We just spent the past week celebrating a friends milestone birthday on board the Aqua Mekong. It was faultless. The crew went above and beyond in every regard. The activities each day were so well organised with a great variety - cycling, walking, kayaking, cultural tours, market tours, etc. Embarking and disembarking each day was smooth without any issues. If you wanted to relax on board, you had the choice of one of the decks, the pool , the media room, the spa or the gym. Food was delicious - both traditional and western, and if you wanted something specific, the chef was always happy to oblige. Cabins were so spacious and so comfortable. Noise level was minimal. I would highly recommend for anyone wanting to experience the culture of two beautiful countries on a ship which is both spacious and intimate and be completely spoilt by the most gorgeous crew. Perfect for both adults and kids. Read Less

Without a doubt the best way to travel through and see the amazing state of Assam. The constantly changing views of the mighty Brahmaputra river and eastern Himalayan backdrop will take your breath away. The excursions provided just the right amount of history and culture led by our knowledgeable, enthusiastic and personal guides from amongst the cruise staff. For us, the highlight was Kaziranga National Park. Boat, elephant and jeep safaris provided ample opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the landscape and wildlife. Time on board was delight with lots of options in terms of areas in which to relax and staff to spoil you. The cabins are extremely well equipped, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The showers are powerful and hot! We enjoyed some of the best food we have ever had. I was inspired to take up eating desserts! Amazing regional Indian and Continental options were available at every meal. The sailing and transfers on the tenders were smooth throughout. We cannot recommend this experience enough. Do not miss it. Read Less

To sail in Assam down the wide and wonderful Brahmaputra at sunset is a magic like no other. Balm for the soul. The antithesis of city living . The whole thing was a treat: the empty beauty of this ever changing riverscape as well as the grace and aimiability of these resourceful village tribes people, constantly made aware of the bounty of nature - and its opposite, the very real threat of destruction specifically via monsoon and land erosion. Hardworking people - a privilege to meet them all - and yes, the jute factory too was an experience in harsh reality. Dickensian. Our eyes opened and interest stimulated. We stopped too for the Khaziranga National Park - getting up so early to get there, seeing the kids on their way to school at 6am - seriously. As well as all manner of animals ( for instance the incongruous looking Indian one horned rhino... seeing is believing), the park was teeming with birds. I can normally never distinguish them on the trees, but with the aid of a patient guide and excellent binoculars hired from our boat - I saw a myriad of beautiful birds. ...and back on board - a hot towel, a drink , all outdoor shoes cleaned and promptly delivered back to cabin. Great laundry service. and the food was superb as well as lavish- both Indian , which was irresistible, and good European style food too - something for everyone. The trip was worth it for the food alone! Too, we enjoyed our wonderful host , Neena, whose high standards are reflected everywhere, particularly in the friendly and helpful staff. Oh - and before I go - the best thing, don't miss it - yog (!) on deck 8 am. with Neena - most enjoyable and you don't even need to be fit to do it ! Thank you for the experience of another world.- and one final word - you will see the chart below, the cabin was average, but it was fine with a good shower, and all efficiently cleaned - don't let this rating put you off a splendid trip Read Less

We booked the Scenic Luxury Mekong and Temple Discovery Cruise, which started with a flight from the UK to Vietnam, a night at The Intercontinental Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City and a few hours to explore Saigon (HCMC) before meeting the rest of the group, a set lunch at a typical Vietnamese restaurant in the city and then a couple of hours coach journey (including a comfort stop) to the embarkation port at My Tho. The following seven days were spent on the Scenic Spirit. We loved every minute of the cruise. The ship was spacious and at times we often had the pool area or the upper deck to ourselves. The restaurant and bar areas were very comfortable and all the meals and drinks were to a very high standard. Buffet breakfast and lunches but A La Carte most evenings. We chose to sit with different people most nights and found everyone to be very friendly. Good choice of drinks and cocktails both in the bars and via butler service to our cabin or in minibar. Nothing to pay extra for, except spa treatments and souvenirs from the on-board gift shop plus the Cambodian Visa charge. The on-board staff were very friendly and the service level is top class, We always felt very well looked after both on the ship and whilst on excursions. The Tour Directors and Tour Guides were all great, very knowledgeable and friendly and happy to answer all questions.Thank you primarily to Toan, Tour Director for our group. We enjoyed all the varied excursions and activities (too many to review individually) and tried to do everything that was on offer. Not a great deal of time for relaxing, but just about enough to fit in a few swims, Spa visit etc, but never got around to reading a book on this holiday! The Scenic Spirit is smart and very clean. Hygiene standards are very high. Passengers are expected and encouraged to use hygienic hand gels before every meal and when returning to the ship after each excursion. The chef, very proudly shows off his kitchen and explains about the sources of the food served at the weekly Kitchen visit. Early evening pre-dinner port talks are informative and overseen by the German Hotel Manager, who has a good sense of humour. Entertainment on board was good, often local dance groups but also films, quiz, party night around the pool. In Phnom Penh, we were all given a night tour by Tuk Tuk after dinner, which was good fun. After the 7 night cruise, we were driven by coach to Siem Reap (with various interesting stops en route including lunch at a lovely restaurant and we spent a further 3 days and nights based with the group at the beautiful Park Hyatt Hotel, visiting the local sights including Angkor Wat and Tonle Sap lake. The final gala night at a small temple was simply magnificent and a fitting end to a magnificent tour. We travelled at the end of November and this appeared to be a great time to do this trip, no rain and good water levels. Read Less

Southeast Asia is a culturally rich destination. The excursions were well selected to give us a very good encounter with the people in the small villages along the Mekong River, and to meet with them to learn about their daily lives. We were touched by the generosity and hospitality of the many people whom we met-although many have lived through very difficult times, they were happy to share their stories with us. The local guides were also very well chosen. Each of them were knowledgeable and able to explain the history that has shaped current life in their countries. Aboard the Harmony, the staff quickly learned our names, and called us by name. There are only about 75 guests on the boat, which was a really nice number to be a part of. The boat itself is quite new and very nicely decorated. We enjoyed the local entertainment on the beautiful upper deck under the stars. The food was excellent-always a nice selection of choices on the menu, and although the breakfasts and lunches are a mix of buffet and made to order, the buffet dishes were small and frequently changed out, so it felt very clean and tidy.my husband has a few food allergies, and the staff were very willing and able to accommodate his needs. We have been on eight Pandaw cruises so far and are trying to do a river cruise alternately with ocean cruises. Pandaw is pioneering cruises to places where no one else goes and that’s my kind of stuff: I‘m sick and tired of the run-of-the mill touristic „offerings“ that are the same with all operators on the same routes. This is where Pandaw delivers, also in Vietnam. The cruise starts at Halong Bay, which has been hugely commercialized over the last few years. Already here Pandaw did a clever thing: By setting a route that bypasses the masses. Going up the Red River and the Black River gives an insight into true Vietnam. The day going through the vast harbour area of Haiphong might be a bit boring and the widespread dredging in the rivers, which will ultimately lead to erosion and extinction of river-life, saddening. The cultural events and the multitude of artisans visited on the shore excursions were just great. On board there was the typical Pandaw offering: Breakfast and Lunch buffets with table service for dinners. A good choice of western and local dishes and all with attentive service. The cabins on Pandaw, although called „state rooms“ are in fact cabins as you would have had them in colonial times, think „Teak and Brass“. Read Less

A wonderful, unique opportunity to explore river life in India. The company covers every tiny detail to ensure enjoyment, right from the off. They meet you and allocate a car to share for trips, just three or four to a car. The cabins are comfy and well kitted out. Water is plentiful and your personal canister handed out for all tours. The food is varied and delicious, covering a variety of cuisines in India, plus a milder continental option for main course. The catering staff will do anything for you, and are delightful. The onboard naturalist/ tour guide gives talks prior to each trip, which enhances the understanding and enjoyment, and our young man Mayuresh knew so much about birds too. Neena runs the whole experience with a gentle calm, and takes the morning yoga sessions (yog to her). Where else could you stretch out to the morning sun on a deserted island? There is a paramedic on board, so please say immediately if you don’t feel well. He accompanied every trip and was on hand with medication when my husband gashed his leg against a protruding obstacle. Because the river is shallow, we were the only ship in the area, visiting tiny villages on silt islands, and the mooring was stunningly good. At the bank the crew would ensure a safe spot, put down a gangplank and stand with a pole to provide a handrail. Even those unsteady on their feet felt safe. There was such care and attention to detail in every aspect of the trip it made an incredible, unforgettable experience. And the naturalist compiled a video of each day’s events, shown after dinner, which created a record of the holiday to purchase on a USB stick, just to prove you really were on that amazing, different world! It was part of a package tour of Cambodia and Vietnam. We were so pleased they chose your vessel as it was the most enjoyable part of the whole trip. The staff made us all feel special and welcomed, nothing was too much trouble. As vegetarian travellers they did their best to accomodate us. We had 7 days of fine dining, each day had a different choice. The table service was 2nd to none. Water was constantly replaced in our cabins so we had no worries about keeping hydrated. The laundry staff were excellent so clean fresh clothes were always available. The cabins were cleaned daily, they were serviced without any inconvenience to us. Staff became like friends to us, they remembered our names and our preferences. I cannot fault this cruise and would love to return, our hearts were heavy when we had to gomas we felt we were leaving our friends behind. Read Less

The cruise was part of a trip including "The golden triangle" and Kolkata. We had expected it to be the climax of the trip, and it exceeded our expectations. The service and staff were exceptional. The meals were varied and very good. Most meals, the wonderful manager Mrs Singh joined us, recommended what to choose and informed us about what the food contained and how it was made. It could e.g. be Assam specialities. The excursions were all interesting and of high class and the crew always had some surprise to come up with. One interesting excursion was to the Mishing village on a small island in the river, where the people were self-supporting and usually not had very much contact with the rest of the country. They seemed very happy with their life and were of course very interested in us. Another memorable excursion was by tender boat on the riverbank of Kaziranga national park with rich animal life. We had already given up the hope to see a tiger, and started our trip back sipping on a glass of wine provided by the crew, when they shouted "Tiger". The guide told us that it was the same very unusual white spotted female tiger they had seen before exactly on the same spot and at the same time of day marking its fox. Of course because it is a river cruise boat, there was not space for a theater with entertainment neither a gym, but there was a spa and yoga exercises for those interested. The boat was about half occupied on our cruise which may have contributed to the exceptional service, but still we highly recommed this experience. Read Less

Lunch was also served buffet style, with Asian and European choices. Two soups every day, salad and at least 4 or 5 other choices plus the amazing puddings. A 4 courae dinner with wine was served at the table with a choice. It was all lovely and we are foodies. There was a cooking course one afternoon which was great fun The guide's and the trips were marvelous, very knowledgeable and interesting. We had some very serious tours as well as fun one's and great lectures. We had a range of transport from long tail boats, ox carts, trishaws and a range of rickshaws. The crew was an absolute a joy. They really were quite special, nothing was too much trouble and they clearly have a great cameraraderie. The service really made the trip. It was such a wonderful way to visit Vietnam and Cambodia. Tai Chi on the top deck before breakfast was incredible. The company is very ethical and green, no plastic and they invest in the communities we visited and recruit staff from the schools. Read Less

Best vacation ever! We’ve been on close to 30 international vacations of various types, and this one was indeed exceptional. We booked our Scenic vacation Treasures of the Mekong for Oct. 20 – Nov. 1, 2019. We began in Ho Chi Minh City and finished in Siem Reap – which was lovely ending it all with the fabulous Angkor Watt. Although it was considered at the end of monsoon season, our weather was spectacular. We chose this river cruise because we wanted to experience different cultures and locations than we had previously encountered. We chose Scenic because of previous bookings and expected them to deliver “the best”. Scenic has planned incredible experiences for its guests every step of the way. This vacation includes two nights stay in Ho Chi Minh City at the Saigon Intercontinental, seven nights stay on the Scenic Spirit, and three nights stay at the Siem Reap Hyatt. Accommodations throughout were phenomenal. Food at the hotels and on the Scenic Spirit was first class. Scenic carefully chose restaurants and food experiences outside of the hotels and boat, and we enjoyed them all. One of the most fun food-related experiences in Ho Chi Mihn City was the “Saigon at Dark” – a foodie adventure on Vespas. The most memorable and elegant off-the-boat dinner experience was on our last night at Kravan Temple. Unbelievable!! The excursions we chose to go on were all worthwhile. These cultural outings in both Vietnam and Cambodia provide huge contrasts – extreme poverty and luxury, extreme sadness and elation, concern and hope. All that we experienced changed us, informed us and/ or delighted us. There is so much history – both recent and centuries old – that we had read about but never connected to until this vacation. We felt a tie to (as much as you can be in such a short time ) the “real” Vietnam and Cambodia. Cannot miss excursions / experiences in our opinion: Chu Chi Tunnels, Vespa Adventures street food night, War Remnants Museum, Killing Fields and high school prison, Raffles Hotel, Phnom Penh by tuk tuk at night, Phare Circus, monastery at Wat Hanchey, floating village, Angkor Watt, Ta Phrom temple, Kravan temple dinner. The Scenic Spirit is such a beautiful boat. The design is spectacular. Local artists’ work adorns the walls. The spiral staircase, with an elevator in its centre, makes movement between levels so easy. The rear of the boat features a lovely pool area on the third level, an inviting lounge area on the second, and the dining room on the first. We really enjoyed massages at the spa. A big surprise to us was complimentary use of washers and dryers (including laundry detergent). The do-your-own laundry room saved us, as we hadn’t accounted for changes of clothing twice daily (due to the heat). We cannot say enough about the Scenic employees. Our tour director, our guides and the onboard manager and staff were exceptional. There were 50 guests on the boat, and there were 50 staff. We have never experienced such warm greetings and attentive gestures as on this vacation. We acknowledge that every single staff person was engaged and personable. However, we want to name a few who we had more frequent contact with and who contributed immensely to our incredible vacation experience: Bunly, Charran, Endra, Nghia, Dara, Thida, Lin, Srechan, Sreleak, Phally. As an end note, we appreciated that Scenic supports local organizations that promote the education and skills of the local people. We had two dance presentations on the boat that featured young people who were developing skills and being educated beyond that of what their birth situation could provide. The wonderful evening of circus entertainment featured young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who have been acquiring skills in a variety of performing and visual arts. And Scenic made purchases of gifts from local artisans to gift to guests. We love the choices that have been carefully made by Scenic related to social responsibility. As a second end note, Scenic’s environmental initiatives should be mentioned. We were provided with re-fillable metal water bottles. Instead of individual plastic toiletry bottles, porcelain pump units are in the bathrooms. Paper straws are used for drinks. LED lighting is used throughout. Less obvious to a guest is that the boats have efficiencies built in to the waste water system, into the power management system, and into the HVAC systems. Scenic boats also have energy saving high-glazed glass. Read Less

On an offshore trip on the tender we were fortunate enough to see a very rare golden faced Bengal tiger, endangered turtles and eagles. We were treated to several different performances depicting local gods and fables. Were privileged to see monks performing their song and dance for God and allowed to tour their conclave. We toured a hemp factory and a tea drying and packaging factory. On board we were treated like honoured guests, every member of the crew were warm and welcoming. The chefs were exceptional. We wanted to see a part of the world that was completely new to us and we had never been to Asia. Previous reviews and my desire to visit where my brother served during the Vietnam War led us to choose the Charms of the Mekong on the AmaDara. We did the complete program with pre-cruise in Saigon and post-cruise in Siem Reap, Hanoi and HaLong Bay. It was first class all the way. I loved that the itinerary was not all about temples and tourist sites. We got wonderful glimpses into the lives of the people and got to experience visiting homes and schools which was probably our favorite part of the trip. First, let me echo all the positive comments from previous reviewers. The hotels during the land portion are some of the finest we have ever experienced. We especially loved the Sofitel in SIem Reap. The AmaDara is a beautiful ship. Our cruise was not sold out and we were given the option to upgrade our cabin at a tremendously reduced rate, but having looked at the more expensive options decided ours was just fine. All the cabins are in great shape and beautifully decorated. Other reviewers commented that there wasn't enough storage, but we didn't have that issue. We brought collapsible plastic hangars and they helped tremendously. The food on board was top notch and the staff were warm, friendly and very welcoming. Our Cruise Director, AK, was with us for the entire 16 days and handled every situation with grace and class. He made it all look easy, and I'm sure it wasn't. Markus, the Hotel Director on the ship, missed his calling as a comedian. It is apparent that the staff respect him and know the meaning of customer service. The guides in both Vietnam and Cambodia spoke excellent English and were grateful we chose to visit their countries. They each had personal stories to tell which brought the recent history of both countries to life, sometimes in very disturbing ways. Each stop was valuable and offered glimpses into the lives of the people in the regions we visited. The trip to HaLong Bay was a delight, but we wish it had been two nights. The other passengers ranged in age from 40s to 70s. All were in fairly good shape, which is good because there are lots of stairs to climb and uneven pavement. Most were from the US, Canada, Australia and England. They were respectful (mostly) and we enjoyed getting to know them. Here are some things I didn't read in previous reviews that would have been helpful to know: 1. It is really hot and humid!! I was the envy of all my fellow travelers.because I brought with me a battery operated device that went around my neck and had little fans at either end. They can be found on Amazon for about $35 2. They tell you that you need to have your shoulders and knees covered when you visit temples. What I didn't understand was that also applies to sites they consider sacred in any way. There were very few days when we didn't need to follow "dress code", and I didn't pack appropriately for that. Also, for women, you have to be careful that your tops are not revealing. 3. You need to carefully plan for your tips and bring new dollar bills (or Vietnamese Dong) for tips and purchases at smaller markets. They are happy to have dollars in Cambodia, but not Vietnam. 4. You will spend a lot of time on buses, and the roads are not always in great condition, so you might want to bring a Kindle or other device where you can increase the font to make up for the bumps. You will also want snacks. We bought trail mix packets and protein bars at Costco and were happy we had them. I hope you enjoy your Mekong/Vietnam/Cambodia experience as much as we did. Read Less

We have just returned from a holiday of a life time thanks to AmaWaterways. We travelled on the AmaDara a beautiful ship. We sailed the Mekong through Vietnam and Cambodia, a most beautiful part of the world with such friendly people. This was our first river cruise so we were not sure what to expect, but we were made to feel special throughout. The welcome we had at Saigon airport when we first landed was amazing. Tuan, one of the brilliant guides met us and taught us our first words of Vietnamese. This friendliness was to continue throughout the holiday. We had a land tour either end of the cruise, 2 days in Saigon pre cruise and 2 days in Siem Reap post cruise. The level of service was top notch throughout. The hotels were amazing nothing was too much trouble. AK our tour manager met us at our hotel in Saigon and was with us right through the holiday until our last day in Siem Reap. He briefed us every day on the upcoming excursions and was very professional in all aspects of his job. The excursions were well planned, and pitched at levels that all could enjoy. The guides were local and very knowledgeable and even showed us where to get the best photographs. Every need was provided for from water to drink to rainproof ponchos to wear. What we really enjoyed about the excursions was getting a feel of how local people lived and worked along the Mekong. We did also see the well known land marks such as Angkor Wat which was amazing, but it was places like Evergreen Island and Sa Dec Market that will stay with us. The Amadara and her crew made our cruise unforgettable. Thuy,in the Spa provided a wonderful pedicure, Vy provided great support and encouragement to help me make the 500 steps to the Stupa at Oudong. I am so grateful because the views at the top were spectacular. Clarice on reception always greeted us with a smile and was always interested in our day. Phallin in the restaurant made us feel so welcome with her friendly manner. The food on board was delicious with so much choice of both western and Asian cuisines. They even baked a birthday cake for my husband on his birthday! The waiters and waitresses in the restaurant were so friendly but professional. After dinner it was nice to have a drink in the Saigon lounge where there would be game shows which were fun. We particularly enjoyed the traditional dancers in Cambodia. We cannot recommend AmaWaterways and this cruise in particular enough. We were called “Family” throughout the cruise and that is exactly how we felt, like part of a lovely family. Read Less

The two per day shore excursions were small group with outstanding guides and the dining with wonderful Cambodian lunch and French inspired dinners was superb. The chef would also prepare specialty items that we purchased in local markets and even our shoes were taken and cleaned and returned after each excursion. Don’t expect TV tho because the joy of the cruise is being away from all of that. Eating at long beautifully set tables or tables for two if you prefer. The guides were all locals that spoke excellent English and shared their stories of their families survival during the war in Vietnam and the horrible genocide in Cambodia. Many excursions included lunch in gorgeous restaurants with specialty food requests if guests had dietary restrictions such as gluten salt and nuts and vegetarian meals were superb. Read Less

We have just returned from the most amazing holiday on the Amawaterways AmaDara, Charms of the Mekong river cruise. We have been lucky and have been on many cruise ships to all parts of the world but have never really fancied a river cruise. However we were due to go on an Indian tour which regrettably was cancelled and booked this as an alternative and we were certainly not disappointed. We had 2 days in Ho Chi Ming in a first class hotel prior to embarkation and had booked an on/off bus tour not realising that Amawaterways had arranged a couple of tours so did not utilise the bus and instead did their tour around the city in the morning and the chu chu tunnels in the afternoon. Both excellent with English speaking guides. Our first impression of the AmaDara was wow, what a delightful boat with wood panelling everywhere. Our cabin was beautiful with a Juliet balcony and another balcony with table and chairs to watch the fascinating scenery of Vietnam and Cambodia float past. The bed was huge and the bathroom was big with a lovely large shower cubicle. The whole experience was exceptional, the food was delicious with both western and Vietnamese, plenty of free wine and beers with lunch and dinner and the waiters and all the staff could not do enough to ensure the whole holiday came up our expectations knowing all names and likes and dislikes. The excursions which were all included were very interesting and the guides both in Vietnam and Cambodia were very knowledgeable and made every tour enjoyable and educational. Evening entertainment was varied some good, some not quite so good. On the whole one of the best holidays we have ever undertaken and although we loved the river cruise, we tend to go on long haul holidays and so will therefore not take another river cruise.but can certainly recommend this one. This was our second cruise on the Mahabaahu. The first was a week long cruise in October, 2018 downstream on the Brahmaputra River. It was a great cruise. Service was excellent and the ports we stopped at were amazing. When we received notification that the Mahabaahu was planning a 21 day cruise from Kolkata, India to Guwahati, through Bangladesh. We were excited to rejoin the boat and explore what has been virtually tourist free. We were definitely not disappointed. This was a trip of lifetime and lived up to the standards that we expected on the Mahabaahu. The ports we stopped at were to say the least amazing. Service by the crew was amazing. Considering the area we were in a lot of what we were experiencing was brand new both to ourselves as well as the crew. We were looked after extremely well and I felt safe throughout the cruise. Food on board lived up to the expectations that we experienced on the last cruise. Dining was diverse and well prepared with generally a choice every night. Our cabin on this cruise was great!! Spacious with lots of space for storage. Although entertainment on board was limited we dd have several evenings when local artists (musicians, dancers) came on board. These evenings were interesting and well received. On those days/evenings when we were due to go ashore the cruise naturalist, Mayuresh, gave us a short talk on topics relevant to the shore excursion. Out thanks to go out to all the crew and In particular Neena, the cruise director for an amazing once in a lifetime experience. My wife and I are eagerly looking forward to Adventure River Cruises upcoming cruise on the Ganga. Read Less

We wanted to go to Vietnam for a long time and we had traveled with Amawaterways before. We knew the quality of the product. After a few days on our own in Hanoi we joined a group of 19 for the pre-cruise, cruise and post-cruise with wonderful cruise manager Mr Thoai. From the minute we met him, he was totally dedicated and on top of everything because of his continuous hard work. The 3 Sofitel hôtels (Hanoi, Angor Wat,Saigon were 5 stars all the way. The cities were overwelming and we were glad to be with a group, no respect for pedestrians, tourists or not but they were worth visiting . We also had an overnight cruise on Halong Bay and did not expect so many excursions. We especially enjoyed the visit of the caverns. On that ship the food was ok but the room and venues were fabulous. Finally we got to the Amadara : what a beautiful ship ! Hotel manager Markus is in a class of his own. Everything runs smoothly, the food is fabulous (asian or standard), improvement is needed in the dessert section in my opinion. We had free drinks of the day at cocktail time and the free specialty restaurant, la table du chef, is not to be missed ( no complaint about desset there !) Every guide we met spoke English very well and represented Amawaterways with pride. A word of warning : the excursions are not for older people, they are quite active and demand a level of fitness exiting and entering the ship although there is plenty of help. It is a cruise not to be missed and should be on everyone's list! Read Less

I have looked at this cruise line previously and when the travel agent suggested it we were very enthusiastic. Our cabin was beautifully appointed and the cabin staff were excellent at attending to our needs. Dining was spectacular, every meal was a delight and the staff were professional and helpful while maintaining a real sense of humour. The onboard activities were very good and informative and the ashore activities gave us a real understanding of the Cambodian/Vietnam people and their culture. We were greatly moved by the past and modern history of both countries. The staff were excellent and attended to everything in a professional manner. I would like to mention staff individually by everyone was noteworthy. We were given a DVD of our time onboard at the end of the cruise that we will treasure and will share with family and friends. I would thoroughly recommend Heritage Line and The Jahan to anyone looking at cruising the Mekong River. Read Less

Our travel agent recommended this cruise to us which traveled down the Mekong river from Cambodia to Vietnam. It was the highlight of a fantastic 21 days in Vietnam and Cambodia. The staff are absolutely fantastic with an amazing service ethic and extremely friendly. The cabins and other amenities are beautiful. The pool and bar area is a lovely place to relax and watch the world go by from. The food was beautiful and a good mix of cuisines. The service from the staff at meal times was impeccable. The highlight though was the shore excursions. Two each day, each and every one of them was unique and fascinating. We really got away from touristy places and cities and saw how the local, rural people really live. We saw schools, villages, temples, markets, fish farms etc and met and interacted with the locals and with the students at the schools that we visited. Each excursion was incredibly authentic and a real learning experience. I also really loved the fact that the Heritage Line actually supports the schools that we visited and it was good to be able to make a contribution to them also. I would thoroughly recommend this cruise to anyone who is interested in this part of the world. Read Less

Having been on many of the European rivers with Emerald Waterways, we wanted to try somewhere a little different but keep to the brand we love and trust. Flights We flew with BA in premium economy, which was well worth it as we managed to sleep most of the night flight. Ho Chi Minh We stayed two nights in the Grand Hotel prior to the cruise, which was a great way of seeing the city. The street food excursion was the highlight of our stay. But just getting out and seeing the city was great. The ship The brand new ship was only on its third cruise but the crew felt like they had being doing it for years, they were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The ship has similar features to the European ships such as the Horizon bar, the restaurant and the sun deck games area. But it feels like less people and less cabins which make the ship very spacious. We think the cabins are bigger too. Emerald know how to look after their guests and they get it right each time. Cabins Our cabin was bigger than we expected, obviously very new and we had a lovely stewardess who even wanted to pack for us when we left. Dining The restaurant had a buffet style centre like the European ships but each evening there was a la carte menu. For lunch, this ship also had a Burger lab at lunch time, where we could create our own burger, we had it once but with so much choice of local food on the buffet and a la carte menu, we only got round to doing it once. Excursions Daily excursions, like we had in Europe, are included. The ship anchors in the middle of the Mekong and small boats took us ashore. But in big cities we docked and walked off. HIghlights included the sailing through Ho Chi Minh City as we set sail. We also enjoyed the Phnom Penh tuk tuk ride. Entertainment Entertainment was early evening, before dinner. Which is great for us as we are not big late night drinkers. A lion dance came on one night and local dancers another. All good stuff. A third night we took a tuk tuk ride for an hour. After a day of excursions, we were happy to head to our cabin. Siem Reap At the end of the cruise we choice to take the 3 night Siem Reap excursion. Be warned, there is a 4 hour coach journey but we got to see a bit more of Cambodia. Well worth the trip as we got to see the Angkor temples over a couple of days. The hotel we stayed in was very nice, and it was central so we could get out and walk on our own. Summary Overall this has possibly been the best cruise we have done. Emerald seem to get it right everytime. Read Less

I always had a fascination for Vietnam and Cambodia and wanted to cruise the Mekong river,as I have been very ill my husband treated me for our anniversary. From the minute we left home the whole holiday experience was amazing, the boat, food and the best cabin we have ever had. The excursions were very different from what we normally do and I enjoyed every one,I loved going around Evergreen village and meeting the locals who were very welcoming. The ox cart ride was very different, and the tut tut ride a little scary with all the traffic. I have a special diet and they always made sure I was well catered for. They have an alternative restaurant called The Captains Table for no extra cost, we had a beautiful meal there for our anniversary, and they made it very special. All the staff treated you like family and couldn’t do enough for you. The tour guides were very knowledgeable with a great sense of humour. I love Tai Chi and even that was available. I vote this cruise the best I have ever had. Read Less
