I chose a cruise on Norwegian Sky from Miami to Nassau, Bahamas and Great Stirrup Cay. This was my second cruise on Norwegian - being thus, I was offered priority check in, which never happened, and was supposed to receive a bottle of wine in my stateroom, which never happened. They told me once I was in my stateroom and checked in that they only offered a bottle of wine for 4 or more day cruises. And I never got an answer as to why I didn't get priority check-in even though it was offered when I booked the cruise. Why don't they share that information PRIOR to checkin when I booked my cruise? Here are my thoughts about this lackluster cruise line and this very mediocre cruise: 1. Watered-down alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Poor carbonation in all soft drinks. 2. Juice in buffet has sugar substitute in it - would have been lovely if they let consumers know somewhere on the machine. 3. Broken outlet falling out of the wall in the stateroom bathroom. 4. No soap in stateroom bathroom and watered-down shampoo and body wash in shower. 5. Noise level was appauling in staterooms. Never a moment of peace and quiet, and guests next door partying as if they were the last human beings on earth. 6. Great Stirrup Cay - Norwegian's private island - you have to bring your own towels from the ship, the island is dirty, incredibly high priced shore excursions that are not worth the money. If you lose one of your 2 towels, Norwegian bills you $25. This is an outrage. 7. Nassau, Bahamas - similarly, incredibly high priced shore excursions that are not worth it. Be careful to check your bag after purchasing anything at the Straw Market. I purchased a bracelet at one of the stalls, and the saleswoman never put it in my bag even though I paid for it. Taxi cabs will rip off any tourist - just be prepared to be financially raped in the Bahamas. 8. Good luck eating at the Great Outdoors buffet and not having your uneaten food taken off the table the moment you get up to grab a drink for your dinner. Staff in the buffet are disturbingly excited to clean off the tables the moment a guest gets up. If you think you will return to your table with your food there, dream on. It is quite amazing that the staff on the ship were not helpful or communicative about how to disembark for shore excursions or to leave the ship at the end of the cruise, yet they are curiously excited to destroy your peaceful dinner by clearing the table BEFORE YOU HAVE EVEN STARTED TO EAT YOUR DINNER. 9. Palace dining room is one of the worst places I have ever dined. Food is bland, wine is unimpressive, wait staff are not attentive - unlike those crazy staff cleaning off the tables in the buffet. 10. Art auction was a joke. They give you 3 post-it notes with your number to put on any painting you would like to bid on. All of the paintings I was interested in were not put into their auction, even though there were no more than 15 people at the auction. The auctioneer chooses which ones HE wanted to try to sell - all lackluster artists, very unimpressive. Read Less

My husband won a cruise from the casino. My husband play the tables and is very good at it. Our family call it his part time job, however he calls it fun. We cruise every other year on Royal Caribbean and when we received the cruise as a gift we took a chance. First we upgraded the room etc. which cost over $2500.00. I cant live in an interior room on any cruise line. We left from New york $300.00 pier parking arrived @ 10 am. The pier was packed because of other events which was an inconvenience because we were left to look for other parking garages. None the less we were excited to get away. The Dawn was filthy, unable to capture the views because the windows were dirty/cloudy etc. The toilets kept getting backed up. The casino had no air condition, can you imagine smoke and no air. The crew didn't provide any pleasantries. The crew didn't thank you, smile and the dining room staff including the specialty restaurants were RUDE. The entertainment I would give 1 star same group of people doing something. The ship doesn't have many activities, trivia hosted by people who barely spoke English. There's nothing to do on the ship, not a slide, hang glide, bumper car, Broadway show. They have 1 pool for over 20000 guest which is deceptive in depth, too deep. The pool claim to be 6ft well over, my husband is 6'3 water well over his head. I couldn't wait to get off of this ship. Their private island is awful nothing to do there except to look at Royal Caribbean Island which had a slide and plenty of activities. I was so disappointed when we took our shore excursion to Atlantis we started to cut our losses and stay at Atlantis and fly back to New york and get our car. The bed was slat with a dip in it, mattress need to be replaced. I had to keep calling to housekeeping to have someone change the sheets. Read Less

I don't even know where to start!!! I have been spoiled by Disney cruises and now that my daughter feels she is too "old" to travel Disney we choose Carnival out Charleston, SC Cons: 1. Don't book/pay for ANYTHING in advance prior to getting on the ship. Trust me you will have to fight/dispute charges later, so just pay when you get there. 2. Don't bother to reserve arrival/boarding time or pay for parking in advance because regardless if you pay in advance, or choose a boarding time, it is first come first serve. We waited in line for 1 hour 25 minutes just to park! 3. Be prepared to park your car and then take a van/bus to the boat!!! Crazy! 4. Be prepared to hike up 3 levels of ramp prior to getting on the boat. 5. Please, please....BRING YOUR OWN SEASONING!!! The food is soooooo bland!!! 6. Bring your own soda and water. The drinks provided for "free" are HORRIBLE!!!! 7. Not much to do on the ship. Most of the activities weren't too engaging and didn't cater to the vast mix of ethnicities on the boat. 8. Speciality restaurants are a JOKE!!! The Fahrenheit 555 had the worst view. I can't tell you have many times I tried to avoid looking out at the life boats while eating, but it was the only view they had to offer! They took forever to serve the food. And cruising is supposed to be an opportunity to taste different types of food. Be prepared to only select 1 option from the starter, main and dessert menus. You can't try additional items. The price of the steakhouse on the Carnival cruise is about the same price as the Disney Palo, and trust me, you will leave the Disney restaurant stuffed from the vast amount of options you get to choose from. 9. If you purchase the "Bubbly" soda package, be prepared to be treated as less than! The servers know that a can of soda more than likely won't come with a tip, so that take their sweet time making your drink. If you don't watch them, they will serve you left over soda from previous cans, so ask for ice and the entire can and pour it yourself. After all, you are paying $40+ for soda if on a 4 day cruise. 10. The absolute worst was getting off the boat. They tell you to sit in the Liquid Lounge and line up your luggage because this is the only way to depart the ship. While you are waiting the entire remaining passengers on the ship are upstairs getting off the boat without lining up. So we sat in the Liquid Lounge for NOTHING!! 11. Be prepared to take a 10-15 min ride to the Princess Cay beach. NOTHING about this ship is just one-stop. Everything requires a bus, van or boat to get to the next point of interest. 12. I learned they don't drain the pool every night. By the 2nd afternoon the water was so murky that I didn't allow my daughter to swim. DISGUSTING! Pros: 1. Kids Camp Ocean was great. At least from a kids point of view but they have the nerve to charge after 10pm. That is the time when most adults are up and about! Overall a terrible experience. I tried my best to be positive, but there was just nothing positive outside of getting amazing rest once I was able to adjust to the hard mattress or the lumpy couch. Katute was great at providing services for the cabin. Really nice gentleman! Will never travel with Carnival again. This was my first and last experience! Read Less

We had been looking forward to this cruise for sooooo long. It was the first one for my husband and the second one for me (although mine was 20 years ago on the no longer existing Big Red Boat). Unfortunately, was not a very good experience for either one of us and will definitely not go back on this one. Cons: *Embarkation was a nightmare! The parking and the walking just to get to the building to check-in should have been our first red flag *Not impressed with the food at all. I can't imagine that Guy Fieri would put his stamp of approval on the burgers. *Buffet ran out of food during peak dining hours at breakfast, lunch & dinner *Not enough help at the food stations, especially the Pizzeria. I felt really bad for that one poor guy trying to keep up with all the pizza orders. *You are encouraged to purchase spa services, excursions, drink packages, etc. online. However, the inclusion of gratuity is not consistent so we were unpleasantly surprised by a $50 gratuity added to our spa service that we had pre-ordered online. *If you pre-order spa services online, they are cheaper but at that point you don't have an itinerary so it is easy to book at an inconvenient time. *NOTHING started on time! Our safety meeting was 45 minutes late which meant we were late leaving port. Both of our spa services were 30 minutes late. Bingo never started on time. Everything was hurry up and wait. *Smoking only allowed in a small section on Deck 10. Well guess what? Parents taking their children to the child activity centers have to walk right through that area. REALLY? *Yes, you can smoke in some areas of the casino and we found out from fellow cruisers that there is a very small area you can smoke in on Deck 3, but the staff doesn't tell you that. *Did you know that the shops aren't open when you are in any port? We didn't. Wasn't fun to run out of cigarettes and have to wait almost 3 hours to purchase some more. *They stop bar service at 5:00 PM on Deck 10 every day. Why? *We did casual photos on board one evening. At each background, we asked if we would be able to purchase portraits of different sizes and were told yes. Went to purchase photos and 8X10 was all that is available for those photo shoots. *Our first massages ever were in the Cloud 9 Spa. I was not impressed. After they talked us into upgrading our service and then charged us incorrectly, they kept trying to push products even after us telling them politely no thank you several times. I had so many sore spots on my back for several days that I flinched when my husband would find one. *The itinerary and app featured a preview of a new, rare color changing gemstone that was going to be featured on board. The sign sat outside of the jewelry store every day. The day/time of the event, we went to check it out only to find out that the jewelry never made it on the ship. Ok, so why would you keep physically putting the sign out every day? *After we got back on board from Half Moon Cay, activities were very lacking. Couldn't they have at least had a DJ on the Lido deck? *They ask you to settle your Ship & Sign account on Day 4. So, they have 2 people working guest services - 2! Spending almost 2 hours in line to dispute charges on your account definitely does not help with the fact that you were already really disappointed with the entire experience. Pros: *We were allowed to board before our scheduled check in time *We were upgraded to a Cloud 9 Spa balcony room which was amazing and had a great location. Our room steward, Jimi was awesome! *Loved the heated seats in the Thermal Suites *We had a cabana at Half Moon Cay. So worth it (even though our cabana was the only one that wasn't ready when we got there). Half Moon Cay was absolutely stunning and having the cabana to go back to to cool off and relax was perfect! The cabanas have air conditioning, ceiling fan and a misting fan. You are provided with a huge bag of tortilla chips, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, veggie and fruit trays, 2 large water bottles, 2 sodas per person, snorkel gear, water floats, an outdoor shower, 2 lounge chairs and a table with 4 chairs. *We pre-ordered the Cheers drink package. Definitely worth it! *Disembarkation was a bit better. They did have shuttles that took you and your luggage (that you had to bring off the ship by yourself) from the ship to a midpoint in the parking lot. *The Epic Rock show was phenomenal! This is one not to miss! *We finally found the omelet station on Day 3 which helped make breakfast better. We did not eat in the dining room at all. Looked at the dining room menu each day and nothing sounded good. We tried most of the different food stations but weren't overly thrilled with any of them - the food quality or the service. For first time cruisers, the lack of communication and direction was very disappointing. Unfortunately, I can't give this experience more than a 2 out of 10. Extremely disappointed overall! Read Less

This was our first cruise and unfortunately very disappointed to say the least. This should not be listed as a “family friendly “ cruise line.Drunk adults everywhere, unsupervised children running and screaming down the halls,I’m honestly shocked that families bring small children and expose them to that atmosphere. We attempted several shows to get away but there was no escape including the pool that was way too small to enjoy. The food was mediocre at best on the ship and the buffet provided at Half Moon Cay was a disaster! Who goes to the Bahamas to eat cheap hamburgers and hotdogs with 3,000 people at one buffet?? The highlight of our cruise was the VIP dolphin excursion❤️we all enjoyed the dolphin interaction and would recommend. Our first impression is that Carnival caters to adults only. We will stay clear of Carnival and perhaps stick to quiet relaxing retreats we can enjoy as a family. Read Less

Having been a fan of royal and it’s sister ships - this was a huge disappointment. I chose this ship that was suppose to have a dreamworks program catered to little kids. After paying in full I was told the program was canceled and nothing would be replaced. I paid 500 dollars for an almost 2 year old to sit a one mini splash pool. The best part is kids wake up early and the pool doesn’t open to 10. The last day the filter was broke and we couldn’t even go in for hours. LocAted right next to a larger splash park that she couldn’t go in with a diaper or any other pool on the ship. I was told there would be multiple options of things to do with a young child - ok great if I want to put my baby in an indoor playroom on vacation NO THANKS. Do a Disney Cruise is all I can say. The food was about good as a cafeteria in a hospital and lines for places to pay were a mile long for also mediocre food. 150 central dinner upgrade was the only positive thing I can say about this cruise. Service awful, out of everything form drinks to hot dogs, they never had anything. I haven’t taken a royal cruise in many years and will never again. Celebrity has always lived up to its expectations but with a child I was told Royal was the ship- NO go If you dont want to be nickel and dimed for every penny you spend skip this cruise line. I am a person happy to spend money on a trip especially for my baby girl. I have cruised on most lines and vacationed from beaches to the best resorts. Thank goodness we are going to Disney world after this or id be so upset right now. Lesson learned I will spend my money elsewhere where by daughter can actually have things to do like the characters and parades that i paid for but we’re canceled. Let me say I never write reviews but this really upset me. Hope those who read it deeply consider before booking Read Less

This was my first cruise with Royal Caribbean, I was looking forward to a fun, relaxing time. My girlfriend is legally blind, she has low vision, so we always contact the cruise line ahead of time to make sure she is comfortable enough with the ship and the itinerary, as we have done with the three previous cruises we have been on with other cruise lines. None of what Royal Caribbean said ended up happening, this includes large print menus and cruise compasses. I realize that this really doesn’t affect most people, but for people with disabilities, especially a visual disability, rely on feeling safe on a ship to be able to enjoy themselves. Now on to the ship itself. CABIN: The cabin was your standard ship cabin, although, it was the smallest balcony we have had. The cabin itself was worn looking. There were stains on the couch cushions, and throughout the carpet. For some reason, all of the wood, desk, cabinets, etc. were really sticky. We had to wipe everything down before feeling comfortable in there. FOOD: the food was wildly inconsistent, and was ok at best. We did not eat at the buffet at all. The food in the dining rooms lacked flavor and any sort of creativity. The pizza at the promenade cafe was pretty good. We ate breakfast in the dining room every day. One thing that bothered me about breakfast service is, they had a buffet set up in the middle of the dining room. The was strange to me, if I wanted a buffet, I would’ve went to the buffet. It felt like they were trying to get away from serving the guests. The worst part of breakfast was that they couldn’t even make fresh toast, it was just sitting in a basket, and was rock hard. SHOWS AND ENTERTAINMENT: we didn’t see the ice show or the stage production. Our biggest issue here was the fact that they kept changing the schedule for shows and events. We saw the comedian at the welcome show on the first night, he was funny, so we were looking forward to the other comedy shows. This ship has the new Royal Caribbean app, which has the full schedule for the entire cruise available. The schedule for the comedy show kept changing, in the end, the only other comedy show was on the last night at midnight, had to be off the ship early the next morning, great job. We also love playing trivia while on the ship. The entertainment staff couldn’t even do this right. One time, a crew member came down to play the completely wrong game, and told us we were wrong, a moment later, the lady came over to host our game and had to tell the other guy he was in the wrong place. Another time, actually later on the same night, we went for trivia, and the host actually played the trivia game from the night before, wouldn’t listen to us when we tried to tell him. PORTS: We did not get off the ship at Nassau, this was our third time there. At the new Coco Cay, we rented a bungalow on south beach. We were told the shuttle will bring you right to the bungalow area, no, got dropped off about a half mile down the beach through deep, soft sand. There were plenty of servers around to take drink orders, they just didn’t walk around much at all, not one server walked near our bungalow all day. The island is beautiful though. OVERALL SHIP CLEANLINESS: the refurbishments on this ship are beautiful, but was still probably the dirtiest ship we have been on. Banisters were dirty, carpets were dirty. We never saw anybody cleaning, which is uncommon for a cruise. We saw staff riding the elevator, just not wiping anything down. This was our fourth cruise in the last three years, and this was the first time we did not enjoy ourselves at all. My girlfriend actually felt scared going around this ship. Read Less

I have been on 10 cruises so far, mostly Celebrity and Royal Carribean. This was my first and LAST Carnival Cruise. We decided to take a quick last minute 7 night Western Carribean cruise out of Port Canaveral in a SPA balcony cabin. WHAT A MISTAKE. The food was horrible, the cabin steward only offered once a day service, we had to beg for extra towels, their dine anytime, required us to get into a line every time before the meal and get a table assigned to us and then proceed to another floor where the restaurant was located and give the table # to the staff. Really??? We ended up eating in the buffet area as the food in the dining room was bland, extremely small portions, and long wait times between courses. The buffet area dining tables were always dirty, the window shelf areas along side the tables were disgusting. Most of the time the sanitation stations had no product in them. Low and Behold, the last day I wake up with a horrible sore throat and miserable cold. NEVER AGAIN WILL I CRUISE CARNIVAL. PS. If you like tons of drunken sloppy 20-30 year olds, this would be your dream cruise. Read Less

The vendors outside of customs are a little pushy . I do wish a diabetic selection of foods had been offered in the dining room. The food was yummy but soo rich and sweet. The coming and going from port was fun for us first timers. We took the cove snorkel tour which we highly recommend. You can walk out into the ocean very far and we took pics of turtles, Ray's and fish. The cabins are nice size, plenty of room to store luggage and huge closets. Roomy shower. Bring a regular extension cord for your chargers. The view out our window was fantastic and seeing the wake if the ship with the lights from the ship was really pretty. Read Less

Well where do start. I know how about Sunday morning at 7am where the crew was dragging some big item across the floor and banging with a large hammer. How about the disgusting smell at the elevator entrance that makes you want to commit. I realize it's a cruise and your not suppose to set in your room but maybe having more than 5 TV channels that repeat programming over and over. Now let me get to the main complaint. The food on this ship is horrible. Why do you only have one buffet that is a hodge podge of nothing. Why is it shut down multiple times a day. Why does the most popular thing in the ship the burger place close at 6 everyday. Even the Mexican place closes. If you choose to wait till after 6 to eat you either go to the nicer dining hall or eat the crappy buffet. Sorry I have been on other ships and this was not an issue. Even the nicer dining hall sucks! Our room was decent but that's about it. Rumor has it this ship is leaving and a different one is coming to Charleston. Hope so because if not this is my families last one. Oh one last thing. My wife can occupy herself and have fun about anywhere but she is bored out of her mind because there is nothing to do on this boat. Be warned, drive on down the coast and get on a other boat. I sailed with a group of ladies. The dining seated was constantly messed up to keep us together. I realize we had a large group, but what happened to assigned seating. Breakfast in the Imagination Room, we were always told that we had to wait for the rest of the group to show up. We would then look around and find other members of our group already seated. When we asked to be seated close to them, we were told they couldn't do that. The food wasn't like I remembered it was either. No special dishes like duck or escargot, many American dishes like mac and cheese and fried chicken for a main dish. Two elevators were down and being worked on. While we were at Freeport, there were maintenance workers everywhere I looked working on the ship. The ship rocked back and forth the entire trip. I am not sure if it was the Captain sailing to fast or the age of the ship not have stabilizers to avoid to rocking Many people said that they weren't going to sail again. Our window leaked water into the room on the last night. I called maintenance. They didn't send anyone to look at it. I really think that Carnival needs to retire the Elation. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I was looking for an inexpensive cruise option for first time cruise passengers as an Early Mother's Day gift for my mother and myself. Found the deal on Groupon for $249 for 2 with an "all inclusive stay aboard with an oceanview cabin room". After I did more research and found out about the governmental taxes and the gratuities and did my calculations which made it a little over $400, I was still on board. Made the purchase, contacted groupon to figure out how to redeem and book the cruise. After doing that, I was ready to go and very excited. Fast forward to our cruise date: my mother doesn't fly on planes but we don't live too far away to drive so I didn't mind driving the 13 hours to arrive at the port. We get there, its beautiful and were ready to board and maybe get back off until we actually set sail and look around palm beach right? No. We get waived into overnight parking and immediately get herded in like cattle. Rushed to the point that both of us were irritated and shouting "we've never done this before!" We were bewildered and just following the herding procedure they forced upon us. After getting inside and getting ready to go thru the metal detector and bag xray area, a ship employee in plain clothes who was apparently running late screams at me and my mother to put our bags on the conveyor belt and by this point my excitement was gone and I had had enough. After a stern look to the employee I apologized and asked if she wanted to go ahead. She said no smiled uncomfortably and asked us to put our bags on the conveyor belt again. We slammed our things thru and passed security and got upstairs to check in and receive our boarding pass card things. The attendant at the counter upstairs was a delight and very friendly and she eased our minds. We thought maybe we were just on edge from traveling and started to dismiss the rudeness from downstairs. After we received our room keys we went to board the ship and got harrassed at the hallway before the door about excursions, add on packages for alcohol, dining packages, photo packages, spa packages all very much priced out of our budget with an additional 18% gratuity. Oh and not to mention it says ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE that we HAVE to have a card on file for them to charge if we want something while on the ship that automatically puts a $100 hold on...oh and this card? This is the one that the initial $13.95 per person/per night gratuities are taken from. Not when you pay for the cruise, which makes absolutely no sense. I don't have a credit card. My mother had to put her credit card on file or we were not going to be allowed to board the ship. Once we board the ship we are told that the state rooms will NOT BE READY until 2pm and it was just now 11:30am. All I wanted to do was eat something and take a nap and allow myself to regroup and enjoy this experience which sucked so far. Were asked to go to the top deck where we are allowed to smoke cigarettes and purchase alcohol or we can go to the buffet area and get something to eat while we wait on our room. We go to the buffet which was ok, not the best but I have certainly seen worse at restaurants on land so I wasn't too disappointed. There were a lot of options available for picky eaters like myself. We sat down to eat and are asked in the 45 minute time frame that we are in the buffet area a total of 13 times all by different server/attendant people if we wanted to buy a $17 plastic cup that came with 2 alcoholic drinks of our choice. We declined so much that it was almost as if we were swatting them away like mosquitoes. They told us at 1pm that our rooms were ready so we made our way upstairs and only 1 of our 3 bags was in our room. The other 2 bags had mine and my mother's prescriptions as well as other important personal items and toiletries as well as most of our clothing and other items in them. We waited for about 30 minutes for the other bags to arrive and when they didn't, I stepped out and found and attendant who was bringing bags upstairs and I located our bags and brought them to our room. I changed clothes and fell asleep. When i woke up, there was a blaring intercom announcement with an extremely thick accent that we couldn't understand telling us to go to a room for a safety demonstration. It took about 45 minutes of more extremely thick accents and life vest demonstration before I could return to my room. I went back to my room and went back to nap. When I woke up it was raining and it never stopped. The entire time. Even when we arrived in the Bahamas, nothing. But. RAIN. All we were able to do was make 1 trip to the duty free shops and after going to a second souvenir type gift shop in the duty free area and the attendant argued about the price tag that was on the item and then refused us service. All we did was eat and sleep. The formal dining experience was lovely. Our waiters there were awesome. Food was wonderful. Live music was pretty good given that we didn't have many other choices for entertainment because it literally rained the entire time. Everything else was too expensive. The included amenities are fine if you're able to enjoy some time on the beach but I feel like if you get rained in, they should offer some other amenities that they normally charge for for free to build respect and confidence in the purchase. They didn't care about any of the passengers or whether or not they were enjoying themselves. We finally caved on the last day and bought a $17 cup each because there was literally nothing else to do so we figured let's drink right? No. The drinks were poorly mixed to where we couldn't even drink the whole drink each time we filled our cups. We had no idea where to find anything on the ship and what amenities were included with cruise fare. It was like a word search on the cruise itinerary to figure out what was included. This was so exhausting. I would've been more relaxed if I would've stayed home and my mother agreed. It was an old cruise ship and it was evident. The attendants were literally only worried about their 18% gratuity and treated us like cash cows. They nickel and dimed us to DEATH. Worst vacation experience ever I will never ever use this cruise line again. Even if it was free. I'd rather pay 4 grand to a reputable cruise line than use this trash again. It ruined my mother's day gift to my mother and made the experience horrible. Read Less

the worst company to deal with. They don't deliver what was promised when the reservation was made, you step on the ship, look at your cabin, and feel very disappointed. so, you walk to the customer service to find a loooooooong line of disappointed customers, stand there for a couple of hours and never get anything resolved. Then you on board for few days continue with measurable experience. I would not recommend Royal for travelers, why would you want to pay your money and spend your vacation time with this company if there are others that offer better experience? They promise staff for kids, for instance the virtual reality trampoline. My kids were so excited to experience it, guess what: it was NOT OPEN the all time we were there. Kids were disappointed. There were no shows for kids, NONE. They have 2 ice cream machines, one of them was broken, and always line to get ice cream, that was served melty. They had one slide for kids, and line always was long to get on it. The all trip was a complete disappointment to all of us. They advertise the new renovations they've done to the ship, I wonder what was it before? OH, ONE MORE THING THE FITNESS CENTER DIDN'T OPEN TILL 9 OCLOCK!!!!!!! SO STUPID, REALLY. We went to celebrate my daughter's graduation from college., we were very disappointed with Royal Caribbean we probably will not sail again, we were promised an upgrade that never happened, stuck in a little tiny room, a late meal time that we didn't choose, entertainment was non-existen, the Promenade deck was like a flea market with Carnival barkers, everything seem to have an extra charge to it, our cabin Stewart Harold was fantastic and Johnny on the spot with everything we needed, but the rest of the staff acted like we were an intrusion, Coco Cay was a complete disappointment make sure you bring your wallet if you want to do anything other than sit in the sand, the drinks were way over priced, and the staff was rude, the food on board was mediocre and that's being kind however our wait staff was great, this was our first and last time sailing with Royal Caribbean we Cruise quite a bit then I suggest you spend your money elsewhere. We have been on many cruises. First time on Royal Caribbean. Worse, boring, and not friendly Cruise ever!! No entertainment on the pool area deck. The DJ was terrible in the Viking Lodge ,stopped the music, and turned on all bright lights every time someone spilt a drop or dropped a drink. The centerium area of the boat was mostly dead and the bar was design were your back was to entertainment area. The ship was old and didn’t looked kept up. There were a few issues with the electronic part. Even the guy doing (employee) music trivia complained about the age and out dated equipment. Honestly felt like we were at a floating nursing home. If bingo is your thing, Royal Caribbean Cruise is for you. On a positive note, we did like that the drink package was unlimited and usable off the boat. CooCay was very nice and well kept. Pool was clean and service was decent. CooCay was definitely the best part of the whole trip. Never again! Carnival ships in the future. Read Less

My girlfriend wanted to go on a cruise and after reading some reviews we decided to try one with carnival. Since this was our first cruise we tried a short 3 day cruise and I’m so glad we only went for that long. Each bar only had one bartender. If there was a second person behind the bar they were cleaning or doing something else other than serving the long line of passengers waiting for a drink. It would sometimes take 15 minutes just to be acknowledged. The food was terrible. I foolishly had two hamburgers the first day and was sick later that night. Perhaps sea sickness played a roll in this, however this was the only day I got sick. Everything at the buffet tasted awful, I’ve cooked food with no seasoning that tasted better. It took an average of ten minutes to wait for an elevator. There was NO clear information on anything. We were told nothing would be open the morning we were debarking however there was one buffet and a few bars open. One night they had an “elegant night” where people dressed up for dinner. When our meal arrived it was barely lukewarm. The waiters were carrying plastic trays with the food in them out from the back as if all the food was pre prepared. This would explain why it was cold but not why we still had to wait 30 minutes to be served after ordering. There were three pools aboard but you could only fit about 10 people in each. The hot tubs had cold water being pumped into them starting around 9pm. What is the point of a hot tub if you can only get in during the day when the hot sun is out. This whole thing was a terrible experience. I feel like there was no attempt to achieve guest satisfaction this cruise was simply for profit. Of course they need to make a profit, it’s a business. I just have no idea how they continue to do so with such abysmal service. Neither me nor my girlfriend will ever cruise with carnival or recommend them to anyone. This experience most likely ruined any cruises for us in the future not just with carnival. Housekeeping was the one positive. Read Less

This was not my first cruise, but it was my first cruise on NCL. It will also be my last. I will start with what was good about the cruise. The breakfast and dinner was very good. We did not eat in the buffet. We ate breakfast at Savor or Taste each morning and for dinner ate there as well or at the Tropicana. Lunch in the buffet was gross. Our room was also a good size. We were in a mid ship balcony. I can not speak for the other rooms. Now for what was disappointing, the organization, entertainment, and communication was atrocious. Organization: If you never traveled on NCL you wouldn’t know you had to make reservations for everything including dinner and entertainment. When we arrived we did not know that and when we found out everything was already booked. However, we would show up to shows and they would be empty. The whole reservation thing just makes first time travelers not think they can participate in shows. They would do nightly activity in the Atrium will no room for anyone to sit and watch. The time management on the ship was so off. Things that were scheduled on the daily sheet would just not happen. We went to a class at the gym and no instructor showed up to teach it. We would go to do trivia and it would have already started, even though we were on time. We ordered room service for the morning. On the sheet they give you times to have it delivered we put between 7:30 and 8:00 it showed up at 6:45 and woke us up. The last day we put it for 7:00-7:30 and it just never showed up, and no one answered when we called. The worst organization was at Great Stirrup Cay, we arrived and they never made an announcement for tenders to depart. We happened to walk downstairs and see the crew putting people in line based on the tender number. We were tender group 1. They out on line then brought us into the theater where we waited over an hour to leave. While we waited they told us we had to be back by 4:30 even though the schedule said 5:30 and when I asked why it changed they said they had to get everyone back on time. So in the end they were 2 hours late to get us to the island and then made it seem like we had to be back an hour early. The last tender back was 6:15. When we were on the island they ran out of food and closed the bars early. Communication: Just like the issues at Great Stirrup Cay when not one announcement was made they did not make an announcement for departing Nassau. Everything was figure it out for yourselves. This came to leaving the ship on the last morning. I walked downstairs when I saw we had been at port early. It was 7:15 when I asked the crew what time we would be able to leave and they told us no earlier than 8:00. I went back to my room and not five minutes later did I hear someone scream, “freedom” outside our balcony (someone screaming freedom when they leave vacation should say it all about NCL). I looked and saw people leaving the ship. Again no announcement was made. This was the theme of the week. We had no clue one night was a dress in white night and another being a formal night. Seemed like only people who had the app and paid for the Wifi were informed about this information. Entertainment: The entertainment on the ship was lacking for a better word. They did one activity by the pool a day. Otherwise it was a DJ playing very boring music. When they did the activities by the pool, people were so into. We never saw the “entertainment team” by the pool during the say. They were doing indoor activities. When it is 80 degrees and sunny, I do not want to be inside. The dueling piano bar was not dueling pianos but just two people taking turns playing songs that were requested. Not once did they duel. The nightly adult activity was right in the middle of dinner time and was done in a packed atrium. When someone asked why they didn’t do more they said they had too many people and didn’t have the room for activities. Also a theme of the cruise. They could not accommodate the amount of people on board. All in all it was just a poorly done cruise. The worker seemed overworked and understaffed. They told us multiple times this was the last trip for the destinations and you could tell they were over being on the ship. We were late to leave, late to get to Florida, and late to leave for Great Stirrup Cay. The sheets never fit on our bed and I would wake up sleeping on the mattress with no sheet. NCL should be ashamed of the cruise they put people on. They need to work on the communication and organization. All we heard well week was people complaining about the lack of chairs to sit at (if you didn’t up at 7:00 am you didn’t get a chair in the sun by the pool), the lack of reservations available, and just the overall quality of the trip. NCL is not worth the price of the cruise. I could go on, but this is already very long. Read Less

We chose this cruise based upon the week we were traveling and the NY location These are a list of things you should be made aware of: ~ As we boarded the ship we witnessed an entire crate holding luggage fall into The Hudson River. The fork lift operator did not secure the cart before lowering it. We believe this was the cause of us being a few hours late to depart and cannot even imagine what those poor passengers had to deal with after their luggage soaked in such filthy water (which we seen with our own eyes). ~ Our first stop in Florida we were delayed 3.5 to 4 hours and therefore did not get to our day at the beach until 5pm. We were not offered an apology or a choice to cancel our excursion and were still charged full price. We made the best of it, things happen sometimes and we know that. ~ Our second stop was to Great Stirrup Cay which we were really looking forward to. AN ENTIRE DAY AT THE BEACH after only an hour the day before. Come to find out there was only 2 tenders to remove some 3000+ guests and it took us 2.5 hours standing in line (in a HOT hallway) with angry passengers before we finally got on a tender. We were "assigned" tender 8 after waiting in the guest services line with all the other frustrated vacationers but we luckily did not wait until we were called, we jumped in line waited 2 and a half hours and it did not matter because there was no such thing as tender tickets!!!!!! WHAT????? The other poor people did not get off the ship until 2:30 and there was no food left for them to eat. An absolute disaster for being a private island and not having more tenders. AGAIN - we made the most of it and at least got 3 hours in at the beach. We also were not allowed to rent an umbrella on the beach but luckily one of the other guests offered us his. ~ Our last stop was The Bahama's and luckily no problems were experienced there as we spent a fortune to spend the day at Atlantis and had a good time! On Board these are a few of the things we noticed and cannot help but compare to other cruise lines. ~ The entire trip it seemed almost all areas were understaffed. We came across 3 very public piles of vomit that were not at all being tended to. One at the Garden Cafe we noticed while having lunch. We looked at the table empty beside us only see someone had gotten sick and instead of it being cleaned up the staff just tilted chairs over it to cover it up. GROSS! Once in the hallway by our rooms my friend witnessed someone throwing up and called housekeeping to let them know but it was not cleaned up for a good 2 hours. All the while kids/people walking up and down the hall and either stepping in it or jumping over it! AGAIN GROSS and completely unsanitary considering my friend called to report it. The third occasion was up on the 17th pool deck in one of the public handicapped showers. I went in to cool off only to be told by another passenger not to go in there because someone had gotten sick and no one was around to clean it up. ~ The soap dispensers in every public rest room were impossible to get soap from. It was not just my experience but everyone in my group and other guests commented the same. To the point that the onboard comedian even had it as part of his show. How in the world (when it is SO VITAL to stop spreading germs) do you not have soap dispensers that work?? ~ The ship was constantly dirty. Outside by the pool decks, the counters in the main lobby, bars and the floors in the elevators were SO GROSSLY STICKY. Again, it was like they were extremely under staffed. ~ The food was, in all honestly, just edible not enjoyable. I understand it is hard to have a buffet for 3000+ guest but it was not just in the buffet. The free style dining rooms were just mediocre. We luckily had 3 specialty dinning meals and they were excellent, but thought the pricing for kids (not included in the dining package) was obnoxiously expensive. Each family had 2 kids and charging $36.00 per child and an automatic 20% gratuity is just ridiculous. And to not even have a different kids menu in each restaurant was just crazy. My poor kids ate burgers all week because I could not see spending $50 per kid knowing they eat like birds. What kid’s meal costs $36???? Nowhere will you ever find a place charging $36+ for a kid’s meal that is unfairly overpriced for the amount of food a child would eat. ~ The ice cream up in the Garden Cafe never really worked and it was more of a milk shake than soft ice cream. It was never fully frozen. ~ Unlimited drinks should include EVERYTHING and not up-charges for different brands. That is just false advertising all around. I've never ever been on a cruise that charged extra for different brands. ~ The staff and crew did not appear to know anything at all. We constantly were told things that made no sense or were directed to the Box Office, but they were not open and no one else could help us. Anyone at Guest Services (IN MY OPINION) should be able to answer any question. That was never the case. We spent a lot of time up there in line to ask questions only to feel clueless and a complete waste of time. The one gentleman told us we were charged for Burn the House when in fact we were being charged for a different show. It was not just one experience, but any experience we had asking staff a question it was like it was their first week of work. ~ The kids club! We were traveling with 4 kids. Two 11 year olds and two 9 year olds. Every piece of documentation we read before selecting and booking this cruise had two age groups for the kids club and once on board there were 3 groups and our kids had to be separated. We asked multiple times if our two 9 year olds (who will be 10 next month) could go with their older siblings and were told NO WAY AT ALL. Again, this was a horrible experience for us as we went with another family and our kids wanted to be together. Of course the only time they could be together was at 10:30pm and we would have to pay per kids. No flexibility at all. You should update the information so people know that before booking. ~ We stood in line for an hour and a half that Saturday we arrived to book tickets for shows and had our reservations given away to standby before the show even started. If you make a 7pm reservation you should not have to be there by 6:30 or lose your tickets. That makes NO SENSE. You should then tell us the reservation is for 6:30 and not seven. Again 4 disappointed parents and kids. Obviously it goes without saying that a lot of money and planning went into this trip and to say we were disappointed and at times absolutely disgusted is an understatement. I could not help but to compare it to my most recent cruise on Royal Caribbean (11 months ago) and my other cruising history and hands down Norwegian was a total disappointment compared to the others. I would never cruise with Norwegian again and or recommend to anyone else interested in cruising. Read Less

I travel often and have cruised numerous times! This past week we cruised NCL Getaway! and I counted the hours until we returned. The ship and staff are completely unorganized!! You do not get the sense that anybody has a true understanding of what is going on. - The buffet breakfast HORRIBLE like a mob of people eating for the first time! Yes they offer sit down breakfast but they end by 9:00am. Lunch was the same! - The pool! I assure you someone could drown and nobody would know. Thousands of people for a pool that probably holds safely less then a hundred! It was a mob scene!! Deck chairs, if your not up and out by 6:30 am - 7:00 am your not getting a chair!! - Dinner reservation, yes I tried to book ahead of time and was only able to get late times! Once on the ship (we were on the ship within the first 100) we waited over an hour for reservations to be made. Everybody fighting with staff! - Florida, we got in late I needed to get off the ship to seek medication for my son ASAP. I was informed I needed to wait in the line that would take 1.5hrs to 2 hrs. When I flipped out and they got me an officer who understood the magnitude of my issue I was off in 10 minutes. - Great Stirrup Key disembarking was INSANE!! took until 2:30 to get everyone off the ship. We had a 10:15 tender time and were not off until after 11. We waited over an hour in a crowded theater! Not to mention other guests informed us we needed to book a tender. - No accommodations made for handicap. You'd be trampled in the mob scene it is. - Guest Services USELESS!!! 1 or 2 people working for thousands of guests. ** Watch your bill they add charges. - WiFi they charge and it doesn't work! No matter where you go its crowed with little to no organization. Always a line!! - Their was a burning smell in my moms cabin the first night. We called numerous times to have this checked out! Finally my husband ran to guest services when they came they blamed her! Meanwhile it was 11 pm she wasn't using anything it was their blow dryer shorting out !!! Completely unprofessional and unavailable when calling. The one thing I took away from this trip is the un-safety of it all. If they are not organized on the day to day operations how can they be organized if an emergency was to occur. Bottom line crowding people on a ship without adequate staff and room is an accident waiting to happen. When you can't manage the day to day operations in a controlled safe way how can you possibly handle an emergency! Thank God our trip is over!! Pay extra book a smaller more personalized vacation! We chose this cruise as we traveled with our son's family with grandkids ages 8, 5. and 2 and didn't want to fly. It was Easter week so we knew there would be lots of kids. My husband and I are seasoned cruisers having cruised over 40 times with carnival, celebrity, holland america, royal caribbean, princess and cunard. Embarkation - Horror show - We arrived at the port at 11;30am and it took over an hour to get thru security and registration. On board, we were told it would be at least until 1:30pm before we could get into our rooms so we went to buffet for lunch as grandkids had been on the road for 5 hours and hungry. The buffet was slammed, no tables available. Went to the pub but couldn't get in. We went back up and got food and ate on the lounge chairs by the pool! The ship was full so they needed to make better accomodations for lunch. The first dayon a cruise is always a zoo but we had never experienced such a disaster as this. If you are traveling with young kids during school vacations, bring food with you. We didn't get into our room until 2;00pm. People finished eating but just sat around at the tables because they couldn't get into their rooms. We had 2 balcony rooms next to each other. We requested the room attendant to open the divider between the balcony but he said he couldn't do it due to safety issues. It was very disappointing as we didn't have adjoining rooms with 2 grandkids with their parents, and 1 with us. Anyway, we were able to open the balcony ourselves and did it occasionally. Room- There were plenty of storage space, the bathroom seemed larger than most with shower with glass door. The balcony was soooo small we took the small table and put it in the room so we weren't triping over it. Dinning- The food was not good at all. Buffet - We didn't like the setup with one big line going down once side to the other side. People cutting in and out, just chaos. The choices were typical but presentation and selection lacking. It felt like a school cafeteria. The pizza and desserts were the worst. Dining Rooms - We ate at Tropicana and Savor. The selections were limited and by and large the food was terrible and unappealing. You won't see any salmon or beef tenderloin on the menu and the steak offered was pitiful. I do have to say the Eggs Benedict in the dinning room for breakfast was one of the best I have had at sea. Speciality Dining - We were offered 3 free speciality restaurants. We went to the Steak House. It was okay but the veal chop was all fat. I should have sent it back. The Italian Restaurant had a nice selection but the pasta didn't have enough sauce and was very dry. We enoyed Maderno's the Brazilian steak house the best. The meats were fair but really enjoyed the salad bar. Reservations - You really need to make reservations for the speciality dining before you go. When I booked the complimentary restaurants, they could only give me 5:30pm or 9:00pm. Once on board we had no trouble getting into them at other times but the last night, the line to the Tropicano was all the way up the staircase. I was told by reservations that they leave 70% of the times open for people to book once on board. Our son's family went to the Teppanyaki, hybachi style restaurant. They were charged full price for the kids, even 2 year old. You didn't have to pay if they ordered off the children's menu but who wants to have a hot dog at an hybachi restaurant. The children's menu never offered a pasta dish. They did have mac and cheese which was watery and terrible.. They call it free style dining but it isn't. You need to spend your time making reservations for both dinner and shows. We booked our show ahead of time only to learn they once on board the time was changed. Oue choice was either go to the show or the steak house. We couldn't changed the steak house reservation so we missed the show. What a joke. Activities - The pools for children were separated into 2 pools, one 3 ft and one 4 ft. The one for older kids was very small. There is not a covered or heated pool on board. The best thing was the ropes course. The show Burn the Floor was very good according to my kids. Ports - Tendering to the Private Island was a diaster. No announcements, no written information. Just chaos. I signed up at guest services to be told I would be first off the ship. Never given a number. We went to the Theater and waiting for disembaration only to be told they were waiting for clearance from Bahamian officials but they own the island. It took over an hour to get to the island. Need to build a pier like Royal Caribbean. Nassau -We did the Blue Lagoon and it was great for the kids. My 8 year grandchild swam with the dolphins and loved it. Service- This is the only thing on board that was excellent. All staff we encountered were outstanding. All and all, we will not be cruising on Norwegian ever again even if they offered us a free cruise. Read Less

Bathrooms were smelly and disgusting....we arrived in Florida late so we missed our excursion due to currents and weather.....got to their island on Tuesday. Were not told we had to have resy for tender....made rest for 11am... did not leave the ship till 1:15pm. Sat arpu d waiting and then moved to bix office to wait some more. Got to the island and bbq closed at 2pm. At the last beach loaded with rocks and shells. Cur my calf and my daughter scraped her knee. There was one clamshell on the beach and we couldn't move it to where we were. Had to rush back to the boat for 5:30 dinner resy.....Balmoral island when we docked in Nassau....another line waiting on wrist bracelets for dolphin swim. Beach there was awesome but also very costly for everything. Back on the boat for two days.....no seats in the atrium, no lounge chairs unless get up at the crack of dawn to put a towel down and save a seat. Getting a soda was a joke and the nickel and diming of all on board items was crazy. I saw one woman in the bathroom who couldn't wait to get off and called the ship a sh*thole. My daughter won a prize in the arcade and it didn't come out.....my sister in law had to fight them for a rubix cube......I would never sail NCL again. Last day off the ship.....guest services has two stations open....the cruise had over 4500 people on it...... what a joke.....thousands of dollars - I could have went to Disney and redone my bathroom......never cruise NCL again.....what a shame. Sports bar has one channel......TV has the same shows and episodes.....movies cost $10 and the onboarding texting is a joke.....it's $9.95 per phone and you have to download the ncl app which you can't because you are onboard. .. .what a joke.....worst spent money ever......so not happy. Stay far away. NOT advertised as "family cruise," despite it being one for school vacation. ALL entertainment geared toward children; absolute bore 99% of the time. Whether at sea or in port, activities were all the same and poorly done. Entertainment was professional, but literally 45 minute shows and no adult-centered themes or types of shows. Cruise director was GREAT, as were staff--but it was a boring, unenjoyable cruise for us. We paid thru the nose and our cabin was tiny, tiny, with a deck facing the non-sunny side of the boat. The ship had NO fruit except for really lousy-tasting melon. The coffee was not drinkable. The gym was ice cold and the music was BLASTING 100% of the time. The only fun we had was the art auctions, which we had no particular interest in but that were very well run. Again, staff was wonderful, not their fault. The cruise line ignored our feedback, FYI, Norweigian did not even care! Also, embarking was disaster--lines 1 hour long to get to reception because of problems for everyone. Read Less

Chose this cruise due to its close proximity to our home. I wish beyond wishes I would have read reviews before booking. As soon as we walked on boat my husband and I looked at each other in horror. The smell is so overwhelming. Complete and utter sewage smell ALL the time. The boat felt so unclear as it is outdated, old, rusty etc. I could barely sleep...it felt like I was sleeping in an RV camper and I HATE camping. We were so bored...had 5 kids with us and hardly any activities, overcrowded pool etc. Our 3rd stop was supposed to be half moon cat which is the one place I could not wait to go and the captain determined the waves were too high so we could not get off boat. While I appreciate them keeping us safe the thought of staying on that boat for one more sea day made me cry. I woke up with a migraine every night from the boat rocking my head up and down so hard every night. I will say the staff was absolutely incredible and made our trip somewhat enjoyable. They deserve a medal for living with that sewage smell and The constant rocking of that ship. NEVER AGAIN!! Read Less

My husband and I were recently on the Norwegian Getaway Ship that sailed from NYC on Saturday April 13 and returned Saturday April 20, 2019. We have used Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise lines, but this was our first experience on NCL. It was awful. This was by far the worst cruise we have ever had the displeasure of sailing. We had so many issues, I don’t even know how to rank them, so in no particular order: 1. Instead of a queen bed, we were given 2 twin beds with a large sheet on top. There was no cushion, and both beds dipped in the middle it was incredibly uncomfortable. 2. There was no outlet by the bed, and my husband had to ask for an extension cord for his sleep apnea machine, which we had to run the length of the cabin. 3. Throughout the week, the understaffed and overcrowded buffets, bars, and restaurants ran out of water, ice, soft ice cream, and bloody Mary mix. 4. The adults only “Vibe” that could only be reserved once on the ship was sold out within hours of boarding, if not sooner. (I wouldn’t know the exact time because the line to speak with someone was at least 2 hours.) 5. All the on board shows were booked at least days beforehand. They were also very small venues so only a small, select amount of people could see them. For a so-called “Free-style” cruise, there seems to be an extensive amount of pre-planning involved. 6. During the day there were no beach chairs, and the chairs that only had a towel on them stayed for hours without a person or cruise member removing it. 7. The so-called “adults only” whirlpools were over-run with pre-teenagers and teenagers. When we (and another couple) asked a few cruise members to have the children to leave, they refused to tell the kids to evacuate. 8. For the only TWO days we got chairs after 4 PM we were told the towels had to be returned before 7 PM. 9. More often than not, the elevators were incredibly crowded. I am not even referring to attempting to board or disembark. On a daily basis it was a task just to get an elevator and often my husband and I were crowded around several other passengers. 10. We were able to have 3 dinners at specialty restaurants; however, at the complimentary restaurants we had a MINIMUM of a 45 minute wait or had to go later in the evening. 11. At the buffet, it was so difficult to find a table my husband and I took turns standing on line for food. Often, one side of the buffet was closed as well. 12. The bars on the ship were either closed or completely understaffed. Most bars had only 1 bartender and we had to wait 10 minutes or longer for a drink. 13. We were also charged a port tax for the drinks we ordered on the ship while docked. While I understand, now, that this is a law, only 1 waiter informed us. We would do not have a problem paying it; however, we should have been clearly informed. Overall, my husband and I travel to get away from schedules and routines. We want our vacations to be relaxing and stress-free. NCL does not follow their own advertisement of “free-style” and relaxing. We were incredibly disappointed in so many areas. Many of the other passengers we spoke to felt the same way. It’s a shame such a beautiful ship is being run by a company too incompetent to make sure people who have the time and ability to return, do not feel welcomed back. Read Less
