We cruise multiple times a year on NCL and only tried RCCL because of their advertising on their website about having an autism certification and autism friendly ships. In addition to advertising on their webpages, they also sent out a press release to media about this a couple of years ago. New Jersey, where this ship docks and obtains a large percentage of its passengers is the NATIONS largest population of children with autism (1 in 34). Aside from embarkation being a good experience (aside from the 60-70 minute car line getting to the ship because there weren't enough handlers) RCCL and Anthem have zero clue on how to be supportive of the autistic community. If you have a child or children with autism, they will make you feel good about your decision to spend all of this money on a vacation and then when you get on board and are stuck on this boat, you will wish you never booked the vacation. MUSTER DRILL: we inquired the moment we got on the boat at guest services about a drill for autism or a drill later in the day separate. Was told to go to a different muster station and when we arrived, they had no clue about any type of autism muster. My child flipped out and it wasn't until I was crying that someone helped us and I was humiliated in front of passengers who were staring at us as if we had a terrible child. When you get on the you are to go to your cabin where your keys are waiting; we had "ROYAL UP" bid accepted which was another nightmare because they didn't change anything on the boat so we were forced to wait outside our cabin as they tried to sort it out and then I was sent to wait on a long line at guest services to get our keys; took over 8hrs to get our soda cups as they ended up in the cabin we were originally suppose to be in. I went to the bars, guest services, back to the bar and then to guest services several times until I was finally given the cups at 9pm. Our internet packages were also left in the other cabin where the new guests used it and we had to get them kicked off it and issued new passcodes. When we made reservations for dinner they were under someone else's name and we couldn't fix it until halfway through the trip. ALSO because of the cabin changed before the cruise through the ROYAL UP program we also did not receive any information during our cruise including the CRUISE CRITIC MEET AND GREET invitation which we missed!!!! Dinner at the sit down dining rooms were anywhere from 90-120 minutes and that was rushing the staff. Asking for menu items such as chicken fingers that are fried are different in each restaurant and to get simple fried ones you have to beg while staff gets upset. The staff on this boat were not happy; on NCL they are consistent people pleasers always greeting you with a smile; the only people on board with smiles were the cabin attendants. The food on this boat compared to NCL was terrible. The quality of the specialty restaurants was average at best and the buffet NEVER changed; it was the same boring food every single day. The WONDERLAND dinner had chunks of fat in every bite and the Chops Grill filet mignon was gamey and tough... I was soooooo surprised of how terrible the food was; it was cafeteria quality. The Adventure Ocean for children has too many kids with not enough staff. The cruise line had a sale where kids sale free and they didn't appropriately staff their boat; yes, they said they would take an autistic child, but how can you expects 2 staff members to watch 30-40 kids in a room and mix autism in it? It isn't safe for children and definitely not safe to mix autism in the same room; they have a bunch of rooms for different age/ skill level but nothing for autism. They need to have a sensory room or a room dedicated to these guests especially when they run with autism friendly ships, which they are not. They did not have an autism friendly channel or programing on board. Finally, the outdoor walk in wave pool is an accident waiting to happen; when the kids wade in it and lay in it, it isn't until after they have been in it for an hour plus that you find out their skin has been sandpapered off by the bottom. Both of our children were in pain and covered in abrasions after being in this pool; there is zero signage about this. After sending in a letter to RCCL about these issues, they have failed to even acknowledge these issues as well as how our disability rights were not observed. Read Less

We departed out of Bayonne, New Jersey which was within driving distance of our home. We purchased a cruise for my wife and I and 3 kids spread over 3 staterooms. We had a balcony and two adjoining interior cabins across the hall. Our ports of call were to be Port Canaveral (Orlando), Coco Cay (Private Island in Bahamas) and Nassau, Bahamas. 9 days before our cruise was to set sail, Royal Cariibbean pulled one over on us and changed the port from Coco Cay to Miami. Yes Miami as in where half of their cruises depart from. What did Royal do for their passengers? Bumpkis. Nilch, nada, nothing. They told us to go pound sand (on Miami Beach where incidentally Spring Breakers were rioting). I asked about cancelling the cruise and a refund. Sorry you would lose 100% of your money because it's only a week from departure. They claimed the dock was not ready for our ship. Huh? This is your private island, which you 100% own. Your responsibility. 100%. This isn't a case of civil war breaking out, or an impending hurricane, but Royal Caribbean's lack of planning. We the customers suffered. We the customers got insulted when asking for a partial credit or some kind of compensation. BUYER BEWARE! This is our first and last Royal Caribbean Cruise. We have been on Carnival, Celebrity, Disney, SeaBorne and Disney. No more Royal! (Probably no more Carnival at our age either) The worst part is on Coco Cay, where our 17, 16 and 12 year old could have roamed free , had beach activities and had free food and drink. Instead Miami, where it was expensive and so much for a relaxing day where we all had to stick closely together and had no fun. Again Royal did nothing to compensate the difference. As for other aspects... Bar staff was wonderful as they are on every ship. Our room steward was flaky and might have gotten fired halfway through the cruise as I saw security in a neighboring room and they replaced the original steward for someone else. Kids loved the activity directors. Food in main dining rooms was Ponderosa or Golden Corral Levels. Premium dining was wonderful, but also $99 extra per person for 3 meals. One very good show (We Will Rock You). Two shows and a comedian that rivaled a middle school performance. Yikes. So a 2, a 3 a 4 and a 9 out of 10 as far as shows go. Read Less

Only short cruse available to book at the time. Glad it was only 4 day. Made friends with some first time cruisers. ran into them later; talk about being disappointed. Told them not all cruise lines were like this. Arrived at pier at 1pm. joined a wait line as long as the ship, no one greeting, no one with info, had to seek out where we could make show and dinner reservations. Service was hit or miss. some crew good some not, Supposed to leave at 8am. called our color, kept us in line for 11/2 hours asked to cut in line to get off. No reason no excuse made . Made our flight by 20 mins. good thing we were tsa pre. smoky casino, supposed to be separate. Get real thats not possible. lots more poor but Im tired of it and this 2nd class line. At least the entertainment was good. Cirque, beatles. burn the floor all good Girl that ran interactive shows was good. Lounge entertainment, guitar and piano were fantastic. Constant pre cruise emails to bid up to a private area. Had the Ultimate Drink Package. Not everything included. Must be a super ultimate somewhere!!! This ship is like the airlines. Three pounds in a two pound bag. Wont be back Read Less

Have been cruising for over 25 years and love it. NCL's Epic was the most horrible cruise we have ever been on. Waitingfor 40 minutes to get seated at the Teppanyaki restaurant with a reservation. Waited another 30 minutes till waiter takes drink order. Waited another 30 minutes till cook showes up. But that time I had gone to another restaurant and gotten food cause I was ready to faint from hunger. When I got back my boyfriend still hadnt seen a waiter. 45 minute wait at Sheenans to get a table. Waiter did not show up. Citwue de dream show. Table right away but no waiter for 30 minutes. Drinks at bar impossible to get. I am 62 years old and not into pushing. So no bartender would notice me asking for a drink. Last day leaving tg3e ship was a disaster. People pushing in the hallways. 4100 guests were told to leave tge cabin by 8am but were not aloud to get of board. For 3 hours we were pushed in the hallways when tgey announced the gate was changed to deck 5 where tge only way was to use gge escalator. Men were arguing throwing chairs babies crying. After 2 hours we finally saw some staff handing out water yo exhausted guests. We left our room at 7.30am and got of the ship at 10.28am. How do the do it when there is a fire? These were horrible conditions. Horrible Read Less

We choose this cruise as our family vacation for the year. We enjoy beach type vacations and have enjoyed cruises in the past. We choose the Epic because it looked like it had a lot to offer our whole family. Unfortunately, we could not have been more wrong. The ship was severally under staffed. Everything had massive time consuming lines. For example, the boat offered 3 water slides, but they typically only ran 2 at a time because they didn't have enough staff to run them all at the same time. We only saw the rock wall open twice and both times it had huge lines. The climbing tower and trampoline never opened. The 2 small pools were extremely overcrowded. The sprinkler system that was supposed to offer splash pad type of setting was broken. They only had about 15 tubes out for the tube slide, which resulted in another huge line. I watched a teenager pass out waiting for a tube. The cruise medics took more than 30 minutes to respond. This was the 3rd time that I have been on a Norwegian cruise, and the 3rd time that I was disappointingly informed that the sea was too rough to get on the tender boats. It was a beautiful day with very calm waters considering we were on an ocean. This resulted in an overcrowded boat with a insufficient staff and amenities. The staff did not seem too shocked as a few informed me that during the last 5 months, they only made it to the island 3 times. The cruise directer responded by offering a few additional activities, most of which required additional fees. The boat was also under construction and we were not informed that the massive rock wall would be unavailable for our cruise. The drinks seemed to be watered down. I weigh under 140 pounds and did not catch even the slightest buzz after drinking 20 mixed drinks (Miami Vices, BBCs, Mango Melt Downs). I am a lightweight when it comes to drinks and I did not feel any effects from these beverages. Boat departure took 3 hours, seriously 3 hours. We missed our shuttle to the airport and nearly missed flights. Once again the cruise director managed to find a place to let the blame fall; she went with port authorities this time. Although my friends managed to get off much quicker due to dumb luck and had no trouble with port authorities or customs. By the third day much of the boat smelled of septic. The other attractions such as Escape the Big Top and the Circus De Sol la booked very quickly and were nearly impossible to get into. The comedian on board made fun of guests to obtain pity laughs rather than relying on wit and originality. Much of the food on the buffet was cold and repetitive. They encourage hand washing, yet many of their bathroom sinks and soap dispensers would not work. I am very upset that our family wasted our vacation time and money on this horrible experience. We chose this cruise because the port was close to home and we wanted just a short little long weekend trip. We have cruised before with Carnival, but first time on this ship. We had all levels of cruisers from first timers to platinum cruisers. Getting on the ship was excellent. No complaints, but that's the only positive! Could not get drinks at the bar, completely overlooked several times. The food in the main dining room was HORRIBLE! The first night I ordered the flank steak, which wasn't flank steak. and it tasted straight up like chemicals! a mixture of lighter fluid and charcoal is what it tasted like. straight TERRIBLE! And the service was super slow!!! 2 1/2 hour dinner? Nowhere to get to, but too long to wait for dinner. Comedian, some guy on the 3rd night, TERRIBLE! all his jokes bombed. Can't even remember his name. Service on the rest of the boat was mediocre at best. Not as friendly as some of the other cruises I've been on. DeEmbarkment was a NIGHTMARE! 3 hours to get off the boat! HORRIBLE! I would recommend that they take this boat offline for a week or two and give the staff some time to regroup and figure out their lives before cruising out again! Read Less

20-30 minutes for a drink. Never left the ship for their "private island". Called the front desk because there was dry blood on our sheets, we could never get through, it just rang and then a message said everyone was busy, try again later. Eventually had to take sheet from a cart in the hallway. Getting off the ship was horrifying. We needed to be on the 5th floor to get off the ship. We tried to get off the ship early by carrying our own luggage off. Traffic was so backed up that we we're standing in the back of the ship, on the 7th floor stairwell. And they kept calling more groups to get off the ship. I would think just a couple weeks after crushing 2 moorings and damaging the ship, their service would be on point. That was not the case. Drink package would have been worth it if it didn't take 30 minutes to get a drink. Food was good. But I can get good food anywhere. Please do not take a Norwegian cruise line adventure.... Ever.. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Started off from usually getting a bottle of sparkling wine in the stateroom since I’m a rewards member.. no bottle. When I asked why they said it was too short of cruise for one. Next they had us trapped on the ship the whole time since they claimed at one of two ports the waters were too rough to tender (they were just as calm the day before we were at port) they did nothing for us! They easily could have rerouted us or asked us to wait a few hours before the waters were up to their standards. They got on the intercom and said how they planned a bunch of new activities to make up for it(yeah right) I had a first time cruiser with me as well and you can imagine his first impression! He never wants to cruise again! We felt so trapped with no where to go! The food was ok but if you wanted a drink at dinner forget about it! I had to wait until I almost had my dinner before a drink even showed up! If I wanted another I had to order as soon as the first one arrived. One last thing is our room attendant was very nice but when we would leave and move the thing to “make up cabin” on 2 different occasions we came back to it on “do not disturb” and an unmade cabin and no fresh towels- I had to track someone down for fresh towels. (Probably some kids in the hall) but they should only have these buttons available from inside the stateroom so no one can change it. We are paying a service fee for what? I made my own bed 2nd. Overall I had a horrible experience I’m really not sure if I will cruise Norwegian again.... it was definitely an EPIC FAIL Read Less
