This cruise was very cheap, but it was still unnecessarily disappointing. Embarkation: this was fast, but only because it was dangerous. Many people were allowed to walk onto the ship without having their hand luggage checked - they could have taken anything on board: weapons, drugs, good manners. The ship: very austere and more like a ferry. Very few comfortable chairs or quiet areas. Some areas - the self-service restaurant, for example - were not kept clean. Dining: very disappointing. The main dining room was unattractive and the food was no more than adequate. The lunch was often perfunctory. The self-service was too small for the many who wanted to avoid the restaurant, and served cheap, unattractive food. In the end, I gave up and used the additional charge restaurants. Both were jolly good, but it felt odd, paying extra for a pleasant experience which should have been the norm. Entertainment: excellent if you enjoyed magic; poor if you did not. There were no lectures. Activities: derisory, and mostly unhosted because, presumably, there were not enough staff members to man them. Little was organised for children. Conseqently, when the weather was poor, they became noisily obvious. Service: friendly. However, there were simply not enough staff members. The library was a disgrace, and had often to be opened by the entertainments manager because others forgot to do their job. Areas around the ship were spoilt by deposited cups and plates which were not cleared away for long periods of time. Ports: excellent. Though only 6 hours in Stockholm was very little. Shore excursions: those in St Petersburg were excellently led and good value. But, 1 The introductory talks were awful; there were often simply members of staff reading off sheets and often knowing nothing about what they were reading out. 2 There were never maps of the ports available on the ship Disembarkation: very poor. Guests had to vacate their cabins by 0700, even though it was known that none could leave the ship until 0900. Consequently, many guests had to stand for two hours. An experience not to be repeated. Two cruises back to back were chosen for the itinerary and no other line seemed to cover the majority of our bucket list in the Baltic and Norway Fjords. The cruise did meet our itinerary expectations and the weather was on the whole very conducive to touring each area. The ship was as we expected and sadly no better than we expected. Cunard has a strong positive and that is the staff on board Queen Victoria. The staff focus on customer service has definitely improved since our Queen Elizabeth 35 days last year. Without the wonderful staff the Cunard experience would be unbearable. The food reminded many of school dinners. So that means stoggy and greasy and bland. The menu was only a 2 week cycle. So for our second cruise we knew exactly what was on each night. Last year on Elizabeth the menu was more interesting and tasty and the cycle was much greater. The on board evening entertainment was more suited to the local bowlo. The cruise director spent the majority of her time chatting to her family who happened to be on board. Daytime activities were fine if you are in to Bingo. Might as well have been a Resident in a Nursing Home. Definitely not to a standard that one expected from Cunard. Room service menu was disgraceful and now there is a charge if you want a steak or a cheese platter. Room service food was totally unacceptable. Would we suffer another Cunard cruise ...... no way,not even if a good itinerary. Not good value. Not enjoyable and not to be repeated. Read Less

This is the first time we (a group of 20 seniors) cruised on one of the "Queen" ships and after hearing our friend's positive ratings on the Queen Mary, we were really looking forward to some good times on the QE. The embarkation process was swift and efficient. The staff was friendly and informative. So a good start to the cruise. When we reached our cabin, the room steward dropped by and introduced himself and asked if there's any special service needed. He seemed jolly and not overworked. Another good sign on this ship. Unfortunately, dining is where the horror began. Since a dinner jacket was required in the dining room every evening for men, we thought the service should be top notch, bordering snobbish. Unfortunately we received the snobbish part but did not receive the service. Most of the waiting staff (both waiters and assistants) did not appear happy to work on the ship (no smile) and could not even fulfill the basic minimum waiting service: For example: I entered the dining room a few minutes late, and the others at my table already received their menus, so my friend who sat closest to the waiter asked for a menu for me and the waiter promptly said: "He can share one"! He wasn't joking so I shared a menu with my wife! At another time, my wife and I wanted to try an entree on the menu and asked if the waiter could bring out an extra entree for us to try and his response was: "I don't know! I'll try!" (with an intolerant, annoyed tone of voice). On any Princess ship, the waiter would ask what other dishes would you like to try. A third of many more examples: During one of our sit down lunches in the same dining room but different waiters, my friend ordered a certain appetizer on the menu which he did not get and we were being served the entree already. When my friend inquired about the appetizer, the waiter said it was never ordered. And when we told the waiter we heard our friend ordering the appetizer, the waiter went and retrieved the carbon copy of his order book and showed it to my friend that it was not written down! (Implying that it was not his fault but my friend's)! Any Princess waiter would've apologized and immediately go to the kitchen to get the appetizer. But not on this ship. The buffet waiting staff was no better, standing around conversing with each other rather than monitoring the diner's needs. Example: We found a table where the diners had just left so we signaled for a waiter to clear and clean the table for us. He cleared the table and walked away and never return to clean and wipe it. We had to flag down another waiter to do the cleaning work. One last example (believe me, there were many more) had to do with the Afternoon Tea waiting staff. One waiter carrying a tray of assorted sandwiches came to our table. He rapidly introduced the assortment. When one of my friends tried to clarify the type of sandwich on the tray by asking the waiter to repeat the selections, he was met with an annoyed look and no reply from the waiter. In summary, our dining experience was just unbelievably poor on this ship! Fortunately, the entertainment and dancing activities on this ship are very good. This ship contains the largest ballroom dance floor of all the ships I've been on and I was informed that all the "Queen" ships share this feature. So if you're a ballroom dancer and like to dance away every evening, this is the ship to be on. The ship's entertainment staff puts on excellent shows and most of the guest performers also put on very good shows. One more incident (unfortunately another negative one) involved the purser staff. We were trying to arrange for assistance for an elderly couple in our group as a walk-off due to our early afternoon flight out of London. When I inquired about obtaining help from the purser's counter, I was told that all walk-off passengers must carry their own luggage. When I informed her that I understand the policy but if any passenger absolutely needed help, could the ship provide such help? And that this elderly couple is willing to pay for the needed assistance. Once again, she said with all walk-offs, passengers must carry their own luggage off the ship. When I said, I understand the walk-off policy but if any of the passenger really need assistance and is willing to pay for this help, could the ship help them. She retorted by saying: "I told you twice THAT ALL WALK-OFF PASSENGERS MUST CARRY THEIR OWN LUGGAGE"! Wow, thank you and good bye! Fortunately, there were other avenues that we checked and was able to get the need assistance for the elderly couple to carry the luggage to shore. In summary, all in all I like the ship because our group likes to ballroom dance. But sadly, a most important part of this or any cruise was greatly missing: GOOD SERVICE. All cruisers know that out of all the cruise staff, you're going to be interacting with the dining room staff the most and unfortunately, this is the department that failed to meet expectations... The cruise ship was very well appointed, clean and well maintained. The cabin, a Bella Class Balcony, was spacious, well maintained and had good shower facilities. The itinerary was good with varying destinations from the Mediterranean ( Malaga) to Northern Europe (Hamburg). The service in the restaurant was poor, with up to half- an- hour wait for the first course. The choice was very limited and the portions small. We resorted to the buffet which had slightly better choices. The food was good if you enjoy pizza, pizza and more pizza supplemented by pasta and more pasta. The buffet was badly presented and its ambience not helped by the predominantly Italian passengers who seem oblivious to the amount of pushing, shoving, and elbow-digs that they deliver. The breakfast was consistent, in that everyday, the fried eggs resembled rubber mats and the bacon was reheated to achieve the texture of hardened and tempered steel. We made our own way for on shore excursions since the ports were all easily accessible on foot. The price of the shuttle buses provided by MSC were extortionate, for example 17 euros for a one mile journey into Hamburg. We have been on many cruises by many cruise lines including Airtours, TUI, Thompson, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean And Princess. This was our first cruise on MSC and I believe it will be the only one. I had chosen this cruise to experience the Baltic Capitols so well known for their history, architecture and canals, namely St Petersburg, Russia and Stockholm, Sweden. Due to Norwegian’s Port negotiability for Stockholm, they had to call port an hour away from Stockholm,(this is not what was advertised when booking the cruise, they changed it 30 days prior to cruising.).We were cut short several hours of shopping and touring of Stockholm. This was a pretty major blow against the expectations and cost of the trip. Plus, adding two hours on a bus to and from just to be able to see the famed Stockholm. Once again, this in my opinion is unacceptable and a major blow to the overall experience that was advertised and promised by Norwegian. Now, the food. I am usually pretty laid back in the expectations of the food on cruise ships. But, this has now become the top worse food experience in all my travels spanning 35-40 years. Bland, repetitive, cold, undercooked and just plain bad. I had three evenings of speciality dining to be included and only used two, because it was just ridiculous in the quality and taste. And wanting to charge extra for the Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville? What a waste of space and man hours. Not once, ever, day or night, during the 9 day cruise did we see more than 4 people sitting in there. And the place seated around 100. The shows. By far the worse shows we have ever experienced on any cruise line or heck, locally where I live, this includes our community theatre. They were campy to say the least. Thank goodness there were a few good singers and musicians in the smalls bars throughout the ship. Hence, after being a Gold cruiser with Norwegian, I am now taking my business elsewhere. The ship is clean and sense of being newer and the cabin was comfy along with an attentive cabin attendant. Read Less

We were told the ship would accommodate our needs. Had Neptune "handicapped" suite. Had no assistance boarding ship, getting off at all ports, and leaving the ship when returned to Amsterdam. First time ever in 30 plus cruises this has happened. This despite wife being in wheelchair unable to stand at all, me pushing with 2 carry on bags, etc.. Arrived at cabin Fully Accessible (SA7094) to find the wheelchair could not access the side of the bed on either side. This despite the web site saying it would (and still does by the way). Additionally bed was to high for her to access it from the chair. Cabin attendants turned the bed sideways so she could access it from one side and removed the top mattress from the bed. Pretty expensive suite for not being able to sleep in the bed. No tours buses we signed up to tour on prior to boarding were accessible despite being told on the phone by HA ExcTours they would be. We did get our money back. We took no tours. Computer room a disaster; paid for 60 minutes and all told got 15 minutes when it was working. Computer assistant apologized to everyone for how bad it was but no one got money back. Handicapped platform for wheelchair access to the tender boats I'm sure would have worked fine had the attendants been trained on how to use it. As it turned out the whole loading procedure was held up each time they tried to use it. And I suppose we got the blame for holding up the boarding. I could go on but no need adding insult to injury. Bottom line is this: if you are disabled and cannot stand DO NOT GO ON THIS CRUISE LINE! I think they have orders to "don't touch the wheelchairs". Read Less

We chose Silver Sea based on previous excellent experiences. Cabin was not acceptable, see below. The Manager of Guest Relations, Ms Ana Pedroso De Lima, could not see us for the first two (2) days of the cruise because she was "busy". The food was generally tasteless. The presentation was often pretty good, but the food just didn't taste good. A big disappointment from our previous experience. Did not check out entertainment; the enrichment lectures by Prof Adelman were great. Service was generally very good, other than the Guest Relations Office. Ports and Shore excursions were great and enjoyable. Based on our experience on this cruise, Silver Sea has lost us. We told everyone how great our experience had been on previous cruises, and in fact some of our friends have booked cruises based on our recommendation. No more. This cruise has destroyed the Silver Sea brand for us (and anybody we know). Read Less

We chose this as we have happily cruised with Azamara several times, and also it was a no fly cruise. We had expected the ship to be pristine, but, while clean, it was clearly a tired old lady. The crew were clearly still in the work up phase, as generally it was not such a slick operation overall. The cabin staff and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful, and the service was generally good. Unfortunately the management of the ships air conditioning system was sadly deficient, as 90% of the time, the main public rooms, i.e. The Cabaret, the Living Room, Windows, Discoveries and the Den were kept far too cold, given the age profile of guests, although the Den did warm up later in the cruise, and despite many complaints, this situation never improved, thus blankets were required most of the time for comfort. At no time did I see a staff member querying why so many guests asked for blankets. The food was definitely not up to the standard of other Azamara cruises, either in Discoveries or Windows, the latter not improved by the difficulty in self serving under the low glass hygiene screens. (Are these lower than the other two boats?) At no time did I see a cloakroom attendant in any of the public washrooms, unlike other Azamara cruises, and in at least two of the men's washrooms, at least one of the basin soap dispensers was empty throughout the whole cruise. An improvement on all three ships in the Windows restaurant would be to fit baffles in front of the sliding doors thus inhibiting the gale of cold air which howls through the cafeteria every time they, frequently, open. The cruise destinations were somewhat disappointing, in that we only seemed to see two steep sided fjiords, and one port, Haugesund(?), appeared to have been selected primarily to allow two Azamara ships to be in the same port simultaneously, as there was no attractive scenery on the way in, nor little of interest in the port to attract the casual visitor, yet there was a huge water area to allow one ship, the Journey, to circle the other’s mooring. Were I a cynic, I might have thought that this was perhaps a publicity stunt, such that photos of the event could appear in future publicity brochures. The in-room television offerings were very poor, with no proper program guide, no on-demand film offerings, and the films that were shown, and repeated, were very old, and it was not even possible to check your on-board account on the TV. This was a new ship to Azamara for goodness sake, and provision of such facilities is not rocket science. Sadly, overall, we were quite disappointed in this cruise, and got the impression that Azamara was cutting back, and we did not take kindly to being 'guinea-pig' guests, while still paying the full price, and given the competition at this level, will be looking closely at competitor companies, who offer larger cabins, more modern cabin facilities, and a temperate climate in the public areas. We were travelling in family with 1 young children. On this cruise we embark in Rodstock, Germany. The ship was found not as sumptuous or practical as Royal Caribbean ships but has interesting water park (this was our selling point). By the way the minimum height for the water slides is 40 inches except for the free-fall for which it is 48 inches (unlike advertise on their web-site). For the free fall there is also a minimum weight of 45 kilograms. We were given a noisy cabin (above theatre) for a family with young kid. Following constant complaints it took 3 days before the customer service offer us to change to an equivalent room. They finally moved us to a noisier room that was left from his previous occupant due to noise issues with the adjacent room. Casino areas and surrounding was badly smelling cigarette. Uneven dining service (from bad to good). Waiters did not accelerate the services for our kid. We had cold food on some occasions. We found the service generally correct, but not to Royal Caribbean level. Shore excursions were poor due to quality of the guides and programs. The Copenhagen excursion was too fast with no time to have any visit. Would not go again or recommend Norwegian. Read Less

This was my 29th cruise (12 different cruise companies). I was really disappointed. The officers are very arrogant and aloof and only acknowledge repeat passengers. Many people have done 10+ Azamara cruises. The cabin staff, bar staff and waiters are all very friendly and service and food was good. My husband complained about a few things but they didn't take any notice because we are only 2nd time passengers. My husband discussed this with a lady from the clique and she openly boasted how they would "listen to her" if she complained !! Other clique passengers blatantly ignored signs saying CLOSED and go in anyway - like they own the ship and are clearly used to preferential treatment. The ship is old and despite the refurbishment it is still very evident. The Ladies toilet's smell musty and remind me of the 1970's. Its not dirty. The ship was very clean. Its just very old. The DJ ruined the party every night. He had absolutely do idea how to do his job. He had a terrible attitude. My husband said to him your going to get bad reviews and he shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't care. After the white night party (which was good) we were told to carry on the party in the Living Room. But when we got there the atmosphere was flat and music didn't come on for 45 minutes. A manager was stood there and my husband asked him why and he just blanked him and walked away to the clique. Who proceeded to talk about my husband and stare at him !! I have never experienced such an atmosphere and unwelcome feeling aboard a ship. I have only travelled on the same ship a few times but generally get on well with other passengers and officers and don't have any problems. Azamara need to address this - I have businesses too and we all need new customers to survive. Read Less

We have never sailed with MSC before but thought we would give it a try. We were aware that it is an Italian based cruise line and there would be a mix of nationalities, with announcements in different languages, and kept an open mind on how well this would work. Embarkation was quick and smooth, about 15 t0 20mins from entering the terminal. First impressions of the ship were good. Quite glitzy with the use of mirrors etc. most areas looked impressive. Balcony cabin was ok but TV a little small with poor channel selection. Any movies available were chargeable, compared to our last cruise on P&O Brittania which had a large selection of movies that were free. Tea/coffee facilities in the cabin are always welcome. We never used the main dining room and opted for the buffet each day. In comparison to other cruises we have done previously, (RCI, Princess, P&O), we found that the standard and variety of food was lacking. Not really bad, just not up to the same standard as the others. We don't drink a great deal so never bothered with the alchohol drinks packages, although I thought that they represented good value for money. Daily activities didn't impress too much. Any quizes were only 10 or 12 questions and seemed to be over really quick, except for the multi-lingual ones, where more time was spent on the translations than anything else. In the L'amitista lounge, we saw the Irish comedian. I am 56 years old and substantially younger than any of his 'jokes'. I didn't even break into a smile, and I usually laugh at anything. We saw 3 shows in the theatre; Adams family, Sophisticats, and the Paul McCartney tribute. The shows were ok, quite varied with use of acrobats etc., but seemed a little short in duration. What was better was the entertainments team that were clowning around prior to the show starting. The Paul McCartney tribute was quite good, but clearly not to everyone's taste as a number of passengers left the theatre during the performance. We didn't travel with children, but the facilities for kids seemed excellent. Definitely a good choice for those with young families. There did appear to be a lack of staff in the bars and the service was painfully slow at times. The party atmosphere in the Tiger bar was great, but the live band made even the most upbeat song sound depressing. Itinerary was good, although we didn't care much for Le Havre. Length of time in the ports was excellent, tours seemed a little expensive though. We done our own thing in some ports. We did notice some less than desirable manners from a certain nationality, and with that and the time taken for language translations, the multi-national mix didn't work that well for us. Would we travel with MSC again?, well, never say never, but the price and itinerary would have to be exceptional. Read Less

We were there for a family trip, we were 22 and many different ages, so we have lots of different points of views. I know this is an old ship, so I cannot criticize the low ceilings and small spaces. We are used to Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. The average age of most of the passengers here was about 75, so the kids and teens didn’t have much to do. Almost everyone was European. I will start with the good, since there’s less… THE GOOD: *This ship has the best boarding and un-boarding procedure I have ever seen, it was almost like walking into a movie, no hassle at all! You showed your reservation and passport and that´s it. Your keys are inside your cabin and you have 24 hours to activate a credit card for your on board expenses in any number of machines around the ship. The baggage arrives pretty quickly to your state room. *The photographers are very good (more on this in the bad section). *The ship is clean. *The cabin is clean. *The elevators were never crowded and always arrived fast. *The ports of call were wonderful. THE BAD: *Of course the cabin is small, but they do not maximize space for putting things away, like upper shelves or cabinets. And the TV is tiny!! I imagine many people can’t even see it. *The drinks package is a scam, they make it seem like you only have the option of tap water if you don’t buy. So we bought the mid-range package and one premium, but it would have been cheaper to pay for each and every drink, because the servers and bar tenders took so long to bring you the drinks, you couldn’t consume more even if you wanted to. If you order coffee or orange juice with your breakfast, be aware that you will have finished eating long before you get it. If you do get a package, just buy one per cabin, they know how long they take, so they always bring you 2 or 3 drinks (can be different) with one card. *Don’t even get me started with the WIFI packages!! There’s no option for unlimited, so you have to choose how much you will consume and they are all very expensive, the most is 7GB (€130), which we thought was enough for the whole trip. But it turns out that it takes so long to do anything because of the horrible internet speed and you consume a lot of your allowance just trying to connect. We had to turn it on, quickly check whatever we needed to, and turn it off again. That is something you do if you only buy a very basic plan on any other ship. Dialup would have been better. DO NOT BUY IT. *The staff... I blame the cruise line for this and not the actual people who work there: -They don’t know their job very well, for example, the bartenders do not know basic drinks. -They don’t have a good attitude and I don’t blame them, they are understaffed and overworked. I saw the same people working at 6am and at 11pm. -It is obvious that they were not trained to serve. They flat out ignore you, or say things like “I heard you”, but walk away without taking your order and never come back. -There is a huge language barrier, they thought they were speaking English but it was difficult to understand and have them understand us. Not one person spoke English (or Spanish) well. -Some smell unbathed, probably because they have no time or very little access to showers. -Our dining waiters and cabin attendant tried really hard and did their job as best they could. -We always pay for the tips in advance, and I feel that they are not really given what I paid. I think they are not paid very well and the ship relies on this as part of their salary instead of what it is, a tip for their service. *They have a curtain in the shower instead of a door, and it bothers us that it gets stuck to your body while you bathe. *The in-room safe is very old and you can't see the display or numbers in the buttons. *The photographs. They are beautiful. We are a big family so every time we go on a cruise, we buy an all-inclusive photo package per family (usually $350 for about 70+- photos), we are 4 families. Like the wifi, there’s no such package here, and even with a very big discount, we could only afford like 25 photos for the same price and had to beg for them to include the digital images which were more expensive than the photo. (€20 for 8x10 photo, €30 for digital image). *The food is just ok, we always had breakfast in the cafeteria and sometimes lunch when we were at sea. We only went to the Japanese restaurant (which of course, cost money) once, and there was only one waiter for the whole restaurant. They had no idea what ponzu was. They were all out of Pepsi, and couldn’t go get it somewhere else, because that would leave the restaurant unattended. *Room service costs and it is only included in the premium package. If you use the water provided in your room, they will charge you for it even if you have the package that includes the exact same bottles. *The only soft serve machine on the ship didn’t work and from what I gathered, hadn’t worked for some time. I don’t know if it was free or not (doubt it). Since we had the package, we ordered ice cream, which was good. This was a bar at the pool area with only 2 people attending every passenger and waiter. *The gym was very small and not all machines worked. *The main dining room is very crowded and it was hard to move around without tripping or bumping someone. To sum it up, I don’t think I will cruise with MSC again, we felt taken advantage of with all the packages and the fact that there was no unlimited option for anything. Read Less

The ship was not particularly stable with a good deal of pitching and rolling in calm to moderate seas. Vibrations at the stern were noticeable even on the 10th deck. Some people in cabins at the rear portion of the ship demanded new cabins. The food was mediocre for the most part. The signature Prime steak restaurant had to recook a medium rare filet on two occasions. Surprisingly there was little local food and wine as we cruised Scandinavia and Europe. Wines were focused on primarily US wines and frequently ran out without resupply. The ship docked most of the time a significant distance from the actual place we were visiting. Long bus rides were the standard and cabs back and forth were extremely expensive. Tours were clearly not designed with the guest in mind but for the convenience of the cruise line. Many times tours were scheduled when venues or cities being visited were not open. the maddening thing was there was adequate time to run the same tour a few hours later in the day without impacting the scheduled departure times. Many times the "free time" did not occur due to the guide not managing the tour properly. 75% of the guides were substandard compared to other guides in Europe and on river cruises. It was a very expensive experience with such a negative result. Many people with hundreds of cruising days on Regent were complaining about the lack of quality on the cruise as compared to their other experiences. Read Less

Meeting with Hotel Director later this am. Very sad. Our friends who are with us usually go on Regent. 1st time on SS and because of this experience will not go back on SS. Women`s restrooms on 4th Fl (outside of restaurants) and 7th Fl repeatedly disgusting, out of towels, etc. Female Japanese guest observed to be trying to clean restroom 4th Fl (outside of restaurants) herself! Last night we went to Panarama Lounge 9:00pm after Dinner---NO STAFF! We had to go behind Bar and serve ourselves. Called Reception to complain and they say “ Panarama Staff are on Break from 8:30 -9:30pm! Why not stagger breaks but at least have some Staff present during anticipated times for use of Lounge (ie—after dinner)? Much of 6th FL deck, incl our friend`s room very warm and could not get thermostat to cool off. Very uncomfortable throughout Cruise until just yesterday. Thermostat worked fine in our Suite, but problems with plumbing throughout cruise (continuous sounds of gurgeling coming from sinks and shower drains 24/7). Another experience in Panarama Lounge---UNBELIEVABLE! All (4) of us go for drinks after dinner into the Panarama Lounge. We all order drinks and I requested a special Cognac. Debbie and our fiends get their drinks and the Waiter puts an empty Cognac glass in front of me and says that he is going to get the Cognac and return. 40 min later, Debbie and friends had finished their drinks. Same Waiter comes over and looks at my empty glass and asks if I would like another Cognac! We are all thinking this guy is trying to be funny and then realize that he was serious! I tell him that I never rec`d my 1st glass. He picks up my glass, puts his nose it and proceeds to smell 2x, and then puts my glass back on the table and says that he was sorry, starts to leave, and says that he will go and get the Cognac! We are all really SHOCKED witnessing this happen. I then stop him and demand that he get me a CLEAN GLASS! UNBELIEVAABLE!!!!! Pool/Lido Deck Grill---Super Poor Svc and food not good. Lots of Staff simply standing around, talking to themselves, as if they are in training or don`t care. Guests flag down Staff for service quite often (we even had to get up out of our seats to get attention of Staff just standing around). Very poor Management overseeing these Guest Services on Pool/Lido Deck. Overall food definitely gone downhill—quality and selections in La Terraza Lunch and Dinner not as good as before. Entertainment was very poor---although we do not usually go to many Shows anyways. Alantide—Formal Night—I forgot to bring ties on Cruise. I had Black Dress Shirt, Black Slacks, looked nice, but no tie. Several people were in line checking in. Instead of pulling me aside and quietly/politely advising me that I needed a tie to come in and eat, Maitra`d proceeds to advise me in a LOUD voice . . . I pulled him aside and told him that I understood the policy and respected that what he was saying but was critical about the way the message was delivered. He really did not care. I then asked if Debbie and our guests could please be seated and that I would try to go find a tie and return. Despite being advised of Debbie`s impaired vision and us needing a well lighted table, he proceeds to sit us in a knowing dark unacceptable table. I remind him of Debbie`s impaired vision and ask if we could please be seated at more well lighted table. He gets frustrated, says “sit wherever you want” and walks away! Read Less

The pros: * You can enjoy a variety of included food options, plus you can roam freely, even throughout one evening. No fixed timing or location. That’s quite unique and great! * ship feels like new, nice cabins and (small) bathrooms * superfriendly and efficient staff. Doesn‘t go that much for the rarely visible officers nor the reception desk. The cons: * Bagage drop in Hamburg (terminal soley used by NCL that day) 1 hour wait * followed by checkin (no status line) 2,5 hours wait * waiting lines to get a tender ticket * always waiting lines when tendering ashore (groups are called way to early) * 1 hour wait tendering back in Geiranger, 20+ min waits on other tender and bus transfers (very last seat must be taken) * waiting lines at favorite included restaurants like Jasmine Garden as you can’t make reservations for these restaurants (advantages see above) * ok food at buffet restaurant Garden Cafe got really boring after one week (being rethemed, rearranged, regrouped but not really altered) * Internet connection (I’m aware of ship/satellite implications) really bad. Picked the $35/day (it’s 2018, guys!) unlimited streaming package. Worked fine next to the Internet help desk but not properly in my midship room or other public places (long blackouts, long waits when loading, error messages on YouTube, ...). Insanely unfair offering. Not sorted throughout the cruise. * NCL refused to honor our Cruise credit despite it being stated on their very own booking confirmation. Couldn’t be sorted. Got phone number in Southampton to discuss. * 45 min bus ride (no guide) to north cape for 2 adults and 2 kids (aged 15) comes at a total of $600 * booked, among others, the “Lavazza Coffee specialities package”. The only (!) decent coffee at java cafe comes at an hefty extra charge. Same goes for fresh juices. Read Less

We chose Norwegian for two reasons - the itinerary, which was new to us, and on the recommendation of friends and our cruise adviser. We stayed three nights in Copenhagen prior to boarding and really enjoyed this lovely city, although it is very expensive and probably not good enough value to encourage us back. Because we were there we arrived to board at 10.30am hoping that we might get boarded a little before 12.00pm. We were very pleasantly surprised to be aboard at 10.55am, and found the embarkation process professional and efficient, with the staff very courteous and helpful. We enjoy cruising because of the opportunity to visit new cities, the food, the (usually) superior service and the luxurious appointments of the ships. Apart from the cities, which were all very beautiful and interesting (and all new to us), the cruise disappointed a little, with our overall feeling being that Norwegian (at least on this ship) fall below the standards which we have come to expect and love. To find large toe nail clippings on the floor beside our bed was a little off-putting to say the least. We didn't complain because this was so early in our cruise, and we felt that this was likely to be an isolated disappointment. However, although we had no other events such as this, our steward never really showed much initiative. He never really disappointed either and was pleasant enough, but he just didn't meet the standards of our previous stewards. We were on an ultimate premium all inclusive package which included 1L of bottled water per day, and we were faced with 18 large bottles on day one which were left in our cabin - this didn't help with the usual challenge of storing clothes etc. in a confined cabin. We were just glad that our cabin for 4, was only accommodating the two of us. Our balcony (room 13236) was the smallest we have ever had and didn't allow us both to stretch out on our seats. Our food and drinks package was, as I have stated 'Ultimate Premium' but we were still served draught mixers with our premium brand spirits - really!! On top of this the coke was Pepsi which is much sweeter than Coca Cola and my wife just didn't enjoy this in her drink. There was no option even to buy Coca Cola. These points apart, the choice of beer, spirits and wine was fine, although we almost always had to chase the waiter for drinks at lunch and dinner. The choice and range of food within the main buffet (Garden Café) was well below what we are used to on Celebrity, although the standard was okay if not fantastic. Taste and Savor are also both available for breakfast and dinner (served), with breakfast being very good, but the service at night being awful - we, plus a number of tables around us waited 45 minutes one night for our starters, and the same again for our main courses - the waiter was apologetic but uncaring, as was his manager, and after two disasters we never returned. Upon complaining to the Maitre d' after the second time, we were sent wine and strawberries to our room, and given a complimentary bottle with dinner in the Manhattan the following night. We found Manhattan to be an entirely different experience, with the staff and the food much better, even although the menu was the same as in taste and Savor. We had bought a speciality dining package and really enjoyed Cagney's Murdano and the Teppanyaki restaurants where the food was very good indeed and the service much improved. We had stopped speciality dining on Celebrity because the food was usually no better than in the main restaurant, and so this was a pleasant surprise. We also did the 'Cirque' dinner and show where the dinner was a set menu (kind of thrown at us) which was okay, but the show was fantastic. We also did the Rock of Ages show which was elaborate and well performed, but unashamedly overly risqué. Some of the comments and dance (ahem) moves were unnecessary and added nothing to the show - quite a number of people walked out. Howl at the Moon played in Headliners every night, with them consisting of three pianists and a drummer - usually only two performing at a time. The idea is that you write requests on a piece of paper and they then play them. Great idea if it wasn't for the fact that they make it very obvious that they pretty much only play those requests accompanied by a tip - the girl was the one constantly pushing this and looking for $10 per song. She even at times explained that she had two requests for songs by the same artist and so she would play the one accompanied by a tip. We stopped requesting songs pretty quickly and spent much less time here than we might have, which is a shame because they were very good and had an amazing repertoire. The bars were okay, but nothing spectacular - there was never any real ambience, even at Shakers Martini Bar. Maltings was ruined for us by the smoke constantly escaping from the cigar bar which is right alongside, with this being exacerbated by the smoking area immediately outside the sliding doors, meaning that there was a constant strong presence of smoke in the air. The ship itself is very nice, but not fantastic. It was very crowded and we were glad that we had bought 'Vibe' passes at $149 each - these gave us access to a private area with bar, sunbeds and hot-tubs. This area had approximately 50 sunbeds and five cabanas, but we never saw more than about 12 people in there at any time. Daru, the main waiter was very nice and attentive, but the girl who worked the earlier shift was more interested in playing games on her phone than working. Daru was regularly round with fruit cocktaiils and offers of drinks, but this never happened with the girl. Anyway, overall we did enjoy our cruise, we loved the cities we visited - the highlights being Copenhagen, Tallinn, St Petersburg and Stockholm - although immigration in Russia is a nightmare not to be repeated - our ship arranged tour almost had to leave without us. The reality is, however, that too many areas were below our expectations and it's almost certain that we'll be straight back to Celebrity. Read Less

It was well priced for Balcony Rooms and the Norway itinerary looked good. Embarkation was fine and everything seemed to be good. My biggest complaint is the main Function Room was hired out to a Dance Group for the whole cruise so we couldn't use it in the evening. We actually got in one evening and were asked to leave. About 80% of the British guests were in this group which meant all the Bars and Clubs were completely deserted and closed early. Even the Casino was closed by 12.30am and the Buffet Bar was only serving cold sandwiches most evenings after 11.30pm. I complained about this to MSC and after 7 weeks of no response they got bored of my moaning and tried to fob me off with a time limited on-board voucher. I rejected the offer and was subsequently told they wouldn't be improving it and wouldn't be commenting further. Real high class service. Viva Voyage were hopeless too. They just kept blaming MSC. I won't be using either again. Royal Caribbean and Norwegian are far superior when it comes to customer service. Shame because as others have said, the actual Boat is beautiful. Food - average Staff - Generally miserable Entertainment - standard cruise stuff, generally rubbish with a weird European spin We won't be back MSC and I'm absolutely certain you really couldn't care less! WE didn't choose it. we went through an agent.. The inspection is on the ship MSC. In a word no. First tip the money they charge for each day and call it a tip for the occult staff (10 Euros per person per day) is not mandatory to pay - only if you want. I asked the crew the money does not arrive to the team of cooks, reception clerks, etc., it remains in the hands of the company. The performances in the evening are insulting. They have one team once it is Italian, once operatic etc. Why insulting? One of our friends spoke with the Manicure lady and the said: it's an old-people cruise so it's not worth investing. The more difficult thing is that there is no drinking water on the ship, but mineral water that costs a considerable amount including service on each bottle. There's cold water in the dining room upstairs and that's it. For dinner at by a table, out of the pool or out of gym no cooler, bring your bottle or pay. There are no refreshments by the pool of course you cano buy, service rooms even though there is food around the clock costs money. And the most beautiful in the whole ship you can not get tooth picks bring from home. Last year we sailed to Alaska with Celebrity Millennium there is no comparison. All that MSC lacks is at Millennium Millennium, so make a calculation - if you do not need it and there are other companies to the area, travel with them. Read Less

We had a great time on the Baltic Sea cruise until I fell and broke my wrist. I had to have surgery in Copenhagen. After telling both my husband and I that NCL would be there to help us through the medical stuff, hotels, rebooking flughts home, etc., they put me in an ambulance and we never heard from anyone again. We were blessed to have some wonderful Danes help us in the hospital, find hotels, deal with luggage. Two seniors left stranded in a foreign country is not how NCL should treat its guests. They have not been responsive to our phone calls. The lack of caring and follow through ruined the trip (not the accident). I can not recommend this company, since they do not have your best interest at heart. Find a cruise company that will be there for you the whole process! People matter, not just money! Read Less

Felt packed like sardines all the time! Way too crowded for me. Long waits for elevators, no place to sit for buffet meals. Ship boasts gluten free products and options, but are not fully trained in cross contamination. I have celiac and was sick from day 1, no matter where I are. You can preorder meals in the dining room, but it doesn’t do any Good when they are not actually gluten free. Nothing in the buffet is gluten free except fresh fruit. Workers do not change gloves consistently, prepare and use ingredients from shared sources and prep areas. 2/3 of workers looked st me crazy when I asked if certain menu items or dishes were gluten free. So very frustrating. Cabin steward was awful- forgot towels, wouldn’t makeup the room for days on end. Russian shore excursions were a rip off- felt taken advantage of. Overpriced with guides that took us to toutrist traps. Awful. Rooms were large and spacious. Outlet picture window was foggy and dirty, but it was better than nothing. Linens were smooth and beds were comfortable. Read Less

we were a group of 38pax with most in state cabins and a few in Haven suite trying to enjoy the baltic cruise starting 4th July 2018 what was good: 1. large ship with loads of activities for the entire family 2. some staff are very good with hospitality 3. food is not healthy but good what can improve: 1. very limited healthy food options, like for example they don't have seeds for breakfast 2. hygiene in bad shape every time had to point cutlery wrapped in dirty napkins 3. bliss lounge on 11th July had Filipino DJ playing Indian songs on Indian night. The DJ did not have any clue of Indian songs, the DJ had a huge ego/attitude and was not willing to entertain Indians with suggestions for improvement. All the indians had no option but to enjoy on whatever was available. 4. no rules being followed, seen children in cigar lounge with adults smoking on the day of England/Croatia match. 5. server non-cuscsain people with low priority 6. $9.99 for iconcierge is a total waste as it does not function most of the times and will keep getting automatically logged out. 7. internet package is expensive and will get consumed without your knowledge...complaint and they will just say sorry bad luck?!? 8. Water is sold at $3 in a super cheap package or $6 normal. Choked for water you will shell out the price! 9. some staff attitude is very bad they just look at you like freebeeies on a ship!?! my suggestion don't waste your money...my last cruise prior to this was Sea Princes in Alaska...although not great it was definitely better than NCL. My last vacation was Sandals in Antigua and it was best value for my money! Read Less

We cruised the baltic sea in July. The ship was a little disappointing in regards to the food availability, especially from 20 yrs ago. First, no midnight buffet. Second, No food available after midnight - we would go to see a movie that finished at midnight, but unable to get a snack after unless you wanted to pay room service. Third, the other food service areas did not have a place just to pick up a slice of pizza or minimal hours to get a glass of ice tea. Positive, disembarkment the ship quickly was well worth taking our minimal luggage with us & not having to pack the night before. We did enjoy looking out our balcony at the scenery & sunset/sunrise. The drapes did block out the sunlight. Finally, since our flight had mechanical issues & we missed our connection - we purchased our air fare with the package air 2 sea. We were told that we should of bought insurance multiple time..... we missed our embarkment in Stockholm, air 2 sea was able to get us to Estonia. Royal Caribbean took no responsibility or consideration of us missing the first day on the cruise. A very expensive day for sitting in airports! Read Less

We have been on 10 cruises and Costa Magica does not rate very well compared to the others. We booked this just to see what other cruise lines had to offer and were pleased with the price but overall disappointed. Embarkations was the easiest so far....flawless and no lines. The ships overall appearance seems to be nice and updated. The rooms are roomy for a cruise ship and we were pleased. We were assigned seating for dining and loved the family that we were paired with but we do not like the assigned seating and prefer the "Freestyle Dining". This allows much more flexibility and not such a rigid schedule while on vacation, The food was edible but not good. Several times we tried what they brought out but chose not to eat it or ate it because we were starving.. We were also disappointed that they do not serve coffee with dessert. Coffee is only served during breakfast and at the bar. Breakfast is good and we chose to go to our assigned dining room for breakfast because it was not as hectic as Deck 9 (which is a free for all). They do offer a menu and serve you coffee as well as a continental breakfast. We were usually off the ship during lunch so we do not know how that went. The service during the Dinner was below average. We constantly had to ask for water and very seldom would pour it for you. The server would just set it on the table. Entertainment was average. We never book shore excursions with the cruise lines because they are too expensive and the groups are too large. We did hear that the ship offered a really good program for the kids which is a plus for families. One of the big things we noticed was they were not require you to clean your hands prior to meals and did not offer warm wash cloths/sanitizer to clean your hands when you are coming aboard the ship after touring another country. Hand sanitizer was unavailable when boarding the ship in some ports and the one going into the dining area did not work properly. Also, we never saw them sanitizing the handrails, etc on the ship. The workers told us they work 8 months a year, 11 hour days, 7 days a week which I am sure this contributed to the poor service. Hopefully, they were given the gratuity that is automatically added to your bill. Our cabin as mid ship on Deck 2 and we could hear the crew working throughout the night most every night. Between the food/service/sanitizing I would not recommend this cruise line. Read Less
