The ship was excellent and the staff couldn’t do enough for you. The only detractors were the distances from port to excursion destinations for a few places. 2-3 hour journey times were often the case. We didn’t go to Bangkok or Ho Chi Minh because of this. Just returned from Far East cruise on Solstice. I have sailed with Celbrity a couple of times before and was happy with those cruises, so content to use them again. The Orion is a wonderful ship, and well-crewed. For the ship and crew I would give 4.5+ stars. I could not recommend this itinerary however, my 3rd experience with Viking. Ports of Call were mostly ugly industrial shipping harbors, and even the paid shore excursions seemed to offer little for the effort and discomfort involved being ashore. Viking really does everything right: All-inclusive pricing, almost no extras (some excursions are extra), absolutely delicious food every meal, almost no sense of crowding, fantastic destinations. Service was fantastic. Food is awful. You can smell their fresh fish’ black away. Absolutely beautiful dining room with the worst food. Hot food is cold, cold food was hot. NCL is going down the drain. Disorganized embarkation. People running everywhere. Was told to leave luggage at the curb. 2 Pieces of luggage arrived at 5 pm the 3rd one at 10 pm. The ship has an elegant interior which is kept spotlessly clean. All passengers were greeted with a glass of champagne on embarkation which foreshadowed the great service for the whole cruise.
