ARTIC TRADEOFF: Operations during COVID vs Norwegian Beauty

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Viking Venus

Operations during the COVID lockdown were more difficult and restrictive for passengers and crew but the 450 plus passengers completed the trip without incidents as far as we could determine. The safety protocols in place restricted passenger movement on ashore excursions keeping passengers in a bubble much like the NBA playoff protocols earlier in 2021. We expected this based on phone calls to ...

New Year Cruise

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Ventura

We booked this cruise pre pandemic and waited 2 years for it. We did not believe it would go ahead until the day before departure as everything was so uncertain. I am so glad we did not move it again as we had a wonderful time. One port was altered due to Germany shutting down but we were very happy with the replacement port of Stavanger, Norway. The other port visited was Zeebrugge where we took ...

Wonderful Christmas and New Year cruise

Review for a Canary Islands Cruise on Bolette

Wanting to celebrate Christmas and New Year away from the doom laden 2021, our plans had to be changed due to the uncertainty of travel to the U.S. A lucky chance took us to this cruise which included the Canary Islands for Christmas and to the fabulous firework display in Madeira for New Year. We have travelled with Fred only once before and found the whole experience comfortable and ...

Amazing scenery, great crew

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Maud

Chosen for the Northern Lights, the cruise became more about the scenery and overall experience on MS Maud. The boat was less than half full due to covid restrictions which no doubt helped as we didn't have to worry about queuing for excursions and received amazing service and support from all the crew. The excursions were well described and organised and mostly we were able to join everything we ...

Nice boat and food but nothing to do, expensive extras and very short stops

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Richard With

Wife wanted to see obscure bits of Norway but not for 20 minutes in the dark when everything closed. Food very good but very small portions - captive audience. Expensive. Default cabin was the very worst - why? Soft drinks and wifi were chargeable extras. Lots of Norway in very small chunks - We started in Kirkenes and went to Trondheim in November 2022. Windows from cabin could ...

Great ship, great staff and great travel

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Nordkapp

We have traveled from Bergen to Trondheim on MS NORDKAPP Hurtigruten's ship. It has been a great experience. We'll repeat with Hurtigruten and if it is possible, with MS NORDKAPP, but this time from Bergen to Kirkenes. After check in, a very good reception on board, and personal wellcome to all passengers. Very good breakfast, lunch and dinner. A spectacular panoramic views in the bar at ...

Almost All Good

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Anthem of the Seas

Chose the cruise for a break as a UK-based holiday that would be relatively reliable and not subject to travel restrictions. In fact, the ship, the main dining room, the crew especially, the ports of call and the entertaintment all exceeded expectations. We had cruised with Royal Caribbean on Freedom class ships before and enjoyed them, but the Anthem was a step up. I am not sure it had a ...

Challenging to book what I wanted

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Nordlys

User Avatar

I sailed on this ship on 11th October but only for four nights between Bergen and Tromso. Booking was the first challenge. Although the Nordlys is part of the Hurtigruten group and used by local people in Norway to travel between small ports up and down the coast, in the UK the website seems intent on only allowing you to book an 11 night sailing (Bergen to North Cape and return). I had to phone ...

Spain

Review for a Spain Cruise on Bolette

Fred Olsen’s Bolette; veranda cabin; mid Oct 21. Dover to Barcelona. Boarding was smooth with a flow test simple & organised. Always plenty to do on a Fred ship though for some reason they always started one or two minutes before the appointed time. The evening entertainment was a bit average. Food was generally good and we often plumped for the pool café (whatever it’s called) for ...
