I travel extensively and this was the most expensive and one of the worst trips I’ve ever taken. We upgraded to a suite and executive lounge. The lounge service was good but the food stale, pedestrian and you had to pay for liquor. Dining Room and Lido deck food lacked quality, taste and freshness. We ate burgers and hotdogs because they cooked to order. The only free beverage was lemonade and tea. A coke was $2.50, latte $3.50 + tax, tip. We brought 2 bottles of wine and they charge $18 corkage fee at the restaurant! After spending $7000 (2 people) for this 7 day trip Holland America Eurodam continued to have unexpected costs. The better restaurants cost more to get in and if your wanted a good steak there was an up-charge! The excursions on average cost $150 a person. $30 per person to play Bingo. I’ve been to many around the world the cost for what you did was exorbitant. Also frustrating was the daily schedule was placed in your room the night before. They constantly changed the restaurant open and closed times. We missed breakfast because they close at 8:30am. This was confusing for many people. The most frustrating was the big day to see the Glaciers. They limited the amount of chairs on the top deck, did not offer to set out more and left many of us standing for hours or had to sit inside and only have partial views. The Ranger talk was at 7:30am. We missed it. The day was so unproductive and unorganized because we did not have a central place for the family to enjoy this spectacular event. I was beyond disappointed! I would not recommend this for big family groups or handicapped person. It was difficult to keep organized, most tables only had 2-4 tops that you can’t move. Limited seats for the classical music nights, shows were set at 7:30 or 9:30 which were on top of dinner timelines. Not much activity during the day unless you want spa and workout time. Overall, not worth the money and I would highly recommend NOT using Holland America Eurodam to see Alaska. Read Less

Toilet didn’t work correctly for 7 days, extremely loud fan blowing outside door for 4 days, severe vibration for 2 days. We tried every day to get these problems solved and it never happened. Staff that took care of the room were great and did try to help. Service manager sarcastic response. Shipboard entertainment was average. Food in the dining room was average but service was great. Ship stops were appropriate. Glacier Bay was spectacular. We found tours purchased off the ship were less expensive. On board shops were appropriate with fair pricing. Embarkation and debarkation were well handled well. This cruise provided a lot of inboard activity which was appropriate for all ages. We ate in all three dining rooms, the food was average. We could make dinner reservations which we liked. Wait staff was great. The stress of wondering if the toilet would work and trying to get it fixed was a daily battle. Read Less

The entertainment was terrible. The food was okay. Nothing spectacular. The wait staff were excellent. Some even remembered our names. The price you pay for this cruise is too much for what you get. The entertainment was the same people all the time in different places and times. The one singer was horrible. I had to leave until he was done. Some of the staff even said he was terrible. In the mini suite we had one bed for 3 people and a sofa bed that was like sleeping on a metal frame. Very uncomfortable. I said something about it. Nothing was done, except to not open the sofa bed and have me sleep on the couch. I would NEVER take a Princess cruise again. I was so disappointed. I have been on other cruises and they were great compared to this poor cruise. The excursions were pricey and you got the same when schedule on shore for a lot less. Read Less

Bottom line: I recommend strongly against sailing with Royal Caribbean unless you are "priority" to them. Getting off the boat was quite literally the worst process I have ever seen anywhere. I started the morning on deck 8 trying to go down to deck 5 to get off the boat Due to priority service needed, I was kicked off the elevator I was on (originally going down), on deck 10. Almost 2 hours later and I'm finally able to get off the boat due to full elevators, other passengers not moving or respectful of lines. Furthermore, I ran into the assistant front desk manager who was unable to assist in anyway and kept saying they did not have the manpower to assist as they have now put me further away from the exit. His inability to assist with the problem the boat/company had created makes me wonder about the quality of their customer service. While the rest of the cruise was enjoyable to include the cabin being well kept (thanks to our great stateroom attendant), entertainment as expected on a cruise ship and dining on par, should the first place runner of a race trip before the finish line they would not win. As such, the experience at the end of this trip was absolutely terrible that as of now, I strongly recommend against Royal Caribbean and do not expect to sail with them again (even if given the free cruise offered by their survey where my sentiments were also noted). Have sailed on Princess many times. This will for sure be the last one. From the embarkation, to debarkation, the entire experience was miserable, rude, and a complete joke. By second day you could only shake your head and laugh at Princess and how bad they are operating today versus where they were 23 years ago when we first sailed their line. The ship was dirty. The hallways were filthy. The carpeting was filthy. There was debris and dirt, with plenty of dust in our room. The ship was understaffed. Lines everywhere for everything. Several times not able to accommodate any time diners. Waited up to an hour for seating. Children attending the wine tasting events and screaming babies during the wine tasting events...Children running up and down the hallways all hours of the night banging on doors and screaming. The spa not honoring reservation times confirmed in writing by Princess 90 days in advance. Double booking of event locations for different events at the same time. Captains party and Trivia booked at the same location for the same time...Do they not have a calendar they use for scheduling events? Waited in line for 2 plus hours to get disembarkation tickets in Juneau. Princess had one person work the disembarkation table. Never saw many pissed off people and never experienced so much open sarcasm and criticism of Princess staff by customers like we did on this cruise. And the casino is a complete rip off too...never saw a single jackpot paid to anyone in the casino for 10 days. Many people complaining about that too. Complete waste of money, time and a completely miserable experience. Will never sail another Princess Cruise again... Read Less

Wow. Horrible. Bad food, bad service as a simple summary. Lots of whales sighted though (both at sea and at the buffet). Comically bad waiters sticking our menus into our food. Several meals in the dining room were not really edible so had to chase that meal with a visit to the buffet in the hopes of something better than “hot dog pineapple salad”. (No, I didn’t make that up). The on-board naturalist also stated (amongst many other oddities) that Canada doesn’t have any glaciers. That was said while we were actually looking at a glacier in Canada. The beds were very saggy due to the many “girthy” guests that preceded us. The mini putt and kids’ centres were closed each of the 5+ times we tried to go into them. The list goes on but I’m out of room. Scenery was great but with 5 cruise ships in port simultaneously the small towns were overrun and it was horrible on shore. Won’t be back. Read Less

Princess was the worst cruise line I have traveled on. Staff were not friendly/helpful, food was not that good and was not labeled to indicate if it was vegetarian, many of the hot tubs were closed the entire cruise (and would have been nice since we were in Alaska), they included a mandatory tip into most of their prices which is deceitful (just give me the true price instead of trying to hide it! - tipping doesn't work if it is mandatory), when we paid a ton of money for pictures they gave us the Princess templates with the picture embedded in it rather than the actual digital file of the picture; there weren't many activities to do on the ship (no slides/adventure activities); the night shows were repetitive; fitness center was often crowded and super hot - no airflow at all; and everyone was always trying to sell us something additional...Will never cruise with them again. The only thing they did well was the efficiency of the embarkation/disembarkation process. Read Less

We went on a family reunion cruise to celebrate milestone birthdays and anniversaries. We were very excited to see Alaska and Alaska did not disappoint. Advice for travelers. Princess is a large company which sponsors a lot of the shops you will find on port. Excursions are cheaper if you go through other websites, like Alaska Shore Tours. i was afraid to use them given there were comments made that they might not get you to ship on time. Well, if you know your time you need to be back and pad it by an hour, you are fine. Plus, the people in these town know cruise ship port times as this is their life and how they make their money. Knowing what I know now, I would have researched hikes and excursions for each port city and did my own thing and would have saved considerable cash and gotten away from the constant upselling of Princess. The whole cruise experience is about up-selling. The Lotus spa was nice, I came in for a $119 facial. Was upsold to $189 and recommended to buy $350 worth of product. That was my first day. Then all of the time loud speakers are touting opportunities to spend money. I honestly felt like people were trying to swindle me out of every dollar they could. All I heard about cruises were how good the food is. We did not have one single meal that was good. Honestly it reminded me of a hospital cafeteria food. We dined in a variety of places, but our traditional dining experience the food presentation was so bad! I wish I would have taken a photo of the blobs of food on my plate that I didn't know if it was edible. And this happened several times. We resulted to ordering salads and soup the final two days. if you are a person who prefers to learn about nature, enjoys fine foods and go on vacation to learn about the local people a cruise might not be your thing. We found more fun finding hikes ourselves, finding a dive bar in Juneau full of locals, getting away from all of the Vegas-style excessiveness. I loved Alaska and the people who call it home. Princess if you can do a couple of things to tone down all of the excessive consumption and waste. Provide a guide for the type of cruise experience you want, like lectures - make this a series so those types can easily find times of when they are vs. the massive lists that are hard to identify in the Princess Patter. Just placing a column with a category of the activity would help discern if it is of interest. Read Less

Cruise ship was supposed to be newly remodeled, but they went cheap on using double pane glass for the balcony doors, so you can hear EVERY LITTLE THING! We have been on several other cruises with other lines, and Celebrity advertises as “luxury” and “superior” but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In the past one of the best parts of a cruise is how friendly and fun the staff is, but don’t expect that on a Celebrity cruise. The spa overcharged us and was the most rude of all, also not honoring our appointment time (which I had made months in advance), they saw us an hour late, which messed with our other plans for the day. The food was a huge letdown in quality and taste, it should also not take 3 hours to get through a meal. Tried to get issues resolved on the cruise ship and with their post cruise department, but they do not care. Spent $10k on a post deployment vacation for my fiancé so we could rest, relax and see beautiful Alaska together, what a letdown. Celebrity offered $500/each towards our next cruise, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! Read Less

We went with our daughter and her family on this Alaska cruise. Alaska was wonderful, Royal Caribbean was terrible. We have traveled on many cruises, but this was our first Royal Caribbean cruise (and Last). Royal Caribbean does their remodeling during their active cruise trips. Shocking! The carpet in our hall was torn out and replaced with new carpet. The carpet and the glue smell was so toxic our family got very sick. I had a head ache, sore throat and my eyes were burning, for the last two days of our trip. Our daughter was on this trip, in a separate room, she is a type 1 diabetic. Her immune system is already challenged, adding the toxic chemicals made her very sick. She couldn't even get out of bed. Our little grand daughter ended up in the emergency room after we got off the boat. The staff were non attentive. After the trip, numerous calls to Royal Caribbean were not answered. Put on hold and then disconnected after 30 minutes holding, this happened 3 times. I finally got thru, and was supposed to get a call back, big surprise, no call back. We were in a suite and the attention was terrible. No bottled drinking water was available even at our $1,000 per night price. I am surprised this cruise gets any positive feedback, I'm assuming the people that received free trips are the ones reviewing. Save your money and go on a different cruise line. The dining room was ok, food was edible. Not much to do as far as activities. We had 2 days at sea and would have enjoyed something to do with our grandchildren. I heard the entertainment and thought is was karaoke, but it was main singer. Shore excursions were expensive. I tried to purchase online, but Royal Caribbean site showed excursions sold out. I had to call Royal Caribbean site to book shore excursions and paid 30% high to get the same excursion. I have never submitted a negative review. This cruise line was so bad others need to be warned. I wish we had known before we spent so much hard earned money on this disaster cruise. Read Less

Avoid cabin 8560, which is right above the Bliss nightclub. The music is so loud you could feel the bass throb through the cabin floor. If the ship is full, they cannot move you. The Bliss is a main entertainment venue and they will stop playing until midnight. The food choices except for the Garden Cafe and the poolside buffet cost more money. The food in Teppanyaki and Le Bistro is very salty. The spa has competent staff. There is a cardroom and Library for quieter pursuits, but if someone is smoking on the deck above them, there is a trace of smoke that comes thru the ventilation systems. There was some confusion of how the beds should be placed in our cabin. We preferred the beds to be separated to create a center aisle. It made it easier to maneuver in the very tiny cabin. We requested the change which they obliged, then four hours later returned the beds to the original configuration. All very confusing! When we advised the Guest services we would be disembarking in Ketchikan, they were gracious and returned our fees for the spa and shore excursions. When they say partially obstructed view, they mean mostly obstructed. Read Less

I chose this cruise line because I desired to take my family to Alaska. The embarkation and disembarkation were the smoothest and most professional parts of the cruise. The cruise catered to a specific demographic and offered very little for others. It was not child/teenage friendly and provided limited services for them. Most of the staff was not friendly or professional and were simply there to do a job. They were not there to provide a memorable experience. The photographers did not take good quality photos which gave a limited selection to choose from. We desired to buy more photos but could not. The food selection and quality did not meet the standard of other cruise lines. Some of the cabins were nicely sized but had very small showers. Each Port of Call was very nice, had great scenery and offered less expensive excursions on shore. All of the excursions (purchased all after arriving at port) were nice except the last (Victoria), which provided almost no excursion opportunities because we arrived at 7:00 p.m.. This cruise line provided a very poor cruise experience and simply fed and transported us from one location to another. Read Less

This was our very first Princess cruise So I will begin with a positive: -Embarkation and Disembarkation was so organized it was joke compared to carnival. -The views were amazing, breath taking and worth every moment you spend with the ones you love. Truly a dream vacation come true. -The mini-suites are roomy and the beds are so comfortable (soft). If you like firm your in trouble. -Entertainment was a hit or miss, one comedian was ok and our second one was awful. June our Steward was so nice and sweet. -Hazel Alfonso which works at the bar (Promenade Lounge & Bar) is by far the most amazing person. She is by far the best bar tender I have every had and she is the only reason I would go on another cruise with Princess again if I had to. -Crown Steak house was well worth the price which was really not much, my steak was perfectly cooked and the staff was excellent So the Negatives: -On the Dolphin deck around room 400 to 500 there is a horrible smell of mold. -The Dining room food for the most part was freaking horrible, we had one good night out of 7. The breakfast was so bad I had the eggs benedict and the sauce was lumpy and tasted bad/old. The breakfast in the dining room made toilet sick so I only went that one time. _The Buffet was the worst food I have ever had on a cruise ship. -We never got to do any activities like pool, ping-pong, shuffle board, you would think on a ship this big they would have more than one shuffle board game. My wife got sick on Tuesday, head/sinus infection and is now walking phenomena. On the 6th day of the trip the crow grill opened for lunch for free and I heard they had the best burgers so I waited in line alone, when I got to the hostess, I ask for a couple burgers to go so I could bring one to my sick wife. I was rudely told no, that was not going to happen. I explained that my wife was sick and I asked if they would like me to get her out of bed so she could get everyone on the ship sick. He said we will not give you a burger to go and I needed to go to the buffet. There were several people in line that told him, we don't want to get sick just give her a burger on a plate man. He still refused and then became very rude. These people on this ship are not accommodating in any way shape or form. I will never go on another Princess cruise even if it is free. Read Less

I have taken over 15 cruises (Disney, Carnival, Royal Carrib, Celebrity) and this was the worst. Took a Princess cruise in 1994 - which was also terrible. Thought we would give it another try. Certainly never will again. Ship was not well kept, staff was not helpful or friendly. Breakfast and lunch were not wonderful. Dinner was doable and dining staff was great in dining room. Breakfast and lunch selections were not good and there was never enough seating. Entertainment was okay but we had late seating and never were able to get to show on time if at all. We were part of an 18 member family party on a cruise from Vancouver BC to Anchorage AK. The staff were generally helpful, the facilities fine, the Alaskan scenery amazing, the food ok, yet my experience was largely negative. We brought our three small children with us. Mistake. The marketing literature implied “child friendly” but that is misleading. The kids center “Club Hal” was fun for older kids (mostly they watched movies) though occasionally with limited hours, but unfortunately not available to toddlers. But THERE WAS NO SAFE PLACE ON THE SHIP FOR OUR TODDLER. Lots of ways he could get hurt. For example, on Glacier Bay day we rented a cabana and we were on high alert (hard to enjoy) because he could easily slip thru the bars and fall 11 stories to certain DEATH. Deck 2 was the floor with the entertainment on it, and it included a Casino with sounds and lights which seem designed to attract toddlers. CASINO STAFF (manager Tom) WERE MILITANT ABOUT NO KIDS. So I spent endless hours in the evenings going up and down the stairs and elevator, trying to keep our toddler entertained, safe, and out of the casino. BEING TRAPPED ON THE WESTERDAM WITH A TODDLER WAS A FRUSTRATING, STRESSFUL, and EXHAUSTING EXPERIENCE. Never again. For the most part, with the exception of the casino staff, the WESTERDAM staff were empathetic and helpful to our situation, but still a horrible way to spend a vacation. In retrospect we should have just told the family we were not going with them. Read Less

I chose the Star Princess because of the wonderful experience I had on the Regal Princess in Florida. This was a my first mistake. To my disappointment, the poor standard of food offerings forced my partner and I to eat at the specialty restaurants four out of seven nights. As far as I, and my seven travel companions are concerned, the food in the dining room and buffet was inedible. Princess should be ashamed of themselves for serving that food. I've shown friends and coworkers photos of what you presented me, and some were shocked, the others laughed at the uncooked lobster, over baked beef Wellington with undercooked dough, and fish that was just horrible. I will never take another Princess cruise again because of this. I'm usually not someone to share my complaints, but these pictures and my commentary have certainly made the rounds amongst my large group of cruising friends. Some were surprised, others gave knowing nods when shown the barely passable food presentations. Other than the food, which is a very important part of a cruise, the ship itself appeared to be ready for an update, as parts seemed aged already. On the bright side, we stayed in a suite which was very comfortable. The room was spacious and the bathroom was roomy also. The shops were well stocked with great shopping items and the art gallery had some very interesting pieces. I found the casino to have a standard amount of tables and machines to play on but it seemed dingy to me. I was very impressed by the excursions I chose, like the private hummer tour and the helicopter to the glacier. I only went to a magic show and a music/dance review at the princess theater which were decent at best. Two nights we went to the Skywalkers nightclub and listened to the DJ. I found the nightclub nice but outdated like the rest of the ship. As far as, the internet access plan on the ship, I wouldn't waste my money, well, that's what I actually ended up doing. It's 2019 I think they could catch up with the other cruise lines with a more efficient and easy to use system. I booked a massage for the 2nd day at the Lotus spa which was visually pleasing, but the experience at the spa itself was horrible. The uninterested attendants gave me a robe and no slippers because they "didn't have men's sizes". Over half of the lockers' locks were broken or had doors hanging off the hinges. I regretfully handed the robe back and walked into my massage in my clothes, changing in the room. Again, Princess should be ashamed of themselves allowing the spa to be in this shape. Read Less

The food is less than desirable. You will want to EAT at PORT as much as you can. I had Anytime dining and tried the main dining rooms and Allegro for breakfast. The food overall is bland, and I did not take more than a bite or two from anything I tried for dinner. The main dining rooms were so disappointing I figured the specialty dining rooms had to be better, so I tried Sabatini’s. While the burrata appetizer was great, the pasta was bland, and the lobster was so salty (plus the same salty lobster from the main dining rooms), that I didn’t take more than a bite at Sabatini’s’ either. I even tried the tiramisu but I’m not sure how that was tiramisu. I quickly learned that the breakfast was also poor with the pancakes being hard and anything with eggs salty. I tried the Horizon Bistro and Horizon Court for the rest of the cruise thinking I could find something edible but was wrong…there was zero nutritional value in most of the food offered and the quality was that of a grade school cafeteria at best. I waited in line for the sushi one day thinking that was safe in Alaska, but the fresh salmon and tuna had absolutely no taste. My main diet for the week consisted of the pizza (which was good) and hamburgers (which were OK) on the Lido Deck. I ate as many meals as possible while at port and off the ship. The activities schedule is disappointing. The performances and bands were all sub-par. There was one pianist that I would listen to in the Wheelhouse Bar but that was it. It was the same musicians for the entire trip that played the same songs every day. The comedian/ventriloquist was not funny at all and I lasted 5 minutes before walking out. I did attend the comedian show both evenings and I questioned how Princess allowed him to perform as he was quite offensive to many in the audience for a family show…it was not a 21+ audience only. The itinerary is 4 days stuck on this ship. There are only 3 days at port. The only days enjoyed for the entire vacation were the 3 days of excursions off the ship. All of our excursions were booked directly with the vendors. You will save quite a bit of money so I do not recommend booking any excursions with Princess unless you want to pay more for the exact same trips. Overall, Princess is sub-par and needs to do some bench marking against their competitors. My impression is Princess is a low cost, low quality cruise line for passengers that have never been on a cruise, have low expectations and don’t have any comparisons. Princess marketing itself as being a premiere cruise line is inaccurate. Read Less

The stateroom was perfect aside from the air not working. It was clean and roomy for the two of us. We had great shows to watch and cozy veranda. There was plenty of storage room, and we even had numerous USB ports. Standard plugin was limited, but we were prepared for that. There was no outlet near the bed. My husband has a cpap and they brought a power trip to help it reach. Our air didn’t work the entire trip so thank goodness we had the veranda to leave open all day. They called everyday to check on it but didn’t do anything about it. Dining room Awful experience. The back of the ship was so loud and shaking you had to talk quite loudly to have a conversation. Therefore, everyone around you talked loudly as well. We ordered the Spinach and artichoke dip with bread which came with two breadsticks from Nutella. While we were eating, the captain came on to talk about the evening festivities, weather, location and more. We could not make out but a couple words that he said something about Glacier Bay and the spa. You can never hear any of the announcements because they only are in the hallways and stairwells. My husband ordered a New York strip steak medium and I ordered one done. Besides the fact that there were flank steak and not NY strip wasn’t the worst part. I received his steak and he received mine. The asparagus and carrots were saturated in butter. The pecan pie was stale and about two bites worth of pie. The NY cheesecake was not your typical cheesecake. It had more of a cake texture than a cream cheese texture. There is only food available during certain times so it throws off the eastern time zone people. Then when it’s time to eat, there are 1000 people in line waiting for two people to serve you food. The food is not buffet style or self serve. If you want a piece of pizza, it can be an hour wait. There are 30 people selling beer and two people serving food and clearing tables. You have to clear off your own table because there aren’t enough outside. If you want a waffle for breakfast, it can be up to a 7 minute wait. The food isn’t even all that tasty. Most of the choices are the same every day. The ranch for salads is watered down, scrambled eggs are runny and bacon is transparent. The chicken Caesar salad was divine. The omlet station was really good too but there again one person making omelets for 40 people. I’m sure like every other cruise line it’s all about tourism. I paid $4000 to see Alaska. Not buy $3000 jewelry made in China worth $10. I want genuine jewels and custom made things. I want to support Alaska while supporting Holland America. The only activities on the ship were targeted towards women. Jason paid $120 to just play Texas holdem for a bit. We did not know that it was a Chuck Swindoll cruise - that would have been nice to know because most of the rooms and events were for those people. They took the main stage most days so the shows weren’t till 8 and 10:00 at night. That’s 2:00 in the morning for Easterners. I spoke with an employee who said they had most of the ship most of the day. Our travel agent was incredible and really help tailor our trip ideas to our desires. When we went to the excursion desk, she told us that our travel agent booked us for all the old people tours and obviously didn’t know what she was talking about because there was no way we could get a cap for $70 an hour in Juneau. When we arrived in Juneau the taxis said right on the doors, $70 an hour! Felt like we were lied to from most of the cruise line employees. Alaska was breathtaking and so glad we went to Sitka. I had no idea Juneau was as commercialized as it was. I wouldn’t ever have to go back there. It was totally not what we were expecting. Even our family members who go on cruises to and three times a year it said it was unlike anything they had ever experienced I would not be traveling Holland America again. Read Less

We chose this cruise and ship because we had been on the same ship with a different itinerary less than 2 years ago. We even chose the same room. We were told that the ship had been refurbished. Not so, at least in our cabin. So many things were wrong that it is hard to know where to begin. We boarded the ship at 2PM and didn't get our luggage until 5:30PM. The staff was all flustered. Something was off with the staff the whole voyage. Our cabin had stains on the carpet, rust on the balcony and lots of mold. The service at the restaurants was awful. The staff was inattentive and didn't clear tables, so we all ended up waiting or sitting at dirty tables. We had lots of trouble with our reservations at the specialty restaurants. The food was decent, but not terrific. Even on the first night, when the staff was introduced, they were not "on." Something felt off the whole voyage. We were supposed to leave Ketchikan at 4PM and didn't leave until 4am, so we missed all of our excursions and one whole day in port. That left us at sea for 3 out of 6 days. We got little in the way of an explanation and were each offered a voucher for $750 good on another cruise. Who would want to take another Regent cruise after this one...Viking is so much better and we are very avid high end travelers... Read Less

I chose this cruise as I thought Princess was a reputable cruise line and which offered a fabulous Itinerary for Alaska. How wrong I was - the food was practically inedible and the shop felt very crowded with queues everywhere. There was a distinct smell of sewage on the top deck and generally the ship was unclean. I was convinced that I was going to have food poisoning so I ate very little. Anything I did eat in the Horizon buffet was very bland and luke warm and the Dining Room was not much better. The Dining Room had very limited choices and inserted another menu which you had to pay extra dollars for. When you go on a cruise you expect to be able to eat from the main menu and not be forced to spend extra to get what you want. I had to eventually give up on the Dining Room and was forced to eat Pizzas and Burgers on the top deck which was not ideal as they were not that great either. The room service was quite good as I ordered breakfast in my room to avoid the Horizon restaurant in the morning, Cabin steward ok but not wonderful. Did not go to entertainment so can’t comment on that but I was very disappointed about the activities on offer. They were very limited and Princess seemed to be more interested in getting as much money out of you as possible. I don’t know when I was so glad to get off a ship. Please be warned and AVOID Princess at all costs. Read Less

We took this cruise because of the itinerary had all the places we wanted to visit in Alaska. The highlights included: Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay, Skagway, Ketchikan, Juneau and Vancouver. All the stops were just outstanding and awesome. Normally this would be a 5 star rating but all the issue below take it down to a 1. Now onto all the issues. The food was just terrible. The food in the buffet was barely editable in the morning and don’t even try and eat there for lunch or dinner or you will be sick. The dinning hall is not much better and is so slow. The staff totally did not care about doing a remotely good job and I basically went hungry the last day of the cruise because my dinner was so bad. If you are looking at losing weight on a cruise ship then Princess Cruises is the way to go because their food is so bad you will not eat much. Next bar service was a total joke. None of the bar tenders could make the drinks on the menu and often had to ask or look up recipes on their phone which make for a long experience trying to get any drink. The staterooms rooms had no extra plugs for your phones or devices. The steward was great and got us an extension cable to help but having no plugs in the rooms was a total bummer. The production shows were above average but there was not much else to do on the boat. Normally you can find 1 or 2 things to do every hour but not on this cruise. Only 1 slot tournament and 1 blackjack tournament for the entire cruise. Seems like they were just checking boxes versus providing real entertainment options. We had the same comedian and magician for 4 nights straight and they were so bad. You should be able to get new entertainers each night in case some are bad. The excursions were totally overpriced and not well written making it hard to know what you are getting or not getting. We were surprised both positively and negatively because the descriptions of the excursions did not match what you get. It is a total crapshoot on what you are going to get. The kids area was so small and really did not have much to do so my kids refused to use it and instead I had to listen them complain about being bored most of the trip. The pools where 7 feet deep so it was hard for my kids to really enjoy the pool completely by touching the ground so not much relaxation there either. There is no arcade or anything to really keep my kids interest making for a long trip. Overall, you would think that Princess Cruises would know what they are doing after 50 years in Alaska cruising. Unfortunately, it is clear the cruise team has given up on entertainment, food, and kid activities so a 1 Star is all they will get from me. Read Less

We took the Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver on the Jewel. Sales was great, but customer service after we paid for the trip was difficult to reach. Air arrangements were made by NCL, and we had to contact NCL to find arrangements as they did not contact us once arrangements had been made. HINT: Air arrangements are NOT on the website under the Air Arrangements link, but in the Print Documents link. We had hoped to explore a little of Vancouver, but spent too much time in and out of customs. Would recommend to US passengers, go out of Seattle or another US port. We were not greeted or given direction when boarding the ship. Found out where we should be going when we tried to go up stairs to our cabin and asked, “where are you going?” by a crew member who then directed us. Our luggage was placed in front of wrong cabin (several cabins back and around a corner). On first day of cruise, they had already run out of two beers on the menu. Overall, food was mediocre to bad. There were two dishes that I couldn’t finish. Breakfast food was OK, but service slow. A bartender did not have daily specials in the menu book, but insisted that it was in there three times before my husband showed him; yet we received no apology for, basically, calling my husband a liar. We had purchased the drink package. We were told that if there was a star next to a bottle of wine, that bottle was included in our drink package. Also, at the bottom of the wine list is posted, “ * Choice of bottle include in premium plus package.” We ordered a bottle for dinner and were surprised to have a bill, with a 15% discount, but a 20% gratuity added. The cabin was clean, wish that the gratuities that we were consistently paying would have gone exclusively to the woman cleaning our cabin. Land excursions were very good and seeing the glaciers was amazing. We just wish we hadn’t used NCL to get there. Read Less

Our 6/16/2019 - 6/23/2019 Alaskan cruise on the Star Princess was one of the most horrible cruising experiences we had encountered.  We wanted to celebrate our anniversary and my son’s honeymoon on your Princess Cruise and booked three cabins.  We booked an Alaskan cruise specifically to see the glaciers and to visit BC Canada.   First of all, we were up and on the deck at 5am (per the itinerary) so that we could see the glaciers while passing through Tracy Arm.  After about a half an hour to an hour later we were told that we would not be able to pass through Tracy Arm and that we were going to Endicott instead.  Then we were told that if we looked through binoculars we could see the tip of a glacier.  Really?!? Needless to say we did not get to see any glaciers on this cruise. During the cruise, our toilets backed up twice.  According to some other cruise passengers they also had the same problem.  The next day the same problem occurred and a maintenance worker was sent to our cabin and again had to flush the main line.  My son’s and daughter’s cabins experienced the same toilet issues as did the other passengers along our corridor. Also, during the cruise there was a leak in the ceiling of my daughter’s cabin which occurred around 4:30 am which caused them to wake up to a wet bed and blankets.  Given the multiple situations we had with the toilets we were understandably concerned that it might have been associated with the sewer line issue but was assured that it was not a sewer line leak but was a ventilation leak.   Because my husband and I were celebrating our anniversary we received two gift certificates in our mail slot outside our cabin door.  One was for $25 to spend in the princess shops and one was for $50 towards a spa treatment on port days.  We used the $25 gift certificate at the Princess Vines Novelties gift shop.  At the end of our cruise we noticed that the gift certificate was not credited to our stateroom so I called the customer service desk and told them the problem.  They told me that they did not have any record of any gift certificate but that they do show the charges made at the Vines Novelties shop.  They asked me if I had the gift certificate and I informed them that the salesclerk said that he needed to submit it so that our stateroom could be credited and that he had the gift certificate.  They told me that because they do not reflect anything in their system they are unable to credit it.  Princess did not honor the gift certificate they gave us! As if all of the above was not enough to make this a terrible cruise, as we approached BC Canada we were informed that we would not be porting in BC Canada and would just anchor in place! Really?!? So during this Alaskan cruise with Princess we were not able to see any glaciers (Albeit if we looked through a pair of binoculars we may be able to see the tip of one); the toilets backed up twice; there was a ceiling leak in my daughter’s room; we were provided a gift certificate which was ultimately not honored; and we were not able to port in BC Canada!  Basically, the two main ports (attractions) associated with this cruise which were also the two main reasons for choosing this cruise were not provided for along with the other substantial frustrations mentioned above. I contacted Princess Cruise lines on 6/28/2019 regarding this horrible experience. They informed me that they will research the matter and a customer service representative would contact me soon. It has been almost a month and we when we finally heard back from a customer service representative from Princess Cruise line we were pretty much told that port cancellations are covered as acceptable in our contract and I guess the toilet back ups and ceiling leaks are as well. This is indicative of the type of service you can expect from Princess Cruises! My family loves cruises but we will be choosing a different cruise line for our future cruises! Read Less
