My husband and I cruised royal Caribbean in the past and after finding their staff rude and condescending Carnival seemed like the logical choice when we were looking for a cruise line to take our kids on for our family vacation. So first let down was during embarkation, going through security my husband who is a former active marine gets stopped because he has an hollow bullet bottle opener on his keys. A gift I bought him because it was a bullet fired in Iraq during a former tour that had been custom made. Keep in mind this is hollow with a tip so dull even if it was fired it would bounce off its Target. I might be able to overlook this if we had not made it through security with a wine bottle opener that not only had a stainless steel corkscrew on it but also a 2 inch straight blade. So please tell me what the more dangerous thing ? So thanks for the appreciation for your veterans service. The towel policy is completely assanine , while most ships have crates of white towels for you to take from, Carnival makes you sign out every towel you take with your folio number , which is yet another 4 digit number for you to remember on top of your room number. AND ! If you are in a room that is ajoined to another room don't think you can check out and return towels to your ajoining room account where say your husband and 2 kids are assigned , no no no , your folio number only , doesn't matter your one big happy family , keep track of everything you sign out or prepare to be harrassed . But THE CHERRY ON TOP of everything had to be ..... Carnival makes it super nice and convenient to pre pay for things. Which we did with everything we possibly could ! Paid for the rooms in full ... Obviously that's required but we also paid our gratuities in full , paid for our excursions in full , all 4 of our kids bubbles packages as well as my husband's cheers package . We also placed a $15 limit on each of our children's sign and sail cards to visit the arcade or the candy shop or whatever they chose to do while enjoying their time on the ship. So the kids go to the arcade and spend their money and two days later my husband and I go to the arcade with them to play and everyone's cards are declined , so we proceed to guest services to see what's going on and much to our surprise our children have racked up somewhere around $600 worth of an arcade tab. So we ask what happened to the $15 limits and carnivals guest service response ? Why didn't you come to the service counter to verify the limits were properly set on the first day on board ? Well I don't know , how about the fact that the first 2 days on board the line for guest services was 2 miles long wrapping around the boat with a 2 hour minimum wait . And considering I took care of everything BEFORE I got on the boat my idea of vacation is not starting it off verifying that you did your job ! Everything else was taken care of , we had the tickets for our excursions , our kids were able to get their hearts desire of soda and my husband his fill of alcohol why would this not also be taken care of ? So what else did Carnival do or say ? Nothing and we got stuck with a $600 arcade bill , a pretty hearty mistake for us to have to cover , so thanks for that treat Carnival. The one good thing I have to say is about the dining team. We had a crew from the Philippines, the primary guy serving us was GERENE and he is fantastic ! Day 1 he had our kids drinks memorized as well as my husband's preferred drink beverage. He was always on top of everything , interacted with our kids so well , catered to our picky eater without batting an eye and knew everyone's names at the table by the second night. Truly the only people on board that made the cruise enjoyable and worth the money we spent. In the end I would rather pay Royal more money to have rude service people who do their jobs than pay carnival to have them completely fall short of impressive customer service or even mediocre service . We sailed on the Carnival Sunrise as part of a large 40+ group of friends, so we did not choose this particular ship or itinerary. We have sailed with Carnival before and are Gold level members. Embarkation: We were pre-assigned a time to show up to check in for boarding. That was excellent and went very smoothly. Hats off to Carnival and the NYC port for making what used to be a nightmare, a pleasant experience. Cabin. We had a balcony cabin on level 6. We were near the Atrium. The room was quiet despite the loud night-time parties in the Atrium. The room location was ok for most areas of the ship we frequented. Our cabin steward and staff were extremely friendly and efficient. Our plumbing worked fine! Balconies were cleaned during our cruise, which was nice. Plenty of USB & AC outlets for our electronics. Air conditioning was sufficient. Public areas: The pool areas were crowded as usual on a ship, especially on sea days as you would expect, however, the pools are too small for the number of guests on board. We did not even want to go in as there were shoulder to shoulder people in the pool most of the time. NOT INVITING!. The lack of staff to clean the dishes from the pool area made for a messy area much of the time. Poor ship design between the Guy's Burger joint and the Lido Marketplace made a narrow passageway that caused traffic jams constantly. I was always afraid my food would be knocked into and spilled moving from outside to inside. The coffee/tea area, ice cream machine and the pillar/railings make for a very narrow 2 way passage. The air conditioning in some areas either did not work or was poorly designed. We found "hot spots" all over the ship. Food: The dining room food was fine, wait staff worked very hard. Most of the time I received what I ordered. The Lido marketplace buffet was overcrowded most times, It seemed to run past the stated closing each day as there were still people waiting in line to get food at the closing hour. Buffet food was ok, not exceptional. We ate there only twice. Guys burger joint was fast and good, the Blue Iguana Cantina was OK but fast to get food, Pig & Anchor was excellent! Highly recommend if you like southern BBQ! Lucky Bowl was excellent! No lines to speak of most of the time. we ate there frequently. Did not try the 24 hour pizza but we heard it was good. Did not try Bonsi Sushi (extra charge), it was empty most of the time. The Red Frog pub was a large area, not crowded, beers were ok. Personally I did not like the Red Frog "red ale", but the Toasted Amber was good. The ship seems to have only 4 flavors of ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry & butter pecan). Only the first 3 are available soft serve, butter pecan is available in the dining room with the other 3 flavors. Personally I wanted more choices in the dining room as Ice cream ins my choice of dessert. Not a fan of cakes, etc. Lido buffet was also one of the poorly air conditioned areas of the ship, it was hot most of the time, which made eating uncomfortable. Staff was good cleaning the tables. Ports of call: Grand Turk: The ship dock at Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville. Just a pool/beach stop, nothing to see there. Food & drink is for purchase only, not free. We took a private trolley tour with Island Trolley Tours (not a ship excursion). the were excellent. If you want to see the island, this is the only way ($30/pp) Ship tour is twice that. Buy tickets on beach or online prior. San Juan: Ship docks right in town, El Morro is a long walk but do able with the time allowed. Amber Cove: Another pool stop. Pools are very crowded both in Margaritavile & Amber Cove. Nothing to do there other than shop & swim in the waist high water. We did not swim in the pools as we dislike over crowded pools with no shade opportunity other than hiding under a foot bridge. Disembarkation: Handled well. we lined up around 0830 to get tags. we had tag # 8. This got us off the ship around 1030. We waited in the Liquid Lounge. The only complaint I had was I did not have any idea when our number would be called. We had someone picking us up and I was not sure when to tell him to be at the dock. Geting off the ship and getting our luggage was excellent, and efficient. Customs was a breeze! Final thoughts: Level 3 was the best serenity area on the ship. Forget the official Serenity deck as it was also overcrowded and no shade. Deck 3 off the Atrium was quiet, had a panoramic ocean view, a nice breeze, and was near the Atrium bar. Plenty of deck chairs also! If you like crowds, loud parties, so so ports of call and long lines...this is the cruise for you! Read Less

This was my platinum cruise and was very convenient choice for us but I absolutely do not want to ever go on this ship again and will def rethink ships remodeled! This ship was old and had a negative history. ( fire, arrest and even a death ) So in order to save the ship they had to change the name and redo. Big problem was they didn't think it all through or just didnt care) It was a smaller older ship. The corrections made them more money and passengers more annoyed They did away with laundry rooms on most floors and added more rooms. They made everything we like smaller! They added more dining choices BUT many are for a price! They took away much of the dining space ( free) and left people waiting in ridiculousy long lines for food... The pools were literally standing room only ! Serenity did not have their own pool either. SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!! I smelt smoke pretty much everywhere. I know this is huge issue for many but one would think remodeling would help things but it certainly did not. Carnival ships are set up the worst of all ships when it comes to avoiding second hand smoke,, In order to get to certain areas you have to walk through the casino which is ALWAYS disgustingly full of smoke! Not only that but the area is open to all the floors of the atrium so the smoke hits everyone! Constantly seeing people walking around with their faces covered. They have very very little food for kids and it was an issue just to get milks and juices. unless the go to the camp carnival, there is nothing for them to do. They took away most of the free room service . It now only goes to 6p . After 6 you pay! To sum it up. They added more rooms to make more money . More people with less room to play ( except casino) less free dining, Read Less

If I could do two and a half stars, I would. We decided to do a cruise, which was not something we had ever done before. We decided on this ship because it was well priced, out of NYC (which is where we live), recently refurbished, and Carnival has a good reputation as being a family friendly cruise line with great kids amenities. The Good: The stewards and other staff were lovely. Very nice and friendly. The Bonsai Sushi Restaurant was very good and well priced. Lucky Bowl was a terrific lunch time option if you didn't mind eating soup for lunch when it was 90 degrees out. The lobster rolls were good at the seafood shack, but also had an additional up-charge. The fries were consistently excellent. Chris Williams (the cruise director) was a lot of fun. Puerto Rico was an excellent port and we had a terrific time there. The kids really enjoyed putting on their bathing suits and watching movies while in the pool on the Lido deck. The Average: I was in one of the Port Hole rooms and one of the beds is obviously a sofa that is converted into a bed. It was very hard. My husband slept in the other bed which was far too soft for me. In room entertainment is very limited. Our snorkel excursion at Grand Turk was fine. Trivia contents we mostly esoteric and not real competitive trivia. The Bad: Honestly, where to begin? There were lines for everything. The ship is very poorly laid out and very cramped. They said the anytime dining and the set time dining had the same menus, but they did not. My kids (7/9/10) HATED the kids club. After the first day they referred to it as "baby jail" and refused to go. The reason for this cruise was the great amenities for kids. While they liked the water slides and the ropes course, that was about it. For a ship that was recently refurbished, it was very run down. Sewage smells in the hallways, the sprinkler head in our cabin was held on with duct tape, doors did not close, things had already fallen off the walls and elevators consistently did not work. Restaurants: (in order of appreciation): Bonsai Sushi (mentioned above) -- up-charge Fahrenheit 555 -- up-charge. The Waygu beef was excellent, the lobster bisque excellent, and that was about it. It was as good as any third tier steakhouse. The service was OK. Seafood Shack -- up-charge Excellent lobster rolls and fries. The crab was meh. Avoid the oysters. Lucky Bowl -- Included VERY good, as long as you are okay with soup on a hot day. Cucina de Capitano -- Up-charge. Pretty consistent pasta place. Not sure why there needs to be more than a $5 up charge on this. Hit or miss at lunch (when it is free). Meat Lasagna was odd. Felt like it was made with brisket. The Pizza place (I can not remember the name) - Included. It's good. Sunrise Restaurant -- Included. VERY hit or miss. The service is slow. The waiters mostly didn't understand special requests and you would have to ask multiple times. The food went from absolutely awful (salmon my first night...sad shrimp cocktail) to delicious (my kids loved the pork chop. The chicken breast was very good). Avoid the fruit "soups". They taste like melted ice cream. Brunch here was surprisingly good, however, and I highly recommend the brunch spaghetti. It was delicious. Guys Burger Joint (burgers) -- Fine for burgers. Tastes like fast food, which is is. Blue Iguana (Mexican) - Not great. BBQ Place -- never tried. Deli - (hit or miss) Lido Marketplace - AWFUL. Badly laid out. No concept of line management. We did this as infrequently as possible, but it made all the other restaurants around it feel cramped and uninviting. The food was truly awful with the exception of the Indian buffet day for some reason.(I tried it that day as a joke and was pleasantly surprised). I will not do a carnival cruise again. avoid. Usually good. Limited choices Poor quality, poor service in main dining room. Buffet cut choices by more than 1/2. Afternoon is a burger or pizza. Not a whole lot more. Long lines at buffet, pizza took forever to make. Long line as well there. Deli: forget it. One person helping long line, and selections have changed. Found many areas dirty. Public bathrooms not cleaned enough. Ship showing its age. Rust around doors. Shows: well boring. Not the best. Not great for kids. Same show we saw on another Carnival cruise. Oh, but if you want to have stuff sold to you every minute, well then come on board. That they excel at. Will sell you anything and everything, and pushy to make you buy. Drinks were good, but some bars took quite a while to serve you. Hey not every Carnival cruise can be the best. This one did let me down in many ways. Hopefully we’ll give them a try again in the future. Read Less

We chose this cruise as a family vacation for 16 of us. We love cruising and have probably done about 6 over the years, but this was our first Carnival cruise, and sadly will probably be our last. This crew is MISERABLE, never, EVER have I ever met a staff so UNFRIENDLY! Our only saving grace was our waiters, other than that, NO ONE ! Yes, we all have bad days, but to be down right rude to guests is unacceptable. For example being told, "Isn't that what the sign says?" (with a shake of her head) after asking a simple question at one of the stores on the Promenade, having eyes rolled at you by more than ONE staff member, or having pictures swiped out of your hand at PIXELS... What is that about? I believe this ship is severely understaffed, and yes, that will cause unhappiness with the crew, but honestly you expanded the number of guests to close to 4,000 and yet did not increase your staff (I asked, they didn't!). So, what does this result in? LONG lines EVERYWHERE (ex: food, and events), not enough seating to adequately meet the needs of your guests, oh and did I mention, grumpy, rude, staff? You go on vacation to get away from it all, this was a rude awakening for us. Every other cruise we ever went on had staffs that went above and beyond, and truly deserved praise (, to actually have my room steward ask we twice, "So, you mean you want me to come in twice a day?" ....LOL, ummmmmmm, yes, a steward straightens in the morning, and folds down the beds at night. What am I missing? Is this not a "Carnival" norm? This is a beautiful ship, and with all this being said, we made the most of this vacation. My issue is really with Carnival, we are long time Royal Caribbean guests, and wanted to give the FUN ship a try, but this was it for us. When you invite almost 4,000 guests aboard, the expectation is that it will be a memorable experience for all 4,000 on board, I mean after all, isn't that what they paid for? I understand this is my opinion, and others may feel differently, however, when 16 people in one group agree that this was the worse cruise experience any of us have ever had...I am glad I wasn't the only one to experience it. Like others, I was so excited for this cruise, and now that it is over, this is the ONLY negative review I have ever written. When someone as easy going as myself has a problem, believe it! Read Less

Honeymoon, no airfare required, Platinum status with Carnival this cruise seemed like a great option. 2 days prior to sailing we got call to upgrade from french door interior to balcony for $300 total. Since this was our honeymoon sailing we did it. The entire cruise I received all paperwork for another couple. Our room steered even called us by these names when we finally met hi m on day 4. Despite going to guest services several times, the name confusion continued until the last day when we received a bill in the other peoples names. Once we met the room steward, he'd did a good job, our room was clean, but there was no interaction with him or friendly banter. He did write a Happy Honeymoon note on the mirror on day 5 and they were a few towel animals during the week. Room was comfortable, balcony very rusty, bed very comfortable. The headline shows were AWFUl, the cruise director phenomenal, Take Two and Coconotes Band were very good as well. Overall the safe was present, but not friendly, warm or welcoming with the exception of a few bartenders. The overall dining experience was terrible. Food served cold continually. overcooked or undercooked. Tablecloths only on formal night and no type of dress code is at all enforced. Drink service was very slow in dining room and the buffet food was awful. The best places to eat were the taco/burritto bar and Guys Burger joint. The pizza was even gross. I watched the entire cruise officers pass by passengers without even a smile or a nod. We resorted to paying for there steakhouse for the last two nights and the food was good, but the service was extremely slow. I am not a news cruiser and I rarely feel as passionate as I do writing this negative review. My honeymoon was not acknowledged and my platinum status was not either. So disappointing. I am booked on the Sunrise in November and I think I am going to cancel. Read Less

Royal Caribbean ships have outgrown their ability to serve their customers. It starts with boarding. We were a group of 12 with 5 rooms. Only one piece of luggage was delivered to our room and that one was after we complained multiple times to various people and were even taken to the luggage room looking for it. The rest of our luggage was found on our floor but no where near our rooms. The luggage handlers pulled the luggage out and dropped it in the first available spot. Dinner service was extremely slow (2 hrs) the first 2 days. Mom complained on day 2 because we never got our drinks, and there were people who arrived after us but were done and leaving before we received our main course. It improved after our complaints. However, very little vegetables are provided with meals so plan to order the Ceasar salad every night. The one flowerette of broccoli provided was raw - could not cut with dinner knife. Meals were adequate but nothing special. Prime rib was not hot, fish was dried out. The bartenders and sports teams (flow rider and zip line) were excellent. The room attendants varied. Dwayne cleaned 2 of our rooms and was excellent. He actually found the missing bag on a different floor. The rest of us had acceptable service but he did nothing special. If you were in your room, he skipped it and did not come back. This happened more than once even when told he could come in and refresh the bathroom. They no longer provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion. There is a shampoo and body wash combo that dries out your hair. We did not pack lotion because we are used to it being provided. Purell hand sanitizers dry your hands. There was only news, children’s programming and ship videos and sales on tv. There are movies but they cost $11.99 each. Shows were excellent but some were only available during our assigned dinner time versus an early and late show that gave you the option to see it. We had balcony rooms and the hvac was unable to cool our rooms. We kept the balcony doors closed with the curtains drawn one day while we were in port and the room was still warm. We slept on top of the covers and would still wake up sweating. The issue is the balcony door design. There is a rubber gasket around the door closing a large gap that you could put your finger through. This 1/2 inch gap is sucking the ac from the room. Inside areas were cooler and we often left our rooms to cool off. I have to admit that we have traveled Royal Caribbean in the past but for the last 12 years have been on Princess. Maybe our expectations were unrealistic given the size of the ship and number of passengers. Read Less

We were a family of nine and we chose this cruise because it fit into everyone's schedule. Next time we will not leave from Ft. Lauderdale. More than half the guests were seniors which meant that there weren't many things for children to do on board. The food was okay. I liked the food better on our first Royal Caribbean cruise. There weren't many dairy free dessert options. The staff, however, were pretty cool. I had a pretty nasty indecent with a sales associate in the Effy jewelry store on the ship and it wasn't addressed by management. Outside of that incident the staff on the Caribbean Princess were pretty good. The pizza spot, Slice, makes incredibly delicious pizza. The coffee shop/ice cream bar was good at delivering cones but it seemed like everyone assigned to the coffee bar was figuring it out. The ship seemed dated but clean. It was only my second cruise so perhaps all ships look dated. There was a sewage smell that we smelled often that was off putting nut I guess that is the price you pay on a ship. I probably won't cruise on Princess for a very long time because fo the racist incident I experienced and since there are other options but it was an experience. Read Less

I chose this ship for a family cruise (10 people) because I had been on other Royal Caribbean ships. The door to the handicapped accessible cabin was automatic if you were able to put your key card over the reader an turn the handle. In order to exit the room I was told to push a mechanism over the door. This was an impossibility while seated on a scooter n On other Royal. Caribbean ships I had found stand alone handicapped restrooms that someone could enter to assist me. On this ship I found the accessible restrooms in the back of the regular restroom. The location made it difficult to enter and leave while riding a scooter. The main dining room was very crowded. The chairs on each side of the table were either touching a wall or the back of the chairs at the next table. My husband had to climb into his chair because it backed into a post and couldn’t be moved. Our waiter and his helper did a wonderful job despite the fact they had a difficult time serving us. We told them we were family and didn’t mind passing food. As far as Coco Cay was concerned I found it very handicapped unfriendly. There were few concrete paths and most things were located on the sand. I could not go to the little shops because they were in the sand. I got food at the barbecue place and then could not sit at a table because they were all on the sand. There were few places with shade that did not have be gotten to by walking in the sand. The photographers took many pictures and in them they wanted us to give the thumbs up sign. I really wanted to give a thumbs down sign but did not do so because I knew they were only doing what they had been told to do. We found the ship very noisy. The only way we could attend the shows was by wearing earplugs. It was impossible to have a conversation in most of the lounges because the noise level was very high. Many activities occurred on deck five and many times it was impossible to get through on a scooter. People would be texting or walking backwards. When I saw them heading toward me I would stop. When they ran into me they would be very rude and blame me. I am sorry to say that the asymphony of the Seas was a great disappointment. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the port was New York which was a manageable drive. The embankment was annoying we sat in boiling heat waiting to get onboard for about 2 hours. Once onboard, we had to PAY for drinks and could not use Cheers pkg until the next day. The entertainment on the ship was great, talented dancers/singers, hilarious comedians, the folks running games onboard were friendly and personable. The karaoke was disappointing at times because usually loaded with kids- no separate adult sessions. The so called ADULTS ONLY area was impossible to use due to folks leaving their stuff there all day long. There was ONE buffet for the over 3,000 passengers(ship was overbooked). The wait to get food at the Buffet was usually about 20 to 30 minutes. The food in the main dining rooms where dinner is served was less appealing than the buffet so we didn't bother to waste our time after trying it a couple times. The room stewards were amazing because not only did they clean your room in the morning and at night, they gave you personal attention. Due to the poor design of this ship, you had to walk through the Casino located on deck 5 in order to get from one side of the ship to the other. While the entertainment and a handful of crew were amazing, the overall experience was unpleasant. In the end, the value we got for our money just did not amount to much and we would not go on this ship again. In fact, I am not sure we would do CARNIVAL again. Read Less

Book another cruise, it’s not a vacation, this experience only consists of many many lines. The buffet area is really small to accommodate all the passengers, the line is constantly very long to get food. People would take their time picking out what they want slowly in the pile of food which also delays the line. Then you have people that are afraid to line up again, (after about 15-20 minutes of waiting) They take piles and piles of food so they don’t have to line up for a second time and end up wasting food. In addition, they take all that food the tray is almost empty for others who have also been waiting. I must say the lucky bowl is quite fast and very good but they are not open all the time. The pizza is open 24 hours. The crust is really thin but it’s good. Again, the line is extremely long. A woman in front of me ordered 7 pies, taking all the pizza that was left. Everyone behind her ended up waiting another half hour for more pizza to be made. The burger place is good but the line is also horrible. The deli is not always open, you do have lots of options. Cold and hot sandwiches, but the line is horrendous. At the buffet, my mother in law wanted two pieces of corn so instead of lining up, we nicely asked a woman on the line if we could go in front of her to get it and leave. The lady behind her started getting loud and insisted that we line up. Her attitude was uncalled for and extremely rude. Everyone on that ship was there to have a good time, I see no reason for her to have yelled at us. We never had a problem letting someone just grab what they wanted as long as they asked. There are not much choices with restaurants, you have the sunshine and radiant, the servers are overly worked and you can tell they are super tired but still continue to do their jobs. I must say the waiters are doing their best to keep everything very professional. The food is not a big deal, and there are not much choices, but it’s better than lining up. All the other restaurants such as: Sushi, steak house ($38per person), and Italian food require an additional charge. Why is there an additional charge for food on top of the $6,000 that we paid for the 4 of us. We were all very excited to visit Grand Turks. What a disappointment. The beach is only a few feet away from the ships, leaving very little room to swim. The area is so dirty. There is garbage everywhere and a lot bugs crawling on the sand. I kept asking cruiseship members which chairs and umbrellas belonged to carnival-no one was able to answer me. Every chair we parked on some guys comes up to us harassing for us to pay $25.00. They said the beach chairs in the front all belongs to them and the beach chairs in back belongs to carnival. No cruise members there for us to ask and by the time we settled everything down we just gave up arguing with him and just paid him. On top of that there’s an area where these ppl have a horse tied up on this tree, the smell at that area I felt like we were in a zoo. San Juan is nice and all site seeing and shopping Amber cove my kids really enjoyed it cause the pool is big and nice. Plus shopping area is big. Entertainment; we’ve been to many cruises the cruise director, the Scotsman is okay. He told us when we see him say “Hi Chris” guess what when we see him he really don’t want to be bothered. In front of a big crowd of ppl he’s all nice and approachable but in reality he’s like don’t bother me! Same ppl doing singing and dancing every night, not too entertaining, magic show sucks just this one guy doing only jokes and card tricks. Juggler is a good show. Pool and slides: don’t bothered going to the pool it’s alway very very crowded. There’s only two small pools for 3800 passengers, WTH. Teenagers running everywhere. During the last day of cruise we had to call security cause kids where knocking on our doors running away. Then we saw them throwing ice cream cones on the stairway. We booked 6 cabins for a family reunion, the pulled out beds is so old and painful to sleep on it. I paid extra for a suite cabin, we have a couch that can turned into a king size bed, the most uncomfortable and hard bed ever. Aches and pains the next day. We made a complaint about the bed with guess service, they gave us a foam top that did nothing. Bottom line don’t spend your money on this cruise ship, the ship is small to accommodate all the guests. Everything they want to charge. They kept the casino open all the time so they can take your money. It’s the worse and last carnival cruise for us. We are done with them. Read Less

I was limited both with time and finances so I tried to avoid 5 plane tickets to a European port and chose this ship and cruise line. This ship came out of NYC which from the start raised a red flag. The entire ship; entertainment, food, and clientele was catering to the urban/hip-hop crowd. I've been on a total of 5 cruises and have gone on back to back cruises out of Italy through Royal Caribbean the past 2 years and never experienced anything such as this. The bartenders confirmed that whatever port you leave is what comes with it. 1) Staff: For a small ship it was very understaffed and the few they had just walked around moping around the deck. Since there are no garbage cans on the open decks where you lay in the sun, the food plates, cups, and napkins were left on the chairs or on the deck to be blown all over the place. I watched several employees walk past chairs where there were dirty plates and cups out in the open and they didn't pick them up. Bartenders and servers would ignore you once they saw that you had the drink package. I've never had to wait for drinks more than 5 minutes on other cruises. The 2 decks that I spent most of the time on LIDO included had water near the pools which is normal, but I almost fell twice near the bars and juice machines because water was flowing everywhere. 2) The "drink package": For starters I'm not a huge drinker, but can make 8 days of drinking worth it. I think with tax it was over $400 with the 10% off discount. The package is NOT included on the day you embark so be prepared to spend money the 1st day. Oh yeah, they allow each adult to bring on board a skinny bottle of wine, BUT you are charged $15.00 for them to open the bottle even if you opened it already. The few basic drinks that I had did have alcohol in them so they weren't awful, but you are limited to 15 drinks per day so spread them out. Soda is included, but the diet coke tasted like flat expired pepsi with a coke label on the can. If you want a great tasting drink with good service go out of your way to the Alchemy bar only. By far the only thing I liked on this cruise. 3) Food: I've never been a huge fan of the restaurants because you order 2-3 things and thats what you get so the buffet is usually a good option. The set up for the buffet on this ship is like a cafeteria. 2 lines where you have to wait until you get to what ever you want even if its only 2-3 things. However, if you are privileged like some of the rude guest on the ship they will jump in and grab only what they want. A good buffet would have several double sided islands where you can jump around to whatever you feel like having. The seating was always packed which meant more plates out on the decks. The clientele scarfed up everything in sight no matter how bad it tasted. To top it off the food was gross. There was nothing appealing that I wanted to go back for. There are 2 Guy Fieri options; the burger place and the pork place. Both were the only things worth eating outside the restaurants. Sushi bar was cheap and good too I will say. Ice machine and ice cream machines were constantly having issues. 4) Entertainment: By far my biggest complaint on tis cruise. Pop stars band was good, but had to play songs that pleased the urban crowd only. On other cruises that I've been on there were a pop band, latin band, solo artists and several piano players who played popular hits. This ship had the Pop stars, 3 violinists that put you to sleep, a piano bar that made you feel claustrophobic, a reggae solo artist with a 7 song playlist, and a DJ who also played R&B. The karaoke bar hour a 1 hour window, but was packed before if started with the same crowd every night. The playlist again was R&B, Soul, New-aged POP so don't bother looking to sing anything you had plans for. We saw the Soul bound show which was good, but the other 2 weren't as good. Latin nights was their version of Latin music; Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, Pitbull etc. Don't bother waiting to hear any Salsa, Merengue, or Bachata anywhere on the ship. The ship stopped in Puerto Rico and DR for Gods sake. The Limelight club at night had a DJ who could only play Hip Hop style music; i.e. Notorious B. Several events that they schedule such as mini golf whole in one competition, nobody from the staff showed up and they never happened. Again completely understaffed. In general I couldn't wait to not only get off that ship and go back to work, but to also write this review. My kids were bored to death The rope course was closed most of the time and the pools were loaded with hair and god knows what floating in there. Cruise director was the most annoying person to hear at 8:00 AM over the speaker every morning. Sorry Chris. To top it odd we had neighbors who would talk outside their cabins with their whinny kid for 30 minutes while the rest of the hallway was trying to sleep. The clientele would not mingle with us no matter how hard we tried. Carnival has lost all my desire to ever book them again and I will never take any cruise line out of the tristate area. Pay the extra money and fly to distant ports. You won't be sorry. I'm going back to Royal Caribbean or Norwegian from now on. Read Less

1. This cruise out of New York to Turks and Puerto Rico and Dominican republic was 9 days it was way to long.... we loved Grand Turks it was a beautiful island and good for beaches and snorkeling. The rest of the ports was not good we had to take a taxi to the beach a ways away in Puerto Rico. Amber cove was just owned by carnival they had zero access to beach we could not go in the ocean not even if we rented a kayak you could not go in the water. The DR was super expensive they wanted $120 for the 3 of us to be taxied to a beach. We never went. The pool at Amber cove was small 3ft deep not something to be thrilled about at all. We didn't want to go into the DR because of all the scary things happening with deaths and such. My Husband took a quad adventure in Puerto Rico not impressive at all it was 1 hr drive to get there then you had a 1.5 hr on quad that you only went 15 mph you couldn't go any faster very boring no wildlife then back on a bus ride 1 hour back, definitely not worth the price at all dont waste your time on this excursion. On the cruise the juice tasted like pure concentrated juice you could not drink it it was gross. We were bummed about the 24hr food the only thing that was open the whole time was a pizza place the pizzas were small and very thin crust. They closed all the other food early. The buffet food was not impressive very bland not much flavor at all we had to salt everything. The one thing we loved was the sea bass and steak. The lines for food were sooo long Everything else we were not happy with. The restaurant was nice but the service was very slow. I think I know what's happening they book the cruise to the MAX of people then you have to wait a very long time for food. Always a long wait for food. The very best thing that they have going for them is their self serve soft Ice cream. This cruise is definitely meant for people who loves the heat and doesnt mind waiting long periods of time for food and they just get drunk. This is a drunk cruise. LOTS of people drunk. The water slides is super small. No elevator to the top so my son in a wheelchair could not go on the slides. Oh and you can forget going swimming in the pools there is 2 very small pools that were packed with people we never used their pools the entire time we were on the cruise. The water in the pools were so gross brown in color. You had to pay for everything on board including wifi, drinks beside nasty juice, water & coffee . We downloaded the hub app they said you can keep in contact with your family why on the cruise well you even had to pay for that $5each person such a rip off. Seriously we paid over $1000 per person to go on this cruise and they cant even pay for us to keep in contact with our loved ones on the cruise. (The people you came with not the ones back home) so for the price of this cruise we are NOT happy with the service the cruise itself was supposed to be brand new uumm no not even close they may have put new rooms in and new carpet and new restaurants in but there were alot of stuff on board that we noticed was not new. The layout of the ship was poorly constructed. They were sawing off railings at the buffet while people were trying to eat. I know they have to fix things but they could have waited until most people went to bed not during lunch hrs. The hub app doesnt even work half the time they dont get my messages. They let people smoke inside the casino and the smoke travels to the other floors. The A/C in the rooms has a max on it it was not cool enough for us as there was 4 people in a small room. We had to ask for fan. The main show with the singer's and dancers not very good. Their singing was poor( best off lip singing sorry) and their shows were mostly sexual which I felt was distasteful. Some bartenders we watched didnt give full shots when preparing drinks Read Less

I have been on a total of 5 cruises, this was my 2nd time on Royal Caribbean. This was by far the worst experience I have had. There are those experiences you look forward to once you finally make it on the ship. You hear people talk about the giant party at the beginning as you sail away from the dock. You can't wait to see it for yourself, well my family and I where all ready for the sail away party but NOTHING no music or dancing on the top deck just tons of people confused. Apparently on this ship they try to crame 6500 people on deck 5 where you can't even move or see anything. Just imagine being in a small mall like setting, trying to watch a concert or show. With 6500 other people. No bigger them a basketball court. Having little kids with that many people is not safe. So we missed out on a lot of activities on that floor due to the safety of my children. And of you are interested in food at anywhere close to that time you are out of luck if you want to sit and eat as a family on your family cruise. The food was just ok nothing blew me out of the water. I have been on other cruise lines where the food was fantastic this was by far the worst food. Same thing over and over nothing different and the same all of the ship. You want the same burger you have 4 different places to get it but nothing different. The desserts were pathetic!! The pop machine where broken so you get flat 2 litters of Sprite to drink!! I mostly come on cruises for the food and energy you get from all the music and staff that make it fun. But I didn't get that energy till the last day on the ship. Kids things this was by far my most frustrating part of this cruise. If you say you are going to have face painting from 230-430 and someone gets there at 345 and they tell you sorry that your kid can't get it done because the line is too long is not ok!! This happened multiple times to use and not just on the face painting. It also happened on the moon light rockwall climbing which we got there an hour before it was supposed to close and was told no. If you tried to rock wall climb in the daytime your hands got burned so needless to say that was out. But once we walked back by the face painting booth to see all the kids with face paint and see different people at the end made me furious. They picked and chose who got to get the face painting done. Not a happy momma!! I also purchased the Deluxe Beverage package for my husband and I. I did this so I could order whatever I wanted and not worry about the bill at the end of the cruise. We that didn't work because I would get charged anyway even with my package. So I would have to take time out of my day to go down and sit in the line to talk to the guest service and explain what I ordered. One day while i was at guest service ( which i had to go to at least 5 times) I asked about the wrist bands you could purchase instead of your card. I was told they didn't have anymore which I thought was crazy because it was only the 1st full day of the cruise. He told me the inventory was gone. I am sorry were we not just docked so you could restock your inventory?!? Don't have something for certain guest and not all 6500 people. If I want to purchase something then I should be able to purchase it. And if I waited till maybe day 3 or 4 and they had sold out, I would have understood. But don't say you just don't have enough for everyone. That is crazy to me. Don't plan on using their app to message back and forth while on the ship. You spend more time fighting to keep it up on your phone and miss out on the messages you thought sent. The TV in your room was pointless!! Other cruise lines give you some type of free movies to watch and decent TV. Not on this ship! This ship you get to watch Duggie Hauser family matters and cricket! And the next day can watch the same episode again!! For a ship to not have a huge sporting event on somewhere in the ship is crazy!! On the same cruise line I have been talking about throughout this post they put the the world series games on over the pool so anyone who wanted to watch could and also had a pub in side that had it on aswell. Which means people with kids could still let the kids play while they watched the game. But you could watch Cricket anytime of the day. So as my mom was sick in bed the last 3 and half days she hated the TV! The kids splash pad was great except you had no room to move on the deck around it. The chairs with stools where on top of each other and if you had time to stand up and move you would trip on the one next to you. Another problem I had was this all inclusive?? What does that mean?? Because you had to pay 2.50 per bag of popcorn the side of a juice box! How is this all inclusive??? Other ships give you blankets as much popcorn as you want and a great movie!! The Icecream was so monitored you couldn't even make your own cone!! The kids always look forward to coming back from dinner and seeing what animal they made well we only received 3 out of 7 nights. My other cruise line we received 7 or 7 ! It is all about how your staffs energy reflex on to us as passengers! We really looked forward to this cruise because it was geared more towards kids then before. I will say of you have young kids this is not the ship for you!! Go on the Carnival you will have the time of your life and worth every penny. I do want to say that I had one great experience on this ship and that was our very last night our server Joseph and his right hand man made my girls laugh so hard and finally got to see what I was hoping for the whole cruise! They did magic tricks and even got to see the "pet" mouse!!! They truly made the last night special. I even had to head back early to make sure our luggage made it out by the door in time. He helped my husband carry all of our desserts from the hall back to our room!!! Thank you for making that one night special!! Needless to say I will most likely not go back on this ship while my kids are young. Thanks Read Less

The other two ports, Princess Cay and St. Maarten, were not great and i would have rather spent that time in St. Thomas. The food on the boat was decent. The drinks were very expensive and the wifi was INCREDIBLY expensive. My little sister has fun in the teen area but my youngest sister was often bored when not in the kids club. I was bored a lot on the boat. The staff was pleasant though and worked very hard. Our cabin steward was not the best but my moms cabin steward was a lot worse. The staff in the teens and kids area was pleasant and my siblings liked them. The cruise director is fun but the activities that he led were kind of boring if you’re younger. They give you tiny kid cups to drink from. Food was average. The ship windows were dirty. Everything costs extra. If you buy a soda package for kids, they have go to the bar to get a soda, and carnival adds tips on everything. The staff were hard working, however this is clearly a mismanaged company with an owner who is only interested in making money. Don’t pay for the Wi-Fi, we added this and it only worked about a 20% of the time. Major overcrowding problems on this cruise. We’ve been on Disney and it was first class. The families we were with will never do Carnival again. Think twice before you book, I would not recommend. Posts were full of trash, Grand Turk beach and ocean had cups, trash about. Horses on island thin looked unhealthy. Other passengers told us they snorkeled to view trash and that Carnival had been fined for dumping trash in the ocean. Stateroom hot, we were told the temperature was within carnivals accepted range. They brought us fans. Halls often smelled of sewage. The owner of Carnival should go on this trip! Read Less

This was not our first cruise so we have had some experience to compare it to. First let me say I was highly disappointed when they informed us we would NOT be going to St. Thomas island because one of the "pods" had a bearing that may be going bad. Really? That was just the start and the only thing that was preventing this review was the fact that I did not know how to capture soooooo many sub-par experiences in one review (plus, I really do not want to relive the experience again). It was my 25th wedding anniversary and we had the whole 18 member family on board. The boarding process was atroshes and one big cluster muck from arrival in the transport to boarding the ship. Yes, there are a lot of guests to process, but i'm guessing this isn't their first rodeo and they should have it pretty dialed in. This crew on the dock, checking luggage, processing reservations, .... seemed like a bunch of rookies. You have been going for hours and now it's lunch time, oops, sorry the WIndjammer Market isn't open yet. When they did open a half hour late it appeared they were NOT ready for the rush of hungry passengers. This made dinner even more important. Since we purchased the dinner package it should never be expected that someone should say, "Well, it's not bad for free." It wasn't free and it was 3 shades worse than bad. It was a disgrace for an upscale dinner. Oh, the food was quality, but it was never even warm when it got to the table. By night 4 I was so disgusted I said to the head waiter, "Are you experiencing difficulties with the kitchen equipment, or do you alsways serve the food cold?" I'm not kidding, cold not even luke warm. The only night we had hot food was when we skipped the dining room and went to one of the "private" restaurants on board, Chops. Lunches were just as bad in the Windjammer and if you do not remember high school lunch hours and having to find a seat and eat as quickly as you could, well, this will bring that right back to the frontal lobe. Me and 6500 other people trying to eat in a place with about 2500 seats. Breakfast and lunch were the same as dinner and were seldom warm. Example, spinach omelot was so cold that it had like a shell on it. Disgusting. I'll stay away from talking about the pools, but if this is one of the main reasons you are going- to lie by the pool? Well, you better plan to get up very early, go place a towel of a book or something on the chairs you want so when the time comes, you will have a seat. The pool? If you planned to swim, rethink that. You can sit in the pool shoulder to shoulder with a couple of hundred other guests. No room to swim. We took plenty of exursions but every one was a mad rush to get off the boat and just as bad coming back. One of trips we were to gather with several hundred other guests for an early exit off the ship so that we would be able to avoid the rush and get to the ferry boat. We went to the auditorium at 10 till 11 as ordered. We sat there after being told 10 different times that "It will just be another 10 minutes." That's right more than an hour and a half later we left the ship WITH everyone else. There was no one telling our group to go, no signs, no guides, just following the crowd. Finally, probably a mile off the dock someone starts yelling, "If you are in group 2 you need to line up here." We all lined up and stood in the bahama sun for 15 minutes. Finally we start walking and we walk for what would appear to have been 4 miles. I wouldn't have been so mad except I wasn't allowed because of age, over 45 Read Less

This is my ninth cruise and this was the worst one I have been on. The good parts of it was loading and unloading passengers it was quick and easy. However, Lets start with the ship, when the ship started moving there was no party like there was on the other ones. The pools closed as early as 10 o clock. There were not as many parties and the music for them was really bad. The parties also ended at 2 o clock so afterwards there was nothing to do after and everything is about money. My daughter had a fun pass that I purchased and when I went to the deck to get her the bracelet the guy was trying to charge me twice for it. The site did not specify that the fun pass had credit and was not unlimited either. We also purchased an internet package which was 3 GB's for two devices. They charged me 300 dollars when I had bought 100 dollar package. When I went to guest services I had to argue with them and they only took off 100 dollars but gave me 5.5 GB's. We were charged an extra service fee of 87.50 per person as the tip for the people working and we were not informed that it was not included in the booking they put it on afterwards. For the photos they were very disorganized and when I asked for help the person working told me to "calm down" so my daughter yelled at him. It was very rude. During dinner the same waiter kept taking my daughter to dance to the music they had in the restaurant but would not keep it professional and asked for instagram and he continuously kept messaging her. The guy cleaning the rooms did a horrible job cleaning the room and the room always smelled strange he never took out the trash and on the last day my daughter forgot her license in the room so she went back to go get it and she found the guy who was cleaning our room smoking a cigarette on the balcony of our room. In a non smoking room. The cabin is extemely small compared to the ones on the other cruise ships I have been on. The timing of the ports was also horrible. We arrived at Puerto Rico at 5 PM on the third day and left at midnight which there was not much to see cause it was night time. On the fourth night we arrived at Virgin Islands at 7 AM and left at 6 which was good timing. On the fifth night though we arrived at St Maartin and didn't have time to do anything because we arrived from 6 AM to 1 PM. On the sixth night we were still at sea. Then the seventh night we arrived at the Bahamas from 7 AM to 6 PM and it was a disaster since it was the day before we left so we had to leave the island early to get our photos and pack our luggage up, every other cruise I have been on we would be at sea on the day before leaving the ship. The food was the same in the buffet we did not get any changes and it was awful. Me and my friend ordered the same food in the restaurant and got food poisoning from it. The only thing there was to do on the ship was swim during the day and drink at night. The only night club there was, was filled with younger people as young as 18, there were not multiple clubs like there was on the other ships. I would never sail with MSC again and it was triple the price of Carnival which is the best ship line I have sailed with. Also I called 4 times for more hangers and I did not get them till I told one of the people working outside I needed them. I came on this ship to relax but this was anything but relaxing. Read Less

My wife and I are RCCL and Celebrity fans, so it's painful to report on a cruise that was far below expectations. First, I should note the positives: we decided to treat our three 14-year old grandchildren to a cruise, and, after much hand wringing, elected to book all five of us in a single veranda room -- one of the very few of its type. I was impressed by how well we were able to manage. More about this below. The onboard shows were good, especially Blue Planet -- the entertainment bright spot. The Ice and Water Shows more than worth the effort to see them. To be honest, Mama Mia was a bit disapointing, though the second act was much better than the first. The teend loved the karaoke and the adults loved the disco, so we were well entertained. Likewise, the food was excellent in all the venues we visited, although Johnny Rockets was a bit disappointing. We ate in the main dining room every night, and found it excellent -- especially for this class of ship. We typically sail on Celebrity, and found the food here of equal quality on the whole. The Windjammer buffet was particulaly noteworthy. We ate there on several occassions and found it excellent for breakfast and lunch. We never ate there for dinner. We also loved the Park Cafe. Now to the drawbacks. Prior to departing, RCCL notified most cruisers (for some reason, we were not among the informed) that a propulsion issue would impact our stop at San Juan Puerto Rico, and the visit would be cut short. Anything meaningful off the ship was impossible, so we shopped in the immediate port area briefly, and resigned ourselves to the loss. Shortly after departing San Juan, the Captain announced that we were returning to port due to a medical emergency, and our last stop (Labadee) would be missed. It seems obvious to me that this lost stop was due, not so much to the emergency as the original maintenance issue. That said: safety first, so handling the emergency was and should have been a priority. What rankled was the indifference to the loss by RCCL: no offer of vouchers or other compensation. Nothing! Credit to the Cruise Director for planning replacement activities, but the last two days were still boring. A bad experience should not detract from the efforts of the crew and the general state of the ship, so my ratings for those are based how they would have been received on an typical cruise. Read Less

Very overcrowded, Casino allows smoking, food and staff was above par. Rock of Ages in the main theater was a bunch of high schoolers. Mini Suite emphasizes on mini with a very small balcony. Beds were 2 twins put together to make a king but with a valley between the 2. Very uncomfortable. The water in the sink was scalding hot immediately so if you have small kids keep them away from the sink until the water cools down. Our suite was 1 level above a night club and the noise kept us up passed midnight.. Ship posts a passenger capacity of 3963 but we were told there were almost 4800 passengers. Forget about a chaise near the pool on sea days or getting someone to serve drinks. Pool area was plain and boring, whitewashed walls. Shore excursion was very overcrowded as well. Most of the time the soap dispensers were empty in the public restrooms. The buffet staff was excellent in reminding us to wash our hands but missed the small area of black mold on one of the walls and ceiling. Disembarkation was a total cluster. We had to leave our cabin by 9am but our disembarkation color wasn’t called until 9:45. We stood on a very long line for another hour trying to get off the ship which took us thru the smokey casino. I tried to enjoy the casino during the cruise but if you are an asthmatic like me “stay away” Read Less

We chose this cruise for our children and grandchildren. Our stop into San Juan was cut short (this was before all the problems). We only had a few hours there. Then, we never ported at their private island because of a medical problem that forced us to return to San Juan. Most ships can airlift someone off; don't know why RC did not do this. Our best port, the private island, was eliminated and we just sailed slowly back to Ft. Lauderdale. What a disappointment for the kids...no zipline, roller coaster, and ocean experiences. I wrote my disappointment to RC and got a canned response that they can change ports whenever! I think they could have given us a refund, free movies, drinks, something for our inconvenience!! Nothing!! We are gold members, but will return to Norwegian and Carnival in the future. The cabin steward and our waiters were top notch. Our balcony was large enough for the 3 of us. The movie screen was totally underutilized. We saw 3 movies on it; one was a documentary on Apollo 11....no one stayed to watch that!! I relayed my disappointment about movie choices and the fact that this could have been used day and night when there was no diving show. The diving show and the ice skating show were excellent!! Needless to say, we will not be traveling on RC in the near future. The kids and grandkids liked Carnival's food better with Guy's Burgers and BBQ. Read Less

This is my second Carnival Cruise, first on Magic. We had a group of 21. Where do I begin? We sailed on June 16th. The pros, the service people work hard, the balcony cabin was nice but (see cons), food was decent, white hot party and mega deck party were fabulous fun and cruise director Simon was awesome. Negatives - ship is poorly designed. Having the majority of the food choices at the same place as the popular pools is just dumb. It caused mobs to gather in one location. They are incredibly understaffed and expect too much from their employees who work hard but can’t meet the demand for service causing long waits for everything. We got the soda package, note that we would never do it again! No soda machines or souvenir cup like RCCL provides. Have to order from the bar which means a 20 minute wait. Frozen drinks are no longer frozen when they finally get to you, food often lukewarm at best. We had four connecting balcony rooms with the intention to have partitions unlocked for one large party balcony except the partitions don’t fold back so they either block your window or your door and they bounce around keeping you up all night. No night service on cabin like we had with RCCL. No real theatrical shows for family to enjoy, Iike Mamma Mia on RCCL’s Allure. (Yes we are spoiled by and love RCCL as is obvious by our comparisons). On board Shops were uninspired, casinos non smoking machines were overrun with smokers with no one enforcing the rules. Seriously in this day and age how difficult is it to implement a non smoking casino? Trust me people will still gamble! Amber Cove was a pleasant surprise (though none of us drank due to the recent death toll}, Grand Turk was disappointing. Have to walk a bit to get away from the water filled with limestone and the locals rob you blind on chairs and umbrellas (free ones are at the ugliest part of the beach and fill quickly) and locals were smoking weed around Cruise families, unbelievable the lack of respect for those providing tourism income, nephew offered cocaine while walking thru one of the shops. Unfortunately bad weather made us skip half moon cay which was disappointing but understandable. We had a great cabin steward, Ricky. However I need to make one last note on a Carnival team member named Brandon. We unfortunately had him as host for trivia several times and for karaoke, regardless how many times he was told he could not be heard, he would not speak up instead just was in his own world oblivious on how to engage guests. At the end of the trip there was delay in getting off boat causing unsafe conditions near elevators. He was clearly given a task to clear areas near elevators, again using his low voice he half heartedly tried to advise people then immediately said I give up and walked away. I don’t say this ever but he should be fired. His arrogance was beyond words. Read Less

I booked Princess because of the reputation of service and quality I am not kidding when I say the majority of staff had attitude our room was Dirty, found shoes in the bathroom (not ours). Work Was done on balcony they left a mess and the steward did not clean it. We are also nickel and dimes for everything We also had a prepaid dinner in the paid restaurant. We went to book in the steakhouse and was told they were all booked and we could eat in the seafood restaurant. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there wasn’t one and I didn’t have a choice Princess, I DO have a choice. There are many other cruise lines out there. If you think Princess will give you great service, think again. Chose Celebration The rooms are great. We had a mini suite Other passengers felt the same as us Read Less

We are veteran cruisers and this was our return to Carnival after only cruising Royal and Celebrity for the last ten years. We chose this ship because it was a family vacation including grandchildren; it left out of Manhattan so no flying was involved and the length and ports were desirable. Embarkation was the worst of all our 30+ cruises. It took us 3 hours waiting in line in a hot terminal before boarding. It was pandemonium and no one would tell us what the problem was. Carnival personnel were not very helpful. We were on the ship by 3:00 pm and it was supposed to sail at 4:00. Muster was postponed until 5:00 and we never left the pier until at least 7:00. No explanations given. Perhaps it was the rainy weather, but don't know why. Our dining arrangements were supposed to be the same as the other family members, but Carnival gave us all different seating times. It was straightened out by the following night but it resulted in waiting in line yet again to correct it. The food in the main dining room was just okay. I am not a fussy eater and enjoy not having to cook, serve and clean up but the selections were not to my taste and the food was just barely warm most of the time. We avoided the Lido buffet most days because the lines were tremendously long. The other eateries (and there were plenty of choices) were more to our liking and we made it a point to eat during off times to avoid those lines. The cruise director was probably the best I have ever experienced. The Flying Dutchman (Chris Matthews) was everywhere on the ship and was absolutely fantastic. I don't think he ever slept. He was a definite asset to Carnival and must have a sweet future with them. I cannot say enough good things about him. He is the best thing I will remember about this cruise. Having been to all of the ports previously, except for Grand Turk, we choose to do beach days rather than excursions. All the beaches we visited were gorgeous, especially Cane Garden Bay Beach in Tortola. We had so looked forward to Grand Turk but were very disappointed in it. We were the only ship in port yet it was still overcrowded. We could not find free beach chairs, and the pool was very crowded as well. The beach was full of seaweed, rocks and looked dirty. Not your typical Caribbean beach. We stayed 1/2 hour and returned to the ship. Our biggest gripe was the extreme overcrowding on this ship. They supposedly added many cabins when it was in dry dock, and there were just too many passengers. Common areas on the ship were few and far between and everywhere you went there were hoards of people. The two pools were inadequate for the number of swimmers; all you could do was just stand there shoulder to shoulder with everyone. We did find that the number of lounge chairs was adequate and we never had a problem finding them poolside. Carnival pool attendants did make it a point to patrol chair hogs and left stickers on chairs warning them their possessions would be taken after 45 minutes if left unattended. Nice touch! We chose to walk off with our luggage and that went pretty seamlessly. We were off the ship and in a taxi by 8:32. All in all, any cruise is better than no cruise, and we had a good time being with family. However, I doubt I would choose to cruise with with Carnival again. Read Less
