BAD POINTS: Very busy, packed with of out of control children. Irritating pop music being played constantly. Over-priced drinks (cheapest glass of wine $11) Over-priced Excursions Dreadful cabin TV. Sports channel repeats of old Everton-Liverpool matches Constant promotions for Bingo Constant promotions for Art Auctions (Park West) - and the auction practicing highly questionable practices, such as chandelier bidding and such like with the purposes of exploiting the naive and people with more money than sense to purchase quite dreadful 'works of art' The fact that the Tour Director Roberto actively promotes this company and its auctions make the Cruise line complicit in its activities. Constant selling. Outrageous $13 per day Service Charge+ 18% additional service charge on all purchases + 10% Italian Tax. In addition those charges applied for example to a drink bought in the restaurant does not include a tip (so what exactly is the 18% service charge for?), so you're also given a bill which makes it clear the tip is not included. Its all about making as much money as possible. All in all a dreadful experience Read Less

Cruise Review – MSC Magnifica These are our notes of the cruise. They are rather sketchy but this represents our cruise diary which we started on Saturday as soon as we realised that this would be an unusual cruise. Saturday Absolute chaos on arrival. No signage or staff to advise what was going on, just the first of many scrums. This is especially hard when travelling with someone with mobility issues. The ship has clearly lied about the first language of the ship being English. Everyone is speaking Italian. We feel like foreigners. No ship orientation. Not even given a map. The ship is very large and complex and yet no help was offered, no tours. Amazing. Sunday It's day 2 and this ship appears to be cross between a floating scam and a vast kindergarten so far its very grim - i would rather be at work its costing me 3.5 euros for 10 mins on the internet so i will keep this brief Getting attention generally very difficult. Always a long queue at the reception, from customers confused Waiters inattentive, bar staff more interested in selling drinks packages. Badgering passengers rather than serving them Very little thought for the disabled The place was packed, everyone fighting for seats and attention More like a floating butlins No magic Hugely oversold Serious language barrier, like the United nations The smallest tv in the room - uterly useless. from my bed my iphone has a bigger picture, which had no decent channels apart from sky news and couldn't be connected to any other devices No signage andNo guides for embarkation, which was utter chaos No provision for the disabled No proper welcome. No personal attention . no orientation so spending hours simply finding our way around Everything in Italian Sitting about waiting Queuing Herded like cattle All seems very amateur Charge of 29€ to access a steam room Despite a boat of 3000 people there wasn't an English tour bus, information in Spanish No attempt to put Brits together, spent day 1 with spaniards herds of children eveywhere, no peace and quiet no matter where you go on the plus side, the food is good (when you fight your way through the crowds for it) and then search for a table the staff are nice but many dont really know what the are doing, ask for a latte and i got a glass of milk basically like being trapped in a school playground for a week. there are about 3x mor people on the ship than many of the facilities can accommodate Sunday - Bari Monday A mindless performance of “Romeo and Juliet” which lasted just 40 minutes. Alternative sections were in English and Italian, making the performance incomprehensible for everyone who couldn’t speak both languages. Very little story content, mostly visual and aimed at kids. In the evening I started a review on cruise critic using the internet terminals in the “cyber café”. The connection was slow and so it took me 30 minutes to write it. The ship then charged me 13euros for this 30 minute session. 13 euros for 30 mins. This reveals the level of robbery that MSC is involved in, when they charge such a scandalous sum for a basic service that should be included for free. And because the service is poor (slow) I have to pay extra!! These people are clearly thieves. Tuesday – Katakolon No shuttle bus or staff when we got outside the ship so we made a very slow walk to the local town. Not long in port so we had a drink and returned to the ship Wednesday- Mykonos Finally a good length of time in port. We had a full day to explore the town and utilised a free bus arranged by the town along the promenade. Thursday – Athens £40 for a bus tour. Just a few hours in Athens since ship departed at xxx. We then set sail for Dubrovnik travelling at a snails pace, Clearly going very slow in order not to arrive until Friday. Friday – At sea Very little activity on board for the elderly. Very noisy all day with the cruise director screaming into the microphone in Italian making half of the ship unusable its hard to believe we paid for this holiday - we would not be happy if we had got this holiday free - we would still want to leave Friday – Dubrovnik Again, no provision for the disabled or those with mobility issues. On the bus at 8:45AM and into Dub at 9am, but allowed just 4 hours to see this historic city. Last shuttle bus at 1:15pm. Cost £40 for a 90minute tour of 4 adjacent buildings and the rest of the time free. Just enough time to visit a couple of tourist shops and have a beer. Visits to two great cities were cut impossibly short so that we could spend 36hours cruising the Adriatic at a snail’s pace between Athens and Dubrovnik. On Friday night I asked at the reception what was the plan for Saturday, and why we were being ejected from the ship at 8am when the flight the cruiseline had booked didn’t depart till 5:30. The lady behind reception looked a bit lost. She told us we would be at the airport by 11, and could then stow our bags and spend some time in venice. Sat – venice and departure The minibar was locked shut whilst we were at dinner. If we thought the cruise could not be any worse we were about to be proven wrong. We were asked to leave our suitcases outside our doors on Friday night for them to be taken ashore. Seemed like a pointless exercise and indeed it was. We were asked to vacate our rooms by 8am on the Saturday! Never have I found a hotel with such an early checkout. We then had to join a long queue to settle our onboard expenses at the reception desk. We found a mystery charge of 9euros per person per night for “service charge” despite the lack of service during the cruise. This was a total of 9x2x7 = Again no provision for the disable at the homeward departure. We were herded into an enclosure where we had to look for our suitcases and then into a long queue for a bus. We were on the bus about 910 and at the airport about 9:30. There was no-one at the airport and the assurance of facilities for our bags turned out to be a lie. We could not check in until 2:20. We had a total of 8 hours in the airport. In order to get a seat in the café we had to order food and drinks, since the seating prior to check in was none-existent apart from this café. After sitting in a café for 5 hours we then checked in at 2:20 and sat around for another 3.5 hours, since our flight was delayed till 6:15. The good food is good and the bar drinks are reasonably priced, although charging 15% service charge at the bar is rather shoddy. The daily pianist or harp at 6pm was nice (although the screaming children ruined it several times) The bad The lowlights: children running and screaming at all times. All excursions and movement was surrounded in chaos, with little signage or direction. We dined alone on a large table 4 nights of the 7 as dining companions ate at the buffet. The Maitre D should have spotted this and rearranged the table plan. So we were denied the change to meet other guests at dinner. Very poor organisation. The coffee provided with breakfast or in the buffet was terrible. Forget Italian quality coffee! All announcements in 5 languages so very long and intrusive. The internet is very poor here. The terminals are slow and VERY expensive. The wifi is expensive for the good quality. Constantly being gouged for money. Forced to pay for water at meals (which is against maritime law). Charged silly prices for the excursions, which are short and chaotic. Charged 15% “service charge” even for bar drinks. A mystery 9Euro per person per day “service charge” added at the end of the cruise. Too much to mention in full, but I will write a full diary and publish in the travel press if MSC do no promise to make changes. In summary This is a cruise company with serious problems. Very amateurish. Many staff are unsure what they are doing and there are few processes in place. Trial and error seems to be the principle of management. MSC have mis-informed and mis-managed for the whole week. The firm is always grasping money off customers, and is basically a floating mafia operation. We get the impression that the MSC cruise ship operation is drowning, their head is under water. They do not have the skill to manage such a large and complex operation. They run from crisis to crisis because of lack of organisation. There is no education on the cruise, no attempt to inform passengers about the destinations. The theatre shows are all aimed at children. The whole experience was impersonal. No one to greet us. Handed a newsletter every night, and have to queue at a reception to gat any more information. When you get to the front of the queue you often are sent elsewhere or get no clear answer. The whole cruise was a waste of time. We all regret booking with MSC. Please use another cruise line. Avoid this company like the plague. Needless to say it will be our lifes work to make MSC cruises suffer as much as we have, and to help others avoid this shipwreck We suggest you dig a hole in the ground, fill it with water and sit in it for a week - you will have a better holiday than on this ship Read Less

Twenty cruises with various companies first and last with thompson dream, from day one smell of sewage in cabin and corridor, asked to be moved but no response from anyone ,booked an outside cabin but needn't have bothered the window was so dirty inside and out we couldn't see through it.In the main restaurant first night we were asked we would like some water which we accepted only to be told after it was poured we would have to pay for it as it was bottled. After the waiter had sold everyone the bottled water another waiter appeared with free iced water in a jug, a blatant attempt to sell water to unsuspecting passengers. Most of the public toilets seemed to be out of order for most of the cruise and no one seemed to want to remedy the problem .The buffet was like a school canteen with wait times up to 30 minutes, the food quality was very poor and mostly bland and tasteless, the first cruise I have actually lost weight on.hygeine amongst the cleaning staff is none existent with cleaners seen using the same cloth to clean handrails as to clean the toilets leaving most surfaces sticky to the touch.value for money ? no.helpful staff ,no. Complaints are ignored.First bad experience on a cruise but it will not put me off going with better cruise lines. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the destinations, and because we had sailed Celebrity on one other occasion and it was amazing. Embarking was fine. However once at our room we realized the ship was in very poor shape, and needed either to be refitted or retired. Our balcony was very dirty, rust in all the corners, couldn't see through the glass on the balcony because it was so dirty (this was a continuing theme on this ship). The show in out suite had mold in the corners, the walls of the shower itself were pulling apart. The sheet on our bed had a big black mark on it. The sheets weren't changed until day 4-5. There was no information in our room about either the ship or the cruise. Yes, we got the daily news letter, but that was no help, in finding our way around the ship, or what was available and where. Extremely disappointed with this. One thing we were looking forward to, was of course the food. What a great disappointment that was. On our previous cruise with Celebrity (5 years ago) the food was second to none. This trip the choices were limited, and very poorly cooked. We had dinner in the main dining room 5 fives. Three out of 5 times, our meals had to go back, either over cooked or under cooked. At one point the restaurant manager brought the chef to our table. The chef asked us to ask for our meals to be cooked by him so there was no further problems. The problem was out waiters would not pass this information on. The tableclothes in the main dining room are very old and had many many pulls in the material. I would throw this out at home, not use for company. You could barely see out the windows, again because they were so dirty. We had two wonderful meals in the Oceanliner restaurant, the food was wonderful, service was excellent. However when you pay for a cruise you expect all the food to be good. The food in the main banquet was good at breakfast. We did find that the food being served during the rest of the day was out of sync. When we came back from our tours, they were serving hot meals. What we wanted was something small like sandwiches or cheese tray. The pizza bar was usually closed. How many hot dogs can one eat. The desserts were subpar with what Celebrity used to provide. Very disappointing. Other cruises that me meet in the restaurants, bar, by the pool, mentioned without exception how disappointed they were with the ship and the food as well. I hope others will be posting their comments. The service on the ship was excellent, with the exception of the laundry. We sent clothes to be steamed, they were returned creased, and one clean blouse was actually dirty when we received it. We booked this cruise because of the destinations (assuming the ship would be beautiful). Day one was Zadar, Croatia. We have previously been to Turkey which we loved and were looking forward to this. We did have a wonderful tour to the national park with beautiful waterfalls. It would have been nice we we have been informed that you could swim at the end of the tour. Again no tour details in your cabin or online. It was over 100 degrees. I went in the water up to my knees in my dress. But if anyone is going there please know to wear your bathing suit under your clothes. It is a beautiful site for swimming. Next however was the town of Zadar. Zadar has a wonderful sea organ that takes 2 minutes to see and hear, it is amazing. Then for the rest of the day, there is nothing else to do in town. There are 4, yes 4, historical buildings left in town. The town was bombed numerous things in WW2, and all the old buildings are gone. Why did the ship not go to Dubrovnik? Where there are numerous sites to see and things to do. Other ports where beautiful, but with very little to see or do. Guides on the tours were great and friendly, however you can only do so much when there is nothing to see. Read Less

We have in the past crossed the Atlantic with Cunard and decided to do a med cruise as a first because we liked the itinerary. We Choose P&O Oceana and we where not disappointed, The flights transfers and embarkation were seamless. Although Oceana is an older ship she is in surprisingly good condition apart from some cosmetics which can be easily overlooked. Our cabin was not overly spacious but was more than adequate for us, we had a small balcony with chairs and a small table, the space was comfortable to sit out and watch the world go by. We close freedom dining in the Liguna restaurant which was excellent the quality and presentation of the food was first class. With the exception of one day we had breakfast in the buffet restaurant the selection and quality was very good this restaurant was very busy at certain times but we always managed to find a seat and did'nt have to queue overly long. The entertainment and shows where fist rate, and there was always a venue which showed the euro 2016 football. P&O should be proud of the crew who were always helpful, courtious and professional. The day trips organised by P&O were very good we took the introduction to Rome, Sorento and pompei, Florence and Pisa. Read Less

Everything on the Ship was an upsell. The shore tours always ended up in a shopping precinct somewhere recommended by Celebrity. Information Events on the ship always ended with a option to buy something. They pushed the future cruises and littered main thoroughfares with overprices merchandise. Buy the premium drinks package but limited bars were open and very few staff to tend those bars. Main dining was ordinary so we mainly ate in the Buffett area. The main entertainment consisted of just singers and solo acts that failed to capture the imagination. As space around the pool is limited you had to resort to playing either Bingo or Trivia around other parts of the ship. Basically I was bored while on the ship and I could not wait to get off the ship to explore the new region we docked. If sitting around doing nothing is for you then go for it but I know I wont be cruising ever again. Read Less

OMG have cruised before but not with Royal Caribbean and never again. Spent my whole cruise in long ques for food, drinks, on and off ship, toilets, lifts, guest services and activities. What can I say, I can only describe it as the cruise from hell and if I could have got off and gone home I would have. They were completely over capacity and not enough crew. Guest services really did not care what you complained about, food was dreadful (something you would get in a canteen in the windjammer) which was aptly named and it was always jam packed, unable to find table and constant tannoy asking people to get up and leave their table as soon as they had eaten, no relaxing then. Dinner was no better as qued constantly to get into Romeo and Juliet dining room sometime for one hour and having an autistic child this did not go down well. Were overcharging on the bills and double charging and yes, even though we had a drinks package we were still charged for all drinks we had in the dinning room. Even though we had paid all gratuities up front we were again still charged in the dinning room gratuities if we ordered something different from the main menu even though it was charged for extra. Kids could not get on the activities available as long ques, there were over 1,400 children on board, kids clubs could not cope and sometimes there was a ratio of 1 to 15 in the 3-5 clubs, which is totally unacceptable. Teen club had nothing much on until the evening, 8-11 appeared to just play dodge ball for a week so kids got bored with this quickly. Whilst I cannot hold them responsible for the weather which was dreadful and 11 degrees all cruise, this meant that people stayed on board yet they still proceeded to play the movies on the pool deck (deck 11) where you would freeze to death or get blown away, only on day 5 did they decide to change things and put the movies on in the pyramid lounge inside (where it was warm). Most staff appeared miserable and some were downright rude. I paid just under £4,000 for one room with 2 adults and 2 children, inside cabin and booked direct with Royal Caribbean and there appeared to be a very different price paid if you booked with anyone else. Prices per person were from £399 to £750 and only those who booked with them direct appeared to have been ripped off, with everything. Whilst I agree you only get what you pay for and if you had only paid £1,600 for 4 of you then you could not complain but when you have paid nearly £4,000 then you expect something better. I have previously cruised with Disney and if I had to rate both cruise lines and would say Disney are 5* and Royal Caribbean less than 1*. Even people who had cruised many times with them were complaining and saying they would not again, certainly on this ship. Normal ratio for crew to guests is 2 to 1, I would hazard a guess that it was probably half of this on this cruise. Bars were manned most of the time by one crew member and when ship was in port, even though it was so cold you could not get off they had one bar open with one member of staff on. Getting off was just as bad. I can honestly say that I must have spent half of my cruise queing and the other half complain with a could not care less attitude so for me I certainly would not cruise with Royal Caribbean again. To give you an idea of the amount of complaints, the service desk was never empty there were even ques at 2.00 am in the morning, I guess this tells a story, one that says don't cruise on Independence of the Seas unless you want a cruise from hell. Never seen so many people cancel their gratuities although customer service did not care as one told me "I get paid a salary so I don't care if they cancel it does not affect me" how disrespectful to all the other crew as I am sure it matters to them but then again if they provided the service and quality of food you expect having paid £4,000 then you don't mind tipping. Do not even consider a Silversea cruise. It is a totally regrettable experience not to mention the added pain of the exorbitant cost. The representations in Silversea's literature and website couldn't be further from the reality. We also relied on the agent's endorsement of its small ship cruising luxury and service etc and did not do our own research much to our cost and disappointment. Three couples we met endured burst water pipes in their rooms during the night which flooded their floors. The entire ship had only freezing cold water for over 24 hours with absolutely no updates or communication from staff. We paid extra for a veranda suite on level 7 and were glad of the small extra space and air. The corridors on the lower levels smell damp and dirty. The laundry facilities are 4 washing machines, 2 of which were out of order for the entire cruise. Overall, the decor is very dated, sad and shabby. There are a selection of mediocre dining options. However, we were told by staff that you needed to book and couldn't just turn up even though they were mostly empty when we arrived in the evenings. So, we would call the restaurant late morning/lunchtime to book a table for 7.00pm. We then without fail received a telephone call in our room at between 6.00pm – 6.30pm to advise that unfortunately the restaurant was now fully booked and there was no table available! The third time this happened we went straight down to the restaurant and absolutely insisted on a table. The restaurant was at no stage busy when we arrived or during our short visit. Overall the food quality is very ordinary, the food is frozen not fresh, which we can live with, but customer service is non-existent. We ate where possible off the ship. The so called "butler service" is good to bring an early breakfast to your room if you leave a completed menu card on your door but don't try to locate him at any other time. Not so important to us but worth a mention- the entertainment options are embarrassing old-school, repetitive and cater for an age group 70+. We cannot stress to you enough - do not waste your money or your time, the marketing material and all their representation to induce you to book an extremely expensive holiday are a total con. This was my 1st cruise my mam has done several cruises and wanted us to experience one,i was so disappointed found the security staff quite rude when getting on ship,a smile wouldn't go amiss, room was ok and kept nice by staff,i never imagined so many older people thought it would of been a mixed age group,a lot of them were very rude, not a lot to do on there,as I'm a non drinker and not a gambler I was very bored, could never get a seat in the buffet,1 morning I stood eating my porridge, but what was annoying was people had finished there breakfast but wouldn't move to let others sit down, wasnt impressed with food, and while you are eating the staff are trying to clear your plates from under you,i got quite stressed on this cruise, trying to get a settee to sit on during the day to have a read was impossible as they had walking sticks on them but nobody was there,if you smoke please take cigarettes with you as you can only buy marlbrough lights which we don't like, you can buy 200 in shop on board but they only allow you 1 packet out of them till your cruise is over,it felt like we were at school again, this cruise is money money money, having to pay for transfers from the dock to the town your visiting,i wish I could say something nice about this cruise but sadly it was a waste of money, seen 1 good show tom jones tribute, but once again it was getting a seat again, lifts were difficult to get in with all the wheel chairs, wouldnt recommend this cruise for young people,we are 53 but just didn't fit in, Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary which was fantastic, we were on the adriatic explorer cruise. The ship on the other hand was a nightmare not a dream. We complained on numerous occasions about the smell of cigarette smoke in our cabins, our cabins were inside cabins so the smoke couldn't have come in from a window or anywhere other than the air con. We were asked if we were smoking in our cabins, as if we would complain if it was us who were smoking in there, we are all non smokers. We rang reception at 11pm one night and someone came down straight away and admitted they could smell the cigarette smoke 5 minutes later the cabin boy came with an air freshener tin to get rid of it. Haha everyone knows you can't get rid of the smell of stale cigarette smoke with air freshner it just masks it for that period of time. We also complained about the vibration from the engine which was always at night our bodies were still vibrating for a while after, the noise and vibration made it impossible to sleep, most nights the whole cabin vibrated and shook all night. These cabins should never be sold to paying customers. If we had had these rooms cheap then that would have been our fault but we paid as much for this holiday as we would have with a 5* cruise company. It has taken them 3 months to acknowledge our complaints and we had an email today to say that the smell of cigarette smoke was resolved by them spraying the cabins with air spray. What a joke we were offered 65 pound between 4 adults in 2 cabins off our next cruise with them. It's not the money it's the principle. Their after cruise care is shocking once they have your money the don't give a damn. Also the other disappointing aspects of this cruise was the fact you had to wait for 20 minutes most nights to get a drink as lack of staff not lack of enthusiasm from the staff. Read Less

Worst cruise ever been on. Service was dreadful, if you were lucky enough to find a wine waiter, you had to wait ages for drinks. Gave up on occasions and queued at the bars along with others who had the same idea. One of our party reported a waiter for rudeness! The ship was very understaffed, staff seemed as if they had received littlr training, very few smiled or even looked as if they were enjoying their job. Reception - sometimes if you asked a question, staff didn't seem to know the answer, in fact, on one occasion was asked to go back the next day because she didn't know the answer. Attitude of reception staff was at times abrupt and most unhelpful. Poorly trained in customer service. Food in the buffet area was often lukewarm. Restaurant food was good as was the service. Both waiter, assistant waiter and wine waiter were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble, in fact standard of service you would expect on a cruise ship. Entertainment as always brilliant. Very high standard and very professional. Having been on the Celebration last year this Dream cruise was shocking and very disappointing. Certainly no dream!! This will be the last Thomson cruise I will do! I certainly wouldn't recommend Thomson cruises. Unfortunately many people on board were on their first cruise and after their Dream experience will not do another one! What a shame. I have been on many cruises and this was the worst yet. Hopefully Thomson will do something about these complaints. Read Less

Having been on a number of Thomsons cruise in the past (with no problems) we decided to try the Enchanting Vistas repositioning cruise on the Dream. Wish we hadn't bothered now. The only good thing about that ship was disembarkation! The food was sub-standard, often cold (custard mainly). Lobster on the Captain's night was so tough and overcooked that it was impossible to cut! Bread was sweet, toast was pre-cooked the night before for breakfast the following morning (we saw and asked), desserts, ok so a cupcake is nice but....... The ship lost a third of it's staff in Palma before setting off and was full of trainees who didn't have a clue. You could die of thirst waiting for waiters in the lounges! Reception staff were either trainees or didn't wear name badges. Tour to Sorrento and Pompeii was a farce, under an hour in Sorrento??? issues with guide in Taormina! Now I got a refund on 1 tour which left my onboard account at a minus figure and was given cash back but I have appending amount of £15 in my bank account, so watching that. Family had £1 to pay, had £14 pending but have had £22 taken out so all going on a complaint to Thomsons. This ship has rotting windows, rust and is shabby. Needs a total refit to be any good, ship and staff! Book any other ship but this. Credit however does go to Carlos in the main Restaurant, his professionalism and witty charm made our evening meals a pleasure (even if the food lacked quality). His trainee Luis was also very very good and saw a big improvement during the week, again credit to Carlos who works extremely hard (as do all wait staff) to make sure your evening meal goes smoothly. This cruise should never have been allowed to sail, the staff were simply not prepared/trained to deal with a full ship of passengers. Disgusted at Thomson right now and will not be considering another cruise with them for a very long time, if ever! Read Less

We chose this cruise as Thomson had always been pretty good. WHAT ON EARTH HAS HAPPENED TO THEM? For a start the food was absolutely abismal. Horrible overcooked vegetables, terrible meat dishes which were sometimes unrecognizable as to what they were, and the salads hardly non-existent unless you love eating lettuce all the time. The desserts were like something you would have at a kids birthday party, e.g. jelly, sponge cakes. I ended up eating cheese and biscuits every night and managed to get decent food when going on shore. By the way even the cheese was the same three types night after night. This is the only cruise I have been on where I actually LOST WEIGHT! As for the drinks, the wine was served in minute glasses (nearly gone in three sips) but charged at what you would get a decent sized glass in a pub. We ended up buying wine on shore at a fraction of the ones on board. The cabin was ok but the ship is in need of a big facelift. As for the entertainment, that was pretty good but very had to find somewhere to sit if you didn't get in at least half an hour before it started. Seems like Thomson just wants to make as much money as it can squeeze out of everybody and the whole lot has gone to pot. Most disappointed and will never go again. Read Less

As an Australian traveling to Europe, it is a long and expensive holiday to take. I was so excited to be visiting the Mediterranean with my family for 4 weeks; but the dreams of having a restful, stress free holiday was not meant to happen on board MSC’s Fantasia. My cruise dates and destinations 17-27 December 2015 (Italy/Greece/Greek Islands/Israel) 27 December-07 January 2016 (Italy/Spain/Portugal/Canary Islands) PASSPORTS - Passages of Non-European passports holders (Australians/NZ/Americans/Japanese etc) BEWARE MSC retains your passport for the duration of the cruise. You are not entitled to have your passport. When I questioned it on the embarkation day, the staff could not tell me why they needed to retain them. But I could not board unless I handed it over to them. This meant that when I was at port off board, I did not have a passport with me. My question is How is this safe for non-European travellers when off board the ship? What happens if you fail to make it back in time to re-embark on the ship and you are stranded without a passport???? - The immigration process for Israel- this was a joke! It took 80mins to wait in a ridiculously long line of unhappy people. It was hot and very uncomfortable for all passengers. Then to find only 3 MSC staff handing passports out to passengers, while there were numerous Israeli officials siting waiting for passengers to have their passports checked. What is the logic behind that management when you have 4000+ passports to process? FOOD & DRINKS - The dining experience is poorly coordinated and service is slow and usually plate placement is incorrect. - No matter if you ate in the restaurant, café or buffet the food always was served warm or cold (when it should be hot – I am actually surprised I did not get food poisoning). - Day two on the first cruise my sisters cocktail package coupons were stolen. When we asked reception to follow up, they said there was nothing they could do. MSC showed no accountability to track the coupons. They said it was impossible to do (even though each coupon package had their own unique code, that should be easily traced to the person who stole them). - Furthermore, what is with the paper coupons for packages???? For a so called state of the art ship, you would think they would have ventured into the 21st century world of utilising technology to deliver packages to passengers. Paper seems to be their go to solution for all services on board. DISEMBARKING - Health and safety is not paramount when disembarking at each of the ports. It was a danger battle ground of push and shove. An elderly lady had fallen in stampeded at the Israel port. No one (not even staff) apart from my family went to her rescue. - The day of our departure disembarking, there was no signage to direct you how to get transport out of the terminal. We waited 1 hour to just get a shuttle bus out to the entrance of the port. Again no one from MSC were managing the crowd of hundreds of passages. It was absolute mayhem. We had to give up waiting cause passengers were unfairly pushing in and fighting to get onto the buses. And they were not allowed to call taxis into the terminal area. So we had to walk 20 minutes with our suitcases to the entrance of the port. Disgraceful! CUSTOMER SERVICE Due to the lack of problem solving, concern or consideration at reception desk for issues that we was faced with on board the MSC Fantasia; I ended up having to contact the complaints department back in Australia on day 4 of our holiday. Day 6, the Guest Relations Manager requested to see me to discuss my complaints. I felt like I was sent to principal’s office for doing something inappropriate. The manager did not have resolutions for me, just EXCUSES! Then my waiter and cabin attendant told me they got into trouble, which was never my intention. The issues I addressed in my email to the complaints department was directed at the management team about their poor administration and communication with their passengers and ground staff. A Few Positives…(but not enough to counteract significant issues that I had to endure for 21 days) - Port days at the islands and cities (was the best part, cause I was not on the ship) - Friendly ground staff (bar/restaurant/cabin attendants). - Delicious cocktails (as it helped to ease my experience while at sea) - Public areas are impeccably clean and tidy (mainly because those poor staff were slave laboring 12-16hour days) Read Less

You are over the age of 70 and like being rude to people. Then this is the cruise for you! Overall, the cruise was boring, the people on the cruise were rude, old people, the ship is old, bathroom too small, RC charges for EVERYTHING (ironing services, dinner options, coffee at dinner, room service costs after midnight), and the list goes on and on. PLEASE get your money back and do not go on this cruise. If I can save someone their time, energy, and money, then I've done my job. If I could rate this a zero, then I would. During one of the shows, the string quartet made a statement/joke about how the splendor of the seas was a floating prison, and I could not agree more. I was ready to get off the boat on day 2! Here are a list of just a FEW issues I had with them: 1. Have more activities and entertainment. 2. Have more activities and entertainment that is geared to a younger audience. 3. Have a movie theater or playing movies on the lido deck. 4. Have a midnight buffet like most other cruise lines. 5. The itinerary for the different locations was terrible. We did not have enough time at the ports (esp Athens). 6. Housekeeping would never answer the phone and we tried to call several times. 7. The shows/performances were boring and of low quality. They were very amateurish. People were falling asleep during the shows. 8. There were gnats or some small, flying insects in our bedroom. I swear I was getting bitten at night while in bed. 9. Sheets had dried blood and other nasty, questionable stains on them. These were supposed to be "clean" sheets placed on our beds. 10. Better channels on the tv in the room (and additional movie channels besides TCM -- again catering to the older population). 11. The dance "club" played terrible music and the dj would not play the songs we requested. 12. Not enough seating in the Windjammer. Also, it would be nice to have additional food options on the lido deck every day. 13. We only had 3 animal towels during our 7 day cruise. On other cruises, I'm used to getting one every day and sometimes more than one a day. 14. The cruise director was not good. He didn't seem genuine or a good director. I've seen MUCH better on other cruise lines. Plus, I did not know who the cruise director was until maybe day 3. 15. On other cruise lines, they typically have a day where the serve lobster FOR FREE during dinner. RC wants to charge for EVERYTHING and therefore, it was on the menu every day at a cost. 16. The quiet zone was pointless. You could have a movie playing or some other fun activity going on during that time. 17. A/C did not properly work in our stateroom. 18. The agenda/daily activities overlapped with our dinner time, and therefore we would miss shows. 19. The food was not good on the boat. I was unimpressed with the food options. 20. There are additional issues, but I will stop here for now. Overall, I was not pleased with my experience with RC. I do not plan to go on a RC cruise again. I also will be posting a trip advisor report letting others know of the "not so pleasant" experience I had on RC. I have cruised on several Carnival cruises, and I had a wonderful experience EVERY TIME. I was never bored, I had plenty of food options, and the entertainment was entertaining. RC, on the other hand, was the first cruise where I was not happy and I was extremely bored. One experience that really rubbed me and my group the wrong way was at the photo department. I took a picture (with my camera phone) of one of my pictures (because I did not see the sign that said not to take pictures). The photo guy came to me and said security saw me and to delete the picture. I did not appreciate his approach, but I deleted the picture anyways. A few days later, one of my cruising friends went to view her pictures. She noticed that NONE of our pictures were up there. She went to the guy and asked him about it. She had him print out all of her pictures. Come to find out, they pulled all of our pictures and did not place any of our pictures up for viewing. Not only that, but they removed other people's pictures that was not even there when the "incident" went down. I felt like they were profiling and discriminating against our group and anyone who was with us (regardless of whether they were there or not). This is unacceptable behavior from a company, and I feel that there was racial profiling taking place. It's not fair to other people in our party that they get "punished" for something they were not even involved in. The fact that the photo guy thought he was "punishing" us was petty and unnecessary. It was not that serious. However, they felt that they needed to do that. RC will not be getting my business again. Also, I will be sure to tell others of this experience. I'm sticking with Carnival and other cruise lines. Read Less

having had an excellent cruise last year on the MSC Divina we decided to give MSC another go so we booked a week on the MSC Musica sailing from Venice on the 8/11/2015. well what a disappointment that was. where shall I start, lets start with the plus's the cabin was very clean and reasonably spacious and the majority of the staff were pleasant and helpful . sorry I cannot think of any more. the shower cubicle was tiny and had a shower curtain which stuck to you all the time. the buffet was a complete shambles, overcrowded, nowhere to sit and virtually the same meals every day. the hot water stations were always closed for maintenance so they used urns which held lukewarm water no good for making tea. the restaurant had 2 sittings 18.30 and 21.00 as 18.30 was too early for us we chose the 21.00 sitting, well we were still eating at 23.00 the table we sat on was squashed in the corner so the waiter was unable to walk around and was passing meals over people sitting. the portions were very small so you needed to order extra meals and the quality was average. I have seen better entertainment on Britain's got talent and that's saying something, with the exception of the 3 girl acrobats who got into some unbelievable positions. The ports where tenders were used (3 of them) was a free for all, even though I got up at the crack of dawn to get an early tender ticket there was no organisation and everybody just pushed in. The guest services people showed an uncaring attitude and were not really concerned about your complaints. we had 3 days of balcony maintenance (painting) on a 7 day cruise. WORD OF WARNING if you book on board credit online before your cruise you have to make sure you spend it all otherwise they keep it as its non refundable, something I was unaware of as I could not see it written down anywhere.BE AWARE the all inclusive drinks package is fine but there are a lot of drinks not included even fresh orange. I'm sorry to have to write this and perhaps add to Costas problems, however I believe people should be able to make an informed decision. We went on this cruise with no prior views on the changes Costa has made in recent months. On the good side we booked directly with costa UK and got a good bargain for a premium balcony cabin. if I had paid any more I would probably be more scathing in this review. Embarcation was a shambles. Rome was not the main port for embarcation, but i still ended having to queue in 4 different wrong lines after being directed by costa staff. All costa seemed to be interested in was to sell the all inclusive beverage package, which compared to other lines seems to be a good deal. This being the case, there was only water available during breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. Tea and coffee was only available at breakfast time and during afternoon tea. Any other time it had to be purchased. Unless you had purchased the package or had the USA water exemption, water had to be purchased at dinner. Food at night was good, however if you missed your set dining, the only other option was to pay for food. Don't know what happened if you were on a costa excursion and came back after your seating time however. Lunch was varied, but with the same choices every day. Breakfast was diabolical. If you wanted anything either than a continental breakfast, the dining room was an option serving "International" fare. This was wait served And consisted of a full English - bacon, eggs, terrible brownish coloured beans etc., if for example you did not want eggs, this was not an option - you always had to have the lot as it was a preset plate. A Belgian breakfast - waffle and synthetic cream, an AMerican breakfast - pancakes and maple syrup and I can't remember what else as after the second day of trying to queue, and it was a long queue, I lost the will and kept to the buffets at the Lido. These were the same every day, nothing varied whatsoever, but you could get tea, coffee, water and concentrated fruit juices -until they turned the machines off. Entertainment was dire. Ok if you liked to hear the same Italian songs sung by different singers. There were good acts, one female singer, one male singer, an illusionist that was good but there was a lot of walking and prancing about, a variety show that was saved by a man using members of the audience and proceeding to pick their pockets. The dancers were average and unfortunately they put a show on every other day. There was major uncertainty about the itinerary, one of the stops was Ashdod, but this was cancelled. We were notified at embarkation therefore had no time to rearrange any private tours. Seems ironic that they could email me to remind me to book costa tours and the beverage package but not about things like rescheduling stops. At nine o clock when we were having dinner, either the day prior to a sea day, or the day before, the stop, I'm sorry I can't remember, but the port of Crete was cancelled due to industrial action at the port and was replaced with santorini. All in all the cruise was turning into a mystery tour! We had no choice but to book a costa tour for a full day in Galilee on the 7th November, but this was excellent due to the guide. We also had a wonderful meal at a hotel, which to be honest was the best meal we had all trip. They took our passports off us at embarkation and kept them until we got to Isreal despite us requesting them back for when we went ashore. We asked what would happen if we missed the ship at one of the ports, we were told that our costa card would be sufficient. I can just imagine how that would go down if we tried to book an airline ticket! The queue to get the passport back was incredible. All in all any arrangement by costa was shambolic, but no one seemed to care. I talked to several people who, for them, this was their first cruise, and have stated that they will never cruise again. Shame, as it's a wonderful experience. The entertainment staff in general were noisy, shouting even when they had microphones. One good thing though was if you liked ballroom dancing, they did actively encourage it with lessons on Deck and dance partners in the evening. This seemed to be enjoyed by a lot of people. If you want a library book - forget it, take your own. If you want games, unless you booked them out early you had no chance. All in all we have cruised with costa 4 times now, and this will be the last unless they get their act together. Read Less

Having been on other cruises, my dad pay £19,000 for a family cruise last week on the splendour of the seas, however it was the worst cruise and a real let down, causing disappointment to the whole family including the kids. Firstly the safety brief was very disorganised being in a row of 4 and not even being told were our life jackets were, we didn't even practice putting them on. The entertainment was the most disappointing, violin player and ball room dancers was not what was expected, no real stage shows or entertainment. The only outside pool was closed on day 3 at 2.30 in the afternoon for cleaning (10 hours), on the hottest day, when it was filled with kids. The feature films that should of been showed in the evening were cancelled on 3 evenings, excuse was a problem with the TV, no back up plan. The cost of the internet was outrageous and not affordable, 3 bars were closed and didn't open up until 3pm in the afternoon, no entertainment at the pool in 7 days except zuma and a belly flop competition, the entertainment at the pool should of been banging but nothing. My dad paid for 6 people to go on the cruise tour of the ship which again was cancelled, but we were not informed until the morning. a few problems with the food, but the entertainment (lack of) ruin this holiday, the entertainment officer had organised nothing and should be a shamed of his appointment, my dad will be complaining to the head office, terrible and a waste of money! Boarded the ship Friday 23-10-2015 and was taken to our 'larger sea view cabin 734' to find it was filthy with an odd smell and our 'sea view' was looking onto sun loungers on the prom deck, the step up into the bathroom measured nine inches. I said 'that is an accident waiting to happen. The beds were together and we had asked for single beds. We went to the reception to ask if we could change cabins and was told that the ship was full and that the cabin would be cleaned. It wasn't cleaned in the week we were on board. The first night we did not get a shower because we did not feel dirty enough to get in that shower (see Youtube video Thomson Majesty cabin 734 bathroom) and three nights there was no hot water. We had paid £199 each for the all inclusive package while on board only to be told that we were not all inclusive, and it was just a drinks package and that there was a supplement to pay on most of the drinks including bottled water. The drinks are more expensive than P & O. Returning to our cabin we met our cabin steward and when I asked if we could have the beds moved he said 'why do you want me to move the beds? you have a beautiful wife, what about when you want to make love? We were disgusted. After waking each morning with a bad head and soar throat by Tuesday morning the smell in the cabin was so bad that we had to leave at 07.00 the room was full of diesel fumes. We went again to reception where we were told to leave the cabin door open as our deck was having trouble with the air filters, when we said that we could not leave the door open while in bed or out of the cabin the girl on the reception just shrugged her shoulders. We returned later to the cabin to find that the air conditioning filter must have been changed as there was black dust all around it which I cleaned off with wet toilet paper. In the early hours of Thursday morning when leaving the bathroom my partner misjudged the height of the step and fell. We went down to the medical centre first thing in the morning where despite the swelling she was told that her wrist was just sprained and was given a elasticated strap, some pain killers and were told that we would receive the bill next morning, when I asked if she could have an x-ray the doctor said 'we don't have anything like x-ray machines on board, if someone breaks a bone we just get them off the ship'. The next morning the arm was that swollen and painful that we went back to see the doctor who just walked passed us pulling his case and left the ship, he did not even acknowledge us. I made a sling out of two linen napkins and were left to fly home that night with no further treatment of any kind, where we went straight to hospital where the fractured wrist had a cast put on. The service on board was a joke, you do not have to pay tips on Thomson ships and the service reflects it, the staff know that they are getting nothing and therefore do nothing of it. Our meal in the restaurant on the last night was the worst, we did not even have a full set of knifes, forks and spoons, they arrived with each course as the food came. Sea perch was on the menu every day, I had never heard of it but look it up on the internet and it is classed as a buy catch. I could go on and on. When going to leave the ship a member of staff did ask about my partners wrist and asked if we had cruised before, when I said that we had and that we would not be cruising with Thomson again he said 'that's because you have been with other cruise lines, the people who keep coming on these are to stupid to try any other firm, they think they are getting something special and are to thick to know that they are being ripped off'. His words. This cruise cost more than we have paid on real cruise ships for a balcony cabin, value for money this was the most expensive holiday we have ever had Read Less

IF the bathroom had been in a shower block on a campsite we could have moved on. The restaurant service was terrible, one night when we asked for knives and forks we were told by the waiter 'I am busy' and were brought them we each course. The food was like a second rate transport café. The prom deck cabins had diesel fumes coming in through the air conditioning for three days and nights, we were told by reception to just leave open our cabin door. The best part of the trip (can not call it a cruise) was one evening when the entertainment was two teams of passengers playing family fortunes. One question was 'can you name a famous cruise company'. The answer (much to the embarrassment of the entertainment staff) was P & O. Read Less

Just got off this cruise, and could not get off the ship fast enough. Firstly, the OBNOXIOUS, LOUD, rap music playing non stop throughout the ship was so aggravating. Despite complaining it continued all week. The irony was that the average passenger age was probably 65 . Who would allow such annoying music to be played? The cruise director was argumentative, incompetent and narcissistic. When I asked why embarkation and disembarkaation was so slow she rudely barked at me. I had to speak with over 10 Costa employees to try to find out where to go to get on the ship for the first time. Long, long line ups everywhere. They really don, t like Americans or Canadians. Try to find a glass of water or cup of coffee in the afternoon-impossible! When you ask a senior Costa employee for explanations they are rude and argumentative. All they care about is sell, sell, sell. There is no information on the ports at all if you don, t buy a tour package- nothing. Oh, and be prepared for the hidden, surprise "transfer charges" in Corfu and Dubrovnik. The ship docks a long way from the main sights, so Costa arranges buses and charge extremely high prices to bus you into town. 28€ for two people. The passengers are mostly European, and I was not prepared for the pushing in lines, shoving, loud, unruly behaviour. Most of the passengers were not very polite, by North American standards. Basic, common courtesy is totally absent on board. On a positive note, our rooms were nice and I enjoyed the ports visited. We did have a good dinner waiter. So, if you just stayed in your room and only came out for the ports, you might enjoy it. I am a 65 yr old professor who has travelled and cruised extensively, and I have a very high tolerance level, but would not recommend this cruise or ship (unless they changed the cruise director). Free dining meant no personal service and the dining room felt more like a canteen. Cocktails although reasonably priced lacked quality. Cabin as people have said are very small. First time with P&O and sadly the last. Been on Celebrity many times but agent suggested this cruise, seen the adverts and it looked good so gave it a go. We paid over five thousand for the rust bucket we sailed on Oceana. First arrived no problem straight on to ship waited a few hours for luggage but that was fine. Very dated and once we started to really look around noticed how dirty it was, our stewardess was Zenda and she was great. Second day noticed the smell of sewage and this continued for the rest of cruise. The food was not hot just tepid this continued throughout cruise. Second day we hit bad weather this is when we found out our door to the balcony leaked and the carpet was wet it also didn't seal properly and the wind howled all night. Shortage of sun loungers caused plenty of arguments on deck. Plenty of waiters but only one person doing drinks in costa so waited ages for drinks shortage of seats there as well. It took us on a table of eight over two hours for dinner good job everyone on the table got on, waiters had to many tables to serve and looked stressed all the time but we're very polite they did a good job considering the work load. Buckets in the corridors due to leaks many times. We did not book excursions with P&O just to expensive went with another company but found the crew were very unhelpful to passengers also on trips to the point people missed trips due to lack of information on how to get out of port to meet buses. Entertainment was poor if you could get a seat. We had a guest speaker to talk about your trip onto the afterlife very apt on this cruise. First day in Venice was woken up at 7.50am to the sound of workmen in next cabin hammering rust off pipe work no notice this was going to happen and had towels on chairs which where covered in paint chipping balcony was a mess and had a pot of paint left the smell was awful this took till the day before end of cruise to be cleaned up. The places we visited were great thankfully. Don't bother even looking at this ship for a holiday unless you have a strong stomach to deal with the smell and the cold and some times uncooked food stick to the fruit we did only good thing was we didn't put on any weight which is usually the case.
