Overall, the trip was absolutely amazing and exceeded our expectations in every way. The itinerary was perfectly curated, with the unique, special experiences incorporated into some of the excursions providing some particularly memorable moments. The transportation and logistics throughout were flawless. The hotel accommodations were all top notch, the Metropole and Raffles hotels were especially ...
I had served in Viet Nam in 1969-70, so I wanted to return and see the country. We started our trip in Hanoi, so it was very strange to be up where our “enemies” lived. The people were great!
The history, as the communist country of Viet Nam depicted, was tainted to make them as being very gracious to our soldiers while they were there in prison at the Hanoi Hilton. Getting past ...
We booked this cruise, in part, to see a part of the world that was unfamiliar to us, yet a part of our lives growing up--the Vietnam War and the Cambodian genocide in particular. We added both the Ha Long Bay and Bangkok extensions and are so glad we did. Ha Long bay is an other-worldly UNESCO site that will leave you speechless, and Bangkok (with the Chinatown and street food excursion on the ...
This has definitely been one of our best cruises. We totally love cruising with Viking. The Viking Saigon is a beautiful new ship. The crew members and staff were excellent. They went out of their way to help us. UT was our program director. He has been the best one we have ever had on Viking Cruises. He went out of his way to make everyone’s trip memorable and enjoyable. Most of us were older and ...
We happened upon this cruise as the orginal cruise ship we had booked on - which was being renovated - was not ready on time. We were by no means disappointed and feel we had a marvellous experience. The ship is essentially very new. it only saw six months service, then COVID shut it down for over two years, so it has very good feel.
We only did the seven night cruise and not the longer tour ...
Asia had been on my bucket list for 20 years. The original plan was to travel in 2020 just as the Covid-19 pandemic hit so the trip was postponed 3 times. We finally decided on the Magnificent Mekong Tour since it covered 3 countries: Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. We did take advantage of both the pre-cruise extension to Ha Long Bay and the post-cruise extension to Bangkok. Viking does a ...
We had previously completed the cruise element of this itinerary ( Saigon to Siem Rep) but on this occasion it included a tour commencing in Hanoi. As we moved South through the country including a two day Halong Bay junk cruise and two internal flights everything was well planned and professionally executed.
The hotels used were of good quality and well located for further exploring. A ...
We had done most of the rivers in Europe with Viking so we wanted to try something new and different.
Our last Viking river trip was the Nile in Feb. 2020 and I thought nothing could surpass that trip but the Mekong did.
The entire trip was top notch all around, from the flights, the hotels, the food, the ship and the excursions.
Most importantly the guides for all 3 groups were ...
We had been on a previous Scenic River cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam and since that was a first class experience, we decided to go on this cruise. This cruise along the Mekong River from Vietnam to Cambodia far exceeded our expectations. Our cruise Director, Mirko, who has a wonderful sense of humour, was so very helpful and caring both for his guests and his staff. It was obvious, from the ...
We were able to visit all views of the countries - the large cities, the small towns and the small villages. It was a broad-brush view of Asian countries.
To see the "Hanoi Hilton" in person was very moving.
The temples in Cambodia, Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm and others were especially good. And for us who were somewhat unstable, the Tuk-Tuk driver helped.
The use of Tul-Tuks was a great ...
