This was my 3rd cruise with NCL. I decided to take advantage of a last minute deal for a much needed solo break.
Overall, the cruise was in line with my expectations and what I experienced on previous sailings with NCL.
I got a basic inside cabin on the 12th floor. The decor is a bit dated but the cabin was quiet, comfortable and spacious enough for me. The steward Christian was ...
THE FOOD:
The food on this ship was, overall, the best I've seen in 30 years of cruising. Even the Oceanview (buffet) was great. Not every single item was to my liking, but there was always something delicious available to eat. We ate at Blue, Luminae, Eden and Raw on 5, and Oceanview, and every meal I had was ranked from good to great. The crab cake and beef wellington in Eden are the best ...
This was our first Transatlantic, second time on the Apex and over 10th time on Celebrity. The ship is beautiful, huge and was crowded all the time. In that regard, we were so happy that we booked a sky suite. The retreat was our haven on all sea days, and for pre dinner drinks, and afternoon snacks. But for those in a suite, your "butler" with a new title, is now a cabin attendant with a ...
Solo traveler...I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Partially blocked oceanview cabin was a delight...larger than cabins on newer ships. Stewards were awesome as were all staff. I was on Deck 8 midship...perfect location. Spent an overnight in Lisbon before embarkation...loved it. Lisbon is a beautiful hilly city that requires some stamina...but worth the effort.
Embarkation was a breeze. Food was ...
The service, staff, entertainment, food and amenities all amazing.
Menus in four main restaurants were not very varied however food was always good. The Oceanview Cafe selections were outstanding however the cafe was always crowded and there were often lineups for some foods…and of course some folks simply ignored the queue and just barged in!!
The amenities-pools, cafes, bars, sewing ...
Overall we had a great time, first TA and won't be the last.
PROS:
- Newish ship, modern, beautiful common areas and spaces. 4200 passengers, so felt crowded but never had a problem getting a lounge chair by the pool, table at Windjammer or table at main dinning room.
- Crew: probably the best we had in all of our cruises, friendly, attentive and just have to ask once for "special ...
We were on the Silhouette for our first transatlantic cruise. Was wonderful! The ship is beautiful, food in Blu and the buffet was consistently great, and staff were very friendly. After 11 nights, we still felt the food variety was excellent.
Our stateroom attendant was the best! Gym is perfect and has everything you need.
I was surprised to read some of the other reviews because our ...
This was our 6th transatlantic, the 1st on Celebrity with the others on RCCL. It was a more northerly crossing than we are use to so we expected it to be a little rougher and cooler. It met those expectations and more with it being generally cloudy on most sea days.
Entertainment - with these T/A's the cruise lines typically brings in top notch performers and they (like the guests) are ...
We cruised with a large group of 58 people. The 12 day re-positioning cruise left from NY & we flew home from Miami.
I read many reviews about NCL's policy for people with gluten intolerance & felt safe going. I met with an assistant dining room manager & she met with me every night with the menus for the following day. I learned that NCL has a separate kitchen for preparing gluten free foods. ...
Lots of odd things brought this cruise down starting with the rather strange layout of the ship, the change to main dining times with both being brought forward 30 minutes, the very noisy main dining rooms thanks to the DD layout and of course the redirection of the ship due to hurricane Tammy. Boarding at Southampton was efficient as ever, Vigo was wet, I stayed on in Lisbon, the Canary Island ...
