After several enjoyable Cruises with Carnival we chose to go with Princess Cruises from Sydney 13nights to New Zealand, we were told Carnival was a 3 star cruise line and Princess was a 4 star cruise. The stateroom was awful. The bed was as hard as a rock, and the bathroom too small for me at 6'4". The TV didn't work. The soap dispenser is a tube you have to squeeze, which was painful with my arthritic thumbs. The wi-fi is not free and costs A$30 for the week. Even a grubby motel will give you free wi-fi. Got what we thought was a good deal & really liked the itinerary. Unfortunately the times in port were very restricting for example we didn’t get ashore in Napier until 5.30 pm when most everything was closed & only had 90 minutes there. My cruise was a surprise arranged by my friend. I was amazed. Arriving we were greeted by friendly porters and our suitcases were taken to our booked cabins. Just returned from Viking Orion- Australia and New Zealand, plus a pre-cruise to Cairns. Over all our trip was wonderful. We were so blessed with good weather and mostly calm seas. Our flights took us from KC to Dallas, to Sydney. Then to Cairns for our pre-cruise. We have been on 2 Viking River Cruises, but never an Ocean Cruise, so we chose to try our first Ocean Cruise with Viking because of their reputation for excellence and we wanted a small ship experience.
