This is my ninth cruise and this was the worst one I have been on. The good parts of it was loading and unloading passengers it was quick and easy. However, Lets start with the ship, when the ship started moving there was no party like there was on the other ones. The pools closed as early as 10 o clock. There were not as many parties and the music for them was really bad. The parties also ended at 2 o clock so afterwards there was nothing to do after and everything is about money. My daughter had a fun pass that I purchased and when I went to the deck to get her the bracelet the guy was trying to charge me twice for it. The site did not specify that the fun pass had credit and was not unlimited either. We also purchased an internet package which was 3 GB's for two devices. They charged me 300 dollars when I had bought 100 dollar package. When I went to guest services I had to argue with them and they only took off 100 dollars but gave me 5.5 GB's. We were charged an extra service fee of 87.50 per person as the tip for the people working and we were not informed that it was not included in the booking they put it on afterwards. For the photos they were very disorganized and when I asked for help the person working told me to "calm down" so my daughter yelled at him. It was very rude. During dinner the same waiter kept taking my daughter to dance to the music they had in the restaurant but would not keep it professional and asked for instagram and he continuously kept messaging her. The guy cleaning the rooms did a horrible job cleaning the room and the room always smelled strange he never took out the trash and on the last day my daughter forgot her license in the room so she went back to go get it and she found the guy who was cleaning our room smoking a cigarette on the balcony of our room. In a non smoking room. The cabin is extemely small compared to the ones on the other cruise ships I have been on. The timing of the ports was also horrible. We arrived at Puerto Rico at 5 PM on the third day and left at midnight which there was not much to see cause it was night time. On the fourth night we arrived at Virgin Islands at 7 AM and left at 6 which was good timing. On the fifth night though we arrived at St Maartin and didn't have time to do anything because we arrived from 6 AM to 1 PM. On the sixth night we were still at sea. Then the seventh night we arrived at the Bahamas from 7 AM to 6 PM and it was a disaster since it was the day before we left so we had to leave the island early to get our photos and pack our luggage up, every other cruise I have been on we would be at sea on the day before leaving the ship. The food was the same in the buffet we did not get any changes and it was awful. Me and my friend ordered the same food in the restaurant and got food poisoning from it. The only thing there was to do on the ship was swim during the day and drink at night. The only night club there was, was filled with younger people as young as 18, there were not multiple clubs like there was on the other ships. I would never sail with MSC again and it was triple the price of Carnival which is the best ship line I have sailed with. Also I called 4 times for more hangers and I did not get them till I told one of the people working outside I needed them. I came on this ship to relax but this was anything but relaxing. Read Less

My wife and I are RCCL and Celebrity fans, so it's painful to report on a cruise that was far below expectations. First, I should note the positives: we decided to treat our three 14-year old grandchildren to a cruise, and, after much hand wringing, elected to book all five of us in a single veranda room -- one of the very few of its type. I was impressed by how well we were able to manage. More about this below. The onboard shows were good, especially Blue Planet -- the entertainment bright spot. The Ice and Water Shows more than worth the effort to see them. To be honest, Mama Mia was a bit disapointing, though the second act was much better than the first. The teend loved the karaoke and the adults loved the disco, so we were well entertained. Likewise, the food was excellent in all the venues we visited, although Johnny Rockets was a bit disappointing. We ate in the main dining room every night, and found it excellent -- especially for this class of ship. We typically sail on Celebrity, and found the food here of equal quality on the whole. The Windjammer buffet was particulaly noteworthy. We ate there on several occassions and found it excellent for breakfast and lunch. We never ate there for dinner. We also loved the Park Cafe. Now to the drawbacks. Prior to departing, RCCL notified most cruisers (for some reason, we were not among the informed) that a propulsion issue would impact our stop at San Juan Puerto Rico, and the visit would be cut short. Anything meaningful off the ship was impossible, so we shopped in the immediate port area briefly, and resigned ourselves to the loss. Shortly after departing San Juan, the Captain announced that we were returning to port due to a medical emergency, and our last stop (Labadee) would be missed. It seems obvious to me that this lost stop was due, not so much to the emergency as the original maintenance issue. That said: safety first, so handling the emergency was and should have been a priority. What rankled was the indifference to the loss by RCCL: no offer of vouchers or other compensation. Nothing! Credit to the Cruise Director for planning replacement activities, but the last two days were still boring. A bad experience should not detract from the efforts of the crew and the general state of the ship, so my ratings for those are based how they would have been received on an typical cruise. Read Less

Very overcrowded, Casino allows smoking, food and staff was above par. Rock of Ages in the main theater was a bunch of high schoolers. Mini Suite emphasizes on mini with a very small balcony. Beds were 2 twins put together to make a king but with a valley between the 2. Very uncomfortable. The water in the sink was scalding hot immediately so if you have small kids keep them away from the sink until the water cools down. Our suite was 1 level above a night club and the noise kept us up passed midnight.. Ship posts a passenger capacity of 3963 but we were told there were almost 4800 passengers. Forget about a chaise near the pool on sea days or getting someone to serve drinks. Pool area was plain and boring, whitewashed walls. Shore excursion was very overcrowded as well. Most of the time the soap dispensers were empty in the public restrooms. The buffet staff was excellent in reminding us to wash our hands but missed the small area of black mold on one of the walls and ceiling. Disembarkation was a total cluster. We had to leave our cabin by 9am but our disembarkation color wasn’t called until 9:45. We stood on a very long line for another hour trying to get off the ship which took us thru the smokey casino. I tried to enjoy the casino during the cruise but if you are an asthmatic like me “stay away” Read Less

We chose this cruise for our children and grandchildren. Our stop into San Juan was cut short (this was before all the problems). We only had a few hours there. Then, we never ported at their private island because of a medical problem that forced us to return to San Juan. Most ships can airlift someone off; don't know why RC did not do this. Our best port, the private island, was eliminated and we just sailed slowly back to Ft. Lauderdale. What a disappointment for the kids...no zipline, roller coaster, and ocean experiences. I wrote my disappointment to RC and got a canned response that they can change ports whenever! I think they could have given us a refund, free movies, drinks, something for our inconvenience!! Nothing!! We are gold members, but will return to Norwegian and Carnival in the future. The cabin steward and our waiters were top notch. Our balcony was large enough for the 3 of us. The movie screen was totally underutilized. We saw 3 movies on it; one was a documentary on Apollo 11....no one stayed to watch that!! I relayed my disappointment about movie choices and the fact that this could have been used day and night when there was no diving show. The diving show and the ice skating show were excellent!! Needless to say, we will not be traveling on RC in the near future. The kids and grandkids liked Carnival's food better with Guy's Burgers and BBQ. Read Less

This is my second Carnival Cruise, first on Magic. We had a group of 21. Where do I begin? We sailed on June 16th. The pros, the service people work hard, the balcony cabin was nice but (see cons), food was decent, white hot party and mega deck party were fabulous fun and cruise director Simon was awesome. Negatives - ship is poorly designed. Having the majority of the food choices at the same place as the popular pools is just dumb. It caused mobs to gather in one location. They are incredibly understaffed and expect too much from their employees who work hard but can’t meet the demand for service causing long waits for everything. We got the soda package, note that we would never do it again! No soda machines or souvenir cup like RCCL provides. Have to order from the bar which means a 20 minute wait. Frozen drinks are no longer frozen when they finally get to you, food often lukewarm at best. We had four connecting balcony rooms with the intention to have partitions unlocked for one large party balcony except the partitions don’t fold back so they either block your window or your door and they bounce around keeping you up all night. No night service on cabin like we had with RCCL. No real theatrical shows for family to enjoy, Iike Mamma Mia on RCCL’s Allure. (Yes we are spoiled by and love RCCL as is obvious by our comparisons). On board Shops were uninspired, casinos non smoking machines were overrun with smokers with no one enforcing the rules. Seriously in this day and age how difficult is it to implement a non smoking casino? Trust me people will still gamble! Amber Cove was a pleasant surprise (though none of us drank due to the recent death toll}, Grand Turk was disappointing. Have to walk a bit to get away from the water filled with limestone and the locals rob you blind on chairs and umbrellas (free ones are at the ugliest part of the beach and fill quickly) and locals were smoking weed around Cruise families, unbelievable the lack of respect for those providing tourism income, nephew offered cocaine while walking thru one of the shops. Unfortunately bad weather made us skip half moon cay which was disappointing but understandable. We had a great cabin steward, Ricky. However I need to make one last note on a Carnival team member named Brandon. We unfortunately had him as host for trivia several times and for karaoke, regardless how many times he was told he could not be heard, he would not speak up instead just was in his own world oblivious on how to engage guests. At the end of the trip there was delay in getting off boat causing unsafe conditions near elevators. He was clearly given a task to clear areas near elevators, again using his low voice he half heartedly tried to advise people then immediately said I give up and walked away. I don’t say this ever but he should be fired. His arrogance was beyond words. Read Less

I chose this cruise due to its sailing date and my school schedule. I figured an 8 night cruise would be a good way to finish my summer before returning to class full time. When we were approaching the ship it was dirty with rust staining by the anchors. We were told we were getting an upgrade when we arrived to the port as we had requested it and they said the employees at the port can get you into your upgraded room. When we checked in we were told there wouldn’t be an upgrade like the employee said there would be. So we went to our room and it was very tiny and hard to navigate with both people in it. Once we were settled in the room we went to explore the ship some. We went to get a quick snack then walk some more after that. The pool was about the size of my living room. Our luggage was held for a while too, for no reason that could be explained but we know it can be chaos too sometimes. As we were sailing out of port we noticed a rather strong sewage smell on the pool deck. We went back inside and finished walking the ship and finding things to do(which wasn’t much). We went back to the room and showered, the water was presently warm, the only down side was it didn’t drain quickly. I asked our steward why it wasn’t draining fast and he said it’s an older ship, which I understand and said thanks, he did say if it starts to spill out to let him know and they would definitely fix it at one of the ports. We went to bed relatively early due to the fact we had to drive from Daytona down to Miami. When I woke up the next morning it was due to the fact my hip was in pain(have had 2 procedures done on it at 25) which isn’t their issue, the room steward got me an additional pillow to put under my hip with a blanket which I was very grateful for! I went and had some breakfast and sat up on the front deck to wake up some and enjoy the ocean and nice breeze. With the days at sea it usually was a better idea to go to the pool early if possible or late before it closed as it was pretty crowded. If you were on the pool deck you got a smell of sewage, if you went up to the bow area it was fine as you were up wind. We had met some friends and had a few drinks with the day at sea and planned for the first stop at Coco Cay. When we arrived into Coco Cay it was overcast which was AMAZING as it had a nice breeze and would have been rather hot. We walked around did some shopping and enjoyed the lounge chairs on the beach. Our next stop was in San Juan Puerto Rico. We got into Puerto Rico in the afternoon which didn’t leave too much time to explore. I definitely would consider going back to Puerto Rico when there was more time to explore as there was TONS to see! I was headed to the Windjammer Cafe and stopped by the restroom. When I walked in the urinals were overflowing onto the floor(it happened rather frequently at least daily from what I saw). I went and notified the staff who said they’ll address the issue soon. I went to eat dinner they only had water and tea to drink, so I ate dinner and decided to go buy the drink package. We decided to tough out the smell and join people down on the pool deck to have a drink and talk about the next stop. When we got to St. Croix we went on a dive excursion, it was extremely well priced and the staff running it were great too! There are some shops there that have very unique things to buy which was also nice. Upon entering the boat after our day of exploring I went to shower and get freshened up. We decided to go get dinner and head up to the bow area to enjoy the departure. When we got into the cafe they had a chef making meals for everyone. We gave him four tries at cooking food and it still didn’t click and come out right. He kept adding additional things that we didn’t want even though we were standing there saying yes and no to ingredients, partially due to an allergy. I sat up on the bow and did some work on my laptop and enjoyed the night. Our next stop was St. Thomas! When we left the ship we walked some and also did a van excursion and met up with some people we know in the area! The staff were very friendly, they also let us experience how some of the natives do things! Once we were done for the day we headed back to the boat. Some of the iguanas were rather tame, I got to pet one that was randomly roaming. (We have exotic animals at our home) We had two days at sea on the way back to Miami. Unfortunately we had to make an emergency stop in Nassau, hopefully the passenger was okay. Overall I would like to recommend RCI, I wouldn’t recommend the Empress of The Seas. The sewage smell was horrendous, the ship was rather old and dingy, and the amenities were sub par. Our steward was absolutely amazing! He helped make this cruise halfway tolerable. Next time I sail I will definitely be looking at all the reviews of the ships and cruise line making sure the room is in fact the room we want. This was not a good first experience on RCI. Read Less

We are veteran cruisers and this was our return to Carnival after only cruising Royal and Celebrity for the last ten years. We chose this ship because it was a family vacation including grandchildren; it left out of Manhattan so no flying was involved and the length and ports were desirable. Embarkation was the worst of all our 30+ cruises. It took us 3 hours waiting in line in a hot terminal before boarding. It was pandemonium and no one would tell us what the problem was. Carnival personnel were not very helpful. We were on the ship by 3:00 pm and it was supposed to sail at 4:00. Muster was postponed until 5:00 and we never left the pier until at least 7:00. No explanations given. Perhaps it was the rainy weather, but don't know why. Our dining arrangements were supposed to be the same as the other family members, but Carnival gave us all different seating times. It was straightened out by the following night but it resulted in waiting in line yet again to correct it. The food in the main dining room was just okay. I am not a fussy eater and enjoy not having to cook, serve and clean up but the selections were not to my taste and the food was just barely warm most of the time. We avoided the Lido buffet most days because the lines were tremendously long. The other eateries (and there were plenty of choices) were more to our liking and we made it a point to eat during off times to avoid those lines. The cruise director was probably the best I have ever experienced. The Flying Dutchman (Chris Matthews) was everywhere on the ship and was absolutely fantastic. I don't think he ever slept. He was a definite asset to Carnival and must have a sweet future with them. I cannot say enough good things about him. He is the best thing I will remember about this cruise. Having been to all of the ports previously, except for Grand Turk, we choose to do beach days rather than excursions. All the beaches we visited were gorgeous, especially Cane Garden Bay Beach in Tortola. We had so looked forward to Grand Turk but were very disappointed in it. We were the only ship in port yet it was still overcrowded. We could not find free beach chairs, and the pool was very crowded as well. The beach was full of seaweed, rocks and looked dirty. Not your typical Caribbean beach. We stayed 1/2 hour and returned to the ship. Our biggest gripe was the extreme overcrowding on this ship. They supposedly added many cabins when it was in dry dock, and there were just too many passengers. Common areas on the ship were few and far between and everywhere you went there were hoards of people. The two pools were inadequate for the number of swimmers; all you could do was just stand there shoulder to shoulder with everyone. We did find that the number of lounge chairs was adequate and we never had a problem finding them poolside. Carnival pool attendants did make it a point to patrol chair hogs and left stickers on chairs warning them their possessions would be taken after 45 minutes if left unattended. Nice touch! We chose to walk off with our luggage and that went pretty seamlessly. We were off the ship and in a taxi by 8:32. All in all, any cruise is better than no cruise, and we had a good time being with family. However, I doubt I would choose to cruise with with Carnival again. Read Less

I have cruised with Carnival 3 times in the past 19 years. On June_2018 we took the Magic leaving Fort Lauderdale. The food quality at the buffet was very disappointing, menus were repeated over and over. We tried the assigned restaurant once and it was hell, server was messing out order all the time, the food took over 1 hour to be served and even like that, ti came out wrong again. There was also poor entertainment, theater's stage was supper small. Main pool was very often without music. Room's carpet was not clean, bathroom sick clogged, refrigerator making loud noise non-stop. The room's attendant was OK but my 2 requests were never fixed. We were supposed to have a KING bed but all they had were 2 super small personal bed put together. Why offering KING when they know that is not an option?! We had a balcony room, the roof in the balcony was extremely rusted, the door to the balcony had the door lock broken, night lamp also falling apart. Mid ship, deck 11 had very comfy seats with cushions but sadly they were assigned for smokers only... seriously? Smoking section should be assigned to the back side of the ship so the smoke doesn't get anywhere else, it was disgusting passing thru so many areas and having to smell that. The casino's cigar smell was so strong that you could smell it outside of it, they need some serious extractors in there. I got charged me for a protection plan I didn't sign-up for and refused to refund my money, they took the prepaid gratuities' money toward the protection and charged me gratuities again and refuse to adjust my folio. They failed to provide proof of the protection plan policy claiming I added it. I called several times and all they say is SORRY, asked to speak with CEO and they refused too. THEY ARE STEALING MONEY FROM ME AND REFUSE TO COOPERATE ... NEVER AGAIN WILL CRUISE WITH CARNIVAL! Read Less

We were looking forward to this cruise being we had cruised Celebrity 12 times before and were always satisfied with our cruise. This time was a real let-down. We had an Aqua class room and ate at Blu restaurant. The quality of food was not good. We sent back a number of dishes. The staple salad (Caesar) came to the table limpe. As if it was laying out for some time. The strip steak was uneatable! One morning the bacon was so greasy and dry that it stuck together and was unable to cut. The service in this restaurant was also not up to par. Recommended to us one night what to order and then came back after we took her suggestion, and told us they didn't have it. Took a creamer off a table next to us that they were cleaning and placed it on our table. I could go on and on. Our room was always kept immaculate!. Our steward name was Francisco. Excellent job all week. Didn't do much activity on port days being we were there before. We had cruised 29 cruises and always returned to Celebrity. Sorry to say, we don't think we will again. This was my 3rd cruise, but first time with Carnival. We went as a group of 9 for a family vacation. Five in my group were new to cruising. The 5 children ranged in age from 6 y.o to 14 y.o. Unfortunately, everyone in the group returned extremely disappointed. The pools were remarkably small, barely larger than hot tubs, and were nowhere close to being able to accommodate the number of passengers on board. My husband and I weren't even interested in using the pools although we usually like to jump in. The casino took up an extremely large space and made the entire 5th floor smell like stale cigarette smoke. The casino actually took up more space than all THREE children's areas combined! My kids were so bored when we dropped them off at the child area, that they refused to go back. It actually took me 20 minutes to drop off my 2 kids, and another 20 waiting in line to pick them up an hour later. It was disheartening to not be able to drop them off to have fun so we could do "adult time". The lines for food were equally as frustrating. After our first stop in Amber Cove, hungry, exhausted passengers returned on board to find that only pizza and burgers were available to eat; resulting in lines that were excruciatingly long. This was pretty much the recurring theme each time we wanted to eat. This was even true for the buffet lines...when it was open. It is like they purposely timed the food areas to be shut down or at half staff during the most inappropriate/busy times. We had never experienced lines like this on our other cruises. Activities were mostly limited to sales, raffles and Bingo to encourage additional on-board spending. Two soccer tournaments were offered, but were limited to 18+. The one craft we attended was so short that the workers were actually taking supplies out from under my 6 y.o. daughter's hands to put them away. How disappointing. We enjoyed the live music, especially Liz and Lucas, who were AMAZING! I wish there would have been more on board to do other than just sitting in a bar listening to music. Even though we loved the band, we would have liked more family time on our family vacation. The 2 teens in our group actually enjoyed hanging out with new friends. The 13-15 y.o. teen area facilitated the opportunity for them to all meet, but after 2 days they preferred to spend most of their time as a group outside of the monitored area. There were some positives on our cruise. As I mentioned before, music by Liz and Lucas was amazing. Our group all liked the port locations; especially Grand Turk and San Juan. We would have loved to spend more time in both places. Despite frequent long lines, Guy's Burgers, the BBQ place, 24/7 ice cream and the pizza place were delicious. We also liked the burrito shack. Red Frog pub had board games available that entertained us for an hour or so. My children liked the water slides when they were available, but they were always done within 30-45 minutes. The adults used the workout area and were pleased to find plenty of cardio and weight lifting equipment available during both visits. Overall, the combination of minimal pool space, constant lines for food, lack of activities and boring childrens' areas, we will NEVER consider returning to Carnival. The negatives outweighed the positive by a HUGE margin. Our cruise was pretty much only enjoyable while we were off the ship or listening to Liz and Lucas. Read Less

After not cruising for 7 years, I went on a cruise for the first time on NCL to try out a different cruise line. Last year, I thought NCL was terrible but after experiencing Celebrity Equinox it's really put that cruise line into perspective. Just to give some clarification, I've been on two Celebrity Cruises but it's been over ten years since I've cruised with them. Our family was a loyal RC cruising family until we decided to branch out. So without further ado, let's jump into the review: Positives: • Honestly, what made my cruise enjoyable was the dining staff I had in the main dining room. Our waiter was Reynaldo. M. and Carlos at table 166. Those two were fantastic waiters and were on top of everything. They were friendly and it was nice to form a bond with them. Reynaldo always made sure we were pleased and happy with everything from food to service. Carlos was overly friendly and accommodating to our table and was a laugh and joy to have. We will miss them dearly. We had no issues in the MDR. The food was excellent on board. I always looked forward to eating in the MDR. I actually prefer Celebrities' chefs more so than the Moveable Feast chefs that came and prepared dishes that night. I found on the Moveable Feast night I greatly disliked the appetizers and main meals created by those two chefs. The only redeeming quality was the desert. If you do the MF again, get better chefs. • I had no issues ever finding a seat on the pool deck to tan or sunbath. This is usually a common problem with cruises, but I did not have this issue. The pools were well kept and not crowded and were set at nice temperatures. • I really enjoyed having Capt. Kate as our captain. I've been on at least 20+ cruises and I've never had a memorable cruise captain, but I can honestly say Kate is a memorable and fun one to have. I enjoyed listening to her morning riddles and hearing her sense of humor. There was something so humble about that and humanizing. Loved it. • Our room steward was fantastic. He was super lovely and very consistent. He always had our room cleaned quickly and efficiently. I could see he worked super hard and wanted to make sure we were taking care of. Negatives: Bars/Bartenders: • I spent a lot of time in Sky 14 and I'm sorry, but the bartenders up there have to be some of the rudest people I have ever met. Day 1, for sail away, I went up there to get a drink. There were only two people at the bar, one who already had a drink, and another gentleman who was waiting to get served. There were two bartenders cleaning/stocking the bar and ignored both of us for eight minutes. Eventually, they acknowledged us after that time but seemed bothered by the fact that we wanted to order a drink. Then another bartender from the pool deck came down and got my drinks made. What made it worse though is that then he berated me about why I wouldn't want to get the drink package. I don't drink that much, in fact, I only had one drink the entire cruise, so why would I want to spend $50 a day only to drink once?? Basically, I found that most of the bartenders were rude anyway. They tended to look over your head and act like they didn't see you, which only further turned me off from utilizing them. I also hated that they were desperately trying to shove the drink package down our throats. If we didn't want it, we didn't want it! Activities on board: • There were not enough activities to keep people entertained on board. I would have loved to see more game show type of games on board. The last sea day was the most boring day I have ever experienced on a cruise. We had one trivia game at 10:15 AM and then a huge gap where nothing but seminars or paying ($$$) activities were available until 3:15 PM. I found that absurd because on NCL I was never bored with the entertainment. They always mixed up the activities or game show ideas, but on this cruise I found myself being bored many times. Why are there so many activities where you need to pay additional money or listen to people talk? We're already paying a lot as it is. (Most of the seminars are to get you to spend more money, like on wellness products) Speaking of activities...I found the entertainment group to appear to look like they don't enjoy their jobs very much. They always looked super melancholy and would rush through the activities they did happen to provide as if they had better things to do. They'd speed through the trivia questions or show up late, etc. Darren and Charlotte were my favorites out of the group, but as a whole, they didn't look like they worked as a team. Also, the locations where they'd hold the activities were not suitable. I still don't understand why they'd host the interactive game shows on Deck 4 in that small entertainment court. It got too congested and there weren't any seats. Room Temperature: • I really enjoyed the layout and location of our room. We were located in room 8277 and it was right near the elevators. It was lovely and cool during the day but at night it felt like a sauna in there. Every night on board, my mother and I would wake up around 3 AM- 4 AM sweating like pigs. We did not have the duvets draped over us, just the mere thin sheet. It was terrible and we complained to guest relations and our steward and they said nothing could be done. Needless to say, I did not get the best sleep on board. Another thing that was kind of annoying was the fact that the walls were paper thin. I could hear conversations from either side of my room. I would hear when people sneezed, coughed, or snored. Internet: • Internet was pretty spotty most of the cruise. It wasn't great and would disconnect often. Medical/Infirmary: • So one thing I was not planning was getting some sort of allergic reaction while visiting a beach. It happened the 4th day in and I was covered in an itchy, blotchy, red rash on my arms. I went to the infirmary to see if there was anything they could to alleviate it. I was greeted by one of the nurses or doctor, but I'm not sure since she didn't even introduce herself. She said, "What do you need?" I said, "I have a rash I got from the beach and--" "--What do you want me to do?" she cut off abruptly. I couldn't believe how short she was with me. She didn't even bother to look at my arms and proceeded to say. "Take some Benedryl." "Um, I don't have any. I came here to see if I could get some." "You want me to sell you some??" That was the type of service I received... Basically, there were some aspects I loved and some I just really did not care for. I will say this though, this does not make me want to run out and book another Celebrity cruise line. I will probably return to Royal Carribean next time. Read Less

Our first cruise on the Anthem was March 2018. In a little over a year, there has been a general decline. Coordination was poor in several areas. We had Anytime Dining. When asking for a table for 4, you would have thought I asked for nuclear codes. Some nights, it took 4 or 5 staff members and several radio discussions to get a table assignment. One night, they sat us at a table in the hallway used by wait staff. We even had other cruisers sitting on a sofa next to us. Another huge step down was the Cruise Director. Last year we had Clo, this year Mitch. I know people seem to love Mitch, but I just don't see it. Mediocre Mitch. The CD Entertainment Staff was also a big step down. Last year, they were humorous and engaging. Not so this year. Technical difficulties appeared everywhere -- multiple shows rescheduled due to technical difficulties; Name that Tune only had 7 of 10 contestants due to technical difficulties; Royal IQ app that couldn't connect many times; the North Star didn't work in the 9 day cruise. But the big problem was in our friends' cabin (8222). Bed bugs were found on day 6. After one night, they had itching backs and thought it was soap. Looking past the huge miss on turn over day 1, Royal handled this horribly. A general message was left on their phone. What??? Someone should have met them when they came back on the boat or in their room, not a phone message. They were downgraded from their suite to a balcony, all their clothes and belongings taken away in clear plastic bags down the hallway. Royal dropped the ball again when NOTHING was offered to them. Show empathy, guest services, and throw them a specialty restaurant dinner while you figure out the next step. Throughout the days ahead, the only thing Royal offered was a future cruise credit for their original amount. Everything else was asked for by my friend. They did comp a cabana at Labadee and a specialty dinner, but only after they asked for it. Royal offered an onboard credit for this cruise. When my friends asked for the money to be changed, lower future credit and larger current cruise credit, corporate turned them down. They then received a form letter describing how they were unhappy that their cabin did not meet their expectations. Since when was a bed bug free cabin an "expectation". Read Less

We went with family/friends. The ship is beautiful but is run very poorly. My room was dirty and I always bring Lysol wipes with me so I cleaned it myself. We saw the guy maybe 4 times and he was nice but not very thorough when cleaning. (He left a plate with food on it for two days on the dresser). We were told out room was to have a see through balcony with glass and it had metal on the bottom so we couldn't see out unless we stood up. Very few people to help you navigate the ship and the signage is almost non existent. The maîtred in the ship restaruant was very good as was the mgr of the ship's buffet. The food was just okay; sometimes good and sometimes not so good. The ship has many drink packages and they screwed up most of them. The people on the ship including the employees complained where ever we went. More complaints than compliments. No need to get a drink package unless you plan to spend more than what you pay in drinks. Both with and without alcohol. The non alcohol package came with soft ice cream which they gave to anyone and it was rarely available but when the machines where working, it was very good. This package was supposed to come with flavored water etc... and they had no idea what this is. In other words we got screwed royally. The entertainment was good but very repetitive; acts were repeated each night to a different stage ie... lights, costumes etc... Some of them were very good and some seemed to need more practice as they were out of sync a lot when dancing. The stingray excursion in the Cayman's was excellent and I highly recommend it but it is less expensive going on your own than booking through the ship. The last day in the Bahamas was terrible as the ship failed to tell us that it was their labor day and most everything was closed so after walking around in the heat we went back to the ship's swimming pool. The pools are not big enough to accommodate the amount of people on the ship and not enough pool seating. The casino was just okay and I never saw all the games up and running at one time. Few personnel to take drink orders and fix machines when necessary. Not enough slot machines overall compared to other cruise lines. The bars were so understaffed that you had to wait and wait to just get a bottle of water. The people working there tried their best but they are so understaffed I can't express this enough. You wait forever to get someone to answer the phone when calling down to the desk. This ship is not ready for the American market. They cater to the European market. Americans expect to see people smiling and being nice, cleaning all the time and making sure you keep the germs to a minimum. This is not expected the European market I was told. I spoke with many people on this ship and only one person had all nice things to say. I am being very sincere and not exaggerating. I love to cruise but this is my first and last cruise on this cruise line. Read Less

We chose ship due to ports. This is our first carnival cruise although not our first cruise. We were on a family cruise celebrating my sons high school graduation! We are in our mid 40's with 2 teenage sons cruising. I'll start with the CONS: First off the Muster station drill.. Wow one gal had to be called 3 times at least! Not sure she ever showed up but we were held there nearly 45 mins to an hour shoulder to shoulder with other guests with little ventilation waiting on this lady to come for the drill! Why not do this in decks. There was a 60 second demo of how to use life vest and that was it - was played on the room TV too. Waste of time, people were so hot, crowded, and miserable. My hubby got pretty claustrophobic due to us waiting so long on one passenger. Ship was not clean, our balcony smelled like someone around was smoking all the time (even though not allowed and flares mine and my sons asthma), plexiglass on our balcony had handprints and smears (filthy) from previous guests, and dirty all over it (see pics). Food repetitive and got old fast. Other guests were entitled acting, loud, obnoxious, discourteous and we heard some bragging about being on 100% state/federal assistance programs! We felt like we were on a section 8/welfare cruise and I don't mean that rude, it is just the truth. Saw a previous review on this ship saying it was Jerry Springer type guests on here and I completely agree! The other passengers were pushing their way into food lines, like it was feeding time, loading plates to the brims, and just rude! It was gross to go through the buffet due to the people in the lines.. One lady got drunk and every night like clockwork went to the cabana staff (which were younger kids) and cussed them out and yelled until she got security there (that she asked for and was asking for the "Po-Po"). She needed to be contained and told this behavior wasn't allowed - I didn't take my kids on this ship to hear this language and see her trashy behavior. She was always claiming something she had was "stolen." Not sure why they continued serving alcohol to someone who was this loud, rude, cussing, and making such a scene - actually I do- for more $$ for carnival. These kids working didn't deserve this treatment either. They were doing their jobs trading in towels, but she felt she could tear them down and belittle them since she was drunk I guess.. The music was trashy and mostly rap- on repeat. No variances of music to accomodate other peoples music choices, but just for one set of guests in my opinion. There was no where you could go to get peace and quiet and relax on this ship. If you could find a quieter deck, there was a large white safety barrier blocking the ocean view. I asked a worker if I could put a chair on another deck which had a see through area and he said no. Like I mentioned above we were there for my sons graduation gift trip and he can not stand loud music and we found him hanging in the room most of the trip due to the loud chaotic environment. There were several pools rather than 1 large pool. They were either filled with little kids (packed full) or the adult pool which was a group of 20's age drunk men hitting on their girls for the day - which changed daily. Kind of entertaining I guess or disgusting. Swimsuits were minimal and should not allow thongs when people have kids on this ship. In the past when I cruised Royal Caribbean, the tipping was at the end of the ship and I felt like the staff/crew really worked for their tips. However, this ship I felt like an inconvenience (except in the formal dining room at night by wait staff). Staff and crew members (even the ones in all white or dressed up) would pass by in the halls or elevator and not say hello or engage in conversation. I've never experienced this before on other cruise lines. Their deli was one of the better places to eat but William who works there is rude and when I ordered my sandwich on a pretzel bun instead of the egg bun, he let out a huge sigh and rolled his eyes and was very rude in his tone and how he came across. They need to open a second deli somewhere in the ship - maybe in the O2 (teen hangout room) that was ALWAYS empty! The deli line was incredibly long every time! This should also tell them the food here is much better than the gross buffet. Wouldn't hurt to have just some chicken strips/fries on the buffet or something so you don' t have to wait in line for 30 mins for fries.. Desserts were beautiful and looked delicious but very disappointing when tasting. Only one worth the calories was the chocolate cheesecake one time. Toilets smelled so bad in our room, like a porta potty. Got worse everyday! Made you sick to use your own bathroom. My son (reason for our trip) was stoked for seafood on this trip. Said it wasn't really good, sushi (costs extra) was terrible and they did refund our money - thank you. But, I really expected good seafood and it wasn't tasty which was disappointing. In my opinion, they need to take a week off from cruising and update, renovate, and CLEAN this ship! I know they'd lose money not sailing for a week but this ship needs a good cleaning in corners, crevices, and scraping old rusty paint and re-painting. Decor needs updating. Bathroom counters etc are green in color. Cruise Director, Mat was funny to listen to but after day 2 or 3 he doesn't need to keep saying "Good morning ladies and gentleman, this is Mat your cruise director.." We know. He did do a good job entertaining - loved his laugh - was very genuine. The way he interacted with kids was funny and good too! Enjoyed Jake, Adele, and the other guy who MC'd too (can't remember his name-but bald and funny and had a b-day a few days after we got off the ship). We have teenage sons who loved the basketball courts they offered and had a lot of fun spending time there; staff was rude when they would come take the basketball away from these kids at 5:30 pm. Apparently there is a steakhouse underneath the courts so they don't allow them to play b-ball from 5:30-11pm. Therefore, every night we had to wait up til 1230 am so the kids could play ball from 11pm-12am. This is dumb. These kids paid the same as those ppl in the steakhouse to be here. Allowing them to have a ball from Noon-5:30pm then 11pm-12am needs to be re-evaluated or steakhouse moved - again maybe to the O2 lounge area that was always empty!!! Not a lot for teenage kids to do on this ship. Felt too old for the slides, pools were cramped with little kiddos, and not allowed in adult pools so they never stepped into a pool on the ship :( O2 lounge was empty as I stated above. Flags on the ship are a bit disrespectful and need to be replaced, they are torn up (see pics) Guests on this ship could not follow simple directions as I mentioned before they are all entitled. Now, there were a few normal people on here but not many. Mat the cruise director would give simple instructions for disembarkment process and no one could listen. We were on express disembark where we took our own luggage -haha it was anything but express. We were supposed to be off at 0830 and we didn't get off until 1010am due to the entitlement of others going before their deck was called. Literally waited on deck, in hallways, and theatre for 2 hours elbow to elbow with thousands of guests. Carnival said it was not their fault but one would think this was the first time they've ever emptied a ship! You need staff who are assertive and shut the elevators off! Mark off stair wells etc.. Had a lady keep saying "if you aren't on the stairs don't come down, if you are on an elevator, stay on and go back up to deck 9." If you have 1 crew for every 3 guests, put people at the top of the stairs and enforce it, shut down the elevators, get control of the unruly pushy guests! No one listened to her and just kept piling down the staircases and pushing their way through - we had to sit in the theatre for a while until we could get off due to this. This process needs re-vamped as well. King bed is only 2 twins pushed together..Don't fall in the crack when they move apart during the night! lol Elevators were Slllloooowww! Then when they opened, people would get on before letting others off which is super frustrating for a week straight. I was in the casino waiting on my husband and I was peering out a window looking at the ocean. A crew member came over and shut the shades to the window I was standing in front of.. I nicely said, "I was looking out that window at the ocean." and he said, "Oh sorry and proceeded to close the shades! What kind of customer satisfaction/service does this show? This was pretty much how all the crew treated us on this ship. Only Johnny (cabin steward) went out of his way to be kind and do a fabulous job! I've had 4 knee surgeries in past 1.5 years and I always liked going to the top decks on the ship to look out but elevators didn't go to the 11 and 12 floors and was definitely harder for me to get up the stairs but I made it. Would be nice if they had some way for people with knee issues/handicap guests to get to the top, this was the best view and somewhat quieter depending on what area of ship you were on. PROs The dancers/performers (4 women, 4 men) were amazing! We enjoyed each show each night, our favorite was the Flicks night. Their costumes could be a little less "cheeky" and showy of their butt cheeks and still have the same impact. They are talented and great singers/dancers. Their choreography is amazing and well rehearsed/performed! This was a huge highlight to us. Johnny our room steward was the only staff who was smiling, greeted me by name and kind. He did a great job and loved his towel animals each night!! Guest Services was very helpful booking an excursion after hours and in helping with anything we needed. Pools were drained, scrubbed well. That was reassuring as I mentioned above full of kids or 'horny' adults.. The staff really took their time and really cleaned these well when I watched one evening from afar. I wish they cleaned the whole ship like this! When waiting to get off ship on last day, Jesse was out working very hard scraping and re-varnishing benches around the pool. He was a hard worker and did a great job! Carnival Deli, 24 hour pizza, frozen yogurt, and Guys burgers were good - but only so many burgers you can eat in a week! PG comedian shows were hilarious! Loved Mr. Winfield the most. Went to an adult only once and stayed for Read Less

This was not a long planned cruise; it was a spur of the moment trip. Cruise originated out of Baltimore. We are within driving distance to Baltimore. Embarkation was very smooth, parked car in port lot and we were on our way. There was a glitch in our dining reservations, so our first stop was to straighten out our sitting. We were accommodated by a very pleasant young crew member. Onward to Lido deck for lunch. We were met by a crowd as expected. What we did not expect is the lack of servers at food stations. The lines were so long. These lines were an every day occurrence. Often there was only one server at each station. Our luggage had not yet arrived in our cabin. We did some exploring; familiarizing ourselves with the ship. We went to dinner, then rechecked our cabin. Our luggage was there. There were announcements by our cruise director, Savannah. We had NO idea what she said. Her speech was rapid fire, I thought she was swallowing the mic. She needs elocution lessons and good advice on the proper use of a public address system. This problem continued throughout the cruise. Later in the cruise my husband and I were in the red frog pub. Savannah happened to come along to the pub and sat at the bar. The bartender was asking my husband what he would like. Savannah interrupts telling the bartender to take care of her friend. The young female bartender remarked she would after she took care of people who were there first. Because the bartender spoke up, her tip reflected my husband’s appreciation. I thought this was a deplorable maneuver by a cruise director. I was told by a crew member she was onboard for only about 2 weeks. Perhaps she is new in the position and simply lacks training and experience. We went to a few shows, comedy acts and sing alongs. They were all very good. I am always impressed with Carnival’s theatre. The aisles are wide and drinks are not passing through a half dozen hands to get to you. The sofas and cocktail tables are a nice touch. Our cabin 8168 was comfortable. There is only ONE outlet. It needed to be replaced, the plug was constantly falling out of it. The balcony ceiling was flaking off. Subsequently white chips were all over the lounge chairs. Beware of clothing, make sure there is a towel down first. The public restrooms were recently updated. They were always clean and well maintained. We spent a lot of time in the serenity area of the ship. It was nice. They actually did police the area for chair hogs. It was nice to see this being done. We visited Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Freeport. We took a carnival sponsored bus tour. It was 2 hours long, well done and interesting. We tendered into Half Moon. The beach was beautiful, barbecue on island was okay. We only walked through the local huts on Freeport. It was the most commercialized port I have ever seen; not really worth getting off the ship. We enjoyed perfect weather the entire cruise. The main dining room for dinner was very nice. A little entertainment every night was a nice touch. The food was mediocre. Appetizers and desserts were just about the same every night, limited offerings. Our dining staff were all accommodating and very pleasant. The debarkation process was smooth. It was well organized and moved quickly. We had not sailed carnival for a number of years. The quality has deteriorated over time. This ship needs a long dry dock. It’s decore is dark and dreary and the ship is showing signs of wear. I would not recommend this ship overall. Read Less

Had to go or risk divorce. I think cruising is just a bad idea all around and would have (never would cruise if given a choice) chosen a much smaller and cheaper cruise but I was out voted 3-1. RC does many things very well and they are good at keeping you happy. Due to a TA mistake we ended up with an interior balcony and hated it. Why spend 5K on a trip to have a balcony that overlooks a mall or park? We are water people and love to sit and watch the water. First morning I went to the service desk to try to upgrade but they were full and could not help. Typical on a cruise everyone has their hand out to try to make more money. Drinks were 8-14$ and I still can't get a medium ale onboard. (dark Irish beer or bud/miller) St Kitts was nice. We got on a private taxi and had a nice tour with good history and some beach time. You must find Hawks Taxis and Tours if you go. They are on FB. He is a great host and was very nice to talk with. He gave us far more than he had to after the tour by dropping us at the beach and then picking us up later. Very good history lessons and I liked supporting an independent who was (hopefully not ) shaken down by RCL. USVI stop was typical and quite unbearable and I almost lost it with the same old shops ands loud music everywhere. Coco Cay was very well done and we loved just sitting on the beach. Tried the big pool with swim up bar but the music was very loud. Kind of sad that RC would completely upend a complete island and turn it into a water park beach area in the middle of a nice set of islands but that is the cruise industry... Food onboard was generally decent but as a lactose intolerant vegetarian I found the labeling could have been better. They had GF options but were lacking on vegetarian choices. Is it really that hard to have a few more options even if they had to be cooked to order? Main dinning room was very nice and staff and service were great. Many people in the buffet did not understand the etiquette of waiting in line and would just cut in a reach for what they wanted. The Bistro was very good and love the presentation of food. Many great desserts. The pasta dishes made to order were excellent. Getting only what you want pan cooked and mixed in front of you is very nice. I hate the way cruise lines overwhelm and shakedown the local economies. Hate the herd mentality. On this ship there were many kids and I prefer to have peace and quiet. The pool music was turned up after 12-2pm and we often had good pool seats but were driven out by 2 ish due to noise from live reggae or speakers blasting music. I hope I am never captive to a steel drum/reggae band again. Smoke from the smoking area will carry a long ways in the wind and was gross. Three in our party loved the trip and I survived. Just not for me...This was my 4th cruise and next time I will gladly send my wife without me as she done before. And remember all those workers who often work 10-12 hour days for$ 6-900 per month and hardly see any daylight or fresh air. Items listed below are just my thoughts and do not reflect all. Read Less

I was offered a deal for this trip which included alcohol and some beverages. The price was not to bad. With that said, here are the bullet points. I will list the bad first so we can end this on a good note for MSC. I had heard that getting on and off the ship was quite difficult. We didn't have to much trouble except they had two men double booked into our room with my fiancé and I. They didn't take them off but just said not to worry about it. We kept seeing their names of everything we did for about 3 days and then were removed from the list. At most ports they only had one person doing disembarkations even when there were 3 stations. We did see them use 3 people twice and when we left the ship on the last day. The first thing that happened which was not the way to set the mood was that I went to the bar and asked for a glass of prosecco or champagne (our drink package included all beer and wine and bottom shelf cocktails up to $6) and was told quite rudely that it wasn't included in my package. After paying for a glass I went to a different bar and was told the same thing. At dinner they brought the wine list and there was champagne for $6. I asked and the waiter said, of course its included, with a very nice smile. This continued for the next few days with one bartender saying yet and one saying no. At the CC cocktail event I asked to speak to the bar manager. A not so very pleasant individual who said there must be a lack of understanding and communication and walked away. Not sure if he said anything to the staff but I didn't have that problem again. The room was clean and well furnished but with only a chair in the room and two small draws like sock draws there was no place to put our clothes. We had to live out of our luggage for 8 days which we had to put on the chair and the two small nightstands we had to bring around for that purpose. Food, While I wasn't impressed with the food it wasn't terrible. Not what I would expect from a European cruise line, especially the Italian items. The tiramisu was nothing but sponge cake with not lady finger to be found. The chicken parm, I don't even know what to say about that. We left dinner without eating and went to the buffet, on ITALIAN NIGHT, on an Italian cruise line!! I am posting some pictures to show some of these things as well. WE did pay for the upgrade to two dinners. What is called the duo. We chose the steak restaurant and the Asian restaurant. We didn't really see anything on the menu that came in the package but was told that if we want to upgrade we would only pay half of the listed price, remember, on top of what we paid which was about $35 a person per meal. We upgraded to a tomahawk steak for two and two main lobster tails (see picture of tails and menu). these were not Maine lobsters but warm water tails. The steak was cooked almost to perfection but wasn't seasoned to much. Kind of bland. The tails ( we ordered 2) were quite small. When the bill came they had charged us full price for the tails and half price for the steak. They said that only one item would be reduced, of course. The bill was about $159 plus what we paid already and we were about $230. Little steep in my book Entertainment reviews were not very good. Complaining that there was a lot of opera. Not on this cruise. Entertainment wasn't bad. Not a big as other lines I've been on but ok. Its not a very big theatre so not very big shows. Mostly circus type theatre. Acrobatics on the stage with singing. I do not understand why they put a platform in the middle of the pool deck. I see the big H (helicopter) on it so it may have been required by law but to cut your pool deck by more than half was a mistake. It was very hard to find a lounge chair and if you went up to the other levels they allow smoking, including cigar smoking. We had to move quite a few times. The itinerary for the ports was done poorly. We got to Puerto Rico at 5 PM and left at 11:30pm. Not much you can do or see at night. St. Thomas was full day and our best port. St. Marteen was another half day from 11:30-5:30. Nassau was also a half day. Maybe loose a port and stay longer. For the first 4-5 days there are people trying to sell you upgrades to both dinners and drinks. It was a little much after the first day. With all that negativity here are some pluses. Our cabin steward was awesome. Always there and if we had a request he was right on it. The ship was clean and neat, if not laid out to get from one end to the other without changing floors. The food in the buffet was decent, not great, but not bad. At the Cruise Critic cocktail event the captain honestly told us the reason for the cocktails and cake was so we would all write wonderful reviews. I'm glad for his honesty but that's a little much. Went with 30+ neighbors. Everyone was saying they should have had 500 less people and 500 more staff positions. First day was a nightmare. Door key wouldn't work; was told to go to guest services. Since it was day one and crowded we waited in line at least 30-40 minutes. It was a little before 2:00 p.m. so was told it should work now. Went back up and it didn't work. Asked room steward to let us in but he said we would have to go to guest services. Another trip and waiting in LONG line and they gave us new keys. Back up 9 floors and long walk to room (still carrying luggage we came on board with) - new key didn't work. Another ten minutes to get to deck five (elevators took 2 times to get onto due to crowd). Waited in line another half hour. Was told this time to go to room and they would have someone meet us there. Waited at our room for almost an hour. I even pretended to have had an issue and laid in the middle of the hallway hoping to have someone come to us instead of us going to them. After 20 minutes I realized cameras were of no value (except in Casino - lol). FOURTH time went down to guest services, waited in line a half hour and was told I probably had the wrong room or wasn't using key correctly - REALLY??? TRYING HARD to keep my patience (wasted 3-4 hours by now), so this time someone came up with us. Of COURSE he couldn't get into room and then determined it was the card reader and SOMEONE WOULD COME TO OUR ROOM AND FIX IT IN TEN MINUTES (we at least were FINALLY left into our room at this point). We waited two hours - phone didn't have any extensions to call and I think I hit about every extension possible to no avail). By the way, we were told the room steward had the afternoon off after getting our rooms ready (we found a housekeeper on another floor before we got left into our room and that is what she told us - after she came and tried our keys to no avail too). So finally our room steward returned and called for help on his phone. Someone came and HONEST TO GOD - SAID HE WOULD RETURN SHORTLY - I EVEN SAID HOW MANY MINUTES AND HE SAID GIVE ME 10-15. Well, NO ONE FREAKINIG RETURNED. We missed dinner and we were furious. Since we were there with 30+ neighbors they told us to let them know as they should at least offer us a specialty dinner or one day refund. After very nicely explaining what happened at guest services they let us talk to someone else and told us to stop down later or tomorrow and they would let me know what they would do. Stopped down the next day and nothing was done. The guy could see from the screen that we had issues and went back into a room and told us they would send something to our room. And guess what they sent for eight hours of NOTHING but aggravation - a simple bottle of champagne. Other than that, food was nothing like other cruise lines and elevators were atrocious - so crowded that most times it was impossible to get on first time. Buffet was a zoo - you couldn't even walk around to get your food. The ship was beautiful though. Read Less

I’m a silver latitudes, almost gold level. Have also cruised princess and carnival. Embarked out of Miami, got to the pier at 10:30, group 3 boarding card. The rear gang plank broke, so we weren’t called to get on the ship till 1:30pm. Once onboard I went immediately to get cirque show tickets only to be told that show was cancelled. Stayed on deck 5 a large family ocean view, which was a good size for 4 adults. The casino was the worst ever. Many complaints about tightness if machines, but you are in international waters so remember us governing rules don’t apply. 1st night someone will win big to draw you in. After that it’s all downhill. A costly, painful lesson. I lost enough to have stayed in Haven, elevated to pearl level mid cruise, and not once did a casino host ever come and introduce themselves to me. I finally went to desk and asked for the head host. He was nice, however didn’t even comp our alcohol on board or 3% money charge fee. I’m not an alcohol drinker, so the drink package wasn’t a deal for us. The casino and mid ship is Saturated with smoke smell that goes up the center of the ship, even to the 8th deck. We felt nickeled and dimed to death on this ship. A comment we heard by many we talked to. You can charge gambling money to your card, at a 3% fee, which really adds up, 15 bucks a day per person room gratuity. There were 4 in our room(420 bucks for the week). And even if you purchase the drink package which includes a 20% gratuity, you are automatically charged another 20% gratuity per drink. Bought the soda package for me and my daughter. Soda on the entire ship lacks carbonation. Of course you will pay for almost all entertainment, bingo, deal or no deal, photos, etc etc. If you want a lounge chair at the pool, expect to save one by 8am, or you are out of luck. Not enough drink waiters at the pool, waited 15 minutes standing at bars to get a drink or soda. One pool waiter told the lady lying next to me that it would be better for her to go to the bar herself and get a drink, that he would be about 30 minutes. She gave him her card and order, and it was about 30 minute wait before he returned. She was a gold latitudes member and said this was worst service she had ever had on Norwegian. Said she hadn’t had her room made up in 2 days. Our cabin steward Erwin was wonderful. And jenelean our server in the Manhattan room was great. We ate there 3 nights and requested her area. Food overall was average to good. Paid extra for Tappanyaki, it was our best meal, huge portions and fun meal. I booked our excursions, shows, and dining prior to boarding. If you wait you may get shut out on your dates and times. Staff was nice overall, just seemed a little overworked and not enough of them. Read Less

On this cruise, the quality of all the baked goods.Bread, rolls, and even paid for desserts from the coffee shop, where dry, tasteless and barely edible. There was no room service menu,(except morning menu),in our room. And the bread ,that was supposed to be toast was like warmed up stale bread. And the biscuit on the sausage biscuit we paid for was nothing like biscuit texture, from that menu.We requested Anytime seating, and a table for 2.And their idea of a table for 2 is now,2 person tables, shoved so close together, with other tables for 2.That you bump arms with the people sitting next to you.And a private conversation is completely out of the question. The entertainment was a whole lot of trivia. And very little live music. In anything but the showroom. Our room steward was told to not come to our room, before 12pm.Because my husband likes to stay up and watch all the late shows. He consistently tried to come in each day.And after my husband told him the third time.He started cleaning the adjoining room next door and smacked the vacuum cleaner on the door. And we could hear him laughing about it each day.The quality of this cruise, has me really hoping this isn't Carnivals new norm.As we have an Alaska cruise in August. Ive been on 4 carnival cruises and this by far was the worst one. I don't even know where to begin. The boat constantly smelt like donkey butt, walking up and down the hallway to our room made me want to vomit countless times. The only good food on the boat was Guys Burger Joint and the breakfast buffet in the mornings. The customer service was TRASH, i couldn't believe it. My boyfriend and i had a couples massage that was roughly around $300 us (were from Canada) and i felt so sick through-out the entire thing, i said no hot rocks and the lady still put hot rocks. I had to rush away after because i was going to get sick. Later that night we received a voucher for $50 off at the spa & we thought oh well we just had a massage, lets see if we can use this towards it since we didn't plan on going again. We went down to the guest services and the guy explained that the spa was a different company so we would have to go ask them but that he didn't think it would be a problem. Well... we get up to the spa and explain our situation and politely ask and the lady immediately had such bad attitude and was like " no they're delivered at a specific time, you can't use it towards that but you can put it to another service." and gave us the b****iest look. We just walked away in complete dissatisfaction. We also both purchased the "social plan" wifi which only allows you to go on facebook, messenger, and snapchat and the top airline sites for $50.. the other Carnival i went on was $10 a day for all around wifi, which is how it should've been. This one didn't work while we were in our room, we had to go all over the boat just to get it to work, i tried to video call my mother via messenger like it says and it wouldn't work. Regular features on those sites weren't working either. We were so angry and annoyed at this point in the cruise. We went down to the guest services and explained to them everything and expressed how it wasn't fair and once again, TRASH customer service. The lady just looked at us and was so quiet and just said video calling doesn't work for our plan (it never said that when we purchased) and said there was nothing she can do and just kept looking around. We walked away again! so fed up of carnival. Its not over yet, we were at the bar one night and we just wanted gingerale because i was not feeling well and to be fare, it wasn't that busy. My boyfriend was trying to get the bartenders attention for a can of gingerale and he just straight up YELLED at us and said "are you next?!"with the dirtiest look on his face. It was so rude! Also every set of cutlery i grabbed whilst aboard was dirty, it was disgusting.Theres probably more but I'm going to end it with this last one. Every single time we got pizza from the 24 hr pizza place, it was burnt. EVERY SINGLE TIME. So on our last night i was so FED UP of everything and the service i was getting that i decided to ask the guy for "non burnt lightly toasted pizza" when he handed me yet another burnt pizza. He looked so annoyed with me and just gave the burnt one he tried to give to me to the lady behind me and she looked so displeased. I explained ill wait and he just gave me a dirty look. the fresh one came out and he only gave me 2 slices of it and i said no i want a full one please.. once again ANOTHER dirty look. Then my boyfriend asked for him to politely refill the parmesan when he had a chance and he then again just gave him the dirtiest look. LIKE IM SORRY BUT WE PAID FOR THIS, FOR EVERYTHING AND IT WAS JUST COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I will never sail carnival again. Read Less

We have sailed on all the RCI big ships and have always enjoyed those cruises. This ship had some interesting new features like the musical stairway to the buffet and the Mexican cafe. It also had some downgrades like the public restrooms with paper towels that disintegrated in your hands. The food was okay but their steak and prime rib, even in Cagney's Steakhouse, was chewy and fatty. The shows were excellent as they always are on RCI. But there were over 900 children on this ship and we saw and heard every one of them. The noise level was incredible. The was no place to enjoy a quiet meal. Even the Solarium which is for adults only had kids in the bistro. Getting a chair around the pool in the Solarium was a challenge and even though the hot tubs hold over 20 people, late afternoon was the only time we could get in. This was truly a ship for young families. Parents take their children out of school anytime of the year so even our strategy of never cruising when kids are on school vacation doesn't apply anymore. If you are over 60 years old, this is not the ship for you. Read Less

Talk about going back in time and squeezing every inch out of stateroom layout -- Symphony of the seas excelled in this. From the 6 1/2" wide nightstands, to the 12" clearance from side of bed to balcony sliding glass door, to having to close the TV to the wall to walk past, to no place to sit anything down because they removed the coffee table - They did it all in an Oceanview balcony stateroom, Category 4D. Uncomfortable for two people, let alone more. Shows were poor - we were not the only ones who left early at their latest rendition of Hairspray, and the Hiro water show (no swimming or diving - just kicking water and yelling), and Flight. An unexpected delight was Skate 2.0, an non-reservation ice skating show that was fantastic. Main dining room was total disorganization. Our reserved table was given away two nights in a row even though the Maître De was fully aware of the problem Read Less

I have cruised with Royal 10 times over the past 10 years and have been on a number of their ships including the sister ship Allure of the Seas. This cruise on Symphony was plagued with issues from poorly trained guest services employees to the bar staff and availability of little things like soda and straws. This ship is clearly trying to be eco conscious however is missing the mark BIG time... The rooms aren’t as clean and as fresh smelling then they were in the past. The shower water pressure is much lower vs. older ships. They have also resorted to providing paper straws (I have no issue with this) in a plastic disposable cup!!! What’s the point!? There were dozens of plastic cups in the water from the ones on the pier when you get back on the ship at a stop to all throughout Haiti... The general areas of this ship are often dirty and in some cases even smell... Finally I purchased the KEY for many of its benefits and unfortunately few of them actually worked. Most of the employees didn’t know much about it and resulted in few actual benefits received. Although a promising feature I would NOT RECOMMEND the Key on Symphony. Read Less
