lanes of traffic. Smart! The Getaway, Breakaway, and Bliss have 28 inches of walkway. That means if I am on my scooter I can’t turn around, people have to stand on beach chairs so I can pass, and the traffic is one way. Stupid! Read Less

I had always thought bigger was better, however this was not the case. with 4000 guest on board the elevator situation on board is dreadful. Since the ship onl;y has a 2 elevator banks and upwards of 18 floors, you are always stuck waiting for an elevator you can sqeeze into. As for activities we were only able to catch 2 shows and one of which cost an additinal 29.95 per person for and we had to sit in folding chairs...great show but i didn't think i paid to sit in a folding chair. almost everything on the boat needs to have a reseravtion, over a 7 day trip i was unable to reserve any other dinding options then what i had setup about 4 weeks prior to sailing, and was unable to get a spot to race the go karts. We love the comedy shows and once again we were unable to see any of there shows besides the one held in the large theater due to having to make a reservation. Also we had no idea that there was a reservation system from boat tenders in cabo as well. lastly my big concern, i didnt know it was ok to smoke marijuana on the ship, there had been multiple people smoking in the smoking section and my wife had discovered used aluminum foil that had been burnt and there were signs a "substance" had been smoked off of the foil. this was reported to security and im not sure if anything had ever been done about it.... But as a person who normal takes my child with, this was a little uneasy feeling, however after seeing how easy security seemed to be, i wasnt shocked by this. after multiple sailings with ncl this has by far been the worst, and i may cruise with them again, but for now i will be looking into a diffrent cruise line. My overall rating is being kind .This was a very dissapointing cruise. The food in the main dining rooms was just okay. It wasn't up to our expectations. Having sailed Princess in the past many times, I found the Royal Princess to be a disappointment. Much better liked the design of the Diamond, Sapphire and Ruby Princess - not to mention the Crown Princess. The bathrooms on the balcony staterooms are so small. Very disappointing. The carpet in our stateroom was in horrible condition as well as our other party that we were with - balcony cabin. The entertainment was disappointing or nowhere to be found. The gym workout area was so ridiculously small. The servers and the attitude of the staff was not like we have experienced in past Princess cruises where everyone went over and above to make sure the experience was fantastic. The staff seemed not happy to be there. The time at the Ports of Call was so rushed that you barely had any time at each port. A note to Princess: I see a couple of your future ships are going to be designed like this ship - which to me is just like a Carnival ship. As previously mentioned, the Diamond Princess and the Sapphire Princess were a much better designed ship and made a much better experience. When crossing the only hallway by the Princess Live Theatre, it was so crowded, you barely had 7 foot of space to walk through to pass without bumping into other passengers. You couldn't walk around the ship. All traffic was kept on one side of the ship. I was very dissappointed! Read Less

The largest balcony rooms (not suites) were too small and too much furniture. Food was not good. It seems the chef likes to make the food look good, but it honestly had no taste. They served a lot of pork meals - probably because pork is so cheap. Not impressed. The medallion method is awesome. We never had to sign anything and were able to use the apps to see what was going on around the ship without carrying the agenda around with us all day. The entertainment was second rate at best. Typical comedian - a constant barrage of not funny cruise jokes. There was a juggler that didn't really juggle very well. The 2 female singers had talent. Not sure how the 2 male singers ended up in this production. The best entertainment we saw was the cruise director (he was funny and friendly) and the games they played. The internet access was amazing - the best we've had on a cruise ship. This will most likely be the last Princess cruise for us. The cons definitely outweighed the pros. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the value and mostly because it leaves locally from a port in my home town. The bed was uncomfortable and the ship does not provide ANY alternatives. The response to maintenance took days. I had brought protein drinks that had to be kept cool and the fridge wasn't cooling. For some reason the ship decides to schedule maintenance on our balcony during the early morning while we were at sea and told us to keep our doors locked and curtains closed. When I opened the doors later I found notes to not touch the railings and the smell was awful. The entertainment was Vegas Lounge level. Other than the helpful, awesome crew, I was very disappointed in just about everything else. The food was pretty good too. My only complaint about that was that out of all 20 or so choices of dessert there was nothing chocolate (except cookies) on many nights in the buffet. Try Royal Caribbean instead! Read Less

First time on a cruise. Expectations were high. Those glitzy commercials... First, the positives. Overall it was a relaxing and friendly environment. I cannot say enough positive about the wait staff in the dining areas and every other staff member we crossed was cheery and enthusiastic and very willing to help and engage. The state room was filthy on arrival. Feces smeared on the sides of the toilet bowl, dirty hand prints in the shower, and clearly not vacuumed. Patio doors to deck were filthy too. Sofa in room was grimy looking. You board a ship with trepidation about getting norovirus and this is what greets you. We were given a complimentary meal in the steak house after complaining. Never did see the complimentary robes we signed up for before the cruise. The internet service you purchase is locked to one device. This is not mentioned prior to purchase. The ship's television service went out three times for hours, once for a solid 24 hours. - so much for relaxing in your room at the end of an evening with a show before bedtime. I was glad to not be traveling with children. The buffet featured food that was bland the majority of the time. Maybe I can appreciate this more when I am a geriatric. Food had from the other dining areas was much better. AMATEUR live entertainment. For example there was a Mariachi band with some members pretending to play instruments along to canned recordings. It made relaxing in common areas during live performances difficult. It really was that cringe worthy. I am not musical at all and I was picking up on it. For my husband who is a classically trained musician it was excruciating. The Medallion GPS tracker/room key/electronic payment device was convenient. I felt like part of a wildlife tag and release program but it did aid the room stewards in knowing we were not in the room and we found it cleaned at all differing hours of the day which was convenient. For those signing up for shore excursion packages please do NOT assume that if lunch is provided as part of the excursion that a beverage of ANY sort is included as well (billed separately for water - surprise!). Mazatlan is a hard pass. Anyone who has visited a Mexican city bordering the US has already seen what they have to offer of squalor, but now add in many Mexican federal policemen with machine guns for that extra war zone feel. We chose a Disney cruise because we thought it would be an ideal vacation for a couple with toddler. It’s a tough age to keep actively engaged. While the character greetings and related events were spectacular, experiences for toddlers overall were really quite limited. That being said, this alone was not why the magic was missing for us. The stateroom was not in the best shape when we arrived. The safe lock had not been reset (we had to wait for maintenance to reset, which was fine if that was the only issue), the clock alarm had not been reset (getting us up much too early the next day), there was hair on the shower curtain, and a pair of eyeglasses were lost in the cabin (?). The cabin and ship was especially creaky the whole trip. This was not our first cruise...so found it annoying. It negatively impacted our sleep. The restaurant food was good but too hot for our toddler, every time. One would assume that this would be tested before plating. While the service itself was especially friendly, off-putting was the constant requests night after night for an “excellent” rating. It left us feeling soured. We didn’t need to be pushed so much. Maybe just say it once and leave it. As for the food quality outside of the restaurants and buffet, it was really bland. We needed cash for one of the excursions and guest services would only take personal checks (in 2019!). My son and I caught a bad cold by the last day! On balance, this was not the vacation that I hoped for and expected from the magical Disney. Read Less

We are both Elite level and have traveled on Princess, Carnival and NCL. We expect excellent service. Unfortunately this is not the case on this ship. There where NO robes in cabin and NO laundry bags had to asked for them from cabin steward on both items. When I looked thru the coupon book that was in cabin found items that had expired in 2018 The food in MDR and Buffet was not good at all, it was rubbery and over cooked. The only good place to eat was in Alfredo's Pizzeria the food was good and it was hot we did use the Crown Grill for two nights and it is always very good and we had great service there. I tried the Trident Grill on two different days and both times there was only one man there to cook and serve. Long lines and long wait. The IC was and other place where we had troubles on the first day at sea I went to get Specialty coffee when I made my order I was told that there was NOT ANY LARGE CUPS and had to have regular cup. This was for the whole trip and ever one had bought coffee cards for the trip, but could only get regular cups of coffee. This with not being able to carry the coffee cards to next trip made it a bad deal. With all of this an other troubles, we did not get future cruise sales. We are going to try other lines that may have better service Read Less

We really wanted to love Princess. They charge and position their experience on par with other premium cruise lines. Let's not forget that Princess is owned by Carnival. We scored the Royal Princess two stars as a premium cruise ship - if they were a mainline cruise ship we would have scored them with 3 stars. First, items we appreciated: the spa was a good value and was overall a great experience, the adult pool wasnt always warm on cold sea days however we appreciated the relaxing option away from kids. Items that disappointed: Food was much better on Celebrity cruises in the main dining rooms, buffet and the specialty restaurants. We had rubbery veal one night, over cooked fish another night and a veggie burger that was essentially a mash potato patty. There were no egg white breakfast options, no turkey sausage or turkey bacon. No omelette station. We only have desserts on vacation so for us desserts are a highly coveted thing: the ice creams were consistently of the cheap variety that melted quickly and chocolate cake wasn't always available even in the buffet. The Afternoon Tea was a joke - all the items were readily available in the buffet. The ratio of server to table was terrible. We sat starving (we had skipped lunch for Tea.. we waited forever for food to come by our table and after 10 minutes of disappointment we went to the buffet. In all fairness we tried specialty dining for 3 nights and one of them was exceptionally good at Sabatini's. One of the main dinning meals on lobster night was pretty good. The phone app with their ship map didn't work except on the last day of the cruise. The tendering process was messy and took three hours to get everyone off at Cabo San Lucas. They used the life safety boats to get us off the ship and they were really slow. Consequently, we ended up missing half of our excursion. When we were tendered back to the ship they used a third party service which was much faster. So missing our excursion was entirely avoidable if they had planned ahead for the third party tendering service. The only logical explanation was a cost savings by using their own life safety boats. Comparing Princess with Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, we ranked Princess in last place for the overall culinary experience. Most days I like I was on a diet because menu options were generally unappealing. At the end of the day, we felt that being owned by Carnival was evident based on the many small details that when added up equalled a below average 7 day experience. Read Less

We sailed the Disney Fantasy this past December. There was Disney magic at every turn, we loved it. We are seasoned cruisers, with 75+ cruises. The Disney Wonder, where do I begin? The excellent: The Golden Mickey, Frozen and Dream shows. The character experiences and the Kids Club. The Bad: Very poor service in dining room, luke warm food to cold food. The taste was terrible. We never had our drinks refilled, pepper offered, minimal interaction with our table. On the Disney Fantasy, the staff are calling your by name, doing magic tricks with the kids etc. The food was very good on the Fantasy and it was served hot. The Cabana's food was just okay, like at a Denny's. Our stateroom host was friendly and kind. Our stateroom 7067 had mold around the tub. Screws falling out from door stops. The walls were beat up. He could never remember what time we had dinner however. Our stateroom would get cleaned about 2:00 pm or after. We would come back after eating at 5:30 and the 8:30 dinner shows and our stateroom would not have been turned down or cleaned from showers taken before dinner. Our ports were Cabo and Ensenada. Our granddaughter did the kids dolphin encounter ($100.00) at Cabo Adventures. She loved it and we loved watching her. The photos's were $300.00 Embarkation and disembarkation were seamless. We have done the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at the parks, about six times. On the Disney Fantasy once, and on the Wonder this pass cruise. Oh my, not the experience you pay for on the Wonder. On The Fantasy we bought the three trips into BBB, the pirate day was so fun on the Fantasy. Speaking of Pirate show. The Wonder's pirate night is NOT what you get on the Fantasy. It is one short show and no pirate buffet afterwards. Yes, no turkey legs. On the Fantasy you have a Character pirate show, then a big production of Jack Sparrow and friends show. All pirate buffet. The fireworks were the same. They are now giving you large containers of soap, shampoo and conditioner. No cute pillows on the bed of When you wish upon a star. DCL commands at least a 50% premium. I would NOT sail on the Wonder. I would sail on the Fantasy. No comparison. Read Less

We really wanted to love this cruise but Norwegian falls short. We upgraded to a balcony room to recieve the free at sea offers. Balcony room was good. It was very clean and our room staff was wonderful. We wanted to arrive in LA a couple days early but our flights could only be booked for 1 day early. I called 2 months early to ask if we arrived in LA early on our own, could we skip our departure and just use our return flight. I was advised to call when I arrived in LA, as long as i called within 24 hours of the flight I could cancel the departure. Well we arrived in LA only for norwegian to say sorry we dont care what we told you, we are cancelling your flights. So we had no flight home! When we got on board we stood in the long line to ask guest services if we had to use the shore excursions credit on shore excursions, or if it was a credit to our room. We were told it's just a credit to the room so throughout the cruise we thought we were using a credit, only to find out on the last day there was no credit because we didnt book any excursions. The food was by far the best part of the cruise. I would say even better than royal carribean. The entertainment was hit or miss. Overall the customer service felt like a cheap cruise. The staff seemed overworked and unhappy. Usually my favorite part of a cruise is meeting and getting to know the bartenders and wait staff but none of them were that personal. Overall it was a cheap smaller cruise with a company that needs to nickle and dime its customers to stay afloat. If your looking for a cheaper option I would recommend carnival everytime over norwegian we were not impressed at all. Read Less

We were on this ship last year and loved it so we booked again, they renovated the ship and it became worst, everything is very tight, tables in buffet are to close as well as around the pool, room steward was very slow and not very friendly, we had other issues and way to many to mention, the guy taking pictures asked to hold my phone which was clipped to my belt, so i let him, he dropped it and broke my clip, had to put my phone in my pocket for the remainder of our Cruise, Omelette Station needs to be improved, very confusing, not sure if we will sail Norwegian in the Future, 24 hour deli would not seat us @ 11:00 am because they were getting ready for their lunch menu to change, made no sense, open 24 hours but couldn't get a seat, they have also gotten rid of the slide at the pool. We expected magnificent decor but ended up on a Pink ship. The adult Serenity area was quiet but shabby. Deck chairs were splattered with paint. Cushions were worn, threadbare. Windows were hard to see through. There were worn rusted areas on the decks. Food on Lido deck was usually lukewarm or cold. Golden Pearl restaurant Creme brûlée’s was like my own egg custard, not real creme brûlée. Food was nice, but not at the level we expected. Strange decor looked like fried eggs overhead. The restaurant was a frustration just to get to as you have to go either down or up several decks to get to the back of the ship and then go back down... took us a while to find dinner. Kids took over main pool area. Extremely noisy. Impossible to use that pool. We will cruise with another cruise line. (Previously cruised on the Pride. It was a very different experience.) Read Less

We took this cruise to celebrate a friend's birthday. The cost was right and it seemed like a good time was awaiting us on the ocean. Let me start with, THE GOOD: Good friends Funny times at Karaoke The Tequila part of the Ensenada tour THE BAD: The food was awful. Dinner was not served on time nor at a temperature, you would consider "warm". On one evening, a friend paid for the upcharged "surf and turf", watched all of us eat our "lukewarm" meal, and still hadn't eaten his (after an hour and 25 minutes). Not until we got up to walk around and look for the food service manager did his food arrive. The service was forgettable. How do you include a gratuity on a final bill when the service you received was terrible. Water started with ice then, you'd receive a warm second glass. I'd ask for a coca cola and by the time we were ready to leave the table, the drink would arrive. The excursion is dangerous, in a sense. You take 20 people out to drink beer and tequila, then you entrust them to walk back to the boat on their own?!?! I get it, it's a tasting, but the sensible thing to do would be to make sure "EVERYONE" is transported back to the boat at the same time, the same way we left the boat... TOGETHER... Our bed felt like to twin mattresses pushed together and didn't offer a great rest. Read Less

I am a veteran when it comes to cruising. I have done over 20. Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Holland. This was my first and last on Princess. This ship was supposed to be refurbished but our bathroom smelled moldy. I have to steam and use fabreeze to try and fix the smell. I had heard that the service was ok in the beginning and tapers off towards the end of the cruise. That was exactly what happened. By day 4 the waiters in the Buffet areas were down right rude. I always pre-paid gratuities but this was the first time I had to fight myself not to have them taken off. This cruise closes down at midnight, no bars open, disco was dead and only played music from 60-80s. Bingo was over priced and the host talked non stop. It took over an hour to play 4 games. Only one live show in 5 days. The shore excursion desk took us to tender then told us to walk to dolphin encounters. They cut it so close , we never had time to shop. I was offered free play on my next cruise but I tore the paper up. I won’t ever go on princess again. Can’t give me a free cruise. Royal Caribbean or Carnival for me. Read Less

We stayed in the Deluxe Owners Suite. Our butler and housekeeping were top notch and need to be recognized as such. The concierge on the other hand completely abandoned her job when it came to my family and I. We had 3 of the 4 Deluxe Owners Suites and 3 other VIP rooms. Our group had a total of 11 rooms in the ship. One of the perks with the Deluxe Owners Suites is dinner reservations. Because NCL offered 3 days of ultimate dinning as a incentive perk to sell rooms on the ship they overwhelmed the premium restaurants on the ship, so my family and I who had purchased a total of 8 days of udp not only couldn't get into the restaurants, we left the ship with three unused udp dinners. All ports we visited were spectacular and fun. A "veterans" activity was in the schedule, it was at the 5 o'clock somewhere bar, the whole event was left to the veterans to manage. It was a very much missed opportunity. 4 of people in my group are coordinators for military reunions and all agreed NCL'S venue defiantly does not support any consideration when planning any reunions. I will say all the veterans made the best of the time. There was no assistance or help getting off the ship. In the past we have sailed in the Havens and Garden Villas and always could depend on our concierge, the ball was seriously dropped on this cruise. Read Less

It was a great deal for a 5-day cruise but you get what you pay for. PROS: Wonderful and friendly stewards, food, dining and entertainment staff Very nice ship Expedient embarkation and disembarkation process Lots of activities CONS: Wrong demographics for us. Passengers were older (senior citizens). Activities and entertainment geared towards this crowd. If you like to "party", this is not the cruise for you. Food was mediocre and bland - very similar to Hometown Buffet. Horizon Buffet, room service and dining selections not as good as Carnival, Royal Caribbean or Norwegian. Also, some items are not free so be careful. For example, gelato was $1.50 and select entrees at free dining cost between $19-$30. Can only get free glass of water and coffee in select areas. Otherwise, regular coffee was $1.25 and bottled water was $2. Only food available 24 hours on the ship outside of room service was International Café and it's menu is overrated. Not much selection. Room service takes between 45 minutes to one hour. 5-day cruise but only in Cabo Saturday 12 p.m. through Sunday 12 p.m. (24 hrs.). The remainder of the time is at sea. Our worst experience on this cruise was the Lotus Spa. My husband and I paid $159 for access to the retreat (steam rooms and sauna). 1. Front desk staff were curt and snobbish. They weren't welcoming and when I asked questions about particular services, I felt as if they were rushing to give me an answer and move on. They don't smile or welcome you as you come in. 2. Massage/therapy staff were loud. Called your names out loudly when it was your turn to receive service, making the "relaxation" room noisy. They also conversed with each other near clients which added to noise and distraction. If you weren't receiving a service but only there to relax, you were essentially ignored. They did not smile or acknowledge you. 3. Changing rooms were a mess. Bathrooms were dirty with toilet paper on the floor. Used robes and towels on seats and floor. Lockers did not work so we often had to have front desk staff take our valuables to watch. Since they were unwelcoming to begin with, they felt bothered by this request. 4. Clean glasses and tea/coffee cups were seldom replaced. At one point, I waited half an hour for a clean glass. I asked one staff member for a clean glass and she said "Just be patient." Wow! Meanwhile, dirty glasses and cups were piling up alongside banana and orange peels. 5. Robes were in bad shape - fraying and stained. Read Less

the once great Princess has now taken to cheapening the cruise experience and their management appears to have instituted nickel and dime philosophy which will probably lead to pay toilets :-). The Crown Grill has raised their prices. cut drastically the quality of their meats, changed the policy so that you can only order ONE man entree order whereas in the Main Dining room you can order as many entrees as you like for NO additional charge. Princess has decided to encourage brain dead morons with their face glued to their phones rather than the social graces of conversation. Case and point they have eliminated the buy one get one free drink hours that was the last bastion of meeting new people over CONVERSATION .. The great games we so enjoy like Trivia are now corrupted by these technology addicts who feel the need to cheat by using their phones to win a plastic coaster, water bottle , address book or wine stopper! Yet these losers seem to be the kind of morons the management of Princess Cruises wants to attract The quality of the shows has deteriorated , the cruise directors staff does nothing about the cheating, and can't explain the new Mystery game lol Princess in an effort to continue to reduce service and cheapen the experience has taken the best two GOOD meals....the Beef Wellington and the Lobster and made them available ONLY on the same night for dinner. We won't talk about the poor guest service people who are forced to lie to defend these new management practices.....Let's just say they try to make things right but are told not to put anything in writing so Princess can overcharge for services you've purchases like the drink package The Grand Princess was in horrific shape but we were told the ship was going to DRY DOCK for a makeover right after our cruise. Honestly it would take a month just to remover the rust around the balconies something I've never seen on any of my previous Princess Cruises. I use to love Princess, but there new management is determined to destroy a once great Cruise line to increase their salaries no doubt LOL The things Princess still does well are the Embarkation procedures and the staff and crew on the ships are top notch. Everything that is ruining the cruise experience on Princess is coming from management or should I say mismanagement ..It's a shame a bunch of management losers can do this to a once great line. They are doing their best to take the FUN out of cruising Read Less

So I would like to start with a positive. The embarkation process was super easy and organized this was better than on Celebrity, Royal , or Norwegian. We knew that this was an older ship and we really only booked this as a quick getaway from LA to a few places we’d never been to before. Upon arrival to our stateroom , the attendant (who was lovely) informed us that there was no hand soap. They were waiting for it to get on the ship but there wasn’t any yet. I immediately began to panic - if all 2,000 guests are using the bathroom and then not using hand soap , that’s a health issue. So I called guest services to inquire - she told me to use shower gel for now but that I most likely misunderstood the stateroom attendant bc he just didn’t have any on “his” cart. We were then given a bar for each of our staterooms. Day one - 15 minutes on the ship my son uses the bathroom and it begins to back up. We flushed again and it all went down - I blamed my son for maybe using too much paper but he swears he didn’t . Later on after dinner I come back to the room and use the bathroom and it flushed but then would t fill entirely up with water again. Well, I woke up at 4 am to the toilet backed up and a wet floor - I was nauseous thinking about this - called maintenance right away , they came and fixed it and then never cleaned it until our regularly scheduled housekeeping! This was now grossing me out. As we are disembarking in Catalina we had to wait for the tenders down this long corridor and the stench of sewage or garbage began to resonate , luckily before I hurled I remembered that we had laid “faster to the fun” pricing and asked if that meant we could board the tenders first - Thank God! The smell in that hallway where they had people waiting like cattle to board the tenders was unbearable. The smell of garbage lingered and got worse as we got closer to the end of the cruise. Other People on board noticed it too and a few who had been on this ship before thought it was normal. I have never been on a ship where the smell of raw sewage and garbage was ever prominent on guest decks. Bizzaro - Anywho the food was fantastic! The cantina was our favorite and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Orlando , the cruise director , must be the hardest working cruise director in crushing history. He was EVERYWHERE. He’s a sweet man and made everything fun. The shows for the little ones were great - the kids club watched movies and drew which my kids found boring , the casino was fantastic - Maggie was an amazing dealer who was friendly and personable. The Bingo situation seemed rigged to me - they had two bingos and the prize was supposed to be $5,000 - then each winner only won $250 - my kids were even like - wow what a letdown. Binging bradley went a little too fast on the end and never gave anyone a moment to “catch up” the numbers weren’t on the board while he was verifying - you kind of got the vibe that they didn’t want you to win lol. Which I guess they don’t . Anywho - this was my 2nd Carnival cruise and I loved the staff, the food , and the entertainment- but what are they doing about the most important aspect - hygiene?? Not the place you want to cut corners. We managed to enjoy our time - but I was severely disturbed by how dirty everything seemed . We sat by a window for dinner and you could not see at all out the window - it seemed to have Layers of grime on them. Sorrry if I’m being too harsh on this older ship - but you’ve got to make some changes. If this were my first cruise experience I would have to say - never again! Read Less

A 40th Birthday Celebration with nearly 20 friends was fun, but could've been a better experience. To be fair, this was my very first cruise, so I have no other cruise ships to compare it to, but I do have a lot of experience traveling as I work in the travel industry. Also, I set my expectation fairly low, and it was about accurate. The level that our cabin was located on, Floor 6, Upper Deck, smelled like raw sewage for the last 2 full days and had industrial equipment in the hallways, so I was not sure if something happened or if it is just a regular issue with that ship. FOOD The majority of the hot food was barely served warm, and the broccoli on my main entree plate in the fine dining room was still frozen. There was no sauce on my plate, so I just asked for a side of ranch dressing to add flavor. The baked potato was also cold in the middle. DRINKS The beer selection was fairly varied, in that they had a lager, an IPA, and even a gluten free beer, however, not a lot of craft beer options and the only draft beer I saw was the self serve Miller Lite in the buffet area. The higher end selection of liquor that was included in the adult drink package was great, but when I tried to order an Aperol Spritz, I had an issue with several bartenders, who gave me attitude because they were not allowed to mix a champagne cocktail, so one refused to even make the drink, and another would only give me a glass of champagne first, then wait 5 minutes to charge my drink card for a shot of Aperol on the side and a glass of ice, (there is a waiting period between the number of drinks a guest is allowed to consume in a certain time period). So, I then got charged for 2 drinks, and had to make the drink myself which was ridiculous! Also, it should be noted that this was my first drink of the day, so I was completely sober. ENTERTAINMENT The comedian was hilarious!! The dancers were great! I wish they had a movie theatre or better wifi. I bought the wifi package before I embarked but it was not working so well, so I cancelled it and just used the Carnival App to connect with friends. I made the mistake of staying on the ship when we arrived in Mexico, and there were very limited options of things to do for the day on the ship. The weather was super cold (50's) and really windy, so laying by the pool or going down the water slides was not really an option. The casino was closed, as were the shops and theatre's and even the majority of bars & restaurants were closed until the late afternoon. SAFETY The safety demo that was required, was completely pointless. They made us wait a really long time to even enter the theatre and then all they showed us was how to put on a life vest and kept us in there for far too long to be shown even that. Overall, I think I would go on another cruise line to be able to compare it, but I would never go on another Carnival Cruise again. Not my cup of tea. If you value food, aesthetics, and a higher caliber of service, pay a few dollars more and choose another cruise line. Read Less
