Quick caveat that while this was my 25th sailing, this was my first (and will be my only) sailing on an MSC ship. It didn't take long for my group and I to notice that MSC caters to the European market, not the American market. This is blatantly apparent when it comes to customer service. MSC has a "it is what is is" mentality when it comes to delivering poor customer experience, which they did quite often during the 18-day transatlantic sailing. FIRST: MSC doesn't keep time well. Disembarkation was later than scheduled on most ports which caused tours to either start hours late or be rushed missing key sights. MSC's response, "you're the first one to complain so..." A refund was denied and I was told that someone will contact me. Nobody did. SECOND: MSC decided it was a good idea to drain all pools in the thermal spa area for several days during their transatlantic tour. I invested $300+ on access specifically for their hot tubs so when I found out that they will be out-of-service for a long period of time I asked for a refund. MSC's response? "take it up with the spa since they are a third-party company." Spa company's response? "take it up with MSC since you bought it online." THIRD: Most employees will not know the answer to your questions and if they don't, they'll guess. If you ask 5 employees the same question you'll get 5 different answers. I was asked to put a card on file when my on-board balance exceeded $300 euros. When I proceeded to put my debit card on file the lowest pre-paid denomination was much higher than I expected to pay. When I asked what will happen with the remaining unused funds I was told that it would get credited back to my debit card. On the last day, as I was disembarking with luggage in hand in NYC the machine made a loud noise and I was told that I owe a balance. When I visited the reception desk I was told that they owed me several hundred dollars and that I'll get it in euros. A refund on my debit card was not feasible despite the information that was provided previously. Now I have hundreds in euros that I'll have to spend 1/3 of it to convert to dollars. I will never sail with MSC again. Read Less

Just returned from cruise through Scandanavia. This cruise only caters for people who are prepared to pay for their overpriced boutiques, restaurants and alcohol. Food, service and entertainment average at best. Groups of people left mid show on more than 1 occasion Drink package mostly useless as they price their drinks outside the cap they allow on the packagre. Instead of you paying the difference they make you pay the cost of the whole drink despite having paid extra for the package Internet is obscenely expensive but you need it to work their app to manage your accounts. They charge credit card despite being paid and you are expected to wait for them to refund it. Shore excursions terrible quality not worth the cost. Limited staff, wait forever for service at bars Pester you to eat at their expensive private restaurants when you walk past, even waiting outside the dining room to hand you pamphlets despite having just eaten. Felt like you were in Asia with Hawkers. Main lounges have limited seating for 3500 passengers to enjoy onboard entertainment It is unfortunate that cruise experiences like this turn people away from ever cruising again MSC Maraviglia. Too big, impersonal, poor service and onboard experiences. Spend your money elsewhere Read Less

Pros = 1) Service at the dinner - Waiter always friendly 2) Service and cleanliness on our Room 3) Pre paid internet was 4gb for 4 devices and it was cheap comparing with other cruises that I´ve made 4) Pre paid digital pictures was very cheap. I got in the end a pen drive with 120 pictures taken during the cruise and it costed 90 euros. During the cruise, they were charging 30 euros for EACH picture 5) Pizza was very good Cons = 1) Overall the bar staff was not trained at all. First night at the Cruise, I ordered a bottle of Champagne, the lady came after 10 minutes with the Bottle saying that it was the first time that she opened a Champagne bottle and tried to close it with the Cork again. 2) The food at the buffet was terrible and always crowded. It was always stressfull getting food, find a table 3) The cruise only offers free Water (when other lines offer Iced Tea, etc). The places to get drinks were dirty and some of them had only Coffe and not hot milk 4) The portion size of the dinner was terrible ... everyone at our table asked always 2-3 main courses because it was impossible to have food enough with only 1 main dish. 5) The shows during the evening at the theater were very poor. Comparing with other cruises that I´ve been, it was by far the worse. I even slept because if was boring. 6) The overall entertainment during the cruise was very bad... other cruises that I´ve been, have a Cruise Director that cheers up the entire ship with lot of enterntainment and parties. At the Preziosa, and I dont even know if we have similar role during the ship. 7) Basic stuff like NUTELLA... it was not offered during the breakfast for my Daugther, but it was available if asked.. so every time i needed to go to the bar and ask for Nutella and the waiter passed me a few nutella hidden like he was giving me drugs. 8) The overall service was so bad that I went to the guest services and asked to remove the service charge. I then paid good service at the dinner and room directly to the waiters. 9) I´ve been in many different Cruise companies before and this was the first that THEY DONT OFFER FREE ICE CREAM. All other have free 24h ice cream. They charge at Preziosa for everything. Worst cruise experience I ever had, and i will never get on a MSC ship again. Read Less

1st time cruising was so looking forward to it, Ship itself is lovely Balcony cabin very nice Staff very nice goldern lobster restaurant very nice ( but small portions ) DOWNSIDE : No celebration party on leaving Southampton. as its just another pick up port for passengers, felt like we sneaked away from all ports. All Excursions are expensive & totally a waste of time. i.e.: stopping in Rotterdam instead of Amsterdam only gave us 3hrs to meet friends took to long on coach & hit traffic mostly on all the excursions. Entertainment was lousy & short, there is nothing to Do most times You have to go through the casino to get to the theatre which is fine But they allow smoking around the casino so you & the children will stink of smoke ( I'm a smoker & don't like this option. The Buffet is below par, we kept away. the juice machine is closed off morning service why give free when you can pay later & later. every shuttle bus you have to pay other cruise lines provide for free. SUM It Up Felt Like a Posh Ferry. will never ever use MSC For future cruising. Read Less

It was a family reunion. Nine of us sailed with N.S. on my strong recommendation. I had good experience with Massdam years back. This time nine of us were so disappointed. And I was the only one to be blamed to take this ship. I was not happy for the entire cruise holiday and now. My brother-in-law said he would not come back to this ship even it is free. 1) Lido Buffet - there was ALWAYS long line-up for food as most of the time there was only ONE server. Those servers only put a little food on the plate and thus made guests to line up again for food. We ate the same type of food for 15 days - just BORING. I remember vividly that one time I sailed with another cruise line on Asia route, the day I was in Thailand I had Thai food, while I was in Vietnam I had Vietnamese food. 2) Entertainment - very weak casts and artist/s usually repeated in two nights in such a tiny stage of the WORLD THEATRE. 3) Cruise Director - I have been cruising for 13 times. Justin had an easy job. He showed up at the WORLD THEATRE only on the 3rd night of the cruise. Through the 14-night cruise Justin only showed up for about 7 times. At one time he was watching the show with his friends and enjoying drinks. When the show was over Justin just left without going to the stage to greet the audience/guests informing what activities for the night, and for next day. I seldom saw him nor heard his announcements about activities on board. Guess he was paid very little, so he did just that little. 4) Sea Days - it was particular boring on sea days. I did not notice any activities on the pool side but only those seniors taking sun bathing. It was dead quiet. There were NO talks about history of the next ports. Read Less

The restaurant staff very professional and well trained. Out cabine room was superficial clean every day lots of dust and the bedsheets not changed for the entire week. The excursion staff lack of knowledge and very rude not happy to offer any excursions in English unless is just downtown were we can go by ourselves. We we looking forward to have a nice hiking and engage with nature but NOT POSSIBLE NOT POSSIBLE. When we book the excursion there was nowhere mentioned that they don’t have a English guide available not the necessary number of people needed so the tour can be offer. The excursion assistant manager poor poor quality of service and very disrespectful. I wasn’t expected to have such a unprofessional staff. They absolutely were so rude that I will never try a cruise with this company and I will let everyone know about my terrible experience on the ship. It almost felt that staff were angry when speaking to them in English. They don’t have the urge to offer quality service as you seen been advertised. Read Less

"15-day cruise with one day at sea and 14 days at ports in 14 different countries bordering the Baltic Sea" was the reason we selected this cruise during mid August through early September of 2019. NCL chooses to not pay the port fees for a convenient berth or mooring. Instead, at each of these 14 ports, the Norwegian Spirit pays the least amount of fee and in turn the Norwegian Spirit moors at a distant berth at each port. Under these circumstances, passengers who do not pay an exhoribant fee for a NCL shore excursion are stuck at the port berth. Like other passengers, we had to hire a local taxi or pay for a shuttle bus in order to get to a train station to then be transported to a nearby destination. At several ports, to get to the advertised destination we had to be very resourceful in figuring out combinations of transportation to take us to the advertised destination for that day. We used combinations of local shuttle bus, taxis, trains, trams and walking. The featured entertaining each evening in the theatre varied considering in quality. Four of the evening shows were excellent (e.g,, the four "Elements" was the best!). Unfortunately, most of the shows were of very poor quality. NCL found cheap "entertainers" for most shows and so we just skipped most evenings in the theatre. The inside cabin was extremely small and uncomfortable (think "prison cell"). Read Less

NCL was excellent and I would use them again. Even though 4600 passengers, experienced staff moves folks around w efficiency and great organization. Shore excursion tickets are clearly marked with time and place to meet each morning. Embark and disembark ran very smoothly. Busses are ready, clean, clearly marked, excellent drivers. Shore excursions many and varied for different levels of activity: we had four excellent local guides, 2 poor ones. There is much to do on board, so even days at sea are fun and filled. Water facilities are very good, esp for kids. Weather in August was chilly, so small pool and water slides were not used much. I was a bit annoyed that teens are in hot tubs all the time, making it hard for an adult to get a space. Food good, restaurant choices many and varied. Sometimes had to wait for a table even though we had reservations. Garden Café (largest buffet on 15th floor) is very busy and a little chaotic … many food choices, but hard to find a table. Would be good to have a number or color coding so that location of a table, family or friend would not be so hard. Ship's condition up to date, clean. Entertainment excellent. Internet connection awful. Cabins are nice size and well maintained. I am impressed. Read Less

Theis ship is horrible, the service is so bad there is no excuse for it. It takes ages for a waiter to come to you for drinks in the main buffet even tho you have a bell for colling them, one time the waiter came to the table canceled the call and just walked away without takeing our order, when we asked him why he did that he came with such a dumb excuse, and thats is all the staff have for you is excuses. When you want to go to shore there are harbors with only steps as gang walks so disabled people cant disimbark, on the ports that disabled people can disimbark you will go thru hell when you imbark, first of all they will make sure that you know that they doing the disable people a big favor if they let 1 person to acompany the disable thru security, we had 1 person with an oxigen mask on her and security made her stand in line for 10 mins for security, they made me choose betwin my disabled father and my child ( who didnt speak english) so i had no choice but to wait for my child, so my father had to wait for me and my child and they put him near a trashcan so god forbid he will interfere the other guests, when we whent to complain about it, the costomer service made me feel like I was the one to blame, he didnt wrote my complain right and ofcourse the complaint was nulled with the excuse that you cant expect them to let 3 people cut the securety line (and I remind you 1 person is disabled and one is a child) and leting the other guest wait. The dishes in the buffet was dirty we got glasses with lipstick marks on them, plates with pasta still on it. On other ships at the evenibg of your first imbarkation the person in charge of cleaning your room comes and introduce him/her self to you and tells you that every thing you needs room wise to come to him/her, on this ship we saw him only on the last night of the cruise. The one bright light on the ship is the food, it was tasty and good and you had a large choice of dishes to choose from in the buffet, and every day was diffrent dishes, too bad you couldn't had plates to put those delicious dishes. We took an excurtion in kiel and asked the woman who booked us the excurtion if it takes us to see the city itself including the city center because they had 1 tour only for the harbor and the tour we took, at the end both of the excurtions was only for the harbor and we didnt saw the city at all. Pass these ship there are other ship lines that are much better with the same prices as this one. Read Less

Minimum bets etc. Didn't see our cabin boy for almost all the week just say 1 and 9. Food is quite good esp the buffet but it's a real fight. Too many people. Drinks god. Our travel agent in good faith helped us decide on the subject cruise. The decision was driven largely by the ports of call, and a generally good experience expressed by other clients regarding Princess. We are not seasoned cruisers but we travel extensively with bookings we do on our own. We were on a cruise with Royal Caribbean many years ago and two years ago with Celebrity. It was the positive experience we had on the Celebrity cruise that encouraged us to book this cruise with your line. It was a very disappointing experience. The excursions were badly designed with lots of time wasted needlessly for the short time in each port. Some operators were good but one chose to make very inappropriate comments. The food was fine but there was no attempt to serve any dishes from the region. One of the entertainers chose to make jokes about people with mental health issues. This is not acceptable in any context. Unlike some other ships there is no place to sit quietly beside a pool and read a book - the noise from the film was overpowering even at the "quiet pool" area. Overall this was very bad value in comparison with Celebrity. Read Less

1. Room 8040 was terrible we keep hearing super loud thumping sounds from somewhere, my four year old who always sleeps like a baby woke up so many times and said it’s just too noisy 2. Food service was terrible, they ask you how you want the meat cooked but it’s never cooked to our preference and most things are cold when they reach us. We weren’t very happy that there were many times when we were hungry but there wasn’t any food available to us other than soggy fries and pizza that tasted like plastic. The dining rotations were so bad by day 3 we wanted to skip it and just go to the buffet but only to realize there is no dinner buffet! Desserts were unbearable! Breakfast buffet was so 1980’s. No gluten free options and it’s just a bunch of flour and sugary foods but are not even considered real food. We could choose either cheap waffle pancake or donut, with lots of sugary dressings, or we go for boxed cereal that aren’t even real food but synthesized. The butter wasn't even real butter it was margarine! People who care about their bodies and health and watch what they eat don’t eat these packaged processed foods. My daughters are gluten/corn/soy sensitive, they ended up having no appetite for breakfast. I am not sure about you but from where I live everyone is aware that eating like that causes obesity and diabetes. But I don’t mind eating that stuff if it’s good but it wasn’t even good! 3. Most of us were so seasick we couldn’t really enjoy it, and I have never been seasick at all on any cruise ship, not to mention one time I was on a cruise when I was in between first and second trimester. But this time I felt so sick I was lying down one time for 36 hours straight and one of the kids threw up right in the middle of the show that’s how bad the ship was moving and swaying. 4. The Club House was terrible, they just hand my 4&6 year olds iPads! For the money we pay we would think the people there would have been giving them some more interesting things to do but our kids come back and say they are bored because they just get an iPad which my 4 year old never got any instruction and isn’t even fluent in English, so she had no idea what she was doing and was utterly bored! 5. The UK customs clearance was unbelievable, we were in line for almost two hours only to have to give up because we didn’t want to miss the Lion King premier and then had to go back in the line again after the movie! That’s just really poor coordination, we wasted so much time and it’s quite obvious that people were pissed too. They even asked us if we had any intentions to work in the UK! As if anyone would pay 17000 USD just to sneak in and find illegal work? 6. Laundry was so frustrating when half of the machines would always be broken at any time! So the functional machines were scarce and people ended up having to bite or fight each other to use them. It just reminded me of my college dorms! And people were taking my stuff out of dryer even before I got the message from Disney Cruise app! I had semi dry clothing lying all over when I got there a few minutes before my dryer time is up! 7. When we got to Dover, the shuttle bus to Dover train station actually cost 10 USD per person including our small children, that’s 40 USD in total while local taxi which we ended up taking only costs 10 pounds! 8. For all the coffee at our dining rotations, it actually costs money! For a coffee to go with the dessert after our meal, it costs 2-3 dollars I think that’s just too obvious Disney is trying to charge for whatever they could. We paid 17000 USD for 7 days and we couldn’t get a coffee to go with our dessert? 9. The Disney Cruise wasn’t even very Disney, I thought it would give us the feeling when we walk into Disney Orlando but it was nowhere near. Other than the shows and occasional characters posing for photographs (which again costs money), nothing was Disney! No Disney Music, no Disney decor, no Disney colors, not even the famous Disney parade....which we actually had even at non Disney Cruise Ship one time, the Oasis. For 17000 USD I think we definitely have many other options. Read Less

To begin with this review, the cruise with the Silver Wind was fabulous as always. Food was great and the service could not be better. The ship need a renovation, but that happens nex year. Dining at eveningtime we prefer The Restaurant. Meals are very good and the service also. At lunch we prefer La Terrazza outside. It's so nice to sit there with a nice view. In St Peters Port the weather was the best, so nice then to have lunch outside. Service in La Terrazza exellent! Entertainmaint was also very nice, we liked the performance of the singers. Butler en housekeeping as always, very good service! Room was very clean. You may know, me and my partner sailed more then 400 days with Silversea. Why did a rated this cruise one ball? That's because of the price. I booked suite 439 (Vista) and pay including 10% off, because more then 250 days, and 5% on board booking Euro 2.254,- You may know, the last half year before this cruise, start the price was going up to Euro 4.000,- per guest excluding flight, transfer. In the Netherlands is a website for crew members for airlines workers and touroperator workers. They can booked a lot of Silversea cruises for VERY MUCH LOWER prices. There was a couple on board they had in the past worked by KLM and booked this cruise for Euro 1.700,- for a vista suite. Three days before boarding they get a message from the operator that they got an upgrading to suite 741, yes a Medallion suite. Almost three times bigger then a Vista suite. Also including free laundry. Is this normal? Of course not!!! Possible you know that pilots working with KLM had a year income to Euro 275.000,- The may also booking this cruise for this price. I call this larceny! Okay some people get discount, but that upgrading is far from right. Ans this was not for the first time. Last march this couple did a 13 day cruise with the Silver Muse from Singapore to Hong Kong. Price for a Vista Suite USD 1.300,- Once they came on board they get an upgrading to a veranda suite. First i was interested to do a cruise with the Silver Shadow from Rome to Venice in 11 days starting at september 22 this year. Price for a Vista Suite on the Silversea website Euro 7.700,- per guest. Price on www.insidertravel Euro 2.600,- for a Vista, per guest! NO WAY that we booked this cruise. Read Less

Kids programs are super boring - this is the first time my kids refused to go to the kids center and kept repeating how boring everything is. There are only 2 pools on the main deck!! - one indoor and one outdoor, and both are tiny so they are incredibly crowded at all times. Service across the ship is below mediocre. Norwegian Spirit is the oldest ship they have. Its small and boring at day sea. The only time I would sail with them if the Itinerary not to be missed and just enjoy destination and a book to read. And this is why: This isn't our first cruise with Norwegian Spirit. Five years ago we sailed with Norwegian Spirit and it was a fantastic holiday. Staff were friendly, quality of food was excellent and filled with entertainment. Unfortunately this time the quality of food was very poor (sea food option such as lobster, prawn was limited) no variety of tastes. Staff seems unhappy it must be something to do with the management leadership. Crew are short tempered and snaps quickly. (weren't like that in the past) Entertainment wasn't enough!! No activities on board.. one day they said their is a white party and when we went up it was created only to take pictures!! At sea days we were actually bored! Not much music around and outdoor is rainy with nothing to do indoor! the entertainment director is unfriendly, loud and do not want to listen she just raise her voice over you!! Don't think she is in the right place. Theatre shows are not that good apart from one or two. Shows are repetitive as for example if a singer performed one day - than will stay on ship and perform some other time later on the cruise (way of saving money) For gym their was only one guy who is doing all the sessions stretching, yoga etc therefore he was soo tiered that he didn’t take his shoes off during yoga session!! Nothing on this ship is for free! Most activities you need to pay for Some of the ports we docked in such as Amsterdam was a disaster! no taxies nor trains. Buses every hour and it arrives full. We visited Amsterdam on a previous cruise and we docked in a different port which was much better. The second destination of norway also did not have good transportation!! The shore excursion hours are very short! They are unavailable when we need them. I.e. 1-2 hours after docking. We paid 320 dollars for poor and expensive internet connection. Very slow. itinerary route should be planned better in which Sunday we stay at sea rather than arriving on a sleepy port. Beds are uncomfortable for couples - its two twin bed joined in which the edge of each bed is sharp in your back. TV in rooms are soo old ( we have never seen worse than this) Holland American cruise line would provide movies for free to watch in your rooms, plus channels, plus couple of episodes of well known tv shows. Port of calls were worth it . Iceland is just a woow. Which why we booked this holiday. Norway is expensive- no taxis (only four available throughout the day) transportation is difficult so i advise you to book a shore excursion to make use of the day otherwise its going to be a loss ( we couldn't find hope on hop off - as its every hour and arrives full. No taxies for private tour) don't make the mistake and get off on your own unless you just want to sit in a cafe and have lunch in the small village. We loved Ireland too - we took a private taxi for the whole day and paid a 100 euros each. That way you will get to know the city more especially Belfast as their is a political history that you will only know the details from Irish people themselves. They are friendly and helpful. ( don't forget to visit the wall of separation). Belgium was nice too but nothing much other than chocolate- you can enjoy it on your own via taxi (50 euro each way for all passengers) not more than that. The best department on board was The Cafe. They are excellent. The worst was the entertainment director Lorena. Will never cruise with Norwegian Spirit again or recommend it to anyone. Read Less

I decided to cruise with Costa because they offer affordable trips to Scandinavia. Unfortunately, this was by far the worst cruise I have ever been on. The ship itself was in pretty good condition. The inside felt cheap but comfortable. The ship's layout was fairly confusing and they were constantly ripping up carpet all over due to a bad smell. The inside cabin's are small but comfortable, and the balcony cabins are quite a bit larger with a nice view. As far as dining is concerned, don't expect much out of any meal except for seated dinners, which were mediocre at best. The buffet dining experience was miserable because of overcrowding and disgusting food. The "snack bar" consisted of sad looking frozen hot dogs and hamburgers. The pizza was pretty good (when it was free). The worst part about the dining situation on the Costa Magica was how much extra money you had to spend to have a good experience. Water is the only beverage included in a regular ticket besides the four juice options at breakfast. Charging extra money for alcohol is understandable, but only offering water for a 1500 E ticket is ridiculous. Oh, and don't expect a "late night snack" unless you want to fork over another 15 E after the buffet is closed. The first few nights of on-board shows were some of the saddest I have ever seen. The shows at the end of the week were enjoyable, but not enough to make up for the nightmarish first three nights. The service was consistently poor. Do not expect to be greeted as a guest, but rather as an annoyance. The waiters were not attentive, the service staff was rude, and the security staff have stares that make you want to be on a different planet. The only good service was the maid service. Read Less

I would just concur with the poster who wrote "Marginal and Loud" as their headline. If you like really big, really loud, really overcrowded, and really under-serviced ships, then this ones for you. Otherwise I would run and "Getaway" as fast as you can. The ports were great though. The room attendants were friendly and spot on, so I will give kudos where due. The Starbucks was great. The sushi restaurant was not half bad, and the steak place was downright good. The rest, well...just mediocre to bad. The wait times for tables, the feeding troughes at the buffet (literally not to be able to find a table at the buffet and having to eat outside where its 50 degrees is unacceptable for any ship), the nickel and dime fees for everything, the cacophony of noise in the main sections of the ship. I waited 3 days for them to bring me a case of water I purchased the minute I got there, which I'm pretty sure is the same water that comes out of the tap but that's besides the point. At some point at day 2 I had to buy liters of water at the bars because I didn't know if I was ever going to get it. Water, you know, it's kind of important to some people. I recommend buying the bar water btw and not the case water, the bar water is actual good quality bottled water, not their crappy filtered water. I have become used to smaller ships after many years of cruising and don't like crowds, so this just wasn't the ship for me. I chose this ship because we were traveling with 4 teens and I wanted them to have more activities like the ropes course and slides etc. But with 5K people and very limited hours that these facilities were open, no one used them from my group anyway. The only saving grace for my group was the Haven which is worth the money if purchased on day 1. It's the only area of relative quiet and the pools and saunas are nice. All in all this felt like a Carnival ship sailing in the Baltic. So if you like Carnival, you'll like the Getaway. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the great port cities it offered, however the cruise was full of rude kids who bully and harass guests, poor food quality. And rude staff. Every floor was plagued with ding dong dash games, we had a hard time getting sleep, the adult only areas are full of kids, and the bars are all understaffed to reduce the amount of drinks you can get with unlimited package. 6 Hottubs on the whole boat. Only 3 of them were hot, the rest had broken heaters and operated at room temp. Some of the excursions are scams, barge you 110$ for a ride to the city center. Restaurants were very poor quality even the paid, if you are considering this cruise, do it! Just not with Norwegian! Viking, carnival, royal, would all be much better choices. Also be prepared for lack luster service. We paid about $6000 to go on this cruise and the food was rated like a cheap 1980s Buffett. Yuck Read Less

We are long time Seabourn cruisers recently off a 16 day cruise on Quest. Last year on an 18 day trip on Ovation we noticed many changes, not for the good. This trip, it’s clear the product has sunk far below what it once was. 1. Dinner Service in the Restaurant/Colonnade. Three dinners where we casually appeared between 7:30 and 8:30. Result: At least a half hour between courses. Water and wine filled once and never again. This situation was a topic of discussion around the ship and some had figured out that if you go right when they open, you will have decent service. So for all the next dinners we raced to get in line before 7 so that we could have a decent dinner. Many times the line at 6:50 snaked to the back of the ship. 2. Service in the Observation Bar. This was a cold trip so the Sky Bar and Patio Bar were useless. The Observation Bar was the only bar open before 6:30 P.M. and since we had to be in line before 7 P.M. to get a decent dinner, you had to be in the Observation Bar for a pre-dinner drink. It was packed. People would get there at 5:30 and put clothing on seats. At 6:15 there would be massive groups circling for a seat. And getting a refill or second drink - forget it. We, and many others, asked for the Club to open early. It never did. So now if you wanted to be at the Observation Bar you had to rush to get up there by 5:30/5:45 or you weren’t getting in. Now we are rushing to get a drink and rushing to get dinner 3. Service in Housekeeping. Hand towels missing, called Guest Services, called Housekeeping, three days later hand towels. Same with bath towels and a bath mat on different occasions. One night came back from a show, took a shower and did not notice until exiting the shower – no bath towels. Loved drying my long hair with a hand towel. They have taken away bottled water in the room and now have a jug. But that only works when you have glasses which we had only twice. 4. I could go on including waiting for tables at breakfast because there were no clean ones. The major topic everywhere in the ship was complaints and horror stories about dinners and shore excursions and such. That old thing about “have dinner when you want with whom you want” is a joke. Our whole schedule was about getting to the Bar and one of the Restaurants when they opened so we could get a seat. Ugly. They have removed the good champagne and replaced it with a very poor version. The Patio Grill buffet at lunch is half what it was. The great cranberry nut cookies they used to have on all ships are no more because “cranberries are too expensive”. This is not a luxury experience anymore. 5. We spoke to many staff about what had happened and the answer was they have gone from the former ratio of 2 guests to one staff to three guests to one staff (150 crew on Quest versus the former 225). It shows. I can’t imagine what would get us, long time Seabourn cruisers, back on board. Sorry to see Seabourn become what they have become. Read Less

My wife and I chose this Viking’s “14 Day Into the Midnight Sun” trip specifically because it had port stops in the Orkney and Shetland Islands and also crossed the Arctic Circle. We also chose Viking due to their reputation and positive reviews we had read. Unfortunately our trust was misplaced and we will definitely not be using this cruise line again. First, the positives: airport arrival and embarkation were amazingly efficient and easy, the ship is beautiful throughout with spacious well-appointed suites, the food was excellent, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the rest of this review is less than stellar. The first problems we encountered were relatively minor: our luggage took over 7 hours to get to our stateroom, quite a bit longer than what we’d normally expect. Second, the remote control to our TV stopped working late at night and I had to get dressed and walk down to the help desk to retrieve a new one since I was cut off twice when I attempted to reach them by phone. These little irritations were a foretaste of what was to come later. Less than one day out of Greenwich the Jupiter lost an engine and had to return to the industrial port of Tilbury for repairs. The lost time subsequently led to cancellation of port visits to the Shetlands and Orkneys as well as reduced time at Edinburgh and Honningsvag. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed since visiting these destinations was a major goal of our trip. After the March incident involving the Viking Sky I felt that Viking would have ensured the mechanical integrity of the Sky’s sister ships, including the Jupiter. In a memo Viking assured us that we would be contacted regarding compensation after the trip was complete and that in the meantime we would receive a $250 per person non-refundable credit for shipboard purchases. However, instead of offering us a partial refund Viking would only offer a 20% discount on a future booking made within a year. According to one of Viking’s customer relations representatives this was justified on the basis that Viking wanted us to travel with them again in order to show us that they can deliver on a quality product. She offered no explanation when we challenged her as to why we would spend more money on a second cruise when our expectations on the first one had not been met. I certainly understand that missing ports due to ‘acts of God’ such as bad weather are beyond control and that’s a risk the customer assumes. However, mechanical problems should be the responsibility of the cruise line, especially when sister ships recently experienced such problems. It baffles me as to why some reasonable monetary compensation could not be provided since this has been the practice on other cruise lines. Suffice it to say that this was our first and will be our last cruise with Viking. Read Less

I have sailed on Princess twice, and I had a wonderful experience. My last Princess cruise was about 10 years ago. I have wanted to cruise again, but I have been waiting for my son to get a little older. Now that he is 7 years old, I felt it was the right time to cruise. I only looked in to Princess because of my past experience. And honestly, I regret not looking into other cruise options. Last week we sailed to and from London and Oslo on a 7 day cruise. I really wish I could say that I had a great time, but it was a subpar experience. My two issues were food and the amount of time you actually spend in a town/city. The food was below average especially when you factor in the amount of money you are spending. Honestly, you are on the ship about 80% of the time. The food must be good whether it is a la cart dining or buffet. I remember when Princess offered twin lobsters during dinner at the international dining hall. Now they want you to pay extra for good food. In the past, the buffet had smoked salmon everyday for breakfast. On this cruise, they offered it on the last day. I feel like they offered at the end of our trip so we would only remember the last dish. Last, we ate a 3 course prefix meal at Sabatinis. You have to pay a premium to eat there, but the food was great. However, in the past Sabatinis offered an 11 course meal. The food offering is declining. In regard to my comment about the time spent in a town/city, well it only represents 5 hours per port. Most of the excursion start mid-morning, and you are back on the ship by 3pm. We have no time to explore, eat, or shop. In conclusion, if you are on the ship most of the time, the food better be amazing or you are really there for the entertainment like bingo, art auction, town lectures, etc which you can do at your local city. If you like to cruise, and don't care about food quality, go on Princess. Read Less

Had sailed last October on their Pride of America, to Hawaii. Worst Cruise ever! So, we thought. We vowed to never sail NCL ever again... yet, a few months later, my friend booked a Cruise to the Baltic Sea with NCL... At first, one always wants to be fair, and believe that "it will be better"... No! If they fail so badly to meet your expectations, it is "their way", "their pattern / mentality". So, we flew from LAX, CA all the way to Copenhagen, Denmark to catch this NCL Cruise. Plane cost $2,422.98 Cruise cost $4,700.14 We had pre-paid all this way prior to the Cruise, and i had pre-paid the Credit card Co. by $500.00 ( max allowed to be pre-paid). Well, all hell broke loose constantly, and to the very end. We were offered IN WRITING, a FREE Beverage Package. I phoned numerous times to inquire if there was any gimmick to that, or if it was totally free. Was told No gimmick, totally free. Well, here is the SCAM: The FREE beverage Package cost $356.40. It is FRAUD to pretend that something is FREE, and to charge on a credit card $356.40. So, I'll have to report this to the credit Card Company. Our Cruise was paid a month or 2 prior to departure. 3 days before disembarking, a bill was left by our cabin. Our card had been charged $30.00 per day to make the 1 bed. A GRATUITY, a TIP...... is at our discretion to pay if and how much, to whom... This obligatory overcharge without telling us ahead, is thievery. $30.00 per day to barely clean a small cabin, is by far, an overcharge............. Paying for the Cruise, pays for the room already, and the food, etc. This must be stopped. Everyone should fight this. .... To pick you up at the Airport is $25.00 per person. The wait was 2 hours, and going through the "Check-in" was an other 2 hours, and then, we were rushed to the Theater to listen to a life jacket demonstration, and this took a good 1- 1/2 hours, or so. They repeated in 4 languages, over and over again. It was ridiculous, very badly put together. The meals were not very good at all. The attitude was "bad", "superior"........... The shows were mostly bad. Next to no activities. NCL is all about money, not the Guests. They sell anything... and everything has a scam to it. We attended a sale marked lowest prices guaranteed. NOTHING was on sale, and a shawl on shore ( at Immigration) was $28.00 and on the ship was $75.00. So, lowest price is FALSE ADVERTISING. We bought 2 bottles of Vodka for gifts. They packaged it for travel in their NCL box, which we could only pick up the day before disembarkation. Those broke in transit. They were not packaged securely and the luggage was handled by NCL. We were handed a suitcase filled with wet clothes and broken glass. I bought 2 music boxes $35.00 each, and paid $70.00, but, I have two charges of $70.00. Bought batteries, which did not work, and attempted to return / exchange... That was a Twilight Zone. They DO NOT care at all and do not stand by the Guests. It is all very unethical, unprofessional, illogical, UNFAIR. Why are shows bad? The microphone is too high. You hear extremely loud yelling, screaming, noises. That is one aspect. The same performances are shown on an other night, leaving nothing for you if you already saw this... So, not a new show nightly, and shows not always good. Reservations............. What a Twilight Zone Nightmare on that............ A Bar requires a Reservation, so does a Restaurant, so does a Show. They say No when you phone... but, to get in......... is SOOOOOO problematic. Then, this Circus Show cost EXTRA. Never could go to the "Noodle Bar" Restaurant. I could see lots of empty tables, but, they were saying that they were full....... The Miniature Golf was closed for repair. Many bathrooms were closed for repairs. Still Daylight at 10 at night... and again by 2 am................ Much rain. FREEZING COLD. Never used the pool or hot tub... Simply too cold. At our age, we don't climb walls. Bingo is overpriced. One "Lecture" was "How to reduce belly fat forever?" So, we attended.... WASTE of time. It is a come-on to get you to sign up for a package $199.00............... When I tried to dispute the charges: They were leaving bills daily on our door, and the phone was blinking to come down ans see them... So, I went DAILY. Their attitude was that I HAD to pay whatever they wanted me to pay even if it was not due. I asked to speak to the Supervisor and was refused this. Olga and her Supervisor ( Not the higher person) were treating us as inconsequential, and we were waved away. When I insisted that I wanted to speak to a higher person, a Captain......... the Security Guard was called. I thought that he told them to remove the fake charges... The next day, on the way out, my friend, the Tour Bus, everyone was waiting for me while I was detained and obligated to pay $100.00 CASH. They refused to print a bill or let me pay with a Credit Card. The man was laughing, telling me to go to the 6th Floor and wait in line.......... So, this is Abuse, fraud, Extortion. kept against my will, obligated to pay what is not owed, laughed at, and our trip ruined. I was shaking for a long time after, because I was so stressed and upset. We both were. Last day, the elevator button would not stop on the 4th floor, and nothing was marked... We had to use the stairs with bad knees. Later I was told that one side worked... but, nothing was marked............ WHY repeat all this Online? People need to be warned. If you do not fight, this perpetuates itself, and escalates as it goes. Is it costly to eat ashore, or at the Airport? Sweden: Tiny little nothing place, 2 coffees and 2 tiny pastries ( not very good either): $18.00 Copenhagen, Denmark Airport: )'Leary's 1 SMALL beer $9.17 O Leary's: 1 small water, 1 small Coke, 2 tiny very bad fish and chips (very tiny portions of oily, badly cooked, still raw batter on 2 small fish pieces, bad fries) $59.86 ????????????????????? HOW can this be? Souvenirs anywhere? In California, one can purchase an oven mitt for $1.00 at any Dollar Tree Store, or 99 cents Store. In any of the Norwegian places... $16. to $21.00 for 1 oven mitt. A cap is a good $16.00 + Excursions: Cobblestone streets. Nice to see, but, difficult to walk. Overpriced Excursions. MUCH walking. If you are an Elderly person, someone with arthritis, you will have much difficulty... Chairs do not roll well on grass, or cobblestones, and much is steps... A tour in a boat, in the cold freezing rain... is difficult to enjoy. Bathrooms: $1.00 Euro per person. The Subway is Russia, very clean, beautifully decorated, very well organized. Much walking, steps, escalators. Not for wheelchairs and slow persons. We almost fell. Older persons must be seated, or it is unsafe. Many warnings of Pick Pockets......................... Our Bank Card Companies had said NOT to bring Euros. This is a bit wrong. Bathrooms do not take Credit Cards. You need Euros. Some Places, and Street Merchants do not take Credit Cards. If you can hand a NO INTERNATIONAL Fee Card, that is the best way to pay, but, there are Exchange Currency Booths here and there ( some at Airports). We should have brought $50 Euros, but, had relied on our Credit Cards. Credit Cards: Make sure to use NO INTERNATIONAL Fees Credit Cards. How were we dressed? You need long pants, no sandals, warm socks, sneakers for a lot of walking, long sleeve flannel shirts, sweaters, or light jackets. I brought a backpack and we kept our light jackets in them when not used. Bring a rain poncho in your backpack. Too windy for umbrellas. The 99 cents Store sells rhinestone room key card holders to put your room card key around your neck. On the ships, the cost is multiplied 6 to 10 times............. I said it before, and foolishly expected better.... NCL was not a good Cruise Line the first time, and was NOT the 2nd time either. Hardly any activities for persons 70- 80. Lots of long lines, walking, being pushed. Disappointed. Bored. The hour changes: NCL does not have clocks in the rooms. We brought a travel clock. "Jet Lag" The time changes numerous times. It takes 2 days from LAX to Copenhagen and again, 2 days back. Rather than waiting 10-12 hours at the Airport, we had reserved Connect Hotel in Arlanda Sweden $59.07 We had requested Confirmation via e-mail, and had printed everything. They have a Shuttle and will pick you up and bring you back the next day ( Shuttle is every 30 minutes. They have their own Shuttle, marked Connect Hotel), you will have a nice room, with TV, bathroom, dryer, and you'll get a great, copious breakfast. Staff was pleasant, courteous, helpful, cheerful. They have a Chain. Look them up. ( Yes, the Staff also spoke English.) Bottom line, we had an OK, so-so, overpriced, tiring trip. Too much money for what it was. We will NEVER Cruise NCL ever again. They ruined out vacation again. Can't forgive them. This is Abuse, Thievery, Disrespect, FRAUD. We have a Cruise this October 2019 with Carnival. We have sailed that Ship and Destinations prior, but, it is for a Class Reunion... so we are attending ... We have sailed with Carnival many times. I am now informed of costs rising again? NCL told us that Carnival no longer folds towels like animals...So, I'll have to see for myself... Cutting out the nice little fancy things... is never a good idea. Why do we Cruise and spend so much money... if there is nothing nice, nothing to do, nothing included? Overcharging people.......leads to Guests staying home the next time. NCL advertised FREE beverage package, GIVEN to us FREE. $356.40 is FRAUD. Adding $30.00 per day, after the cruise is fully paid, is FRAUD. A tip is never mandatory. That is a modern, pretentious, unfair expense. A tip is solely at the discretion of the people to do, not do, and decide how much. Read Less

We chose this cruise to circumnavigate the British Isles and found nothing but dissapointment. We have recently returned from a cruise around the British Isles on MSC Orchestra (5th June Hamburg). If MSC gave us free tickets to cruise again we wouldn't accept them. Our first encounter was at embarkation with queue after queue checking the same thing over and over followed by sit-down lunch (deck5 ) where we were refused 2 glasses of water and both the waiter and maitre de argued with us over our need to pay around EUR1 per glass to get tap water! This continued at the dinner table also. Secondly, our anticipation of having a great time was greatly diminished when the cabin staff told us we would not be provided with a box of tissues and we had to use toilet paper in their place! Thirdly, we booked a Fantastica Balcony Stateroom at the rear of the ship (smaller than most others) and expected a 5 star room - the bathroom shower has plastic curtains! No facial tissues and one roll of toilet paper - enough said. On review there are more than 21 items (including the cheap rate shows) that are far less quality, service and level of acceptability in comparison to other cruise ships of the same standard. MSC = more sur charges. All up you would be better advised to choose another cruise company and experience a level of professionality you deserve on a cruise. FYI - we have cruised over 15 times with other companies - all balcony suites, no complaints - all inclusive. Read Less
