5 members of my family went on the cruise in Cambodia, 3 generations. From the start to the finish everything was seamless and thoughtful, especially on my daughter's birthday. The crew were exceptional and the daily excursions very enjoyable, with options for all ages and fitness levels. The dining varied daily and there were western options available. The rooms were a generous size and we had four interconnecting rooms, which allowed privacy as well as a sense of togetherness for the whole family. Each night we had a different place for drinks and sometimes dinner, some activities couldn't go ahead sadly due to weather, I would have loved the sundowner drinks on the riverside. I would highly recommend Aqua Mekong to anyone wanting to immerse themselves in a new culture, with luxury every day. Every bit of it was excellent, the last night a highlight, as well as watching the World Cup Soccer final with some of the crew. Read Less

Decided on an Asian cruise this time. Scenic provided a great ship, wonderful staff, top guides and a second to none tour experience. On top of this our Tour Director Hoan was exceptional. Our group provided some challenges to Hoan but he overcame these easily and with charm. He is definitely an asset to the Scenic organisation. We particularly loved the ship, the Park Hyatt hotels in Siem Reap and Saigon, a brilliant Gala Dinner at a temple near Siem Reap, the night time Tuk Tuk tour of Pnom Penh with Mr G ( Geert) , the Phare Circus and ,of course, the majestic Angkor Wat. Everywhere we went the food and hospitality was superb, especially on the Scenic Spirit. We have not thought ourselves the cruising type but having done Amsterdam to Budapest with Scenic and now Siem Reap to Saigon with Scenic we just may just consider another cruise. Perhaps a French cruise will be in order. Read Less

I loved this so much, I want to do one they offer in a different location. The website really does not sell the boat or the experience. The boat is beautiful, about 8 years old and well maintained. Everything feels luxurious. I was travelling in low season, so there were only 23 guests (out of total 52) and 40 staff! The food was exceptional (and safe!) - and local to where we were travelling. The staff were always prepared to make changes to whatever you wanted, however. House wine was served foc with meals - I didn’t much like it, so ordered a bottle to suit my choice. But if you were happy with local wine/beer, you are in luck! Good cocktail menu in the bar - I had mango daiquiri. Chop one fresh mango, add 2 shots bacardi, blitz... and serve! There is a lovely small pool on deck - perfect for cooling off in. And the spa had two full-time therapists with a reasonably sized menu, but at AMAZING value. Recommended! The best bit about this cruise are the curated expeditions - all included in the cost. We got to see so much about the real lives and culture of the locals, going to their homes, trying their food, seeing their way of life, travelling the way they do (ox cart, cyclo, tuktuk!) What they don’t tell you, and should, is that you are being followed by a photographer who is recording everything - and you get a FREE CD at the end with all your memories! Bargain! There is free WIFI on board, BUT it is very poor in places, so be warned. Drove me mad. If you need WIFI to survive, buy a sim in both Cambodia and Vietnam - won’t cost you much, and will save your sanity. In Phnom Penh there was a lecture from a University lecturer. Go. He is highly entertaining, and very interesting, on modern Cambodian history. Sounds dry... but one of the highlights. One of the lowlights (in low season) is the transfer from Siem Reap to the port by bus - which took us c. 4 1/2 hours. Yes, it’s boring (there is a comfort break). But the coach is great, and there is WIFI!!! So psyche yourself up and go with the flow... I would suggest not a cruise for kids - no entertainment, all cutural stuff. Also not for those who are less able - as you will be leaping on/off moving boats, in and out of awkward vehicles etc. If mobility is an issue, you don’t like stairs, one to avoid. I went as a single female traveler (age 50) and loved it. Felt completely safe at all times. The other guests were really friendly - left me alone when I wanted it, chatted when I didn’t. I was the only Brit on board - the majority Aussie, with a sprinkling of US, Swedish, Spanish. I regularly just sat on the deck - dozing, reading, listening to music via headphones, just watching the scenery drift past. Incredibly relaxing. In fact, perfect and romantic for a honeymoon?..... This exceeded all my expectations. Read Less

We chose this cruise specifically for the opportunity to visit the temples of Siem Reap but also to learn more about the people of Cambodia, their bloody history, culture and their cuisine. We particularly wanted to experience River Cruising in Asia in a new ship with a fantastic passenger/crew ratio withe space Scenic Spirit seemed to offer. The cruise scored almost a perfect score as we did not make use of the gym or spa. The accomodation was amazingingly spacious with the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. The ability to to have a real balcony was amazing and the crew superb. Our names and preferences in dining and service wereknown within days of boarding. The Chef is a genius - always coming up with the taste of the local cuisine with only the freshest of foods. Entertainment consisted of local groups of school children coming on board to perform Lion Dances and other entertainments on the large Sun Deck. The highlight of the tour was the Gala Dinner outside the Kravan Hindu temple dating back to the 10th Century with its magnificent Dances, Table decorations and Gourmet food. Our cruise Director Duc To was friendly, efficient, and when my wife became ill in Siem Reap compassionate and caring. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had never been to China and having cruised with Viking before it was a no brainer. Doubtful that we would ever consider any other Cruise Line. The food and service on board the Viking Emerald was excellent, as were the on shore excursions. Our favorite shore excursion was the school visit, a surprise because neither of us are what you would call children people. Our tour began in Shanghai and ended in Hong Kong. The weather cooperated wonderfully, light sprinkles in Shanghai And a 15 minute down pour on Victoria peak in Hong Kong which the local guide told us would happen. Of the cities we visited Guilin was our favorite, we thought it was quite beautiful.. The cruise on the River Li was spectacular. The only complaint would be we were tired of Chinese buffets, but we were in China. Our tour guide Tom was with us from Shanghai and said good bye in Hong Kong. He was excellent. Read Less

Viking did their typical great job of organizing and running a three week Roof of the World visit to China. Can't really complain about anything. The food was great. The guide we had (for the entire duration of the trip) was excellent and really worked at getting all the guests to talk to each other. The food on board was very good. You had the choice of Chinese or non-Chinese food which helped alot. Food on the land portion was also very good. The hotels were all 4 or 5 star and mostly had buffets which allowed you to choose again from local foods or more standard European/American offerings. The cabin on board was ok but not stellar. Internet while supplied was virtually useless. The guide offered a mild apology in that Viking does not own the ship. They will be bringing their own boat online in a year or two. As a side note, weather was very hot. Consider a cruise a month or so earlier. Read Less

An amazing experience that combines fun, engaging activities (bike, kayak, skip rides and walks) with introductions to culture, history, and local customs. The staff is fabulous and attentive to everyone's needs - beyond belief: They address you by name, respond to your wishes promptly and share of themselves in lectures, tours, and conversation to give you an authentic experience with real people. The food is an awesome combination of local and (to us) new and exciting flavors - and also familiar fare, but all exquisite and fresh and beautifully presented - in various settings (inside and outdoors). Wine and other drinks were of very good quality and generously provided. Accommodations are a dream for a cruise ship: with floor to ceiling windows and a balcony (in our case), we enjoyed the spacious room (and bathroom with two sinks!!) and the views from the first glimpse in the morning in our very comfortable bed. The boat is immaculate, and cleaning service (incl. free laundry service) is seemingly instantaneous. We picked shoulder season (mid-June) which was perfect: lower price, great weather, and the staff outnumbered the guests 2:1. It is well worth to save up for this trip - it was our second with Aqua Expeditions - the Aqua Amazon experience was our first, and equally rewarding. Read Less

The Roof of the World tour is a very good tour to see the wide expanse of China. You hit all the high points with a Yangtze cruise in between two land portions. Food was excellent with very good Chinese selections from each area as well as Western. But remember that this is a Chinese visit so don't expect Western fare at all meals by any means. Yangtze cruise was good but not great. With the exception of the three gorges, the majority of the river is pretty boring. City visits are interesting but again not wonderful along the river. The visit to the Great Wall and Xian (terra cotta soldiers) was very good. Tibet was unexpectedly great. I should mention that the guide on the tour was extraordinary. If you're prone to altitude sickness or not sure, make sure you bring some high altitude meds to take. 4 people out of about 50 ended up being very sick. Those that took meds had no problems in Tibet. Read Less

Just knowing that someone would be 'holding our hands' throughout the entire trip changed my attitude about traveling in China. After all, there were so many sights - the pandas, the Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors - that I have always wanted to see in person, but the thought of traveling in such a large foreign country - different language, food, customs - was daunting. Viking offered an attractive opportunity for my husband and me to realize this dream, so we jumped on it. Because it was such a comprehensive overview of China we really don't feel a need to return. However, it was a marvelous experience and the cruise portion was definitely a highlight. The food was delicious, the stateroom was more than adequate, the cultural talks were excellent, the staff was attentive and delightful, the entertainment was extremely well done -- by the young people in the staff, no less! -- and the excursions were all worthwhile. No complaints! Oh, and the views from the ship - a photographer's delight! We didn't really spend any time lounging on our veranda, but it was a great place to stand to take pictures! Read Less

We always wanted to see China and Viking provided an excellent trip all around. Our guide, Michael was personable, very helpful and made our trip very comfortable. He knew all the details about our travels and made them seamless. We saw and experienced so many beautiful sights; each one more impressive and vast than the last. We ate fabulous Chinese food each day and tasted the various local cuisines. It was a three week trip including a 7 night river cruise on the Yangsee River. The hotels in every city were absolutely top grade; very elegant and the ship was very nice as well. We were in a group with our guide for the entire trip which was very comforting; this made the trip so much better. The local guides in each city were knowledgeable and we learned so much about the culture and different areas of China. It was a trip of a lifetime and we highly recommend this to all. It was a very busy trip with alot of travel; 4 flights and the bullet train inside China; but well worth it in order to see so many beautiful sights. We have wonderful memories and fantastic pictures. Thanks Viking and Guide, Michael. The lectures and entertainment onboard ship was top notch. We look forward to our next adventure with Viking Cruises. Read Less

The opportunity to go on this Scenic Cruise presented it self. It was a destination I had not thought of doing. It was not on my bucket list as they say. Too date ,this has been the most extraordinary cruise I have taken. Scenic is a first class river cruise company. I was so impressed with the ship accommodations. The room was a deluxe ocean view balcony the bed faced the water. The bed was so comfortable, and adjustable. The service from all who worked on board made us feel very welcomed and they where genuinely interested in making sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast ( you could order eggs benedict and other things) and lunches were buffet style everything was fresh and plentiful. Dinner was a set menu with choices of Cambodian foods as well. The most impressive and memorable where the tours Scenic had in store for us. The tour guides really made this trip for us. Mao and Lovy loved sharing about their country Cambodia. They work for Scenic and introduced us to other local guides to give us an in depth look at different locations. Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and the largest silk producer in Cambodia. We had so much fun riding in the tuk tuks and an ox cart! Everything was included in this cruise and when I got off the boat I did not have any bill! Post stay in Siem Reap just topped everything off. The Hotel Park Hyatt was above in service as well! Read Less

While we had twice been to Beijing on business, and had done some sightseeing while there, this was our first trip to China for the purposes of travel only. The entire program was under the direction of Viking Cruises and they more than exceeded their reputation for excellence. There were several groups of travelers in the itinerary, none larger than 30 persons, each with a tour guide. Our guide, Richard, was above every expectation in all respects. The hotels were all excellent, and one, the Four Seasons in Shanghai, was one of the best in which we have ever stayed. The well thought out programs were somewhat strenuous, but we all managed to keep up. There were three nights in Beijing, two nights in Xian, which included a viewing to the Terracotta Warriors, three nights in Lhasa, and then, after a flight to Chongqing, five nights on the Viking Emerald with interesting tours at every port on the Yangtze river. Finally, we spent two nights in Shanghai. As an example of thoughtful planning on Richard's part, we were taken to the superb Shanghai museum on arrival in Shanghai rather than squeezing in a visit in an already crowded schedule the following day. This is not a cruise for the fainthearted, but if one is willing to make the effort and try the different foods, it is a great trip. incidentally, the ship is leased, not owned by Viking, and it is very good, but not as good as if they were to have built, owned and maintained the vessel. That is prohibited by the government because of the use of the Yangtze as a major commercial artery in China. Read Less

My husband & I have always wanted to go to China. What better way than on a Cruise. We saw do much in a short amount of time. The first night we stayed at the Ritz-Carlton. This was a bonus and our meals were included. The next day we boarded the Ship. We were on the second floor which was excellent as the main desk was on this floor and also the Dinning room. We saw the Oriental Pearl Tower on the Bund River and from there went to a Mall and saw how they made Silk Oriental Carpets and also amazing pictures done by had in silk. From there we went to Old Shanghai to the Yu Yuan Garden. The weather turned bad and it rained very hard. It is hard to enjoy something when you are wet and cold. It was lovely though. We then went to a lovely Restaurant for a traditional Chinese meal. There are usually 8 to 10 people around a round table. From the Restaurant we then went to see an Acrobatic Troupe. They were simply amazing. All this took place in one day. We were very tired and went to bed so we would be ready for a full day coming up. We went to We did have 2 Tours cancelled as it was a weekend and they weren't available. This was disappointing, however, Viking made up for it and replaced them. I would say though that one replacement was a Science Museum and there was know one to explain what we were seeing. There was a local orchestra brought in in the evening and they played many different instruments that we have never heard. The next day we went to Jingzhou Ancient City. Very interesting and lots of stairs. The next morning we went to the Three Gorges and through the locks to the Three Gorges Dam. Believe it or not they have an outdoor Escalator to take you to the top. It was the largest dam we have ever seen. The next day we went to the Yangtze tributary and boarded a Sampan. This was really a nice way to see the Giver. We learned that many years ago people were buried on the side of the mountain and you could see one that is still in good shape. You have to be fast though to take a picture as you are in a moving boat. In Shibaozhai we went to a Temple. We had to climb 12 stories to get to this. You had better be fit for this trip as there were many stairs to climb on every excursion. We got off the ship one day and really had to climb a lot of stairs to get to the top of a large hill and there was a large market. Everyone is trying to sell you something. We disembarked in Chongging. I will say that the staff on the Ship were excellent and the Restaurant was lovely. The food was really good and the layout of the tables again was nice. At least 8 to a table. What a good way to get to meet people. As you can tell, there were lots of activities and you were glad when bedtime arrived. If you want to be on the go and see wonderful sights that you won't experience again this is the trip for you. Our fitness and recreation was not on board but every time we left the ship. Read Less

First, our neighbors took this cruise several years ago and recommended it to us...we were extremely happy they did! Our guide was most informative and stayed with us the entire trip. Several times there was a change in program for one reason or another, (sometimes through no fault of Viking), but they always tried to substitute with equal value. The Sampan ride through the Lesser Three Gorges was breathtaking. For the region of China we toured, I don't think we missed much.. Three Gorges Dam; pandas in Chongqing; Terra Cotta soldiers in Xian; the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Hutong rickshaw ride and Kung Fu show in Beijing. Our state room was spacious with a balcony. Lots of river traffic on the Yangtze made for interesting scenery. The meals were delicious..not being an adventureous eater, I always found Western food on the ship. You could have had filet mignon every night! Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Remembered your name and drink preferences. They like to try out there English.. On the land portion, the hotels were all five star accommodations. The food was, for the most part, Eastern, served buffet style at your table with a wide variety. All in all, a very enjoyable trip and look forward to our second river cruise in the future. Read Less

It was by chance that my wife found the Strand advert and decided to join as we’ve never been on a cruise before. We had no idea what to expect but the local knowledge does indicate that the name “Strand” is a premier name. From the outset, we were welcomed warmly and on joining the ship , we felt the class and the luxury setting in. The ship is well refurbished with elegant colonial interiors mixed with modern technology. The cabins were on two floors and ours , the Strand Cabin was comfortably spacious for two with sliding doors to experience the outside environment. Plenty of light through the floor to ceiling glass doors and good air conditioning. The bathroom was well appointed and had very high standard amenities. There were a few occasions of power outage but didn’t take long to restore. The chef , the catering manager Bart and the catering department were excellent providing us with fantastic meals throughout the trip and waiting staff gave us a superb service seeing to all the needs of the guests . The Strand Restaurant and the Sarkies Bar were spacious, comfortable and had a relaxing feel. Cabin attendants did a good job and the turn down service in the evenings always had a little surprise where we would be left with an unexpected present relating to the activities of the day, which was a very thoughtful touch . The programmes were always busy and well planned. The tours were designed to allow the guests to explore the area and also for the local community to benefit from the visitors. This kind of symbiosis is always there in tourism but it was more evident here as The Strand would provide electricity to the village while in dock and also appointing young locals to get jobs on the cruise. The heat in summertime can be intense and could be uncomfortable for some on these tours. The on board activities were a credit to the cruise manager Neville Joseph who did a fantastic job of providing us with information and entertainment and allowing the guests to taste the wit, humour ,colour and culture of the country. The captain and his team deserves a mention too as he had to pilot the ship through pretty shallow sections of the Ayeyawaddy River which wasn’t very easy in summer time. My wife and I had a wonderful experience on the Strand Cruise from Mandalay to Bagan and would thoroughly recommend to those interested in such a voyage. Read Less

My wife and I are used to travel worldwide and have had the chance to enjoy remarkable stays in high end hotels or resort but what the Strand has achieved with this unique cruise tops it all! The ship itself is brand new and features and elegant and discreet decoration which immediately creates a cocoon of understated luxury and class We were hosted in a very nice suite located at the bow and featuring a terrace. the room was also discreetly decorated in a colonial spirit and we had the feeling we were the only one on board. The entire staff, led by Barthelemy, is extremely professional and smiling whilst remaining discreet, I was actually impressed by their work and how they contribute to the entire experience. Bilou, the entertainer on board , is also very knowledgeable and we had the pleasure to have him give us some insight on Burmese culture as well as visit a very local market in Baggan which was not included in the lists of planned visits. The sites visits were perfectly planned and each time we had a local guide joining us to explain the history behind each landmark we were visiting, everything handled seamlessly. From breakfast to dinner only excellent products were served and the Thai chef did a very good job. The dinner on the river bank was so romantic and unexpected, just a piece of magic in the silence of the river. A special thanks to the bar staff which fixes great drinks! What a bliss to sip a delicate cocktail, watching the sunset whilst the wild river banks slowly pass by, feeling the silky and warm caress of the air on your skin, thinking about the visits of the day. Our cruise was a truly memorable experience ! The only downside for us was that, to our great surprise, a number of younger kids were part of the cruise, they were adorable but I would have preferred to be with adults only as this kind of holiday is not really the family style. This was my first ever cruise so I have nothing to compare it to, but I have travelled extensively in India and Asia so I know what geninue hospitality and welcome feels like and the crew on MV Mahabaahu delivered it in full. The ship itself is small compared to the large ocean cruisers or even those plying the European rivers, but it did make the cruise seem more intimate (there were only 16 guests on board for the 5 nights we were onboard). The excursions were well arranged and both fun and educational. The highlight of which has to be the elephant back, jeep and river safaris within the Kaziranga National Park - well worth the early morning start, and although we didn't spot any tigers, the elephants, buffalo, one horned rhino were in ample supply, with the occassional sighting of river dolphins throughout the trip. The food onboard was excellent with a great choice for breakfast and lunch, and a themed selection each evening (choice of Indian or continental and of vegetarian or non veg). After each shore excursion our shoes were collected, cleaned and returned to our rooms, whilst we enjoyed cold towels and delicious ginger drink. In fact for me it wss the little things that made the difference, such as being given bottled water, in a woven holder, when going ashore, or the fact the crew were prepared with umbrellas and plastic coats (which you wouldnt win any fashion parade but did the job) when the rain came in. There was plenty to do when cruising but mostly I watched the world go buy, enjoying Assam tea, and hoping that I might just glimpse that elusive tiger (the closest I eventually got was seeing tiger foot prints along one of the deserted river Islands we had moored to for a bonfire and evening drinks and nibbles. All in all a wonderful experience and can't wait to find an excuse to return. Read Less

The cruise only package we book ie: not taking the add on's from AMAWATERWAYS as in pre and post cruise . However we had booked online direct with both the Sofitel hotels for 2 days prior and post cruise and still coming out more cost effective than the add on prices. The pre cruise set up was perfect and cruise manager Thaui was excellent from the first minute we met. Effortless pre cruise info ( bags out in hallway of hotel re identify and load all sorted by staffing) The 6 hour transfer with two one hour stops did fly by with good enroute info and stops and markets to turn ones stomach all part of the experience. The " we are all family " Ama Waterways concept works well . From the start of the transfer to the end of day 5 each group had its Cambodian guide our blue group guide was Tek Leng who was exceptional. Due to a issue in the dinning room the welcome on board drinks and first night dinner was a bit all over the show as the "the paint had not dried" but Markus the Cruise director was in control in perfect Austrian style. All tours and excursions being included in your price made life a lot easier as the selection of tours is well and truly thought through and tailor made to a variety of abilities . However this cruise is not for people who cannot rise above a level 2 in walking and exertion. My 2 stand out excursions of the 14 we did was the Ox cart ride and Buddhist monastery visit and blessing along with the oknhatey school visit in Cambodia. The meals on board where fantastic , only issue was that a Hamburger is more meatloaf or frikadel than beef burger :-)) however the traditional foods and service in the Mekong Restaurant was outstanding and a shout out to our waiters, Dara and Venestra . We did do the chefs table restaurant which is situated aft on the ship with great views and furnishings. However our table of 8 all felt we were slightly rushed and limitations on the wines ( which never altered by meal course, which is the norm) Service was not up to the levels in the main restaurant . The Bar service with a smile and enthusiasm and happiness from Det and Soheap where contagious in a good way. We where very lucky to have the Vice President Kristin Karst on board as she said she only visits once a year. A fantastic lady who made the effort everyday and night to interact in both excursions and meals and entertainment. Of course surrounded by yes men who clearly looked out of place amongst the crew. The overall entertainment and humour took a dive on board hence my very low score in this area. On day 4 Markus the Cruise director and glue to the Amwaterway family was rushed to hospital with suspected dengue fever and thus never completed the cruise . However we did have Thaui who stepped up and tried his best . The other downside was the influx of 18 UK travel agents for the last 3 days who where kept in a separate group for excursions but half of them clearly never fitted into the dynamic that had been created amongst the 90 paying passengers. This was defiantly a once in a lifetime destination, however as I said to Kritin Karst if they got the Amazon and Myanmar programmes sorted out we will definitely book with them again for those . The AmaDara is a lovely well structured ,planned , crewed and managed ship one not to miss. Read Less

The ship is small but beautifully appointed with a large dining room, large bar and lounge area, fitness room, beauty facilities and lots of outdoor space. Don't bother booking a higher rated cabin, they will upgrade you as you get on board for a fraction of the price. The cabins were well appointed. The staff couldn't be more helpful, cleanliness and hygiene were paramount, the food was plentiful although fixed to one-hour mealtimes as well as a bit bland at times and modified for Westerners but that was to be expected. Excursions were excellent. Dr Lee, on- board Chinese doctor fixed a leg problem that I have had for months! It was a really fantastic trip, an intimate ship and highly recommended. Read Less

As a solo traveller i had to book this 12 months in advance to only pay 50% single supplement. This 14 night holiday holiday started with 2 nights in a fantastic hotel in Shanghai, a trip around Shanghai then the cruise followed by 1 night in Xian and 3 nights ( again in excellent hotels) in Beijing. It involved 3 internal flights but we were escorted by Viking tour guides throughout the airport stress. It was a fantastic holiday and I got to see all the places one would want to see:- Shanghai, Three Gorges, Goddess stream, Chonqing zoo (including pandas), Terra Cotta warriors, rickshaw excursion, the Great Wall, Tiananmen square and the Forbidden City. The hotels were all fantastic, the ship was good but not as quite as good as the hotels. The food on board ship and at hotels (choice of western and Chinese) was excellent but the "local restaurants " we went to when on excursions were not of such a high standard (e.g airport buffet) and the food was quite bland and lacked variety e.g we would be served the same food at lunch and at dinner if at restaurants! It was full on with lots of walking, steps and steep places and there was very little time to rest, relax and recover with only 2 hours maximum on return from excursions before dinner, bed and early starts in the morning. When disembarking from the ship in bad weather there were not enough people to help with hand luggage or safety when crossing bridges from the ship. I would highly recommend but you need to be fit and you will get fitter! Read Less

We celebrated our 50th with Viking and they took care of us royally. We liked it so much we may take that same cruise again for our 55th. We are impressed with Viking and will travel again with them. We've done one of the European cruises with them and that was also very much a delight. Thank you Viking! Our guide was awesome, I had some medical issues just before we were to leave and he took such good care of the group and made sure that the issues that almost kept us from taking this trip were taken care of in the most discreet ways that no one else knew that I even had any problems. I don't know how that could have been done even if I were home in the US. A special thanks to IOWA.Our accommodations were so nice and those that tended our room were helpful and so professional. The Dining both on board and on our excursions were just above anything we could have hoped for. The food choices, wine pairing and the wait staff( well I wanted to take some them home with us). The excursions were so unbelievable, that one of our traveling companions took notes and could actually write a book. Educational, enlightening, and awe-inspiring. We were just saying today we may take the same cruise again. In all of the areas that are one would give the highest of ranking or stars there was only one that I felt could be added to, the Fitness area. But that is my thing, trying to keep off extra weight when the food is so..so great. Ray and I recommend Viking and their River Cruises highly and we hope to take an ocean cruise with them next year. We have taken other ocean cruises and they were good, but we feel certain that Viking will surpass. Much Aloha, Read Less

This cruise of the Irrawaddy in Myanmar was mind blowing amazing! First of all the setting of such a beautiful untouched country that few people have seen was very cool. This was my third river cruise and second scenic cruise. But after this experience my husband and I are scenic for life. First of all the people have working for them are first rate! From the captain down to the people who clean your room. Always a smile and impeccable service! Food was out of this world. Room always clean. All tours well thought out. It was a all Aussie crowd except for us, we were the only Americans. Which is fine by me Aussies tend to be more fun than most Americans and brits. This is a fun adventurous tour and it’s a hot county so keep that in mind. But there were some people I meet on this trip on the crew that were real stand outs. First of all we were broken into two groups each with their own tour guide. Both were lovely women. But owners Susan was unbelievable! Every one in the “Susan Group” would talk about how good she was every night over drinks. Smart, witting, gracious so informative! The girl is gorgeous but that not what shines about her it’s her personality. I really hope Scenic knows what true gem they have with her and book her as much as they can! Chentel was the hotel manager very nice and VERY GOOD at her job. This is a woman who gets thinks done. Best hotel manager I have every had and I’ve been around the world about 5 times now, very good! I also want to mention Zin I the bar he served the drinks in the bar. A young man who gets service and was impeccable at all times. We loved him. Such a great trip we can’t wait to cruise with them again! Scenic sets the standard for river cruising. Read Less

Always wanted to visit China and found the Viking trip highlighted everything we wanted to see without having to make our own arrangements to get to the different places. Everything was very well organized and the staff were excellent, our tour guide was fabulous and gave really interesting information about the places we visited. It was a remarkable experience! The trip began in Bejing with visits to Tiananmen Square, the forbidden city and the Great Wall. Transportation to and from these places was very well coordinated. Air transfer to Xian was very easy. The terra cotta warriors, enamel factory and Tang Dynasty dinner and show were included in that transfer. All were great! From there we took a plane to Chongquin to embark on the river cruise part of the trip. There was plenty to see and do, once on board, and the ship was beautiful. The staff were very attentive and nice, the food was great and the educational offerings were very interesting. If you wanted down time there was space for that and also areas to Socialize. There were several interesting stops in places near the river. The river cruise ended in Wuhan and continued to Shanghai. Both of those places were beautiful and all of our accommodations were top rate. A trio of a life time. Read Less
