It was our first time on Celebrity. I had heard so many good things, but it did not meet my expectations. The buffet was not very good. The food was lukewarm and we did not care for much of the food. Service was just okay. Some staff were great while others were rude. I was really hoping that Celebrity would jump out ahead of the others, but they did not. We did not attend any shows because they were late for us and nothing seemed interesting. The specialty restaurants were all very good and we enjoyed the coffee shop too. I felt that there may have been cut backs that have changed the way that the cruise is conducted. It also seemed that everything was an up sell. Special dining, beverage packages, classes with fees, etc. We went to an Apple class which was basic knowledge. To go further, there was a fee. I don’t want to be nickel and dimed the whole trip. OK, we are Royal Caribbean Diamond Plus members with 24 consecutive cruises on the parent line. This time we wanted to try something different. Although not totally removed from RCCL (they own Celebrity). We felt it was worth a try in that we could keep our loyalty program from RCCL and transfer to Celebrity with the same amenities. I guess we are getting old but we hate the thought of sailing from Miami. The traffic is terrible and confusing getting to the port. Once that was behind us and we were parked and ready to board, we began to see the differences in the cruise lines. We took no more than ten minutes to get checked in and have our documents processed. Everything seemed streamlined and being Elite members of Celebrity got us into check-in without a line. To be fair, the last RCCL ship we were on was the Allure of the Seas and had 5,000 passengers while the Equinox had only 2,850. Again it took less than ten minutes to process us in! The next thing that we noticed was as we entered the ship, there was a crew member there handing us a glass of welcoming champagne! Really classy. Since our stateroom would not be available until 1 PM we headed for the Oceanview Cafe (buffet) to wait and have lunch. We were surprised at the roominess of the cafe as well as the layout and availability of food. The selection was superb. Soon we headed for our Veranda room and found that it was a bit larger than the same room on RCCL. If I remember correctly Celebrity claims their bed is Queen size but we certainly thought it was a King. On deck 8 we had a beautiful view. Our luggage arrived around 2.00 PM. This too was impressive. We found this cruise to be for older folks and enjoyed the lack of children running in the hallways and screaming out near the pool...sorry for that folks but RCCL is more of a family type line which we have learned from past cruises while Celebrity seems to be (after one cruise) a bit upper class with more mature cruisers. Returning to the Oceanview Cafe...we have found that we enjoy the buffet and did not sample the Main Dining Room so we cannot rate that. The Oceanview was something to look forward to every meal. It was great! there was a dedicated station (large) just for breads. A pasta station, pizza, Mexican, Indian, American, salads....wow what a selection! The food was definitely a step up from what we are use to. We did sample the Specialty dining and had one meal at the Tuscan Grille. Located in the back of the ship with a beautiful view it was a great selection for a night. The meals were $45 each and we certainly got our monies worth. The ship itself did not have a flow rider, rock climbing wall etc but the amenities it did have seemed to be perfect for our life style. One very obvious thing we noticed was that the crew was more than happy and just could not seem to do enough for us. Everyone had smiles on their faces and great attitudes. Our room steward was great and did more than we would ever expect. One highlight of the cruise was having a drink in the Martini Bar on deck 4. If you decide to try this cruise please go there and watch the show. If you ever watched Tom Cruise in "Cocktail", these bar tenders made him look like a rank amateur! It was fun to see them mix and pour...please do not miss it. In the same area as this bar, each night they had a dance band and after a while a great DJ took over the music. By the way, one half of the bar is frozen. Yes the bar has a coating of ice on it..novel idea. On our arrival back in Miami we chose the "self assist" program and were off the ship by 7.00 am. Well organized... NOTE: NOTE: NOTE: IF YOU PURCHASE SOMETHING ON THE SHIP LIKE JEWELRY WATCHES AND PRICEY ITEMS PLEASE BE AWARE THAT CELEBRITY NOTIFIES U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION OF YOUR PURCHASE!!! DECLARE EVERYTHING AND YOU WILL BE GOOD. Well that's about it for this cruise. Celebrity has gained a couple of new customs. Really impressed the heck out of us. Great cruise! Read Less

We booked the Sensation without reading reviews as we general have not worried about that. After booking I decided to check out details on the book and reviews. Let's just say, the reviews did not make me excited to go and made me worry about how the cruise would go. First off, our experience was the complete opposite of the negative reviews. Yes, the ship is older but the crew was always, always cleaning it. There was never a moment that the ship felt dirty! Way to go crew! Yes, the ship had an older smell to it but older house have a smell too - this is very, very minor! The water did have a smell at times but nothing that ruined our fun. ALL of the crew, ALL, was amazing, friendly, kind!!! Not once did we encounter a rude crew member! Every single one of them were there to help! Plenty of things to do, plenty! Shows were awesome, comedy family show as great! So much to do we didn't get to enjoy everything! Music was on point and great! There were times on the Lido deck that the bars got busy and people were having a little too much fun but we just enjoyed other areas of the ship during that time, no biggie! It is a smaller ship but plenty of space to go to other areas and enjoy!! Because it is a smaller ship you do feel more then the bigger ships, the first day was very rough but this is by no means the ship's fault - it's mother nature and this is not to be held against Carnival. The pool was nice, two hot tubs by the pool and one in the adult only area - only during one day was the pool busy, but hey that is what it is there for. I feel like people are complaining about things that shouldn't even matter. Awesome experience, would book this ship again. The cruise director is amazing and did an awesome job! We are not fantasy people - this cruise was perfect for us. Great for the money! If you want to be whined and dined and want a five star fantasy ship and treatment, then book elsewhere, this ship is for those who want to go on vacation, have not worries, and just want to relax and have a good time because that is just what we did! Thank you Carnival Sensation! Read Less

We took this cruise for the itinerary and had booked it before the onslaught of hurricanes. We only did excursions in St Kitts and St Marteen as we had been to San Juan and Grand Turk several times before. We were pleasantly surprised by the decor, tasteful not gaudy. The common areas were a bit cramped, especially the Punchliner, but the entertainment was excellent. I wish Carnival would segregate the casino on all their ships so smokers were on one side and all machines on the side you have to walk through were non smoking. That way they might be able to control those who insist on breaking the rules. Food was ok, but I do not like the American table menu and hate the fact that there are no tablecloths or even paper placemats. A couple of my favorites, gazpacho and vichyssoise soups were watered down and tasteless. My fallback option, flat iron steak, was tender and cooked to perfection. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to itinerary, timing and price. We went with another couple and booked balcony cabins side by side. Ours was R703. Great location. It was the first time I have ever been that high on a ship and that far aft and we had no problems with extra noise or vibration or anything else. We were right by the elevators but experienced no noise from that. It was such a good location - just one flight of stairs up to Horizon Court and the main pool. Also, easy access to the aft door and right out to the aft pool which was my favorite part of the ship! We did traditional late seating dining. Excellent service and the food was great. Not one complaint. I have been lucky to have a great wait staff on every cruise I have been on. But Rea, the head water for us, was the best ever! She was amazing, so pleasant and efficient, yet took the time to have fun conversations with us about her homeland etc. We saw many shows, they were good, we took part in activities on the ship, which were all fun. I love Princess because we can connect our balconies together with our friends cabins, and the self serve laundry! Read Less

This was our fourth Carnival Cruise and sad to say now that they have made so many changes to how they are run our last. We have sailed on the Sensation, Tropical their smallest ship, the Victory, and lastly this year the Carnival Sunshine. They have completely changed how Carnival ships were run. Gone is our great Midnights buffet with the beautiful ice sculptures. Gone are the great Las Vegas style shows they used to have. Gone are the free food anywhere on the ship. Gone is the fantastic dining room food every night. The Service is still good our room was taken care of by our attendant as it used to be but the rooms seems smaller. I think because they have taken a ship that at one time held 2500 people that now will hold over 3000 passengers. Let me start at the dining room. First we used to have an actual menu every night with a number of food choices. No longer. The only night that the food was great and we had more than two choice's to pick from were the two elegant nights o our 8 day eastern cruise. The other 6 nights you had only two entree's and if it wasn't something you might eat oh well. You could pay the extra 20 dollars an entrée and order lobster or the steak. Or you might even choose to go to the fireside dining room for35 dollars a person and order there. In fact the lido buffet each night at least had choices and better food. What a shame. Our Breakfast was the same almost every morning. So the food if you don't pay now is sub par only. Shame shame Carnival. Not what I expected. Moving onto the shows. Every night we used to have two shows at two different for those of us that were dining. Now they only had two shows the entire cruise and I'm sorry to say they were not what I expected. Almost like they were not professionals at all. And only lasted 35 mins a show pitiful. We did go to a few late night comedy shows. Only one of 3 were really good the other two mostly had a few one liners that I guess you can say made us laugh a few times. I don't know who in the name of god is booking these show people or comedians but they sure as hell can't be paying to much. The funniest and best shows were done by the guests themselves on lip sink night. They at least were funny. We had balcony rooms on the 8th floor. I walked out when we first got in our rooms on our balcony and could not believe to see rust all over the piping above me. I have never seen their ships not completely clean. The windows were even dirty. Our guy did he very best to keep our room clean and even brought me ice every night. But now we no longer get to have the same dining staff every night like we used to so how do you tip your gratuity if you don't even know who the money is going to? The first elegant dining night was our best. I had lobster tails that were fantastic and our waiter even brought both my brother and I two extra tails so I tipped him an extra $20 did I have to no but like I said each night we had someone different. So how can you tip or rate your service? There were 6 of us cruising together. My wife, sister and brother-in-law, and my brother and his wife. We were all disappointed. This was my sisters first and as she said as well her last Carnival Cruise as well. What a crying shame. Now on to the islands we visited. Grand Turk was the first and I will say the smallest but best. The beach is right off the pier and you can lounge with umbrella's for free or pay if you want to get right by the water and the drinks were very reasonable. The shops are also right there as you exit the pier. Puerto Rico forget it yeah we stopped there. Only a few shops are even open right off the ship. AND THEN THERE ARE ROPES BLOCKING BETWEEN THE SHOPS. With huge signs saying you cross at your own risk. Guess where we went? Right back on the ship what a waste of time. I understand they had hurricane damage in September but Carnival should have given us another island choice we could actually go to. Next came St. Kitt. All the excursions that were open which were not many were booked. The shops are a ways from the pier we docked at and had to be bused into. Nothing is cheap let me tell you. Duty and tax free big deal LOL. Last island stop was St. Marteen. the first thing as we dock our Captain announces that there are two large fires burning debris from all the hurricane damaged buildings. And if anyone has breathing trouble you might need to avoid those areas. The smoke was drifting all over the island I have video to show. Most of the excursions here were closed as well due to the damage done. AGAIN CARNIVAL WHY GO HERE. We had a few shops open right off the pier. and only a few excursions were available and most were filled long before we even got there. Can I say anymore? I cannot think of a worst time we could of had. We spent most of our time in the casino but since I'm not a smoker i gagged most of the time from the amount of smoke that seemed to be coming from almost everyone gambling there. with the exception of only a small number of us the casino was so smoke filled it hung in the air where ever you went. Carnival how about some damn ventilation for those of us that like to breath? I guess our next cruise if and when that will be WILL NOT BE CARNIVAL. What a shame. We used to totally enjoy ourselves on these ships. To change so much they have ruined it. Embarkation was what you can expect packed. But went fairly smoothly. Just took time getting on eve though we had a boarding time scheduled. Read Less

This was our first time on the Sunshine, sailing to Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten, myself (56) and hubby (60) in a Cloud 9 balcony room. I really liked the ship itself, hubby thought the layout was weird. We encountered more grumpy crew than ever before on Carnival, not enough to ruin the trip but enough to be noticed. Some nights the food was great, others just okay. Our cabin was always clean and we had turn down every night but we rarely had any contact with our room steward. The shows were okay, much better shows on the Paradise last month. The worst part of the trip was Carnivals total lack of transparency about the destruction of St. Maarten and San Juan. St Maarten looks like a war zone. Ship should not be going or we were owed an update from Carnival about the condition. Read Less

Price, dates and length was perfect. Food was very good......service in the dinning room was superb!! The waiters and bartenders were very freindly and treated you like you were royalty. Emma, the cruise director, was very entertaining and fulfilled her job to a tee to ensure all cruisers were entertained. The ship was clean and well kept to ensure no mess on tables or floors were clutterd with dishes. A music night/disco night with dancing would have been nice. ******Down fall was the lack of chairs*****. TOO MANY saved with towels and personal belongings. Sign posted states no longer than 40 minutes.....sat beside 2 chairs for 4.5 hrs that were not used but yet stuff was left on them. Several were left unattended for up to 3 hrs. This should be enforced. Chairs should not be saved prior to 7 a.m. and the signs posted should be adhered to by ALL staff of the ship. Lots of people walked around looking for seating. the only downfall of this cruise was the lack of chairs on the decks......by 6:30 a.m. all chairs were already covered with towels and personal belongings.......chairs not used for 4 hrs and the rules leaving your chairs for longer than 40 minutes were never enforced by anyone. Chairs should not be saved prior to 7 a.m. daily. This should be made mandatory!!!!!! The embarkment and disembarkment was really good. No time loss and ran smoothly. Read Less
